Jasper's POV

I leaned against the desk, fingers drumming against the polished wood. "Jayden," I muttered under my breath. That fool. His loyalty to Mia was going to get him killed, and yet... I couldn't entirely blame him. Was it love? It had to be.

It baffled me—Jayden, who I’d never seen so much as glance at a woman, was now willing to risk everything for Mia.

Mia with her captivating beauty and fierce spirit could easily draw any man in. But why would he be so reckless? Why her? The same woman it seems I'm attracted to?

After his little stunt to help her escape, I had no choice but to punish him. The men had tortured him, but he said nothing—no excuses, no confession, just silence.

Jayden and I had roamed the streets of Las Vegas together. He had always been loyal, unwavering in his commitment to me. But now? With Mia, he was a different man, ready to throw himself under the knife for her.

I can’t trust him anymore.

If he refuses to confess, I’ll do this my way.

And my way? My way means fooling them both.

"Jayden told me everything," I said, my tone calculated, watching her reaction closely.

Her eyes widen and for a moment, panic flickered across her face, before she quickly masked it. "I don't know what you're talking about," she said firmly.

"Don't play coy with me Mia," I snapped, stepping closer to her. Her scent—wild and intoxicating—filled the space between us, and for a maddening second, I wanted to bury my lips against her neck and then trail my hands over her body. My jaw clenched. No, I won't let this woman distract me. You've been lying from the start, haven't you?"

She shook her head vehemently, desperation seeping through her voice. "I haven’t kept anything from you! Whatever Jayden said is a lie."

I titled my head forward, studying her. My eyes betrayed me, lingering on her trembling lips, the curve of her neck, and the way the oversized jacket clung to her petite frame.

Fuck! I cursed under my breath as heat surged through me. I feel like laying her on the desk and fuck her right there, and right now. Gosh! Why am I fucking attracted to this woman?

"Shame on you," my mind chipped in. "You're attracted to a suspected spy. Your cock would be the death of you someday."

I stepped back from her, clearing my throat as I fought to surpress myself.

"You know," I said, my voice low and measured, "because of you, Jayden is in trouble now. Do you care at all about the people you drag into your mess?"

Her eyes flared with anger, and before I could react, she stepped forward and shoved me in the chest. "Don’t you dare touch him!" she spat, her voice quivering with fury. "If you hurt Jayden because of me, I swear—"

I caught her wrist mid-air before she could throw punch. My grip tightened slightly, and she winced but her glare didn't waver.

"You’re in no position to make threats, Mia," I said coldly, though I felt a flicker of admiration for her audacity. I released her wrist and stepped back, regaining control.

"Guards," I barked, and within moments, two men barged into the room.

"Let her change her clothes," my eyes roamed her body for a second. "Then take her back to her cell. Double the security," I ordered, ignoring the pang of guilt as Mia's defiance melted into visible fear.

"You can't do this, Jasper," she protested, her voice breaking.

I turned away, my expression hardening. "Watch me."

She be thankful, I'm just locking her up and not torturing her. Am being too nice, right? It's so unlike me.

The sound of her protests faded as the guards led her away.

Next morning

I was already on the move. Lisa, the woman I had been supposed to meet at the penthouse before the assassination attempt—the one who had the answers I needed—was still missing.

My car pulled up in the club where she worked. The manager greeted me nervously, his eyes darting between I and my men.

"Lisa," I said, cutting straight to the point. "Where is she?"

He hesistated, his face pale. "She hasn't been here since yesterday. No one has seen her."

I managed to surpress my frustration. "Give me her home address."

Within minutes, I was standing outside her apartment. The building was decrepit, its walls cracked and paint peeling.

Kicking the door open, I stepped inside, gun drawn. The stench of decay and blood hits me. My eyes scanned the room until I saw her —bound to a chair that had tipped over, her body slumped lifelessly on the floor.

I bent down beside her, pressing two fingers to her neck. Then I felt it. Faint. A pulse.

"She's alive," I called out to my men.

Lisa looked nothing like herself—bloodied and tortured. She stirred slightly, her lips parting as if to speak. I leaned closer, straining my ears to catch her weak voice.

"They.... knew you were coming," she rasped before falling unconscious again.

I stood, my jaw tightening as I looked around the wreckage. What was happening? They must have tortured her to get the truth about my whereabouts.

"Get her to the car. We need to get her to the hospital," I ordered, my voice cold and sharp. "And I want a full sweep of this place. Find out who they are and what they after," I added if though I knew the answers quite well.

Who they are? My father.

And what they are after? My life.

Interesting, right?

As my men moved to obey, I stood amidst the chaos, my thoughts racing. This was bigger than I’d anticipated. Mia, Jayden, the assassination attempt—it was all connected.

I can't take this lightly anymore. Somehow I need to get a confession or lead from them—especially Mia.

The search was futile. No leads. No evidence.

With anger surging through me, I stormed back into the mansion. I unbuttoned my suit, shoving it aside.

Then I commanded, my voice sharp. "Bring Mia to the underground room."

Her pain only seemed to intensify the rush of power I held over her.“Please… stop,” she pleaded, her voice barely above a whisper. But I didn’t stop. She was a random slut I picked up from the bar last night, —clearly unaware of what she was getting herself into. In fact, they craved the roughness. My hand curled into her hair, yanking her head back forcefully as I pressed my lips to her ear.“Scream for me,” I gritted out, my tone both icy and elated.
