Chapter Twenty-six Laila POV Before the hunt, I had taken out time to go through the geographical mapping of the area, it was easy to get it especially when it was right on Ares office wall. I agree that it wasn’t the best thing to do, i mean to sneak into his office, for some reason he seemed to lock it making it easier for me to go in. I had taken pictures quickly and stepped out before someone caught me and rushed back to the room where i replicated the image on paper and studied the outline. Now that we raced into the greenlands, i placed the images in my head in front of me as i slowed down the further we moved. The rest brushed past me and moved further into the darkness while i stopped and stared. I noticed that Kevin slowed down and turned back to find me, he rushed to me. “What are you doing? It’s not time to stop-” he said with urgency. “We should be movinng, the hunters will find us in no time if we delay.” “I’ll be fine just go on ahead without me.” I said turning away
Chapter Twenty-SevenLaila PovIt wasn’t a really smart move to go all out to the plains by myself, especially since it was my first time participating in the hunt, but from my instincts, this was the best option I could go with. It was natural to want to follow the rest of the prey into the forest where there would be more protection and a harder chance of getting found and even running away from the hunters if they eventually found them. “What are you doing Laila, you still have the chance to go back and do as Kevin says.” I muttered to myself but my legs kept on forward. It would be bad for me if I got caught a few minutes into the hunt, embarrassing if I was the first. It would just prove to Ayesha and even the rest of the pack that it wasn't any much of a big deal compared to what they expected. To say that the reaction from Atlas or even Ares would be one of disappointment, Atlas mostly, Ares, I’m not so sure. Stop.My legs primed to a halt and my ears pounded as my heart thu
Chapter Twenty- Eight Laila Pov I gasped out as the bitter girl knocked the air out of me, it was just a gentle push that had all the air sucked out from my lung. My eyes bared at the plain sky above me as my thoughts fought hard to make a deal of what I had just seen. Then she hovered above me with her signature wicked smile. I swallowed and tried to get up to my feet but my legs wouldn’t move, her feet had locked down on my knees and while I struggled she pressed down harder making me yell out in pain. Her boots mercilessly pressed against my leggings, ripping them and fiddling the skin around my knees. “Arg-argh-.” I groaned as she removed her legs from mine and she stepped back but then came back to me and hovered. “That’s what I like to hear, the groans of someone who is powerless and useless.” She started and chewed on her bottom lips again. I glanced down at my knees and stared at the bruise on it, there was a small gash on it. I returned back to the ground and calmed my b
Chapter Twenty-NineAtlas PovIt was halftime and a considerate of Prey’s has been found including Rachael, what surprised me was that Laila, was not yet back neither was Estelle or Desmond.“You’re worrying-” Ares said to me while i searched the incoming prey’s who had been recently captured.“She could be in danger” I responded. “And then what? You’re going to save her? What happened to letting her find out things for herself.” He said watching with me. Rachael found us and walked in our direction with a slight frown on her face.“what is the girl thinking?” She asked quietly. “Kevin said she rushed into the plains, that’s nuts.” She admitted and i sighed.“Its nuts but smart, she’s one of the rest who haven’t been caught.” Ares said comfortbly, he made a small tug with his brows. Neither of us said any more as Ayesha welcomed back the new set. Most of them were exhausted and had injuries which were already healing. They found their friends and smiled in groups as they conversed ab
Chapter ThirtyKevin PovWhen Beta Atlas mind linked me to find Laila, i hurried back the paths to find her. I had seen her come back into the thick forest from where i scouted above but when i saw her with collins i had to figure something out before she got found. Now i was rushing farther away with her in my arms as Remy chased us, I wasn’t a fan of those three especially Estelle and Remy and i did my best to avoid them at all cost. Now Remy managed to find us even with me standing at the top of the tallest tree within the area.“Can’t we move unto the ground? Isn’t that better?” Laila asked as she held unto my back as i moved. “Not yet, unless you promise me that you’ll do exactly as i say.” I said to her and diverted down to the branches. Remy moved discreetly but i could perceive his scent, he was near and if i didn’t pick up my pace, he was going to get to us.“Fine-” I noticed that the scent from behind us was gone and i saw the chance to talk to her properly. I stopped at on
Chapter Thirty-One:Laila POV“You shouldn’t have let her in the game-”“She’s fine.” Another voice countered calmly. The two voices continued while my eyes remained shut, my body was as tired and unmoving but the noise around kept me conscious. I redcognized the firrst person as Ares and the second as Ayesha, whereever i was, it was a bit cold and the voices echoed over the wall. “You two aren’t helping, you can talk about this outside.” This time, this voice was closer and it was Atlas. The rest of the noise blurred away as i tried to find myself and when i slowly opened my eyes, i found Atlas watching me with his eyes trailed on my face. I pushed backwards and put my back against the headboard while i glanced down at my body.“What happened?” I asked noticing the bandage on my neck on the mirror close by, i placed my fingers around the material and scrapped against it gently. “You passed out-” he answered as he accessed me.“yeah, i remember. It was that remy guy- he- that guy-
Chapter Thirty-twoLaila PovI didn't get enough sleep that night, and when I tousled in my bed again for the umpteenth time because of what happened earlier. Staying between both Ares and Atlas ignited something in me and if I remained careless, I don't think I'll be able to control myself. “Arg- get yourself together Lai, this isn't the time to have fe-” I stopped myself from completing the sentence and sighed. I pushed myself off the bed and walked over to the mirror where I stared at my reflection in the mirror. The cast had been removed and the faint claw markings remained on my neck, Atlas said it was only a Matter of time before it faded out. Atlas. The feel of him against me had me chewing my lips, why did it bother me so much how I felt? Why now? I never had any attraction well, not the kind I was having but the one that was enough to send heat all over me. I brushed my hair backwards and rushed to the door, now I was thirsty. I needed water, I stepped out of my room and h
Chapter Thirty-ThreeAres PovIt was the day for the party and I was yet to tell Laila about it. It had skipped me until the reminder popped up on my phone. Now I had to talk to her. I got out of my chair and walked towards the door when I halted. It had been a while since I'd spoken to her and from our last engagement it was awkward as hell. She ran away and hid inside her room for the rest of the night. No one was in the house when I stepped outside, Atlas was supposed to be in because he was off duty for today but he was nowhere in, Laila was probably off training as usual. She wasn’t slacking off and after her new control of reflexes she was able to start working on something new with Ayesha.I found them resting when i got to the training ground, Laila was lying on her back while she looked up in the sky while Ayesha was gulping down on a bottle of water in her hand. She noticed me and acknowledged my arrival, Laila remained on the ground with no effort to move away from the grou
