Freya's POV
If there was one thing I've learnt in the Crescent Moon pack, it was that mercy was a privilege only the powerful could afford and I was far from powerful.
I tightened my grip around the silver tray in my hands, balancing the steaming bowls of stew as I weaved through the crowded dining hall.
The scent of roasted meat and expensive ale, loud laughter and murmured chatter filled the air. Obviously, a celebration was in play but I had no clue what for. It was probably another pointless display of Alpha Daemon's arrogance.
Alpha Daemon was a name that made me sick whenever I said it.
I hated him. Hated his son. Hated every single wolf in this heaven’s forsaken pack that saw me as nothing more than a slave, a thing to be used, a discarded omega. I loathed them all.
The tray wobbled slightly when a guard bumped into me, but I steadied it before anything could spill.
“Watch where you're going, Pig!” He growled at me.
“I'm sorry, sir.” I apologized like I always did.
“Get out of my sight.” He said, brushing past me.
This wasn't the first time someone had tried to “accidentally” make me drop something. The punishment for clumsiness was always harsh and the bastards enjoyed watching me suffer.
I walked faster, ignoring the whispers and insults thrown my way. There was no point in replying to them. I was already used to them.
I reached the head table, where Alpha Daemon sat like a self-satisfied pig. His green eyes flickered to me and he smirked.
“Ah, my favourite little pet,” he leaned back in his chair and grinned. “Always so obedient when you're working.”
My stomach twisted, but I forced myself to keep my expression as blank as possible.
“Your Majesty,” I said with a low bow, placing the tray in front of him. Years of pain had taught me that reacting only encouraged him.
Next to him sat his son, Xaden. The future Alpha.
Unlike his father, Xaden was quiet but was still cruel. He never touched me like his father did, never spoke to me or laid a hand on me like his father did but his silence to it all was a choice. He had the power to stop what happens to me every single day but he never does.
“Well?” Alpha Daemon arched a brow. “Aren't you going to thank me for letting you breathe another day?”
A snarl curled in my chest, but I swallowed it down. “Thank you, Alpha,” I murmured. “Thank you for letting me breathe another day.”
“Good.” He smirked, pleased with my submission.
Good girl?
I wanted to drive a dagger through his throat. Instead, I cursed and turned on my heels before he would think of diabolical ways to torment me.
The second my feet hit the kitchen floor, I let out a shaky breath. My body shivered and my knees gave way to the floor. I slumped to the floor on my knees and sobbed quietly.
This was hell.
Being alive was as good as being dead and I preferred the latter very much.
“Freya?” A voice whispered.
I turned to see Brynn, another omega, poking her head through the wooden door. “Oh hey, Brynn.”
“You okay?” She asked, entering fully into the kitchen.
Unlike me, Brynn was born into servitude. Her parents were nothing more than breeders for the pack’s population. Since she was born, she had never known freedom but she longed for it just as much as I did.
“I'm fine.” I whispered, wiping my wet cheeks.
She darted her eyes left and right before stepping closer and crouching next to me. “Hey, I overheard something.”
Despite her quiet demeanor, Brynn had a weakness for gossip.
“What did you hear this time?” I hate gossip but hearing them was the same as getting information.
She leaned in closer. “The ongoing party was thrown to welcome Alpha Aaron from the West Kingdom Pack. I heard talk about a resistance — a group fighting to free slaves wolves like us.”
My breath hitched. “Resistance? A chance to escape?”
“Yes,” Brynn whispered. “They said Alpha Aaron is planning to wed his daughter to Xaden, but secretly, he's working with the rebels. I even hear he's —”
Before she could complete her sentence, a sharp voice interrupted us. “What are you two whispering about?!”
“Nothing, Beta.” I said quickly, lowering my gaze as we both scrambled to our feet.
We didn't need to see the owner of the voice to know who it was.
It was clearly Beta Jasper, Alpha Daemon's second-in-command.
