VINCENT

Her honey colored eyes were wide with fear even as I approached her. She seemed to be terrified of me, not that I cared. I just needed to understand why her flowery scent was bothering me so much. The first time I'd perceived it, was the night I had ended up at her house. I had been too out of it to investigate the reason why my wolf became restless each time we perceived the scent.

The slave squeezed her eyes shut, once I was close enough. Her flowery scent hit my nostrils and I nearly groaned. My wolf had just been alerted. His excitement caused him to take over. When my fangs protruded, I knew that my eye color had changed. It was at this point that I realized why my wolf was reacting that way. The small creature cowering in front of me, with her back to the wall, was my mate.

With a growl of annoyance, I pulled away and turned away from her. I didn't want a mate. Infact, I'd been doing just fine without a mate. Even if I was going to have a mate, why on Earth would it be a weak, exiled Omega?!

"Get out!" I roared. She scurried out of my quarters like a frightened mouse.

'She's our mate whether you like it or not. Don't make a scene. We need her' Aries, my wolf said.

It was the first time in a long time since he was speaking to me.

"We don't need her. She's weak. She will only become a burden" I retorted, still annoyed.

I stared at the tray of food on the table, my appetite suddenly vanishing. Frustrated, I stormed out of my quarters and went to the gym. The thought of the slave becoming my Luna sickened me.

....

I was sitting in my office when I heard the knock on the door. Jared, my beta walked in.

"Where is the slave now?" I asked.

"In the dark room. Ava brought her dinner" he responded.

I slammed my palm on the desk, annoyed.

"I thought I asked her to stay away from the slave. Why on Earth didn't she listen to me?!"

"She has never listened to you, Vincent. I mean... she's the only one who has the guts to face you" he said, a visible smile on his face.

I glowered at him and he lowered his gaze, a muffled apology leaving his lips.

"Why haven't you asked?" I said and he looked up, his gaze meeting mine.

"I didn't want to pry. I just thought you might have a good reason for bringing the exiled omega to the pack. You never do things without giving it a lot of thought. We trust in your decisions"

"She's the one who nursed my injuries" I said to him. His eyes widened as he processed my statement.

"For someone who had tried to get a fresh start, she was a little careless" he commented and I rubbed my jaw.

"She was also compassionate enough to take me in. She wouldn't have taken me in if she knew that I was a werewolf, though."

"Oh... your scent. She couldn't smell it"

"That's right"

"Does she recognize you as the person she treated?"

"I think she does"

"How sad. She must think that you're an ungrateful person"

I let out a dark chuckle as I ran my fingers through my hair.

"I did her a favor by making her my slave. They were going to kill her. It was the least I could have done"

Jared grinned.

"For someone who is ruthless and has a temper as hot as molten lava, you are kind" he said.

"You know, I'm starting to regret taking her in" I said, my countenance darkening.

Jared cleared his throat, a nervous look on his face.

"She's just a slave. I don't think saving her life is a bad thing. As it is, the pack members are already bullying her."

"I don't care. I saved her life. I've played my part" I said and Jared snorted in amusement.

"I know how you are and how you've always been. I just hope that for your sake, someone will become the reason you can smile and be kind"

I looked away, an uneasy feeling making my stomach churn. I hated it when he became all emotional like that.

"You should get yourself a Luna, soon"

I glared at him and he shrugged.

"Just saying"

"You know, the only reason I'm letting all of this slide, is because you're my beta" I said and he nodded.

"Of course, I know that. I get afraid of you, sometimes. I mean, it's hard not to. You always look scary. I don't even remember what your smile looks like."

"Jared, that's enough" I said.

His expression faltered when he saw the look on my face.

"I apologise, Alpha. I'll take my leave now" he said and walked away.

...

Five days had passed since I brought the exiled omega to the pack. Ever since the day she came to my quarters, I hadn't set my eyes on her. I would rather not see her again. I could solve the problem of her being my mate, by rejecting her. But, I was just bidding my time. Besides, I had more important things to take care of as the Alpha of my pack.

Jared walked in after knocking on the door. I looked up from the documents I'd been working on, my gaze meeting his.

"Did you find out what I asked you to look into?" I asked.

"I did"

"And?"

He let out an exasperated sigh.

