.ELRISTEYA.
I gulped hard and reached out to Joe’s hand then I dragged him to a corner with a glare directed at him.
“What is the meaning of all of these? How could you trust a total stranger to take your sister home?” I whispered, ducking my head slightly to hide.
He started to shake his head. “That guy over there is no stranger but my best friend.” He said and this even irritated me more. He said it with so much confidence that I might have thought that this Alec guy used some voodoo on him. I sent a quick glance at this guy, he was watching us too with a blank face then I turned back to my brother.
“Yout just don't make best friends in one day or even two seconds. You need to go through trials of fights and quarrels.”
His brows rose up. “Huh? Those are females friendship. Not males. You all need to go through the jealousy stage then making up stage then the stupid bestie stage but for guys, we see, we click.” He said simply.
I was about to say something when he placed his finger on my lips. “Unless you want to wait for me to finish talking with Zoey and playing some soccer, you should go with him. I know he is our neighbor by the way. We spoke.” He added and I let out an exasperated sigh.
“I need my own car.” I muttered under my breath and he huffed a scoff.
“Wait till you are twenty, youngie.” He said and bypassed me.
“Sorry for what my sister did. You know how little sisters behave.” Joe said with a slight chuckle. I gave him a look of confusion and turned to look at this Alec guy. He also nodded and that earned him a surprise look from Joe.
“You have a younger sister too?” He asked. Alec glanced at me and nodded.
“Wow. That's nice. You know what? Don't let me keep you both waiting. You can go.” He said. I looked at him with a pleading expression but the fucker actually waved at me with a smile.
“Alec, make sure my sister arrives home safely.” He said for the last time and I jammed the door. Alec seemed to wait for a second before strapping on his seat belt. I noticed him taking a huge breath.
I did the strapped mine too and waited for him to ignite the engine and get this over with. Since he has decided to go all dumb on me, why should I bother talking to him?
He ignited the car’s engine and we began the journey of ten thousand miles. Okay it is not even up to a mile.
The kind of silence that descended in our midst is enough for a pin to be heard if dropped. Even breathing seemed constrained. I could not relax my shoulders.
How was he even dealing with this? Well, I think I got a nickname for him. King of Silence.
Because personally, I need more than oxygen to breathe and this guy’s cologne is all over the place and filling my senses. I fell back on my chair and just like that, his hands reached out and turned on the AC. I slid my eyes to him at what he did.
He knew I was uncomfortable. Was he also uncomfortable? Well, he should be. Taking a stranger home, cancel that, your best friend’s sister whom you slammed the door on home is something to be quite uncomfortable about.
My phone beeped with a message alert, making me jerk and Alec pause. Pulling it out, I checked who sent the message only for me to see it was Lestiana.
She wrote, ‘Gotten home. You?’
So quick for her. What did I expect before? Being from a wealthy family got its perks.
“Yes” I replied. I waited for her response but nothing came. Maybe she was busy or interruptedm
I sighted our building and relief washed over me as I was finally going to be free from this guy. As if he did not want to spend another second with me, he increased the speed and soon pulled over at the entrance of our house. I unbuckled the seat belt and pushed the door open.
Should I thank him? No, he won’t reply anyway. Sending a quick glance at him, I stepped out of the car and hurried to the door without looking back. I noticed that he did not move for a while and I turned around to see him looking ahead of him. Was he waiting for someone? It is none of my business. I pushed the door to our house open and went in. As I clicked the door knob, the starting screech of the car’s ignition sounded and I heard a voom!
Did he wait for me to enter first?
What did he take me for? A young girl?
I should not be thinking like that. All of these was Joe’s fault. If he had not asked him to take me.
Mom was yet to get back from the nanny job she does and Dad always come back at night so I am the only one at home.
Time to call Lestiana.
.ALEC.
I drove into the garage, my fist white from clenching too hard during the drive. If there was a drive I had ever done and I was uncomfortable, this would top the list. Her fucking scent filled my senses that I could hardly even focus on the road. And my wolf was not making it easy for me. He kept tugging at me to speak to her or even look at her. I knew that if u had stared at her and she also stared at me. She would have seen my wolf and that would have created a lot of problem. A problem that he almost created the day we met and I had to slam the door to her face. I agree that that was no good way to behave towards someone. At least not your other half.
This was definitely going to be hard than I thought.
‘You should have spoken to her.’ My wolf said as he glared hard. He was mad.
