Chapter 8

Kristin just ran into our dorm saying something had happened.

"Okay what's wrong?" I asked looking confused at my shocked best friend.

"Okay so I was just shopping for some groceries, because well you dropped the last ones. Not that I'm complaining. I mean I would probably drop them too if something like that would happen to me. But I got some vegetables and frui-

"Kristin focus, what happened" I asked.

"Oh yeah sorry, well as I walked out of the grocery story. I might have seen your ex."

"Huh? What ex?" I replied looking curious.

"Ashton, do you have any other exes I don't know about? Anyway, I think Ashton is in town" She said still with a shocked face.

"Oh, that ex, I know" I replied. Seriously that's it?

"What do you mean that's it. Wait, you knew? And you didn't tell me."

"Yeah, uhm I saw him already" Seriously what should I tell her, that he bit me, that that is the reason I knew he was in town. For me.

"When? Are you okay?"

"Why don't you drop the groceries in the kitchen and grab a plate of pasta. I just cooked and we will talk" Should I tell her? I think I have to call Alex "I have to go to my bathroom, be right back."

"Sure, try not to drop you phone in the toilet."

I laughed at her response "Kris that would be you where that happened, not me."

"Oh yeah that's right, whoops" She blushed. 

I walked over to my room, sat on my bed, and sent Alex a text.

Evie - Hey Alex can I call you I have to ask something.

Alex - Hey Eve, yeah sure just give me a minute to walk to my room.

Evie - Sure

Incoming call from Alex

I picked up the phone "Heeey so I kind of need to ask you something."

"Well yeah I kind of expected that when you sent me a text that you have to ask me something Eve" He said while laughing.

"Alex don't be a dick" I responded kind of irritated.

"Okay sorry but go ahead. What do you want to know? Yes, it hurts the first time you change, but it is so worth it. To just run around in the woods."

"Not really my question but thanks I guess, I was already afraid, thank you so much for making it worse" I replied sarcastically "But anyway I kind of want to tell Kristin what is going on. I know humans are not really supposed to know about us, but I just can't keep lying to her. I feel like I'm going to lose my best friend if I keep lying. So, I was just wondering what you think" It stayed silent for a moment before he replied.

"You should talk to her. Also did you just say us. As in you see yourself as part of our world now" You could almost hear the smirk in his voice. He's loving this.

"I did, didn't I. I guess I'm warming up to the idea. Still not sure about Ashton, but I'm getting there. But are you sure I should tell her? What if she freaks out and won't want to be friends anymore."?

"Eve, she's going to find out sooner or later, she might even take it better than you expect. I mean you live with her for goddess sake. I mean probably not for long, but still."

"True, wait what do you mean, probably not for long?"

"Well normally when a wolf meets his mate and marks her, or him I'm not judging, but the wolf can't leave his mate anymore. He will be literally in pain to stay away too long. And because Ashton is an Alpha he needs to go back to his pack. So that would mean you go with him. If he were not an Alpha he could have chosen to stay here, but that is not really an option now."

"Okay so let me get this straight. Not only did he force a bite on my neck, risking my life during the process. Now I also just have to leave my life behind, my life, that I build myself, my friends, college, and everything. Because he's a fucking Alpha. Well sorry to break it to him but I'm not moving." I was getting really angry at this moment; who does he think he is. To just dictate my life for me. It is my fucking life.

"I'm sorry Eve, but I think it's better to talk to him about this. For now, talk to Kristin. Like I said, she will probably take it better than you would think." He replied a little anxious. Probably feeling my anger.

"You're right, I'm sorry. I'm not angry at you. Thank you for the chat.

"Sure, you know you can always talk to me right. I know we haven't known each other that long but I still consider you a good friend."

"Yeah, you too Alex, goodnight"

"Goodnight Eve" with that he hangs up.

"You had a lot of work?" Kristin laughed as I walked back into the room.

"Yeah, something like that, look Kris I have to talk to you about something."

"Okay I don't like the sound of that but sure, what's up?" She replied looking curious.

"You have to promise me, you let me finish everything I have to say before you interrupt okay?" I replied with a serious tone.

"Okay now you're scaring me."

"No, it's okay. It's just I haven't told you everything that happened in Lupus Harbour." and so I told her everything. From the moment I arrived to why I left and how I got the bite. Kristin just looked at me calm. A little to calm, as she waited for me to finish my story. "Kris did you hear anything I just told you?"

