Layla's POV
Two days had passed, and it seemed as though I had embarked on a mission with no possible succession. I had done the things which I thought would redirect me to the Alpha king himself, whether it had to be the best performance or the worst attitude which a slave could put up.
Unfortunately, he was barely seen. If I couldn't have a view of him, how would I relay the necessary information to Alpha Alex? How then would I access the good things to come from this mission?
"What about the Alpha King?" I asked one of the fellow slaves. I watched as she stopped in her chores and stared at me with eyebrows raised, her eyes moving upwards and downwards before she asked me, "And what is that to you? Why do you care so much"
"I have never seen him. Does he not reside here?" I asked again. Apparently, it wasn't the first time I asked, and she was certainly not the first slave I asked about the Alpha King. Perhaps, the one I asked first has spread the words around that I sought attention from the alpha king.
"He does!" She answered me, "But you would never be taken into consideration even if he frequents this shit hole of ours" she continued in her statement as she picked up the bucket by the side and walked away.
I wore a smile on my face, a visible reaction to cover up the dark thoughts that filled my heart. It felt as though a needle was punctured into my heart, as though the shame would never die, the disgust would never end, even from those who were also lower in class.
Days had turned into weeks, and from what I had signed with Alpha Alex, I sneaked out of the Moonstone pack, back to the Wolfclaw pack to give reports to alpha Alex.
The guards had taken me directly to the Alpha who was seated in his throne room. I watched him from a distance, sitting with his right leg placed over the left, and his mouth moving as he masticated on fresh berries served to him by the maids from the side.
"You're here?" He said with a form of chuckle in his words.
"I was about to believe that you ran off with my offer. Trust me, you wouldn't want to know what would happen if you ever did that" he said as he waved his hands, and at once, the maids who were by the side stood from their kneeling position and left the room.
"So..." He cleared his throat as he leaned forward, fixing his gaze on me before he continued, "Tell me what I need to know!"
"I haven't seen him since I resumed the pack" I said to him. I stood with mixed thoughts to quit the mission over the frustration of not seeing the man whom I was sent to monitor
"What?" His eyebrows were arched upwards as he questioned.
"What do you mean you haven't seen him?" He questioned again, his facial expression changed drastically.
"He's rarely seen, Alpha Alex. I had done what has either been good, or bad, just so I could either be rewarded or punished by the alpha, but I have always been taken to my mistress. I don't know if he even resides there" I said again to him.
He shook his head, and leaned backwards against the backrest of the chair as he caressed his jaw and looked around.
"Are you sure of what you're telling me?" He asked me.
Why would I lie? As long as he kept to his part of the bargain, the future he promised me was just too beautiful to neglect or double cross. Plus, I knew that if I never did this, he would come for me, and my mind could never comprehend what he would do to me.
"Yes, alpha Alex. Although, I believe that if you give me more time, I could definitely see him on one of these days, and then, the plan would go on from there smoothly" I answered him.
"Fine. You have all the time you need to get me the information. I promise I'm not in a rush!" that was his only response as he waved his hands. I left him in his throne room, and I walked away, heading back to the Moonstone pack. All these occurred at the latest hour of the night, and so I doubted that anyone would know about it.
A few days later, while I was on my knees, scrubbing the ground with sweat drops drooling down my face, I could hear footsteps approaching me. That was the moment I increased my pace, and even injected more force into what I did as I suspected the echoes of the footsteps to only be that of my mistress. I never wanted to get into any trouble with her.
"All of you, rise!" She said to me. I looked up to her face, and then turned around to see that the others had stood up immediately, of which I was compelled to do the same.
"The Alpha is walking through. Lower your heads immediately" she said to me. At once, there was a wellspring of excitement inside of me, a feeling that I could not contain, but struggled to do so if I needed to stay alive.
I lowered my head immediately, and paid attention to the footsteps. Once I was certain that it had to be him, my curiosity had caused me to look up immediately, to have a view of what he looked like.
As I looked up and sighted him, my eyes had drifted immediately to that of my mistress, and our eyes met. I immediately lowered my head to the ground. Yet it was too late
I was still standing when I felt something being struck heavily on my back, causing a loud groan to escape my lips, and my knees giving out as I dropped to the ground.
"That's for your rebellion. Next time, if you're given an instruction, you follow it to the latter !" She said to me.
"Why did you do that?" I heard the alpha's voice, followed with a silence that filled the room. I had my hands on my back, trying to massage the pain before I felt a shadow standing right before me.
I opened my eyes and looked up to the sight of the Alpha himself, standing before me, with his hands stretched out to me as though he rendered me help to stand from my feet.
"Get up" he said to me with a smile seated on
his face, his hands still stretched out to aid me up my feet.
Layla's POV I trembled even in his presence. My hands were shaky as I placed it in his. I felt the strength he possessed as he dragged me off the ground, making me stand balanced before him.My eyes were glued to his, staring deep into his eyes before I caught the consciousness of who stood before me and lowered my head to the ground. "I'm sorry..." I whispered the words as I looked down. "I haven't seen you before..." He said with a calm tone to me. "I'm new here" I answered. I struggled with fighting back the tears that tried to roll down my eyes, maintaining my charisma before him. But I felt his fingers on my chin, lifting my face up and causing me to peer into his eyes before he asked me again, "What is your name?""Layla" I responded with a shaky tone, trying to redirect my eyes to something else. "Layla Caldwell" I said with a low tone. He smiled at me, and he released my hand from his hand, turned to his men and signalled them with the move of his eyebrows to follow afte
Layla's POVI was standing in the middle of the bustling and charming downtown of Atlanta, staring at the Wolfclaw pack that was featured with ancient stones walls, with carvings that glistened in the moonlight. It was as though each carving transmitted a message, or perhaps, told the stories of the heroes of the past, fallen for the arrival of the pack. Apparently, my aunt had just sold me out to the Alpha King of the pack as a slave. In her words, she could no longer tolerate my excesses anymore, and so was forced to get a bit of profit from me, thus, selling me off.I stood with uncertain eyes and with a throbbing heart in front of the great doors of the Alpha King's palace. My train of thoughts were disrupted when the huge doors creaked open, and I found myself in a large hall decorated with luxurious decorations."You wait right here. Don't step an inch further. The king will see you soon." The guard who ushered me said to me with a deep tone before he left me.I had my eyes sc
Layla's POVA new life? A new status? His words sounded just too exciting to my ears, something juicy i could never resist. I had already begun envisioning the future, imagining what would happen if I ever succeeded with what Alpha Alex wanted me to do. The slaves would never speak with so much disdain, and like he said, I would never have to scrub the floor again. But what was the guarantee I could do what he asked me to do? And why did he have to choose me? The Wolfclaw pack had the best of men, and the fiercest of assassins capable of giving their lives in exchange for the alpha's glory. Why was I his choice out of them all?I was considered the lowest of slaves. If he also saw me with that term, it was certain that the Moonstone pack was fiercer than what it was in the Wolfclaw pack. This meant that if I had to die, my death would make little or no significance to the stories that would be told to the future generations should in case Alpha Alex got what he wanted. "I'm waiting f
