Valentine jerked up and gasped. It was a dream. It was all a dream. Had her life been so miserable than she'd started dreaming of death?
She didn't want to die. At least not by hanging. Her eyes scanned her environment. The same old cell. The dark stinking place that reminded her of every wrong decision she took in life.
She looked just the way her mother had in the dream. Battered and dirty. She stood weakly and the chains dangled after her. Tears built up in her eyes. This wasn't the life she choose for herself.
It wasn't the life she was supposed to have. She hurt him. She ruined him. She made him sink deeper into his darkness. She had a choice and she choose the world over him. She destroyed the pieces of him she managed to gather.
'I, Valentine Fernando, hereby reject you as mate'. She remembered the words clearly.
'What makes you think I'd choose you over them? Who chooses insanity over sanity?'. Tears streamed down her cheeks as her defiant voice screamed in her head.
'I'm not yours, Eric. Tell your moon goddess she made a terrible mistake'.
She regretted it all. She regretted everything. She let her stubbornness ruin her. Now he was gone and she wasn't sure he was coming back. Earlier when fate turned her back on him, he'd retreated into the towers to hide his pain from the world. Now she'd hurt him, he had probably left for good.
"Please Eric...forgive me. Give me another chance to make things right" She sobbed holding to the bars. There was no one. Not a single soul outside her cell. She was hungry and weak. She couldn't even remember how she ended up there.
All she could think was how perfect her life would have been. How happy she was ten months ago. Then she heard heavy footsteps. All she could make out from the dark was the tall built figure advancing towards her cell.
As he got closer, her heart pounded. It couldn't be. It wasn't possible. Those fierce amber eyes that she once fell in love with. He stared at her while she trembled.
"E...Eric?" She stuttered but he kept staring with the same emotionless face he had when she first met him. Emotions and memories flashing between them as they stared at each other.
TEN MONTHS AGO
Valentine ran through the local market bumping and apologising to people. She knew exactly what she was doing. A grin settled on her lips as she made it home.
She emptied her pockets and clothes. Rings, bracelets, money, earrings and much more. This was going to make a big day for her tomorrow. The jewelries alone could cover her rent.
She checked the time and sighed. Her mother was yet to be back. She left by dawn and now it was almost dusk. Where the hell was she?
"I'm so hungry. She should have been back to make dinner. That woman, I wonder what mischief she's up to this time" She sighed.
She made it to the kitchen and prepared dinner. After setting the table, her mother was still yet to be back. She began to panic. This was highly unusual. Her mother would never stay out this late no matter how busy she was.
Grabbing her coat, she stepped out of the house to go in search of her. She didn't have to look far cause her mother came running to her.
"Mom?" Valentine called in surprise.
"Run, Val. Run!" Her mother yelled running towards her.
Run? Why did she have to run? Who was chasing them? That was when Valentin saw the fierce blue eyes. It wasn't one or two or three. Whatever was chasing them was huge. She took to her heels with her mother behind her.
Soon, she heard only her footsteps. She looked back but sure enough, her mother wasn't behind her. She stopped immediately.
"Mom?" She called but a growl responded behind her. She turned and nearly lost balance. It was a wolf. A huge one with scary blue eyes. She dashed further into the words with a pounding heart. She could hear it panting behind her.
She swerved to the right hoping to loose it but she was dead wrong. Another jump on her from the side, pinning her underneath it. She struggled to get it off but it wouldn't budge. She was scared. Very scared. Especially when it revealed it's teeth.
She heard more growls and in a flash, they were surrounded. The wolf got off her and she nearly peed in her pants.
"Seize her" It spoke and she almost passed out. It spoke! A wolf just spoke! This couldn't be happening. This wasn't the time for stupid hallucinations. She hadn't even seen its mouth move! Until one of them transformed and she fainted.
She woke up in a really dark place. It smelt pretty bad too. She tried standing but the dangling of chains drew her attention to where she was. She couldn't move her hands freely either.
"Val?" Her mother called and she quickly looked around. She could barely see a thing.
"Mom? Where are you?" Valentine asked. She felt a hand on her shoulder and quickly turned.
"Mom!" Valentine gasped and hugged her as tightly as the chains could permit her.