Without another word, he sauntered into the kitchen, beholding us with a suspicious look in his golden eyes.
“Hmm.” He spoke finally after giving the room a glance-over. I had wanted for him to leave so badly. The man didn't do anything but it was difficult for me to breathe. I wondered if Brynn felt the same effect of his presence as I did.
With both his hands clasped behind his back, he turned to look at me. “You better not cause any trouble, Freya. We all know how you love stirring up trouble.”
I forced a smile. “I wouldn't dream of stirring up trouble, sir.”
Beta Jasper’s voice twisted into a smirk before he turned and left, leaving behind the faint smell of stale tobacco and the putrid smell of his arrogance.
I exhaled, my heartbeat accelerating in my chest.
I never took into account his threats. He and everyone else in the pack didn't forget to remind her of her place everyday nor forget to threaten her. She was used to it already.
What kept ringing in her ears were Brynn's words — ‘Resistance’, ‘fighting to free slaves wolves like us’
She let out a shaky breath and smiled. “Finally, a way out.”
That night, I barely slept.
My mind raced with endless possibilities, with images of what I hadn't had in a long time — hope and freedom.
But fate was cruel.
Freedom seemed out of reach.
Blood-curdling screams jolted me awake, followed by the unmistakable smell of blood. I pushed back the covers the moment a deafening crash shook the very walls of the room.
I ran with two feelings weighing heavy in my chest — fear and a thirst for freedom.
The pack was under attack.
If I slipped away now, no one would notice.
I darted through the chaos, dodging falling debris and weapons, and bringing past clashing warriors.
My heart pounded, each step accusing me of abandoning my fellow wolves. I wanted to stop and turn back but a tiny voice at the back of my head kept telling me I was meant to run away from the chaos rather than remain with it.
Freedom was so close I could taste it.
Freya's POVFreedom was so close I could taste it.But as I was running, I felt it — a presence, a shift in the air. Something, someone was here. Ahead stood a figure, eyes glowing red with crimson and bloodlust. My heart leapt to my throat and my brain screamed at me to stop and turn back. Turn back. Turn back.Freya, turn back! But I didn't.I loomed near and my stomach dropped.No. No, no, no.“You’re leaving?” Xaden said, his muscular body blocking my path. His menacing, red eyes locked onto mine, unreadable. His shirt was torn, a streak of blood was smeared across his face and I stared. None of it was his own. I'm sure.He took another step and I instinctively reeled back. He probably sensed my fear and took another step back. And for the first time in my life, when I looked at him, I didn't see arrogance, not cruelty or rage. His gaze had melted into something softer, something different. It was something I had never noticed before.“You were going to leave,” he said quietly
Freya's POVIt took one second to realize the scent was coming from him. From Xaden. Lavender and wildberries only meant one thing and I was too shocked to say it.It couldn't be. The Moon Goddess wasn't this cruel. But the truth was glaring enough. Cruel enough. The scent grew stronger when I stopped near his body. It wasn't an illusion. It was reality.Xaden was my mate. He was the one the Goddess chose for me.I nearly scoffed. She must have been playing some kind of sick joke if this is my reality.Xaden Andreas, the man I had spent years hating. The man whose father stole my dignity and destroyed whatever I had left. The man who looked me in the eye and told me I was nothing but a sex toy was now my mate. The man who had thrown stones at me and mocked me for being a lowly omega.No. I refuse to accept this. I inched towards Xaden till there was no space left between us and I kicked. I kicked him in the shoulder so hard that my good leg was so hard that my body trembled. “W
Freya's POVXaden exhaled sharpy and ran his hand through his damp hair and said those two, cruel words. “No.”I blinked. “Excuse me?”“No, Freya. My answer is no,” he replied. “I can't accept your rejection. I won't.” A cold, sick feeling twisted in my stomach. “You don't get to decide that after what you've done!”He took a step closer, his presence a force that dominated but I refused to shrink from. “Actually I do, Freya. A rejection has to be mutual for the mating bond to be broken completely.”The ground felt like it had been ripped in two underneath my feet. “You fucking bastard!” Xaden didn't even flinch. “Call me whatever you want. It won't change anything.”My chest was tight with fury and burst right through me before I could stop it. “Why are you doing this, Xaden? You don't even want me. You've spent 18 years making that very clear!”His expression didn't even change and it infuriated me.“That was before,” he said.A bitter laugh escaped my lips. “Oh... so now that I'm
