Lincoln Residence
8 pm
It was a place where just nobody couldn't come to, except those who carried the surname Lincoln. But it was an exception for Avery Knight. Though she didn't carry that surname, she could come here as long as she wanted to.
Avery Knight put all the bags on the sofa and then looked at the gigantic wall clock hanging on the wall. She smiled and mumbled, "Liam must have come back from his business trip. How about I give him a surprise?"
It has been more than three months since she last saw him. She was so crazy dying to see her husband. After all, she loved him the most. Liam and Avery were married for two years, though they were not the perfect couple but they were happy. At least that's what she thought.
She turned around, her smile faded. Avery looked down and uttered. "Mom."
"You are the Lincoln family's daughter-in-law. Look how you are walking." The middle aged woman's voice sounded harsh. Well, Avery didn't mind. She got used to her mother-in-law behaving that way with her. It was nothing new.
"Sorry, Mom. My apology, I should have looked ahead of me."
The middle aged woman was Wendy Lincoln, Liam Lincoln's mother. Wendy took a seat on the sofa then she looked at Avery from her head to toe.
Avery was like any other average woman. No make-up, no expensive clothes on her, no model-thin figure, nothing that could prove that she was Lincoln family's daughter-in-law. Well, she never liked her anyways. She just didn't understand why the hell her son married such a woman like Avery in the first place.
Avery looked upstairs excitedly with a smile then at Wendy. She walked towards the stairs. "Mom, I will be back soon."
Wendy quickly held her hand. It was quite a hard grip that Avery felt pain.
"Mom…"
"Where are you going?"
"I… I want to see Liam. He must be back from his business trip." She with a pure smile playing on her lips said so.
Wendy looked annoyed and asserted, "Who told you he is back?"
"I saw his car outside." She answered.
For a moment of period Wendy stood silent and so did Avery. Then just as Avery walked forward Wendy stopped her again.
"He is taking a rest. You should not disturb him now."
"I won't disturb him. I will just see him from afar and leave."
"I said no."
Avery never went against her mother-in-law. She respected her no matter how badly she had been treated. Wendy never left a chance to scold her no matter what she did and what not but being a motherless girl she always took Wendy as her mother so she never cared if she got even insulted.
"Make me a coffee. I am having headaches."
"I… fine, mom."
Avery walked to the kitchen. Some tears were forming in her eyes. She had been holding it on but everytime she ended up shedding tears. Everytime she wanted to go to Liam, Wendy kept coming between them by many means. Since Liam never objected, being his wife Avery didn't either.
'It's ok, I will get to see him soon since he is back. I just need to listen to mom and have patience.'
Making a coffee for Wendy, she was about to walk out of the kitchen when some whispers came to be heard from near.
"Did you see? He has brought a woman into his bedroom when his wife is at home. My god!"
"Yeah, I feel bad for Mrs. Lincoln. How will she feel when she finds out her husband is having sex with…"
"What are you guys talking about?"
Suddenly seeing Avery the servants ran away from there as if they saw a ghost. Seeing them disappear she didn't think much and left the kitchen.
"Mom, here's your coffee." Avery put the coffee cup on the table and smiled at her. Wendy always hated the way she smiled, why would she smile like a wh*re? That's what Wendy thought all the time.
Wendy gave her side eyes and took a sip in the coffee. Avery was looking at the upstairs, somehow she was feeling weird for some unknown reason. She didn't know why though.
"Aaaahhhhhh!" Avery cried out in pain as the hot coffee spilled on her face all of a sudden. The coffee cup was thrown on the floor, it broke into pieces. Avery felt pain on her face and looked at Wendy with tears in her eyes.
"You are this big and you can't even make a coffee! You wh*re! What can you do except seducing men!"
Avery nodded her head and said, "Mom, what are you saying? I never…"
"Do you think I don't know anything? Liam has told me everything I needed to know. You look so innocent but you are nothing but a f*cking wh*re!"
"Mom, what do you mean Liam…"
Suddenly Wendy slapped her across her face. Avery touched her face that felt like burning now and looked at her mother-in-law with sad teary eyes.
"Liam told me, you seduced him, that's why he couldn't do anything but had to marry you. You are so evil!"