"I thought I lost you. Where are we? Why is it so dark here? And how did we get here?" She asked.
"The wolves brought us here. It's my fault, Val. I shouldn't have. I'm so sorry for dragging you into this" the woman sobbed but Valentine was yet to assimilate her words. Wolves? The talking ones? She thought she just was having another bad dream.
"Who are they? And why are we in chains?" Valentine asked.
"Werewolves" She replied.
"Were what? I thought they were myths? No, this is not happening. How did you even end up with them? What did you do mom?" She asked trying to make sense of everything.
"I kinda stole from their....Alpha".
Valentine couldn't believe her ears. Her mother did what?! How did she even meet their Alpha?
Her head was hurting already. She had to many questions.
"How? Who's their Alpha? How am I involved in this?".
Her mother was about to reply when the door opened. Before Valentine could blink, she was thrown over someone's shoulders and carried out of the cell.
"Let me go. Who are you? Let go of me" She yelled hitting him but he didn't budge. Outside, she realised she was the only one the took. Her mother was still in there. He pushed open a set of double doors and threw her in.
"Fuck you" Valentine spat as he shut the doors. Her whole body hurt. Her eyes scanned the room but it was empty. It was just a very big hall with lots of seats. She felt eyes on her but she couldn't tell whose. She didn't even see anyone.
"Hello?" She called and her voice echoed. No reply came. If they were going to keep her here, they should at least take off the chains. There were lots of goodies she could pocket. Like the gold statues lined on the high tables. Maybe even some of the big statues too.
Her hands itched to pick something but she couldn't shake off the feeling someone was watching her. Then her mother was thrown in as well. She was glad she wasn't facing it alone.
"Why are we here?" She asked.
"Shhhhh! He's here" Her mother whispered. She rolled her eyes.
"So what if he's here. I won't be punished for a crime, I know nothing about. He can hear all he wants" Valentine scoffed.
"Quiet, Val. We don't want to anger him."
"Then I'm angered as well. Those bunch of animals attacked me. They took me against ,y will. Isn't that punishable by their stupid law?" She raised her voice.
"Valentine!" Her mother scolded.
"No, mom. They're the ones to be in chains not me. I'm not the one who turns wild and attack people. Even the gold we steal in the local markets is worth more than whatever you might have stolen yet they don't keep us chained like dogs. Right, how could I have forgotten? We're in the midst of savages" She snorted.
"Enough!" A voice thundered and they shivered. Valentine knew there and then she had gone a little too far. Whatever punishment they deserved was double now.
Three years labour was certainly the last thing she expected. The king was certainly a nice man to hear her talk thrash about his people and still give them three years. She expected to be imprisoned for life or enslaved for at least twenty years. He had to be a nice person. They weren't even going to work in chains or sleep in that dark stinking place. They were given a room among the servants who were humans just like them. She was damn relieved her tongue didn't push them to their graves.Maybe he was trying to prove his people weren't as animalistic as she perceived. Whatever it was, she was happy she wasn't going to spend her life here. Just work for three years and She was free to go.Changing into the servant uniform, she stared at the isolated building several metres away from their quaters. She wondered why such a place would be abandoned. It was part of the palace, wasn't it?. A hand rested on her shoulder and she turned."Hello, I'm Freya" The freckled girl introduced stret
He was terrifying. She could barely breathe with those eyes on her. Worse, she didn't even get to take anything. She simply came here to die."P..please..." Valentine pleaded but the monster didn't look like he was ready to hear anything. All he was concerned about was the fact that she broke into his home to steal. Her eyes watered as he grabbed a handful of hair and pulled her up to get a proper look at her.Now she felt like she would melt under those eyes. She'd never met one as scary and emotionless as his. The chains rattled again and her eyes fell to his other hand. The chain was wrapped carefully round it.She trembled at the thought of having it wrapped round her. Why didn't she just listen to Freya?."P..please don't kill me...I'll never come back here, I swear...please" She sobbed but he shoved her face away and unwrapped the chains. She thought of running but he was on top of her. There was no way out."I'll do anything...don't kill me..please" She tried again, desperately
