North did not hesitate as she went before Abraham while everyone watched. “Mr. Abraham.”

Instantly, Gerald’s jaw clenched.

Abraham chuckled and smoothly took North’s bag. “Was traffic bad?”

North carded her fingers through her hair. “Yes, that’s why I’m a bit late. Did I hold you up?”

Connor gulped. Since when had North and Abraham gotten so close?

He looked at Gerald’s expression cautiously, but he did not see anything amiss.

The only clue was Gerald’s eyes. They held a storm in them as Gerald clenched his fists. It looked like he was doing his best to endure this.

Abraham nodded slightly. “Gerald, the banquet has started. Let’s go inside together.”

North occasionally looked up and said something to Abraham. Listening to her, he would nod gently.

It looked like they were the married couple here. They seemed like the perfect match.

Gerald felt a pang in his heart, and it was like there was something lodged in his throat. Even breathing felt painful.