"No, Mom. I don't believe it. Liam loves me, I never seduced him. He…"
Before she could finish Wendy grabbed her hair. "How dare you say that my boy lied huh? If not you are seducing him, why would someone like my son marry you? You came from a dustbin, the Knight family adopted you yet you left them in shame. Who knows who your parents are, if not because of you seducing him, do you think you could even get your feet in this mansion?"
Avery looked shocked. She knew Wendy hated her to the core that she could do anything, say anything but she couldn't believe that Liam would do it too. No matter what, she believed Wendy was making a story.
Nodding in denial Avery uttered, "I don't believe it. I know Liam, I trust my husband. He loves me and he can never say such bad words."
Avery was persistent but unlike every other day, when things didn't go outward today was somewhat different. Wendy smiled at her as if Avery was yet to learn the truth, "Since you want to keep acting, I will show you the proof."
And with those words Wendy threw some papers on her face. Avery held the papers with her hands and asked, "What is this?"
"Divorce papers. Since you don't believe it, why don't you take a look inside?"
Avery was confused about what she was saying. She looked at the papers and her hands trembled. She couldn't gulp what she just saw and looked at Wendy.
"Mom, this is not true right? It's not…"
"My son has already signed the papers. Now it's your turn. Sign it and get the f*ck out of my place!"
Avery nodded her head in denial and looked at the handwriting of her husband Liam. No way, she knew his handwriting very well.
"I want to see him. I want to see my husband."
"Stop calling him your husband. He is not your husband anymore. Don't you see he already signed the divorce papers?"
Avery didn't give her words. She just turned around to think. She needed time, she needed to get a solution. Seeing her turned around Wendy grabbed her hand with force, "Sign it!"
"No, never! I am sure he doesn't mean it."
"Is it so? Then what do you think it is…"
Avery quickly ran upstairs. Wendy was doing nothing but trying to separate her from Liam, she believed.
"Go, go. You will be very happy after a while." Wendy smirked while seeing her hated daughter-in-law walk upstairs.
'I will talk to him when he comes back, I know him. He can never say those things about… me…"
Avery halted on her way as she heard some noises coming from the opposite of her room. "It's Liam's room."
The sounds were not clear but she could tell that two people were talking and strange, she was having a weird feeling. Avery, on a slow pace, walked towards the door.
"Maybe he is really tired and… and…" she mumbled.
Standing outside the door she grabbed onto the knob with her thoughts in her mind. She gulped and just as she was about to pull the door she walked a step backward.
"Aahhh! Please don't tease me, Liam." A familiar voice came to be heard inside the room.
Avery couldn't believe her ears, how could she not recognise the voice of the person she always despised. She grabbed the doorknob and opened the door. Her eyes widened at the sight, she felt her whole world crashing down to her feet.
It was Liam. Liam Lincoln, her husband whom she loved for seven years straight. Whom she believed in more than anyone.
"Liam…" Avery asserted with utter disbelief while looking at Liam who was thrusting the woman laid under him.
Liam pulled the cover and said with emotionless eyes, "Ava."
Avery gulped, as if words got stuck in her throat. She stepped backward and the view was more than clear to her eyes now. She could finally understand everything little by little.
Many times, she heard that Liam Lincoln was actually in love with her sister, Jennifer Knight but not even for once, she believed that Liam would be such a person.
Growing up with her grandmother Avery never hated the fact that she was born poor, no matter what she never covered herself with heavy make-up, expensive clothes or ego while at the opposite, Jennifer had a rich vibe coming from her. Heavy make-up, expensive clothes, limited edition bags, shoes, Jennifer never used one thing twice. She would rather throw it or leave it in the store room.
Jennifer naked pulled the cover, wrapping it around herself. She held Liam's hand and voiced flirtatiously, "Babe, I am waiting." She stared at Avery with a devilish smile on her face that was telling Avery that 'I won against you'.
"Do you… Do you have any-anything to explain to me?"
Avery asked him, with a shaky voice. No matter what, if Liam would say it, she would trust him maybe but her disappointment came with his answer. "No."
"Is that why you want a divorce from me?"
"... Yes." His voice came to be heard clearly and profoundly. But as if she couldn't hear it clear or maybe she was hearing things. She took a step forward to ask him what he just said but…
Liam walked towards the door and right on her face he closed the door. Inside the room, came their moaning to be heard.
