It was dawn and the sun’s ray casted long shadows across the ancient books scattered on the table. Rachel sat among them with her hands moving methodically as she flipped through pages and her brow was furrowed in concentration. The weight of the pack’s survival, of Gilly’s fate, and of Zone’s worsening condition, seemed to press down on all of us, but Rachel carried it with quiet determination.

I stood near the door, pacing as I waited for her to find something—anything—that could guide us.

“How much longer?” I asked, trying to keep the impatience from my voice.

Rachel didn’t look up. “As long as it takes,” she said. “These books are ancient. If there’s an answer, it’s buried deep.”

I sighed, turning to look out the window. Derek’s pack had grown quiet since the confrontation during the council meeting, but the silence wasn’t peaceful. It was heavy, unea

The air around us sparkled for a brief moment before settling into the damp, oppressive atmosphere of the swamp. Ardan and I staggered as our surroundings materialised in front of us: a vast expanse of muddy water, twisted trees, and a blanket of fog that shrouded our vision. The teleportation spell had brought us to the right place, but something felt wrong.Ardan ran a hand through his hair, trying to summon the magic that had served him so well before, but nothing came. His focus faltered, and he cursed under his breath."What is it?" I asked, sensing the shift in his mood."My magic…" Ardan began, looking around in confusion. "It’s not working here. I can’t feel the flow of energy."My brow furrowed. "But… we’re here, Ardan. The swamp. This is where the flower should be. I’m sure your magic will come back when we—"Ardan’s eyes were sharp, scanning the surrounding fog. "It’s not just that.

Ardan’s PoVI was ten years old, running through the woods with my best friend, Ren. Ren and I were inseparable, always finding excuses to sneak away from our lessons and explore the forest that bordered our pack’s land. That day, we’d wandered farther than usual, chasing the echo of a distant waterfall. The sound was faint, teasing us with its mystery, and Ren was determined to find it.“Come on, Ardan!” he called with his grin wide as he darted ahead.“Slow down, Ren,” I shouted, laughing as I tried to keep up.We were so caught up in the thrill of the chase that we didn’t notice the stillness creeping into the air. The birds stopped singing, the rustle of leaves quieted, and the usual hum of the forest faded into an eerie silence. It wasn’t until Ren screamed that I realised something was wrong.I came to a stop with my laughter dying in my throat as I turned to see him frozen in place and his eyes wide with terror. At first, I didn’t understand what he was looking at—then I saw it

  • Mate? Or Die!   Chapter 136 FRAGILE RECOVERY

Serena’s POVThe palace halls were quiet when we arrived and the weight of our mission was still hanging over us. The antidote, carefully wrapped in protective leaves, felt like the most precious cargo I’d ever carried.Rachel led the way to the medical wing, where Zone lay pale and motionless. His breathing was shallow, his chest barely rising with each breath. My heart clenched at the sight of him. He’d always been so strong, so unyielding, and seeing him like this felt like a blow to the gut.“We need to act fast,” Rachel said with her voice clipped as she began preparing the antidote.Ardan stood beside her with his jaw tight as he watched her every move. “How long before we know if it works?” he asked.Rachel didn’t answer immediately, her focus on carefully grinding the petals into a paste. “It depends,” she said finally. “If the poison hasn’t spread too far, we should see improvement within a few hours. If it has…” She trailed off, not needing to finish the thought.I swallowed

Gilly’s POVThe world around me was nothing but darkness, an endless expanse of shadows that stretched in every direction. Time didn’t exist here, nor did sound or sensation. I floated in the emptiness, a weightless figure adrift in an ocean of nothingness.I didn’t know how I’d gotten here, but I knew one thing: I was trapped. At first, I thought this was death—a bleak and silent afterlife where my thoughts were my only companions. But I still felt the faintest pull of something beyond this void. It was like a tether, thin and fragile, connecting me to something—or someone.“Serena.“Her name flickered in my mind, a faint light in the darkness. Memories of her surged forward unbidden: her fierce determination, her unyielding loyalty, the way she had fought for all of us, even when the odds were stacked against her.I tried to call out to her, but my voice didn’t carry. The void swallowed every word before it could form. The shadows shifted. Slowly at first, then faster, swirling arou

Serena’s POVThe forest air was thick with the scent of damp earth and rotting leaves, a reminder of how far we were from any place of comfort or safety. The sun had long since disappeared behind a thick canopy of twisted branches, leaving only faint shafts of light to guide our way.My senses were sharper than ever. Every shift in the wind, every crack of a branch, every faint scent carried on the air seemed amplified, as though the forest itself was whispering to me.“She’s close,” I said with my voice steady but low.Zone tightened his grip on his weapon and his jaw clenched. “I hope so,” he muttered. “I’m tired of chasing shadows.”Ardan placed a reassuring hand on Zone’s shoulder with his steady presence a calming force. “If Serena says she’s close, she is,” he said simply.I nodded as my Wolf mother instincts guided me. This power was still new, its limits and purpose unclear, but I trusted it.“She’s been here for a while,” I said as my eyes scanned the forest. “There’s magic e