He was Alpha?Valentine couldn't believe it. She didn't want to believe it. She thought he was just a beast locked away in the tower. She had no idea he was allowed to move about. He had to be Alpha too.But this wasn't the man who passed judgement on them. While the King had been older with relaxed features that complemented his handsomeness, this man before her had a rough beauty with hardened features. He was wild. Unrefined. But he was dangerously attractive. While the king had a comforting aura, his screamed power and commanded submission."You forget little things easily, pet" He said and rage filled her.Pet again? That name made her so mad. It made her feel like a common dog. He had her chains with him and the thought upset her more."I'm not a pet. You can't treat me like an animal simply cause I sneaked into your tower" Valentine fired. His jaw tightened and she knew he was angry. His face was blank as usual but she was sure he was angry. She'd already broken two rules. He s
She woke up in pains. And in chains too. The monster had left her there after she passed out. He couldn't even bring her down. She struggled to break free but it only added to her pains. She stopped struggling and open her mouth to call him but the words got stuck in her throat as soon as she heard moans. She scoffed in anger and disbelief. He left her in chains to have sex.She was glad she didn't waste her voice on him. He'd simply ignore her and carry on like he didn't beat her to unconsciousness few hours ago. She continued trying to free herself but all efforts proved futile. She gave up with a frustrated sigh. She resigned to staring at the door hoping he would walk in any minute. He did come in but after several minutes. He was shirtless and her eyes trailed down his half tatted chest. She felt like reaching out to poke those abs. He would be sexy if he wasn't so terrifying."See what you like, pet?" He asks. She looked at him expecting to find a smirk but she got disappointed.
She woke up feeling sore. Her whole body hurt too. She heard laughter and forced her eyes open immediately. This wasn't Aldric's room."Your brother sure has taste. I like this one" She heard an unfamiliar voice. She looked at herself and felt her toes curl when she discovered he was naked."I know. This one's better than the others" She heard him say. The monster who'd drugged her. The man she assumed was nice. Better than Eric. He'd drugged her and raped her. Not just him but his friends too. Tears ran down her cheeks as she curled on the cold floor hugging herself tightly."You're right, bro. You think your brother will be mad we played with his pet?" Another asked. That made her feel more terrible."Of course not. I'm his brother" He said confidently. She knew he wasn't wrong. If Eric could treat her like an animal, he certainly wouldn't care how many men raped her. Tears continued to stream down. He called a guard."Take her. Do whatever you please, we're done with her" He said.
Someone yanked her off the window and she blinked rapidly. It was an imagination. She was still on the window contemplating on ending her life. There was no Eric. She scoffed immediately. She should have known it was too good to be true."What do you think you're doing?" Her saviour scolded. She turned to the maid. Valentine recognised her as one her roommates."Maya? What are you doing here? I thought the tower was forbidden" Valentine asked with surprise."It is. Alpha Eric sent me here to get his collar before you get your flesh all over it. He said I could give you a push after that" Maya answered.Valentine couldn't believe her ears. She quickly looked out the window and those fierce eyes were staring back.A cruel reality of her imagination. What even made her imagine that Eric would care?."Are you jumping or not?" Maya asked impatiently. It seemed everyone in her world was just eager to get rid of her. She took off the collar and handed it to her. She waited for Maya to leave
She woke up feeling pains all over her face. She slowly sat up and tried lifting her hands but the pain was unbearable. She took a look around. She was in their room. The servants quarters. Not even a clinic or anything."Thank goodness you're awake. Sir Eric demands your presence. You're already three hours late so please hurry up. I don't want him......""Can you just shut up, Maya? She just woke up and all you can think is Eric. If you're so bent on pleasing him, why don't you go ahead and marry him?" Freya snapped."He's going to punish her anyway" She huffed and sat on her bed. Another servant came to sit beside Val."How're you feeling?" She asked."My face hurts. A lot"."It'd hurt more if you don't meet Eric now" Maya stated.Valentine slowly climbed off the bed. She'd already had enough for the day. She didn't want Eric's trouble as well."You can't go like this. I can go tell him you're sick" Freya offered."Like he would care. I'd advise you run, sweetheart" Maya chipped."