"It's a pitiful story"

"Pitiful? The slave does look pitiful. I guess her story would be pitiful as well" I said, leaning back on my seat.

"Tell me. What grave offense did she commit? Did she steal? Commit murder?"

"She was accused of murdering her mate on the night of the mating ceremony"

"What are you saying? It doesn't make sense. She seems to be someone who can't hurt a fly" I said, my brows furrowed.

"That's exactly what I thought. So, I inquired more about the situation and I found something interesting" Jared said.

"What is it?"

"They said she cooked up a false story. They told me that she had lied about werewolves from the Crescent Creek Pack murdering her mate because he knew their secret"

I blinked, surprised by the information I had just heard. I had a feeling that there was something fishy about the story.

"What secret did she claim was discovered?" I asked.

"The plan of the Crescent Creek Pack to destroy other werewolves"

This so-called secret was no news to me. As a matter of fact, I was probably the only Alpha in the town's werewolf council who was aware of the rumours rising discreetly. But, if the slave had become mateless as a result of her pack members denial, it was quite unfortunate. I know I can be ruthless and unforgiving, but what her pack members had done was terrible. Now, I didn't think that werewolves had actually murdered her mate. I also didn't think that she had murdered her mate. She must have heard something that made her believe that her mate had been murdered by werewolves. She was merely a victim of ignorance. Nevertheless, there was something fishy about the death of her mate. If he hadn't been killed by werewolves, how did he end up dying?

Now that I knew that the slave had been a victim of circumstances, I didn't know what to do with her. I couldn't keep her as a slave after discovering the truth of the matter. I couldn't send her away, either.

"What are you going to do now, Alpha?"

"She will remain an unofficial slave. But, officially, she is going to be a mere addition to the pack. She will no longer stay in the dark room"

"Go and make arrangements. Bring her here as well." I said and he left.

Few minutes later, there was a knock on the door.

"Come in" I said, my gaze resting on the door.

The door creaked open and the slave walked in with her gaze lowered. She approached my desk with small, unconfident strides.

"You called for me" she said with a small voice.

"What is your name?" I asked and she flinched visibly.

I was starting to get impatient already.

"M-my name is-"

"Speak up, will you?!" I snapped.

"Rylee. Rylee Shaw" she croaked.

"Why were you exiled?" I asked and she stiffened.

"I-I was accused of killing my mate"

"Did you?"

She frantically shook her head, her gaze still trained on the floor.

"I would never. He was my best friend" she said with a shaky voice.

"Who killed him, then?" I questioned.

She went quiet, her small frame had gone rigid.

"Have you become dumb?" I demanded, tapping my foot on the floor.

She shook her head slowly.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you" she rasped.

"I didn't ask you to tell me a story I can believe. I only asked you to tell me who killed your mate"

"Members of Crescent Creek Pack. They killed him because he found out about their plan to take over other werewolf packs" she said, her voice reflecting her pain.

"I believe you" I said and she looked up, her teary eyed gaze meeting mine.

"You do?"

RYLEE I was surprised by his statement. It was the first time I was hearing those words since my life became a mess. Tears filled my eyes and I slowly met his gaze. Despite how intense his icy gaze was, I couldn't help but feel grateful that there was someone who believed me. "You do?" "That isn't the point" He said and I lowered my gaze. Considering the fact that my little excitement had gone down a notch, I was still relieved about the fact that he wasn't accusing me of making up stories, just like every other person had done. He was cold and indifferent. But, at least, he had a good sense of judgement. The man with the brown hair walked in, his gaze meeting mine. "Jared, show her to her new room" Alpha Vincent said as he turned away from us. "Come with me" Jared said and I quietly followed him after sparing the Alpha one last glance. When Jared and I got to our destination, we walked into a small room which had a mattress in it. The room felt bare. Still, I was relieved th

His cold voice snapped me out of my stupor."I-I-"He strode towards me and grabbed me by the forearm. Then, he dragged me towards the door, his nails digging into my skin. He pushed me to the ground and glowered at me."Get out!" He roared. His eyes had turned red and there was a golden ring around his iris. I had never seen anyone with such unique eyes.I stumbled to my feet, knowing that he could really hurt me if I remained anywhere around him. I took off in the direction of my new room.