  • Mate? Or Die!   Chapter 139 THE BREAKING POINT

THE BREAKING POINTThe air in the library was suffocating and I all I could smell were the old books Rachel had managed to source. Rachel and I had spent hours combing through every tome, scroll, and scrap of parchment we could find, searching for something—anything—that might help wake Gilly from her coma.“Anything yet?” I asked tiredly.Rachel didn’t look up, her fingers just kept flipping through the brittle pages of an ancient book. “Nothing,” she muttered with her frustration evident.I sighed, leaning back in my chair and rubbing my temples. The silence of the library, which was usually comforting, now felt oppressive.“Keep looking,” I said, though my words felt hollow.Rachel glanced at me with her face pale and drawn. “Serena, we’ve been at this for hours. If there was something here, we would have found it by now.”“We can’t stop,” I said firmly. “There has to be an answer.”Rachel hesitated before nodding, though I could see the doubt in her eyes. The sound of something cr

  • Mate? Or Die!   Chapter 140 THE FINAL DECISION

The council chamber was silent as I stood before them with my heart heavy but resolute. Members of Derek’s pack sat in a semicircle with their eyes filled with worry and confusion. Tobias was beside me and his brow furrowed as he glanced my way. He didn’t know what I was about to say, but I had no doubt he suspected it wasn’t good.I took a deep breath, letting the weight of my decision settle over me. “Thank you all for coming,” I began with my voice steady despite the turmoil inside me.The wolves murmured quietly, their unease was palpable.“I’ve come to a decision,” I continued, looking out over the gathered wolves. “The witches are targeting this pack because of me. Every attack, every loss—it's all because I’m here. They won’t stop until they get what they want.”Tobias shifted uncomfortably, but I pressed on before he could interrupt.“I can’t allow more innocent lives to be lost because of me,” I said with my voice growing firmer. “That’s why I’ve decided to leave. Ardan’s hand was steady in mine with his warmth grounding me as I prepared to dive back into Gilly’s mind. Sally felt uneasy and her instincts warned me of the dangers ahead, but I pushed the fear aside.“You’re sure about this?” I asked Ardan, glancing up at him.He nodded, determined that what we were about to do would work. “If siphoning my strength will give you what you need to face the witches, then do it. You’ve already risked so much, Serena. Let me help you.”I swallowed hard as my grip tightened on his hand. “If this doesn’t work—”“It will,” he said firmly. “We’re in this together.”Rachel stood nearby with her brows furrowed with worry. “Be careful,” she said. “Whatever happens, don’t push yourself too far. We can’t afford to lose either of you.”I nodded, closing my eyes and focusing on the bond between Ardan and me. It was like reaching into a river of energy, his strength flowing into me in a steady, powerful current. The world around me faded, and I was back in the dar

Evelyn’s PoVOur kiss had transformed into something more. One thing led to the other until I found him on top of me, on the bare ground and completely naked.“Do you want me?” Marcus grinned. He could tell I couldn’t resist him.“No.” I joked but Marcus could tell it was all a lie. I tried to let myself out of his grip jokingly but he pinned me down to the ground gently.“You’re mine, Evelyn. I love you.” He whispered into my ears.“I love you too, Marcus.” I whispered scared that I was going to give him all of me. I mean I wanted to but then again… my mum.“Can I?” He asked politely.“Uh-huh.” I whispered, nodding my head.He went in and at first it was painful but after the first few thrusts, I was having the best time of my life.“Is this your first?” I asked. Marcus hesitated to answer and I laughed.“You’re like seven years older than me of course you have.” I said as I moaned in between. “You’re so good.” I moaned.“I could say the same about you.” Marcus grinned, breathing hea

Author PoVCouncil room tension remained strong and difficult to breathe. The golden flames in Serena's eyes made her tighten her fists when she turned against Rachel and Ardan."You failed to defend my daughter when they sentenced her." Her voice broke in two from feeling betrayed when she spoke. She was really angry as she confronted Rachel and Ardan through her words. The pain of her loss made Rachel's face immobile. "She took Zone's life," she spoke plainly to them. “The damage she caused doesn't matter if it happened by accident. He’s dead because of her.”Serena’s breath hitched. She repeated her defence by saying it was not Evelyn's responsibility. “She wasn’t in control. You should recognise how Gloria influenced her. Evelyn would never—""Would never?" Rachel scoffed. “She already did.”Ardan interrupted with his measured tone before Serena could respond. He studied her showing deep emotions Serena could not recognise. “The moment Caden exiled me you stood by silently. And I

