Chapter 6

Kristin went to school this morning, she had a later class than I did, at 10, I think. So, when she woke up, she turned on the music to listen to some pop music. Which was not a nice way to wake up, even if it was the second time. Now don't get me wrong I like pop music sometimes, I mean I like Justin Timberlake, but not early in the morning before I had my coffee. I'm more of an old school music kind of girl, like Bon Jovi and Queen and I kind of like country music in the morning. When she realized I was still at home and not yet at school she asked why, of course. So, I just said my neck hurt and that was believable enough. I mean it kind of does, not the kind I expected it to hurt, more like a tingling feeling. It's kind of irritating to be honest.

When I finally got out of bed, deciding I couldn't go to sleep for the 3rd time this morning, I went to the bathroom to do my business. Got the braids out of my hair, now it was flowing in waves around my face and not the boring straight hair I had normally. I just put on some mascara and went to my closet. I picked out a navy-colored sweatshirt and some light blue skinny jeans to wear today. I got dressed and put on my converse shoes.

Just like Alex said he would, at exactly 11 am the doorbell rang. I don't know how he does it. Every time he comes over, he is exactly on time, not a minute to early or late.

I walked over to the door and opened it. There was Alex standing in a pair of navy jeans and a slim fit blue shirt. His style was different from Ashton, he always wore black jeans with holes and a leather jacket. Wait, why am I even comparing the two. They are nothing alike. And why am I even thinking about Ashton. I was suddenly literally snapped back to reality when Alex snapped his fingers.

"Hey Evie, are you all right? You looked kind of lost for a moment there."

"Hey Alex, yeah I am okay" I let him inside and gave him a quick hug. I suddenly had this weird feeling that I had to stay away from him, but just ignored it. "Do you want anything to drink?"

"No that's okay, are you sure you are all right?" he asked once again.

"Jeez Alex I AM FINE, HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU" I shouted, he looked shocked for a moment "oh my god, I am sorry, I don't know what happened. I'm never this short tempered" I was shocked at my own reaction.

"It's okay, it is probably because Ashton has a short temper and you're starting to share his emotions and feeling. But to answer your previous question, we don't have time to get something to drink now. We could stop bye Starbucks on the way to get a coffee to go?" He replied, like it was the most normal thing in the world.

"But I don't want to share anything with Ashton, I just want him out of my life" When I said that there was a sharp pain near my heart and held onto it. I looked at Alex with a scared look "What is happening to me Alex?"

"I am sorry I don't know, that is what we are going to figure out by going to the elders. Let's just go now and we will go to the mcdrive for a coffee."

"Yeah sure"

At the mcdrive I just got a cappuccino, a McMuffin BLT & Egg, a Croissant, some fruits, and apple juice. I really wanted fries with it, but Alex convinced me that no one should eat fries in the morning. Not that I'm really convinced, I mean is it ever too early for fries? Alex just got a McMuffin with Bacon & Egg and a coffee.

"I still don't understand how you can eat that much and still be as thin as a rake. Seriously how can a human eat this much?"

"I dotnaht knwahtwow" I said while eating.

"What?"

I swallowed my food "I said I don't know; it has always been like this. There are just some people who eat more and stay thin. I guess I am just lucky?" I spoke.

He just laughed and didn't say anything else. The rest of the journey we just listened to some music. Fortunately, Alex and I have almost the same taste in music, so we listened to some classic rock music the rest of the way.

We arrived at the elders' place, a woman in her late 20s or early 30s opened the door and told us to wait while she amounts our arrival.

"You can go in now" she said when she came back a couple of minutes later.

I felt like I was in some sort of fairy tale house and everything felt a little too cliche. There was this big hall, the roof was about 3 meter high. The door was just as big and made from dark wood.

"Don't just stand there, they have a busy schedule, you can admire the architecture later."

As we walked through the door the first thing, I saw was Ashton standing and talking to an older man, who was probably one of the so-called elders.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE" I shouted at Ashton, he flinched when he noticed that I was shouting at him.

"Evie, show some respect. These are the elders; they are here to help. As for Ashton, I called him to tell you would be here. It's not just your problem." Alex said. I looked at him angry.

"Well thanks for the warning"

"I didn't tell you because I knew you wouldn't come if you knew he would be here."

"Yeah, you got that right" the same sting I felt earlier reappeared. Ashton also looked hurt at my response "What are you looking at, I'm just here to get that stupid mark off my neck" he looked even more hurt than before. I had this feeling I wanted to comfort him, just run to him, and give him a hug. But then I remembered what he did to me and I was just as angry as before.

"Now now, calm down my child" a voice behind me said. I turned around and saw a petite woman with short grey hair, she was probably in her late 60s. "We will help you, but I think not in the way you would have hoped." I just looked at her confused.

The woman who let us in brought some drinks and closed the door behind her. "I will explain in a bit. First let me introduce myself, my name is Katherine Blankley, but you can call me Kat. I am one of the six elders here. Furthermore, we have Barnett Blankley, my brother" a man that looked like the male version of Kat just nodded his head in acknowledgment. "Cameron Watson" the much older man that was just talking to Ashton now nodded his head. "Maddison Johansson, Edward Jones and Raymond Harris" they all just gave me a small smile or a nod.

"Nice to meet you all, I think everyone knows who I am. Considering the reason why we are all here. But my name is Evie."

"Yes, we know who you are Evangeline. Well now that that is out of the way, let us begin" Kat said. "Ashton told us a bit about what happened."

"Okay so you know I rejected him and then he forced bit me" I replied at an angry tone.

"Evie please" Ashton said.

"No nothing Evie please Ashton, you know I don't want to be with you. At this point I would rather die. After all, you are the one that deliberately hurt me in the first place. You knew what would happen if you slept with other girls, while you found you so called mate. I woke up night after night in an excruciating pain, not knowing what was happening. I thought I was sick and dying and believe me I wanted to die in that moment" Ashton just looked at me with a pained and guilty expression.

"At this point that are your only two options Evie, I am sorry about what he did to you. But we don't know how a forced bite reacts to a human body. It never really happened before. Normally when a wolf finds his or her mate, it is like love at first sight. All they want to do is be with their mate. So, this is a complicated matter. There have also been a few deaths with a human that was bitten. I know this is not what you wanted to hear, but you must figure out what you would rather want. See it as some kind of couples' therapy, you humans have that right? When your mate is with you, the chance that you survive increase substantially."

"Wait what do you mean with chances of survival? Survival of what?" I Asked confused

"Oh, dear your change of course, or the awakening of a new wolf"

"WAIT WHAT? Did you know about this Ashton?"

"No, I am so sorry Evie, I didn't" He replied with so much remorse in his voice.

"What about you Alex? Is this why you wanted to come here?" I almost shouted at Alex, trying to control my emotions.

"I had my suspicion, but I wasn't sure. But you will figure it out. If one would survive the change it would be a stubborn person like you" Alex replied

"Well thanks, I guess. so, what now?" I asked.

"Now we chat and wait, would you like some tea?" Kat responded.
