136 I'll Wait For You

Selene’s POV

"Princess Selene, are you sure you don't want to go out and see him?" The maid asked me in a low voice, standing at the window, looking out.

I am struggling now, wrinkling the handkerchief in my hand.

"He'll be gone by midnight," I said, more to comfort myself than to answer her.

"It's windy," whispered the maid, closing the window. "I wonder if it will rain tonight."

Rain? My heart was tight again, but I controlled myself not to look in the direction of the window, pretending not to care.

The maid didn't say much. She cleared the table, whispered "Good night" to me, and left the house.

I slowly turned my head and looked at the closed window.

Beowulf was standing in the garden in front of my house, and he said he would wait for me until midnight.

I gritted my teeth, not knowing what to do. Now everyone is waiting for my decision. If I take his ring, I make a promise to him. If he wins the war, he'll take me back to his country.