The door was kicked open immediately and he released her. She fell to the floor gasping for breath."Don't come close to me. Stay away, All of you" He barked and she looked up to see who he was talking to.Several doctors dressed in white trooped in. The royal family were behind them."I said stay away. I'm not crazy. I'm fine. Do I sound crazy?" He yelled and she crawled away from him. Someone helped her up.It was a royal and she had a slight resemblance with Eric. Maybe his sister. She released the others while the doctors covered her.The doctors tried to hold him but he scooped the pieces of glass from the floor and threw it at them.Valentine was more worried about his bleeding hands and feet. He stepped on the pieces of glass like they were nothing."Your highness I beg you to leave. We will take it from here" One of the doctors said."Are you sure?" The King asked worriedly."Absolutely".Valentine didn't want to leave him. Not like this."I'm not crazy. I just want to be alon
"Valentine".She opened her eyes tiredly and stared at the figure leaning over her."You didn't take your medicine," Maya said. Valentine gave a weak sigh and sat up. She felt a lot stronger now."Gyai was taking too long so I slept off. I will take them later" Valentine said."You shouldn't joke with these medicines, Val. This sickness of yours is becoming alarming" Maya said worriedly. Valentine smiled weakly."Aside from that, what else is bothering you?"."Huh?" Maya's expression gave away her surprise. Valentine chuckled."You don't expect me to believe that my ailment is the reason you're this worried".Maya bit her lip, contemplating whether to tell Valentine or not. She didn't want anything to make Valentine worse than she already was."Now I'm convinced something is wrong. Did something happen?" Valentine asked."A lot happened," Maya said quietly. That piqued Valentine's interest. She knew whatever happened was big."You see…I don't think now is the best time to give you suc
Zalina leaned against the balcony enjoying the morning breeze. The recent happenings in the palace barely bothered her. In her opinion, they deserved whatever was happening to them if not worse. They couldn't keep her against her will, deny her access to her daughter, and expect to have peace. More was coming to them and she was going to enjoy every bit of it.Her eyes caught a familiar figure walking past her. Her eyes widened in realization. It was the girl. The same girl who came to inform her about her daughter's condition."Hey...give me a minute..." She yelled running downstairs. Freya stopped, wondering what the woman wanted from her. Zalina came running to her while she waited."It was you...." Zalina blurted breathlessly. It took Freya a few seconds to recognize her."Ma'am Zalina?" Freya called in surprise. Zalina nodded, trying to steady her breathing."But how.....what happened...." Freya voiced curiously."It's a long story. I just want you to do me this little favor". Ma
It was a great feeling. A very familiar feeling. One he hadn't felt in a very long time. Happiness. Silver was happy. He was happy.Like they say, good things don't last forever. As soon as Eric entered his chambers, the little bliss was gone. It was replaced by a familiar pang in his chest."Lana?" He whispered as he walked in slowly. The whole room was filled with her scent. Alana smelt of lavender and faintly roses cause she had a garden full of them. Why would the room suddenly smell like her? His heart was breaking all over again. It got stronger as he walked further into the room. Before he could recover, he stepped on something. He retraced his step and glanced down at the shiny object. He bent over and picked it only to get another heartbreak. His wedding ring.Sliver whimpered as Eric broke down."Why are you doing this to me? Why?!" He yelled, throwing the ring against the window."Why?!" He yelled again, sinking to his knees. He couldn't understand anything. He couldn't und
Kimberly rushed into Alisa's room breathlessly. Alisa looked up from her book to study the panting girl."Y-You w-won't b-believe what I-I saw," Kimberly panted."A dinosaur?" Alisa suggested and Kimberly glared. After steadying her breathing, she replied, "He's in Alana's studio"."So....?" Alisa raised a brow, finding nothing surprising about it."With Valentine. I saw them playing together" Kimberly informed and Alisa chuckled."Now that's a very funny tale.""I'm not making it up, he was really there. They were there, playing with paint like lovers. I had to pinch myself thrice to make sure it was real" Kimberly insisted."I'm sorry but I don't believe you. My brother would never let anyone other than Alana in there. You can't just show up and blab about things like that" Alisa frowned, returning her attention to her book."Are you doing this because you think it's a lie or because you really want it to be true?" Kimberly asked and Alisa looked up again."What is that supposed to