Freya's POVThe figure raised his sharp, silver blade and pointed it at Xaden. “Kill him.”And just like that, I had a choice to make. Let them take him. Let them kill him.Let them free me from this wretched bond.OrMy fingers curled into fists and I swallowed hard. I am going to regret this.I took a step forward, startling everyone , including Xaden.I wasn't sure if that would happen next but one thing was certain : Fate wasn't done screwing me over. ****For years, I had dreamt of escaping Alpha Daemon's iron grip, of tearing down the Crescent Moon pack, of watching it burn to the very ground while I stood over her ruins.I had prayed and cried day and night for freedom. And now?I was free. But it wasn't what I expected.Xaden was rotting in the resistance’s dungeon, exactly where he deserved to be while I was here among the wolves fighting for justice and freedom. I should've been happy. I should've been glad. But why did it feel like there was a chain wrapped around my
Freya's PovI left the dungeon and went back to my room first. Logan would have to wait a little before I would come to see him because I needed to try to digest a little of what Xaden just told me.All through the time I've known Logan and his desire to free more wolves who are bound by the slave rule, I got inspired and even admired his good heart, but Xaden planting a new thing in my heart was sort of disrupting. Doubts were gradually seeping into my heart and I didn't like the feeling.“But then, I still need to confirm, maybe.” I said under my breath as I squinted my eyes while staring into blank space. After pondering for a while, I walked back out of my room and walked down to the common room and signaled to one of the maids who were cleaning up.“Where is Logan?” I asked calmly.“I saw him heading out to the field about fifteen minutes ago.” She informed me and I nodded my head as my eyeballs drifted to the right.“Alright, thanks.” I appreciated her and stepped out of the com
Freya's PovI felt happy that he looked willing to consider anything that I was going to ask of him, but more importantly, I had to put it in a way that he would feel it's alright to grant it.“I want you to let go of Xaden, but make him my personal guard.” I made my request known to him.I could tell he wasn't expecting such a request as he blinked his eyes in surprise. Then he looked away and paced around slowly for a while before he halted before me.“Why would you want that?” He asked me, and I gulped down my saliva, trying to maintain a confident and an unshaken look. His eyes somehow seemed to put me under pressure and it was difficult to speak for a while until I finally found my voice.“It feels good to see him working for me after years of torment that I've gotten from him and his father. It feels good to order him around and also, he can be very useful being my personal guard.” I explained to him and he sighed while playing with his beards.“And how certain are you that once
After Freya had a brief meeting with Xaden, she went back to her room and laid down on her bed, thinking about the risks involved in what she had gotten herself into. But still, she wanted to see to it to the end.If truly Logan was a son of a bitch, then it would be fortunate for her that she had planned ahead and would definitely scale through any attack against her or Xaden because right now, the one who she saw as her worst enemy seemed to make her feel like he would be a great ally. While a lot was going through her head, she drifted off to sleep and her body became so relaxed, but her mind had something prepared for her.~Dream state~Suddenly, she met herself in a deserted, dark land. It was night and there was no moon or stars. Some trees had snapped into two, therefore forming an angle 90 while some had just withered and there were holes in them. The air was chilly and everywhere looked wrecked.“Now, what am I to do here?” She said under her breath with her eyes drifting le
Freya's Pov “Oh, my goodness!” I voiced out as I woke up abruptly, with my chest heaving up and down. What sort of dream could that be?I rubbed off the sweat which was over my forehead and got down from the bed. The reason I found myself having such a dream or would I call it a nightmare? I really don't understand.I put on a robe to cover up the nightwear which I put on and then I walked out of my room and headed out to the field, walking step by step and receiving the fresh air which felt so good.Although, I've been happy ever since I was saved from the hands of Xaden and his father, and have been living here, doing whatever I wanted, but it still didn't feel like total freedom. I still haven't felt what it's like to have a life and try out so many things. I wrapped my robe around my body tighter due to the cold that was beginning to get to me and continued to stare at the stars far ahead that I don't think I would stop admiring. They just get more beautiful, every night.“I th