I shook my head negatively and slammed the door shut. “Spoken to her about what? Dude, she is a human and my best friend’s sister.” I replied. And speaking of that, all I can say is that the things that are happening right now are overwhelming for me and I could hardly focus. Joe had met me during the time I was exiting the principal’s office and with a grin he had greeted me and told me that I was his new long lost best friend. I knew what had happened. In fact, I knew it so deep when I met him. He did not know. Or maybe he knew, he did not say anything. I learnt that he was busy in other classes that he could not come to mine. But things like this hardly or rather rarely happen. This siblings next door were going to be the end of me.
Dropping my school bag, I tugged at my tie and pulled my shirt off. It reeked of her scent and I swallowed hard before dumping it in the basket. Turning to the kitchen, I picked my phone and sent a message to Joe since we exchanged contact almost immediately.
‘Your sister was delivered safe and sound.’
His sister. Elristeya. His sister. Elristeya.
That name. The moment I heard it, I was so turned on that I knew I was in for trouble. Everything about her was trouble and I knew better than to stay away from her.
I opened the fridge and brought out the pizza I had planned to eat in the morning but because I was annoyed at Elris’ singing voice this morning, I think she was bathing, I left it with a hiss ripping through my lips. And now, I was back to eating it. I picked a bottle of coke and sat down before the television.
What was I going to do now that I am far away from my parents and pack?
I doubt anyone knew who or what I was. Everyone of them in RavenHigh were all humans and Joe... I don't know what to say about him. He and I have made a connection that could only be broken by betrayal and I know that he does not know yet. Maybe it is better he does not know anything yet. It would endanger his life and that of my ma... His sister.
‘You are a coward!’
I hissed out, ignoring him.
‘You have found your mate and you don't know how to approach her.’
I still ignored him. I was not scared to approach. But the timing was totally wrong.
‘Alec, you need to claim her before anyone does.’
And that is how wolves think. Always so primal and instinctive. Not waiting for a chance of relation at all.
I downed the last content in the bottle and shoved the last piece of pizza in my mouth before saying, “She is a human. She does not know about us. And we don't need her. Keep your fangs in and stop thinking with your dick and rather think with your head. Funny part is that you don't even think with your heart.” I replied him.
‘We need her. She is our mate. She is our Luna. Do you think you will be able to stay away from for so long? Let her fall in love with someone and I will forever lose my connection with you!’
Gosh, my head ached a lot. Having an Alpha wolf was one of the difficult job I have to carry for the rest of my life.
‘She is alone at home. Go and check on her.’ He suggested and my brows creased in confusion. Wolves are even more creative than their humans.
But I held my ground. “No! We are going to sit here and watch this documentary then we do our homework and sleep. That was the plan, remember?” I asked him. But I could sense the hesitation as he retreated to the back of my mind.
Good. This was just the beginning. We still have a long way to go. I stood up and headed to the bedroom where I saw the paper she had thrown into my room that night. Picking it up, I uttered a snort. If only you know that you are more than right for calling me an asshole.
But I have to stay away from her. Things have just gone from bad to worse and I knew that very soon it would get to worst. She now has an over protective big brother and because I was once in his shoes, I would not want to see her with any guy. How would I deal with this?
Moving towards my window, I looked out and my heart skipped a beat as I locked gaze with Elris. Why was she standing here?
Instantly, adrenaline rush to my groin and I knew I was done for. Breaking the eye contact, I moved away from the place swiftly and I knew at that instant that I was indeed a coward. I closed the curtain and slumped down on the bed.
Moon goddess, help your son.
And as if I imagined it, a voice came. “I already helped you.”