"Yeah, okay so let me get this straight, you ended up in the hospital because your jackass mate was sleeping with other girls and that physically hurt you so much that you blacked out."

"Yess.." I replied anxious.

"I'm going to kill him" She growled, wait did she just growl.

"Did you just growl?"

"Yes, I did, I haven't been honest with you too. I know about werewolves."

"Wait what, have you always known?"

"No not exactly, you remember the night before you left for Lupus Harbour and my mom called talking about meeting some people and I got angry because I didn't want to leave on your last night here?"

"Yes?" I replied a little reluctant.

"That's how I met Alex, that night my mom and dad took me to the pack to meet the Alpha. Otherwise known as Alex."

"Wait, are you a wolf?"

"No, I am not, well not exactly. I don't have a wolf, but my family is descended from the wolves. So, we kind of still have the gene but something changed. Like I said, we can't turn into a wolf, but we are faster, have better healing abilities and are stronger than humans and some wolves too. The growling is kind of a habit. I guess it has something to do with being a small part wolf, I think. So yeah, my family kind of kept in contact with the pack, some say my ability to turn into a wolf is just dormant and if I would have a wolf mate and he marked me I would be a lot stronger than a normal wolf, almost like a beta or maybe even Alpha."

"Wow okay well damn, congrats, I guess. I hope you have mate, then we could run together if I even survive the change."

"You will, you are strong Evangeline Cross. And I will stay by your side, like any best friend would" Okay now I was crying, like someone opened the tap, full on crying. Kristin hugged me "Come here, you dork, you will be fine."

"Thank you" I sniffed "You really are the best friend a girl could ever ask for”.

"Yeah, I know, I'm awesome. You are alright though" I just laughed at her response "Aaahh look there is my best friend, not that crying wimp."

"The food is probably cold by now, how about I heat it up again and we will just have a movie night, like old times. You pick a movie and I'll go to the kitchen."

"Now see, that's why I'm friends with you, you read my mind."

With that I walked to the kitchen and warmed up the pasta and sauce. When I came back Kristin had picked a movie. I handed her a plate and some cutlery.

"Seriously twilight? I hate twilight, everything about it is bad, bad acting, bad script everything, how can you like that?" I cringed.

"Well do you know anything better with werewolves? You need some sort of education about being a wolf now?'

"No, I don't, well here goes 2 hours of torture”.

"Don't be like that, it will be okay I guess."

The rest of the movie we just laughed. Especially when Jacob showed Bella's father, he was a wolf. Kristin was like look wolves are so cuddly, when you change, I always want you to be in wolf form just so I could cuddle. That broke me into a fit of laughter.

"So, do you know what you're going to do about school now?" Kristin asked when the movie ended.

"No, I don't know. I still want to major in something with biology. I'm thinking either becoming a doctor or a veterinarian. I kind of want to know the biology after being a wolf. I mean I know that it is a different set of DNAs, and when you're bitten your DNA merges with the wolfs ones, which causes the change but still how?" I replied.

"Yeah, sorry can't help you with that. Maybe you can talk to the packs doctor, maybe she can help you with your choice. I mean if you would ever want to be a pack doctor, I wouldn't know what to study. On one side I would guess just normal medicine because they are part human, but there also part wolf so maybe both general medicine and veterinarian?" Yup that did it again, as I was once again in a fit of laughter.

"Yeah maybe, it would be cool though to be a pack doctor." I considered. "But where would I study, here or in Lupus Harbour. Alex told me Ashton can't stay away from me for too long because of the mate bond." I sighed.

"You will figure it out Evie. Just talk to Ashton about it, although I still want to rip his head off, I understand that he is your mate. You need to communicate about these things."

"Now you sound like Alex. Are you sure you are not mates?" I laughed.

"No, we are not, I would have known by now if we were. Also, we act more like siblings than lovers or mates, so that's a no go. I hope he meets his mate soon though; he deserves it." Kristin said.

"Yeah, it's a shame though, but you can't alter fate, as much as I wished I could."

"No don't be such a downer. Anyway, we should probably go to bed, it's already 1 am."

"Oh, shit you're right. I have an early class and afterwards I think I'm going to visit this pack doctor you were talking about. Goodnight."

"Goodnight Evie, I'll clean up here, you cooked." I gave her a hug and went to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth, brushed my hair, changed into my pjs, and went to bed.