  • Mate? Or Die!   Chapter 228 EVELYN’s EXILE

Author PoVJosephine had to be patient, as she knew that the truth, when used effectively, could cut deeper than claws or teeth. She had spent weeks spying on him, biding her time for the right moment to act. When she came upon Isiah alone, she drew closer with an air of casual interest, getting into some small talk about the current tensions in the pack. It wasn’t much to get him to let his guard down—he had always loved a good conversation. He hesitated the moment she mentioned Zone, but Josephine prompted him to continue, managing to play along with some sympathy. She had assured him that once the truth would set free, it would give all relief to those who needed it. Then he finally broke the silence she had been wishing for when he told that, during the battle, Evelyn had been the one who had killed Zone. It hadn’t been with intent, but still, it was true.Josephine felt no surprise. She had had her suspicions since Luca mentioned it to her. The moment she left Isiah, she made her

  • Mate? Or Die!   Chapter 227 A PROPHECY REVISITED

Evelyn’s PoVFor the last few weeks, both physically and emotionally, it had been an exhausting experience. The burden of my powers, my past, and that how much the pack disbelieved me weighed heavy on my shoulders. To this day, walking through that pack was no easy feat. I could feel the whispers, sideways glances, the fear unspoken. Nothing I could do seemed to work—I was somehow stuck with wounds too deep to heal.My mother, of course, had always picked up on it. She noticed everything. One evening, after the patrols had returned and the pack settled in for the night, she summoned me to her room. The way she had set herself at the wooden table, hands folded tightly, made me realise she must have something serious to talk by all means. Maybe Rachel had told someone about the truth of Zone’s death."Sit," she said gently, indicating the chair opposite her with her head.I did as I was told, and I could feel the air swell into some heavy tension that we both couldn't vocalise."You've

  • Mate? Or Die!   Chapter 226 A TRUTH REVEALED

Author’s PoVJosephine waited while ever so patiently inserting her influence. She made sure that the pack was thoroughly prepared to follow her very soon. Little by little, a few calls here and there with the pack elders, appearance as the concerned mother in moments that would demand it, a strategically placed comment, this was how she slowly began to undermine Serena's standing. The birth of Dorian changed everything. He was Ardan's son; he was the legitimate heir. And Josephine saw to it that all in the pack understood it that way.Everything was being calculated.Josephine was at the centre of every pack gathering, dispensing advice as if that had always been her lot with the pack leaders. She reminded them how strong the pack had to be and how they could not afford to trust anyone compromised by dark magic. And when she was certain the time was right, she made her boldest move yet and questioned whether Evelyn had earned her place in the pack. This was during a pack meeting call

  • Mate? Or Die!   Chapter 225 JOSEPHINE’s NEWBORN

Ardan’s PoVTwo months later….A newborn screamed loudly in the room; disturbing silence everywhere it spread. Josephine lay on the bed, worn out though there was clearly a hidden shine of victory hidden in the background. She rocked the small bundle wrapped in rags and whispered reassuring words. My son.I swallowed hard.A son. My blood. My pride.I did not know what to feel.I stood stupefied, watching. It was as though an iron chain dropped onto my shoulder, and as much as I wished to deny it, this little one would turn my world upside down.Josephine looked at me. "Do you want to hold him?"I hesitated. My hands felt too big, too rough. But just as I was about to respond, she reached forward and carefully placed the newborn in my arms. His size surprised me. A soft ball up in little fists, the baby opened and clenched its eyes, squirming in discomfort before sleeping soundly. A son. I'd never thought I'd ever have one, I thought I’d never get to have my own blood yet here he lay,

Evelyn PoVI stayed seated on top of the wooden training grounds fence while I watched the fighters below lock together in combat. Weakness dragged down my body until it felt like an invisible burden I had to carry. I had abused my powers beyond what was safe since I could not stop myself.I needed to show my worth to my mother as well as Ardan and Luca and each member of the pack.Even though everything pointed at me badly the accusations persisted through the air like an intense burden.“She’s cursed."“She’s dangerous."The pack members even believed I should have died during the tragedy with Gloria.I clenched my fists.Taken back by a familiar tone I turned to see who spoke behind me.“You’re wearing yourself out.”Standing before me was Marcus who watched me with concern while crossing his arms. After studying me carefully with his dark eyes he kept looking at me but I stared elsewhere.“I can handle it.” I muttered.Marcus jumped after me as he joined me on top of the fence. “Y

  • Mate? Or Die!   Chapter 223 THEIR APPROVAL

Authors PoVAs Serena stood at the centre of the war room, the morning air was very cool. Maps were spread out on the wooden table before her. The tension in the room was thick, filled with murmurs of worry as the pack elders and warriors kept gathering. The scout conveyed disturbing intelligence indicating that a new pack under an unknown leader was regrouping. Where they had come from no one knew, but they were fast growing and did pose a direct danger to the very tenuous peace they were trying to establish.Serena exhaled as she looked from face to face around the room, many battle-worn and weary of the endless blood-shedding and survival. Their morale was low, and she realised that it was perhaps justified."We should be prepared," Serena said firmly, scanning the faces around the room. "Whatever their intentions, we can't afford to be taken unaware."There were some murmurs of agreement, but Serena could see doubt in their eyes. Some of them had already lost far too much.At the