.ELRISTEYA. The Next Day, I ambled through the crowd as I looked forward to see what or who was causing the crowd and gathering attention. Well, some students always gather attention everyday, whether it was bullying a lower class student or a guy breaking up with his girlfriend who thought they would be together forever, there is always one occasion to be watched and I mean, that is the fun in school right? Lestian was yet to arrive at school and my dad had dropped me this morning since it seemed like Joe and Alec had left togther. I had overheard him speaking to Alec about racing to school together first thing in the morning so yes, he abandoned me and I could say that Alec has successfully stolen my brother's attention and left me with nothing. That brought me to remember what had happened yesterday. Alec had walked over to his window, not expecting to me there. I obviously saw how shocked he was because he went rigid and I also stilled in shock. It was like I caught a different h
.ELRISTEYA. What the hell was that? Our eyes clashed and my body vibrated with something like current. Current? What just happened? Immediately, Alec lifted me up to my feet and shuffled away from me like I had just burnt his skin. Gaping at him, he avoided my gaze even as I tried to make him look at me. I watched his throat bobbed and beads of sweats broke out on his forehead. A muscle in his jaw ticked as his fist turned white from being clenched. What was happening to him? “Watch where you are going.” He snapped, his teeth gnashing against each other and before I could speak, he walked away from me, leaving me shocked as ever. I had gone to get my book from the teacher that had finished teaching us before the bell for lunch break was rung. I whirled around just in time to see him pass through the other section. Staring back at my palm, the lines were now quite visible and I don't know what just happened now but something happened and I was going to find out. And did I add tha
.ELRISTEYA. I avoided his gaze. I looked everywhere but him. But I was not deaf. The way he answered the questions he was asked even though I could notice a little of reluctance, I still tried not to mind him. But still, I still found my eyes wandering towards him and I could not stop staring at him even as I tried. Is it the way he ate his food like a well-table mannered boy or the way he looked in the casual wear which I would say was quite different from the way he looked in the uniform, gosh, these clothes made him look young and … fresh. Okay, I have seen him in shorts but this… this is hot. Maybe it is wrong talking about him like this but I don’t know why I feel extremely attracted to him tonight. Gosh, I had fought so hard not bite my lips when I had gone to open the door and he ran his eyes over my bare legs like that. I knew he knew that I was staring at him because a muscle in the jaw was ticking. Was I making him uncomfortable with my gaze? Well, I would like it. While
.ELRISTEYA. Lestiana would be coming today. I had already arranged my room properly and made sure she would feel quite comfortable. I have not been to Lestiana’s house, not once but from the video calls we make, I can see that her room was more comfy and prettily designed than mine so … I am not saying this because I feel inferior or something. She is wealthy and you know wealthy kids always have this sense of wealth. Joe had abandoned me again and followed the King Of Silence. I guess Alec had not taken his car. Letting out a deep breath, I waited for my father and mother to finish their goodbyes exchange, scrunching my face in the process as I heard some smooches sounds. Oh please, I want to vomit. He soon walked out of the house and I shook my head as he turned to me. The blush staining was very obvious I knew that they could have done some freaky things inside. I am too old to see things like this. We got into his car and he ignited the car’s engine. “Grey!” I heard my mother
.JOE. “Hi, guy. Did you hear about Cahir’s birthday party this weekend?” Mark, one of my classmates, asked and I shook my head. I was not a party addict but I go sometimes. “It is this Saturday, will you come over?” He asked. That I would. “Sure.” I replied, patting him on his back before walking away. I sat close before Alec who was reading his novel. I shook my head and brought out my phone. Zoey and I had a fight again and she was not replying my text. “Guy, will you go with me to the party?” I asked him. He looked up from the book and gave me a blank stare. He did not say anything and turned back to his book then he shook his head. I let out a snort. “There’s nothing you can do. You are going with me.” I said with finality and he lifted his head to me fully. “Really? I don’t like parties.” He said. I scrunched my face. “Gosh guy, you are missing lots of fun like you know ladies and all …” He turned back to his book and I knew he did not like hearing me talk about ladies a
.ELRISTEYA. I might have heard wrong. Or is it my ears that heard it wrong? Alec just spoke to me... And he insulted me too. My lips parted in shock as I stared at him, words could not form in my mouth. Lestiana chuckled quietly and I cut her a glare. Really? “Hey, boy. You just told my sister that she was ugly.” Joe reprimanded him and still, he pursed his lips. Alec cleared his throat and said. “Her dress is short and exposing.” If I was shocked before, I am even more stunned now to say anything. I gulped softly and waited for him to say something to take that back but he did not. He avoided my gaze and I finally let out a snort. “What I wear is none of your business so keep your compliment to yourself,” I said to him and he gave me a blank look. Pulling open the car’s door, I stepped inside leaving them to stare at one another. Les soon stepped inside and pulled me by my arm. “You know he did not mean that.” She said. Joe and Alec entered the car and I looked straight a