Valentine laughed heartily as she watched him fumble with her hair."Why do you keep laughing?. It's hard to braid" He sighed. She chuckled and picked her hair band. She tied her hair in a pony tail and stood."Sit and watch" She said and he sat. She picked the comb and reached for his hair but he pulled away."You said watch" He frowned."There's no one to practise on so stop complaining and turn. You can watch from the mirror" She said. He hesitated for some minutes before relaxing. She slid the comb in, dividing his hair into equal halves. She started braiding while he stared at the mirror blankly."Lower your head a little" She said."Why? I didn't ask you to lower yours" He said and she groaned."That's because you can't braid, idiot. Now lower your head before I smack you". Grabbing her hand, he flipped her over and she landed on his laps. Her heart raced as she stared at him. Sure enough, he was looking at her with furrowed brows."W-what a-are you d-doing?" She stuttered. His
After Eric was properly attended to by the doctors, Iyaki went in search of Marcie. Using her scent, he successfully trailed her to the courtyard, where she stood trying to recover from the attack."Marcie" He called and her head snapped to him. She watched the Elder approach her with a stoic expression. As the head elder, it was almost impossible to sense his emotions."What do you want, Yaki? I deeply appreciate your help back there but...""What did you do to him?" Iyaki interrupted. Her blood ran cold."W-What a-are are you talking about?" She tried feigning ignorance. The elder glared at her."Why was he talking about rogues and chains and torture? You said you could help him get over his grief now I want to know how exactly you went about it" Iyaki stated. Her throat went dry. Thousands of explanations and excuses roamed her mind, but when she opened her mouth to speak, nothing came out. Words seemed to have deserted her. She stood like a fool, tongue-tied."Answer me" He snappe
Eric pondered on Iyaki's words. He never planned to lock Silver for long. He just wanted a brief moment of silence.Silence.That was all he craved for the past seven years. He wanted his head free from all the voices, the cries, the judgment, the agony. Silence. That was all he wanted. After he sent Valentine away, Silver wouldn't stop whimpering. His wolf was restless. He couldn't pretend to be oblivious to Silver's needs. But the wolf was being selfish. He was asking for too much.Eric could only want one person. Alana. Silver couldn't understand that. Alana was his life. His love. His soul. His fucking sanity. Without her, he was lost. Without her, he was nothing. Without her, his breath was a punishment. He didn't know what to do with Valentine. He didn't know what to want from her. She was too different from what he needed. Too different from what he craved. Too different from Alana.Yet he couldn't deny she was some form of escape. With her, he didn't have to feel alone. His wo
Iyaki, the head elder was seated across the table, waiting for Eric to show up. He was on the verge of losing his patience when the door opened and Eric walked in.He couldn't help but notice the change in the air surrounding him. He stared at Eric for a while trying to figure out the sudden change. There was this negative energy coming from him and Iyaki was more concerned about that than the issue at hand.He stared into the cold eyes of the young Alpha. Stretching his eyes and mind further, he could feel pain, hate, anger, sadness, loneliness, fear, and every other negative emotion you could think of.Iyaki reached for his wolf but Silver, Eric's wolf, was silent. Dead silent. He tried reaching for the wolf again but he couldn't. It seemed Silver had been shut out. He could barely feel him.Iyaki's eyes flickered to those amber eyes again with a sigh of frustration. He couldn't find the actual source. Of course, the dead Luna was part of it but there was something else. Something t
Kimberly woke up in an unusually good mood. She slipped into her bedroom slippers while her maids took off her robe and replaced it with a pink bathing robe. She smiled as she made it to the bathroom. The Jasmine scent made her smile wider. The tub was built like a pool. She slid her feet a little into the water to test the temperature."Perfect" She smiled and the maids slid the robe off her. She gracefully got into the water and shut her eyes, savoring the pleasure. After settling in, she took her time to have her bath. After the bath which lasted for nearly an hour, she stepped out and was towel-dried by the maids. Another towel was wrapped around her hair. Her slippers were placed before her and she slipped her foot in.She walked into the next room where all her cosmetics lay. She took a stroll around the room, scanning through the shelves. When she finally found the cream that matched her jasmine fragrance, she pulled it out.She settled by the vanity and let the maids do their
