4. Take Me With You

Santiago’s POV

From head to toe, she stares at me in terror; she has lost every emotion, including her grin. As I tried to carry her body out of that area, her whole body was shaking with fear. I couldn't take my eyes off of her, and I knew I couldn't keep her for myself. I can't bring her into the Mafia world and put her life in danger all over again.

I asked, “Where do you live? I can take you there.”

She shook her head while crying, “Please take me with you. I’m scared….”

I quickly looked at her, and she was determined to go with me. I sighed softly and drove her to the lake house. It took us two hours to get there, and when I looked at her, she was already asleep.

I gently tapped her face and said, “Come with me.”

As soon as her eyes blinked open, I pulled her away and said, "Let's go."

She took a look around. Her eyes were no longer scared; she looked so calm now. We walked outside together, and she held my arm. I punched in my code, and the native-wood door swung open.