VINCENT "What did you just say?" I demanded, glaring daggers at the omega standing in front of me. She had paled to an alarming extent, her hand covering her mouth. If I wasn't in a foul mood, I would have reacted in a less hostile manner. I knew that I was goodlooking. Infact, I'd gotten used to the stares the female species throw at me, but no one had ever complimented me in such a fierce manner. Let me tell you, it takes guts. "I-I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking. I didn't mean to blurt out such rubbish" she said, lowering her head. I could smell her fear. "Why were you eavesdropping?" I asked and she shook her head. "You must be mistaken. I didn't eavesdrop. I came here to see you, but-" "You heard something, didn't you?" I cut her off. She raised her head. "Yes, I did. But, it was accidental, I swear!" She said, her eyes wide with panic. Frustrated, I pinched the bridge of my nostrils and stepped aside from the entrance of my study. She threw me a questioning stare. "Go. In" I

RYLEE All of this was a bad dream, so I thought. My knees had just buckled and I felt like time had come to a halt. "You have nothing to say, do you?" Alpha Vincent said and I shook my head. "You're talking about Rose? She went missing?" I said. "That's right. Where did you take her?" Jared asked. "I didn't kidnap her, I swear. I wouldn't do such a thing. We talked about flowers that day. We didn't do anything special. You have to believe me" "Rose is sixteen. She's an unmated omega. You have to tell us where you kept my child, you wench!" Rose's mother yelled at me. I lowered my head, squeezing my eyes shut. Why was things never going my way? "You heard her. Tell us where Rose is" Alpha Vincent said, a blank look on his face. I stared at him, mentally pleading for him to believe me this time as well. "I didn't kidnap anyone. I talked with her. But, that was it. It's the truth!" "You liar! Where have you kept my daughter?! Where is she?!" Rose's mother was filled with so muc

She has to leave" I said and Jared nodded. Then, he left.Few minutes later, he returned, looking provoked."She refused to leave without seeing you. She said she would spend days waiting at the gate if need be" he said to me, a frown on his face."What does she want with me now? An alliance?""It's possible" Jared said."She should forget it. RYLEE Alpha Vincent's burning gaze was locked with mine, as I stared at him, shocked."W-what?" I stuttered. I was having a hard time processing what he'd just said. As he drew nearer to me, I moved backwards. I ended up being trapped between him and the wall. His right arm was planted right on the wall, his piercing gaze locked with mine. For a moment, I was distracted by his eyes. They were oh so blue. "That's what you want, isn't it?" Alpha Vincent droned and I swallowed hard. "N-no...I" "Cut the crap. You really are pitiful. You almost got me there. I know you're desperate. You don't have to make it so obvious" he said. The more he spoke, the more I became upset. Few seconds ago, he'd sounded different. The look in his eyes had been different as well. For a moment, I'd wanted to believe that his intentions were true. He told me that she'd told him that she was heading out for a night walk.I didn't want to think about the fact that my words might've pushed her to do something as reckless as that. RYLEE Jared stared at me without saying anything. He'd been doing so since he found Vincent lying on the floor, unconscious. Jared wasn't asking me questions, but I knew his mind was full of unanswered questions. I wouldn't be surprised if he had doubts about the fact that Vincent had collapsed all of a sudden. He probably believed I had done something to him. The problem was that I had no idea what had really happened between us right before he passed out. I felt like I had blacked out. I couldn't remember walking back to the pack house or talking to Alpha Vincent. I was just as confused as Jared. I knew he wouldn't believe me even if I told him. It's why I kept my mouth shut and continued to bear the weight of Jared's sceptical gaze. Eventually, he broke the heavy silence. "What did you do to him?" I kept my gaze trained on the ground, racking my brain for answers. "I didn't do anything. He just collapsed" I mumbled and he tsked."Are you sure about that? What exactly did y

I embraced her and closed my eyes. "I missed you so much, mum. You don't have to worry. It's all over" I said to her. She sighed and began to stroke my hair. ANDREA "Did you really it's going to be that easy? How ridiculous," the stranger said, taking another step towards us. Alpha Vincent silently moved Rylee behind him, his eyes glowing a bright red and gold. It was at this point that I put two and two together. I realized that the stranger was the demon who had tried to steal Rylee's soul energy. He had acquired a new body, it seemed."Hang in there for me, okay?" Jared whispered to me. I nodded feebly, resting my head against his back. It was taking me a lot of energy to keep myself from crashing to the ground. My head hurt too much and I could barely concentrate. "I'll kill you. This time, you won't be able to return," Vincent snarled, his fiery gaze menacing. The demon cackled and goosebumps appeared on my skin. Shivers ran down my spine and fear doubled my heart rate. "You can try. This time you're trapped. The sisters did quite a good job. They fooled you and trapped you.""What the hell do you want from us?!" Ava cried.

