Why did both women who liked Gerald call him Gerry? Did they really think that would work?

The middle-aged woman chastised Cynthia. “What are you so shy about? Gerald is your family!”

Next, she said to Gerald, “Cynthia blushes easily. She’s still young and naive. Once she returns with you, you have to take good care of her. Otherwise, some people would surely plan to pick on her!”

Cynthia took a careful glance at North. Then, she bit her lip and hid behind the middle-aged woman.

North nearly laughed at this.

She had not even said a word after coming inside. Yet, these people had mocked her both openly and subtly many times over. Did they think she was a doormat to be walked over?

North folded her arms before herself. “Gerald hasn’t agreed yet. Why are you in such a rush to send Ms. Bracken off to be his ‘assistant’?”

Cynthia’s face went white in an instant. Her eyes turned red, and she looked as though she had just been terribly offended.

The middle-aged man was pained by this