.LESTIANA. I think I am drunk. I have never taken any drink like the one I had taken with Elris and it was the one that had given me this sudden confidence boost. My mother never let me drink, it was forbidden in my father’s house. I mean I am the little princess of the Cole Family. I should not be found in such a place but what can I do when they are out of town and there is an opportunity to enjoy my life for once? Elris had dragged me to the dance floor and I could not help but move my body to the beat of the song. Gosh, this DJ knows what music to play. The music was playing at a loud volume and I could feel the bass of the song playing vibrating through my entire body. I have the sudden urge to dance with recklessness. Just to move my body like it was only me in this world. The drink was doing something to me but I did not mind. My eyes glanced around the place and I saw Joe talking with some guys and the supposed birthday boy. Joe was handsome. No, don't say it is because
.LESTIANA. Death. I finally found the fastest way to die. Those who said there are 1001 ways to die did not include your parents killing you, did they? Because I did not read it. My driver could see the fear evident on my face, he has that pitiful look which only meant he knew that he was going to carry my corpse today. How did they come back so early? Even the way I flew out of Elris’ house like a vampire. Gosh, I am frustrated. I palmed my face and gulped down hard. What was going to happen now? I know my father is likely to throw a fit and my mother is likely to give me rounds of lectures but that means... I could be grounded which was worse. I felt the car stop and I raised my head, the view of my father’s house met me and my heart skipped a beat. Okay, Les. I stepped out of the caro. With every step I took, my heart beat increased. I noticed their car was parked right in the garage, double fear. I reached the entrance of the mansion and closed my eyes. Offering a silent
Everyone was shocked. Who had called for a party in the pack?People began to troop in one by one. Hadn't the recent crowning been done here? They got themselves busy with free drinks and food. Never has it been in history that parties as lavish as this one have been held back to back. The pack members were well aware of just how managing the Alpha and Luna had been. Their fist was so tight. Alec’s parents walked down the stairs, confusion etched on their faces. Maria walked alongside them, baffled as well. No one had the power to do it except the Alpha and Luna, the crowned Luna, who cannot be the one behind this because she was in prison, and the acting Alpha… who in this case is fighting for his life in the hospital.“What is happening?” Alec’s mother turned to her husband as she gave him a questioning look. The man shrugged. “I’m not aware of anything.”They both turned to Maria but as they saw the expression on her face, they did not bother to ask her because the answer was etc
.ELRISTEYA.I did not know how I reached my father’s house. All I could remember was Alec yelling after me and entering a cab then rushing into the house.I headed straight into my mother’s room, my heart beating erratically in my chest. I ignored the feeling of lifelessness that surrounded the house as I marched up the stairs. Pushing open the door, I glanced around the room and searched for my mother. I did not see any sign of her. I went down to the kitchen and yet she was not there. I searched Joe’s room before going into mine and then coming out, she was not in any of them.Where was my mother? Fear crept into my heart at the possible thought of what might have happened to her twinkled in my head. At this point, I was no longer afraid of the news of death. In fact, I was starting to brace myself.“Mom!” I called out and went back into her room. My eyes swerved to the bathroom and I instantly rushed over and opened the door. There she lay in the bathing tub, looking so numb. I ran
.ELRISTEYA.Every head turned to me, gasps ringing out from one corner to the other in waves. I looked forward at Alec and especially fixated my gaze on Maria who did not seem only shocked that I was there but also dumbfounded. I noticed her fake lashes flutter slightly. People began to pave the way for me as I walked towards them. I avoided looking at Alec because I did not want to know the kind of expression that would be on his face. Reaching the podium, I stopped and met his mother’s angry stare.“Why would you willingly accept what is not yours, Mariander?” I asked, dragging my gaze away from his mother and perching it on her. She blinked, her mouth opening to speak but before she could, I cut in. “This crown is mine, considering I am mated to Alec, and since he is the Alpha then I should be the Luna. Isn't that right, Alec?” I asked, glancing at him and he blinked twice before nodding in agreement.I faced his mother and inclined my head to the side, giving her an expectant look