Freya’s PovIt was nightfall already and It had been an hour since I woke up, but I wanted to be certain that I was mentally prepared for what Logan had to say. A knock came on my door and I looked towards that direction, then got down from my bed and walked up to the door.“Who is it?” I asked calmly.“It’s Derek. Logan asked that you should see him at the field.” He informed me.“Alright, thanks.” I said, and turned to my bed.“Uhm… I kind of want to see you briefly; if you don’t mind opening the door. That voice was a little familiar, and yes, my curiosity to remember who it was, and to know what he had to say, got the best of me.I turned the key and then opened the door only to see that same man who had been torturing Xaden like he hated him from his mother’s womb.“It’s you.” I said as a part of me was still behind the door. “Yeah. I just wanted to apologize for being too overwhelmed by the stress I went through, without thinking about what you could have gone through personall
Freya’s PovSeeing him look at me with no expression on his face, I felt everything inside of me go tense and frozen. I couldn’t just tell what was going on in his head and what he could do to me if he got too mad.“You, Freya. Where. Have. You. Been?” He asked, saying the words one after the other. My fingers were beginning to tremble, but I took my hands to the back to ensure that he wouldn’t see it. If he saw my fingers trembling, then any word I was going to cook up for him, there was a high chance that he wouldn’t believe it or take it serious. But I wasn’t going to tell him of my journey to the other realm as I had no time to explain what could bring me more stress or trouble. With the kind of person that he is, he might want me to take him there to prove it or might even have ridiculous thoughts like leading the people there and calling it home.“Well, I’ve been in hell.” I responded with a straight face as well. And his eyebrows creased in confusion.“Hell? How?”“A few days a
Before Marie could get so close to her, she turned off the biggest switch in there and Marie halted abruptly and powered down.“Yes! Yes! We did it! We did it!” Freya rejoiced happily with her wolf, feeling on top of the world.Freya was so happy that she had finally accomplished the task which felt impossible before and just couldn't wait back to the woman and inform her that she has finally granted her desires.“Now, how do we get back?” Her wolf asked, and that brought Freya to the next reality. But fortunately for them, a portal opened up.“I think that's our ride back to the one who gave us the task.” Freya said with a smile. Then she shut the door that held all power switch and moved the robot somewhere a little far from the door, and destroyed it. After destroying it, she dashed towards the portal and walked into it with peace filling her heart. As she entered, she found herself back to the garden where the woman was reading.“Ma’am! I'm back.” Freya announced to her.The woman
Freya looked back at Marie who was smiling wickedly.“Why would you care which way I choose to die, anyway? I'll rather not die in your hands.” Freya voiced out to her, but Marie frowned.“Get the hell away from there right now or I won't make your death an easier one.” Marie threatened in anger.Freya felt that for Marie to be so keen on not allowing her so close to the maze only meant that there was something important in there and she feels that there is a chance she might find it.“You are not the one to choose how I'll die.” Freya said in between her teeth and stepped in, then closed the door shut.Knowing that Marie might be able to find her easily in the maze, she started searching around if she would probably see a main power switch.“We must have been the most stressful guest she has ever had.” Her wolf uttered.“I bet. But this is going to be the end of her because she can't keep living around here and luring innocent people into the maze or getting them killed to her amusem