ANDREA None of us moved. I stood by the door, rooted to the spot. Jared had gone so still, he was barely breathing. I waited for him to give me a pathetic excuse. I waited for him to try to convince me that what I was seeing wasn't everything. Anger quickly overshadowed me when I realized that he had no intention of bringing up any excuse. It didn't make any sense. He had told me I was everything to him. Was it all a lie?"You have questions, don't you? Don't just stare at us. Go ahead, ask away" Kathryn said. My gaze met Jared's and I tightened my fists until they were pale knuckled. I could see the regret and remorse in his eyes. "Jared, get up" I said through gritted teeth. He didn't move or say anything. Kathryn let out a breathy chuckle, her fingers lightly grazing my mate's bicep. My stomach tightened as I fought the urge to lash out at her. She was taunting me. "Get your hand off him, Kathryn" I hissed. "What? Are you going to bite me?" She drawled, her eyes lit with excitem

She asked and I opened my mouth to speak. With my face contorted with pain, I brought a hand to my aching throat. It felt as though I'd swallowed grit."Water" I managed to croak with a wince. Someone else started to help me sit up. So, I looked up and saw Rylee's face. She gave me a small smile and helped me lean against the pillows while Cara poured me a glass of water."Thank you" I whispered, accepting the glass of water from her. I took a sip, swallowing as slowly as I could, wincing every few seconds."How are you feeling? Dizzy? Nauseous?" Cara questioned.I lowered the glass of water and blinked, realizing that I wasn't really feeling as terrible as before."I feel weak, that's all" I whispered.Rylee and Cara exchanged glances. JARED Back and forth, I kept pacing. Jonathan and Cara were attending to Andrea while I waited restlessly. I couldn't shake off the feeling of foreboding that weighed down on me. My hands trembled as my anxiety swelled. Just before Andrea and I had made it to the infirmary, she'd suffered a seizure. It had scared the living daylights out of me. From the look on Jonathan's face when we'd arrived, I knew that Andrea's condition was worrying. Thoughts swam my mind until I thought I would go crazy. Opal was on edge as well. We couldn't stand the idea of Andrea being used and destroyed by the demon. The fact that I was completely powerless was worsening the situation. A feminine cry pierced the air and I turned towards the entrance of the hallway where a woman was being wheeled in on a stretcher. I recognized her to be Kathryn. "Hurry! She's bleeding out!" One of the women cried as they moved her past me. Kathryn had her eyes squeezed shut. With tears and sweat on her face, she c

Jared asked. "Nicely" I said, my cheeks warming. Jared chuckled and pressed a kiss to the top of my head. "As much as I want to stay in bed with you, all day, we have a meeting to attend" He stated, stroking my hair. I raised a brow."We?""That's right.""With Vincent?""We are meeting with Cara, Jonathan's fiancee. She said she wants to talk to us."We both got out of bed and went through our morning routine. His hair curled up at his nape and disappeared underneath the collar of his shirt. With unsteady hands, I pushed my upper body off her, a gasp escaping my lips when I saw the blood stains covering the left side of her face. "Rylee... your face" I breathed, petrified. She moved me off her and sat up. My eyes nearly fell out of their sockets when I saw the ruined material barely covering her torso and chest. Her forearms were stained with blood as well. Letting out a sigh, she rose to her feet and pulled her hair up into a bun. Then, she folded her arms across her chest. "Are you back to your senses now?" She asked and realization sank into me. Horrified, I stumbled backwards, away from her. "I... I... I did this?" I stammered, my eyes brimming with tears. "Not exactly. The demon was trying to kill me. I jammed my elbow into your face and knocked you out" My gaze drifted and fell on the bloodied knife lying on the ground