.ALEC.I stared at the well-ironed tuxedo that was hung before me and I could not help the feeling of dread that filled my stomach. I was standing before the mirror with a towel wrapped around my waist. My father had refused that I leave the pack till I was installed as the acting Alpha and Mariander, the crowned Luna. Anger and pure fury clashed against each other in my heart and pumped into my veins. The urge the punch the mirror heightened. I stepped away instead and swiped everything on my desk away, the glasses clattering on the ground, making a noise. My chest heaved with heavy breaths as I stared at the shattered glasses. Someone rushed in and a scream rang out. I looked up to see my mother glaring daggers at me and I scoffed, turning away from her.“What is it?” I bit out, trailing the tuxedo with my fingers.“You should have gotten ready. The guests are arriving and you should be the one welcoming them and not your father.” She hissed. I caught the sight of her hands on her w
.ALEC.As I gently lay Elris on the bed, my phone beeped and I knew who it was but I did not bother to pick it. I did not want to, at least not at this point. I was needed here. I watched Elris for a few seconds, waiting to see if she would wake or not. When she did not, I walked out of her room, closing the door gently to prevent her from waking up.I walked down the stairs, her mother’s chatter filled the air. Joe had walked out of the ward, leaving Elris and his mother. I was worried about him but with Alerix with him, I knew she would not let him hurt himself so I was a little bit relaxed.I went to meet his mother who kept talking to her. The death of her husband affected her to the extent that her head was now upside down. All she needs is just a deep sleep and she would be normal again, feeling the agony of her losing him.She looked at me and rose to her feet. “Please, take care of my children.” She said and my eyes narrowed at her. I did not understand what she meant by that
.ELRISTEYA.I jolted out of the haze I was in and scrambled down the bed. With wide eyes, I stared at Alerix who was soaked in sweat and my heart dropped to my stomach at the fear of what she had just said. I ignored the itching on my neck.Joe was in an accident?“Where is he?” I asked, glancing around for the pair of my sandals and I found them at the corner. “He is admitted to the hospital. He is currently unconscious.” She said breathlessly. I wanted to ask her how she knew about it but I knew it was not the time to ask that so I rushed outside. Dad and Mom must not know that their son was involved in an accident. Alec got into the driver’s seat as I did also to the passenger’s seat. Alerix settled into the back seat, and without asking if we were ready or not, he ignited the car’s engine and hit the road.A few minutes later, we stopped before a hospital building and rushed down. We headed inside and Alec took the initiative to ask the nurses at the desk where he was being admit
.ALEC.Alerix was yet to come back and Joe’s phone was unreachable. I paced to and fro as several thoughts lingered in my mind. She had hurried out of the house and I could not even ask her what was wrong. She also left her phone at home.Gosh, I was so worried about her.“Lestiana has left the city already, Alec,” Elristeya said, staring down at her fidgety fingers. No wonder she has been quiet since morning. I did not know how to console her. This was how it was going to end, I already knew since the beginning. I let out a sigh and sat close to her. “We were not even able to talk out our differences yet.” She added.I pursed my lips, contemplating the next words I was going to say. “Little Moon,” I drew her closer to her and she placed her head on my chest. “Sometimes, some issues should be left undiscussed till you get to a particular stage of maturity where they can be addressed without much arguments and with more understanding.”“But what is the guarantee that I'd meet her again
.LESTIANA.I was finally leaving this city. I watched how my secretary moved around to do the necessary things and what did I do? I stood right on spot, feeling numb from crying through out the night. I remember what my mother had told me she video called me this morning.“Les, make sure you hide those dark eye bags. You know your father don't like seeing them.” She said, not even caring to look at me with concern. I sniffed in and nodded like the princess I was. Like the princess who could not be rebellious. Like the princess who would be told to jump and she would not ask how high it was. Like a princess who hated the title but still has to act according to it.“Yes, mother.” I swallowed hard. I stared at my mother who was quite busy arranging some files and I wanted so much to bear my heart to her. I just wanted to tell how I was feeling and why I did not want to leave this city but before I could say anything, the call got disconnected and there was no even any goodbye. I never go
.ALEC.My stomach coiled with rage as I glared at the sleeping figure on my bed. Fury pumped through my veins in place of the blood and I could not help but seethe. How could she? How could she do that to me? I thought we were already beginning to trust each other and she could tell me everything. My first curled as I tried not to let the rage engulf me but I could not tamp the feeling of distrust. How could she not tell me that? She was keeping a lot to herself and I did not like it one bit. I was even coming off what I was. She knew how strained the relationship between my parents and me was. She knew everything about it and she hid this from me. She let out some inaudible words as she rolled to the other side of the bed. Maybe I should go for a run, I needed that. I needed to clear the fog in my head before I table this matter before her because I knew if I were to do it now, more damage would be done than repair so I turned on my heels and walked outside, the midnight air slashing
