44. The Heartbreaking Break-Up

Charlotte’s POV

"I understand, but I..." I paused and gulped. "I'm in love with you!" I said after a moment of trying not to cry in front of him.

He didn't say anything in response to what I just said. Instead, he looked right into my eyes. He sighed deeply and said, "Charlotte, I can't go up against you and your father. I tried, but it didn't work. The organization gives the favor to him and not to me. I'm sorry, Charlotte."
