I slide into the car across from my father. Without missing a beat, he immediately launches in on me.

“You are late.”

I take a deep breath.

“I was down here within ten minutes. I know you saw me.”

“You want me to count it as you being on time when you just spent the last 20 minutes growling at goddess-knows what and scaring your aunt’s pack members?” he asks angrily. “Half of them probably thought the pack was under attack.”
