CHAPTER 3

Yes, I replied.

What about your parents? He said.

They are fine. I replied.

Endrick also asked if I was living alone or with my parents and I replied no.

I had just moved out just recently to find greener pastures and make a living, so I am currently alone.

Oh!

Sorry about that, he commented.

 It is nothing. I replied.

I asked him about his marital status also, and he responded by saying he was single at the moment.

Looks like we had got no partner I thought. After all the chatting, we left and he decided to drop me at my house, but I declined.

He persuaded me, but I later accepted his request. He asked for my number, which I gave him. I also asked for his own and he did not hesitate to give me it. I bid him goodbye as he set off in his car.

It looked like the relationship between me and Endrick had started clicking again. Who knows what our fate could be, I silently said to myself as I smiled.

The next day, I woke up just to see that I missed Endrick's call on my phone.

I was surprised.

Why is he calling me this early?

So I decided to call him back.

He picked him up within a few seconds and I asked why he had called.

He, however, responded saying he just wanted to check on my wellbeing, but I thought we met yesterday, I said.

I know he replied, “Can't I ask about your well-being?"

 He added.

"I was curious to know where things are heading between me and Endrick”.

The unique and extraordinary way that we met is still a surprise to me.

We just met a day ago and everything was clicking not so long.

 He ended the call.

I smiled as I tumbled on my bed.

Three days passed, and all I could think of was Endrick and the result of the interview I went for in his father's company.

Did I even tell him about the position I applied for?

 'No' I exclaimed.

So how would he even help without knowing that I applied to be a receptionist in his father's company?

 My mood changed instantly.

I didn't even know what the outcome of the interview would be.

Should I call him?

I thought, but my inner mind said no, that I should wait and see what Endrick could do. At exactly 10:30 am, the third day after the interview, I saw an email from Champion company.

 That's Endrick's father's company.

I have been given the job of being a receptionist and that I should report to the company the following day.

I was happy, my face was blooming with a smile, and it was as if I just had a life-changing chance to work in one of the top companies in the capital city.

However, I did not forget to give Endrick a call to thank him for the kindness and help he showed me in securing a job at his company, and his response was captivating.

I asked him how he was able to secure me the job without knowing the post I applied for, and he just said he searched for my name on their employment website, and he knew the type of job I was applying for.

I also did not hesitate to notify him, smiling all along, that this was a chance for him to often see him, and he was happy to hear that from me. Although the past that I had with Endrick wanted to prevail over my emotions, I tried my best to put my worries to rest. I also called my parents to inform them of the job I got, and they were happy for me, but I did not give them a hint that I was working at one of my college mate's father's companies.

I was happy throughout the day. I prepared all I needed for the new work, ironed most of my clothes, ate, and slept to report to the company early in the morning.

The following day, I arrived among all the other new workers. We were told the principles and ethics of our job and how they run things in the company. I tried my best as much as possible to register all that they said in my brain.

I was shown to the receptionist manager, who took me to the reception where I would work as one of the receptionists of the company. Her reaction towards me was not friendly at all, to the extent that I began to wonder how I would cope with her being my manager.

At Champion, the work of a receptionist is a tough task to do, simply because they have a lot of clients who work or want to partner with them. So I had in mind to put more effort into what I would be doing there.

I started work sooner than expected, and I can say the job is a very tough one for me.

After completing my shift, I decided to go and check on Endrick in his office, but on getting there, I heard someone's voice shouting and yelling at Endrick.

Oh, it was Endrick's dad. He was shouting at Endrick, telling him how he inherited the company with his nonchalant attitude.

He further said that his probability of becoming the company's future heir would end only if he didn't step up and get married on time. He told him to find a woman he would marry so that he could make himself responsible and serious about business management and life in general before his dad could finish talking.

I knew that was not the right moment to speak with Endrick, so I left his door as soon as possible so that it wouldn't be that I was eavesdropping on their conversation. I wondered how Endrick's dad would be pressuring him to get married, contrary to what Endrick was ready for.

I wondered if Endrick would obey his dad's words for him to get married. All these thoughts ran through my mind as I went home.

I had a very stressful day. Nevertheless, I decided to call Endrick, but he did not pick up his call. I wondered how he was doing and about his whereabouts, but all efforts to get through to him were in vain.

I even tried texting him, but he did not reply.