Back at the redemption pack, some people who knew Freya were a little worried about her while some others just felt like she had left the pack to be on her own.Logan and Xaden were on that bridge. But the only difference was that Logan felt it was Xaden who helped her escape, but won't speak.“I said tell me where she is right now!” Logan voiced out in anger as he drove a punch to Xaden’s left cheek.Xaden's head turned to the other direction as a result of the punch and blood trickled from the left corner of his lips, down to his chin and dropped just once to the ground. He was bound to a wall in the dungeon prison and could in no way escape the wicked grasp of the iron bars.“I keep telling you; I have nothing to do with this. Don't you think I would have fled with her if I actually helped her escape?” “No, man. We caught you looking around like a suspect, so you were probably about to make your own way out, but you were unfortunate as you should be.”“Come on, Logan. I was also l
Freya felt horrified and her heart was beating really fast as she felt that she had finally fallen into Marie’s trap.“No, no.” Freya said as she shook her head slowly.“Is there anything wrong?” Marie asked as she moved closer to her, then she poured her a glass of water. “Have this.” Marie offered her kindly. But Freya looked at her awkwardly especially as she noticed that she was no longer feeling pain in her stomach.“What just happened?” Freya asked, but her eyes were roaming around the floor as she was trying to understand what truly happened.“How? Did something wrong happen?” Marie asked Freya again. But Freya who had realized that she wasn't poisoned, but probably because she felt she could, a little pain from her stomach caused her to overreact.“No, never mind. The food is delicious.” Freya said and smiled.Since the food was without poison, she immediately gobbled it up due to how delicious it was and she kept nodding her head in approval of it's delicacy while eating. Mar
Freya got down from the bed, feeling frustrated and so much wanted to blame her wolf, but she realized that it wasn't her fault either. It was expected of her to rest since they still had a few hours until midnight, and who knew if Marie spent the whole night watching TV.Just then, a knock came on her door and she became very cautious and at alert.“Who… who is it?” Freya inquired, looking scared.“It's me, . Kindly open the door, please.” Marie urged and Freya felt more terrified. She wasn't certain if Marie had decided to choose today to kill her or not or what could even behold of her at the door.“Uhm… give me a minute.” Freya said and began to pace around, trying to buy herself time. She went ahead to the window and opened it to see if it was going to be possible for her to jump down and run far for now, but it was too high.Marie knocked again and Freya's heart almost jumped out of her mouth.“I think we have no choice than to open the door or she might get upset and I'm not su
Freya immediately got up on her feet and hurried close to the door, then opened the door slowly. It was a scary thing to do, but she still needed to find out what was going on. But as she stepped out of the room, the gunshot stopped and everywhere seemed quiet.Freya carefully walked down the stairs, looking around so as not to be shot by someone when she least expected it. As she got to the bottom of the stairs, she wandered around the living room and didn't see any sign of gunshots all over the place.“Marie?” Freya called out to her as she started walking towards the same hallway which had different rooms.“Why is that the first place you always wander of to, Freya?” Marie questioned all of a sudden from Freya's back.Freya turned to look at her sharply. She wanted to respond to her, but she knew somehow, she still had to act like she was in control sometimes.“That isn't the right question to ask, Marie. I heard gunshots and had to come looking for you, but to my surprise, there i
Freya stepped out of the bathroom after flushing even though she didn't use it, then she went out to the living room and sat before the food.“I would have served you in the dining room, but I want you to enjoy watching TV while eating this.” Marie said to her and Freya feigned a smile.“Oh, thanks a lot. That's a perfect decision.” Freya commended her and Marie smiled.“You're welcome.” She said and moved away.Freya looked at the door closely and took in a deep breath. She wasn't so sure if the food was okay and free of poison. Somehow, she has not been feeling hungry ever since she came to this realm, and maybe it's because it's a different realm. But thank goodness that she could do without food, so she felt that the best would be to throw it away regardless of how tempting it looked.“How do you think I can throw this away without her finding out?” Freya asked her wolf.“The best and safest way would be to dig up the ground to an extent and pour the food in there. That's going t