Was it going to end like this? Avery wiped off the tears that left her eyes. He was not the right man, she learnt it too late…
"Sign it!""I said I won't sign the divorce papers until he is here."Wendy looked angered but she didn't say anything. After all, soon the troublemaker was going to leave."Oh, here's my son. Now sign it!" Avery looked at Liam. He sat opposite of her on the sofa, followed by Jennifer on his left. Jennifer's hands were wrapped around his arms like a leech and Liam was also seated on the couch comfortably."Let me tell you, though you guys are getting divorced. You won't get even a single penny from my son nor any matrimonial alimony." Wendy asserted. "Ok.""You can never claim yourself as one of the Lincoln's again. So do not think after getting a divorce from him, you will still get to live here. The moment you…"Avery, not waiting for Wendy to finish, grabbed the pen. Her eyes never left Liam's as she signed her name on the papers. Liam for a minute looked disappointed, his facial expression changed but then it was not. Avery almost believed she saw him sad.Signing it, she stood
"They are gone now. You are safe." The man walked away from Avery, preparing to leave. As the room was dark she could not see his face, she could hear only his voice and feel his strong aura. "Thank… thank you, sir." She uttered. The effect of water was gone now, she didn't know what she drank but she felt like taking off her clothes. Avery looked around with her heavy head and muttered, "Thank you for saving me, sir. I… I will leave then…"The man remained silent and she stood up. Unknown to where she was going, suddenly she hit her head against a rock like hard chest. Avery extended her hand and put it on the man's chest. "Is that you? Sir.""You seem drunk, can you go back alone?" His voice was cold yet she felt he was considerate enough to help her.Avery nodded her head and smiled at him foolishly. "I… I think I can… "The man let out a sigh then holding her hand he took her towards the door. "This is the door, you can leave now."Avery about to leave felt hot, she couldn't help
Beep! Beep! With the sound of the alarm from her phone, she slightly moved on the bed searching for her phone with her hand.A slightly ruffled sound left her mouth as she couldn't find it anywhere near. Usually, she turned off the alarm every morning, since she had to make breakfast for everyone in the Lincoln Residence she used to wake up earliest in the morning.'I can't be late. Mom will sco... Wait, this is not Lincoln Resi...'Avery opened her eyes and darted around, all she could see was telling her that she was in some unfamiliar place.Feeling something as if claiming her, her eyes turned toward her midsection as she felt someone's hand on her waistline. She enlarged her eyes and examined the masculine figure that was sleeping on her next. Due to having his face turned to the other side, she couldn't see his face. She gobbled and remembered everything that happened last night. Her face turned red and she bit her lips. 'I... I slept with a stranger last night... I was the one
"Mr Wyatt, Miss Knight has..."Noah Miller, Apollo Wyatt Lincoln's secretary put a file on the table while uttering so in a rigid tone of voice when Apollo's eyes were glued to the wall clock. He turned around in his chair and skipped a glare at the file on the table. Letting out a sigh he rests his head against the chair."I see.""You don't look surprised..."Turning around Apollo smirked. He knew she would do something like this. "Let her do what she wants.""Got it, sir."It was past evening. Avery looked around and wiped off the sweat on her body. She was drained because of walking for so long. Since she left the hotel, she had been wandering everywhere. 'I don't believe him at all, he must be lying. I can't just give in to his wishes, knowing how he used to bully me I can't get myself to trust him without testing the fire!'Taking a look at her surroundings she gazed at the screen of her phone, she could see the time but the very phone reminded her of something else. Exactly wh
Sitting on the chair opposite Apollo, Avery was looking at him with sharp eyes. There was no way she was going to let him bully her like he used to do. Even if they would get married he would never be able to bully her. She decided it all in her mind. "Let me introduce myself. I am Daniel Hudson, Mr Wyatt's lawyer. I've prepared the contract for your marriage. Please read it carefully before signing it." The guy named Daniel handed her the contract. Avery skipping a glare at Apollo started reading it carefully.'Why so many details? I don't understand much... '"Details."Avery looked up at Apollo. 'Did he hear me? But I was mumbling... 'To Apollo's order, Daniel started explaining. "Yes, let me tell you about the pieces of information you should know before getting into this marriage contract.""Sure.""You guys will be married for ten months, when the contract expires you guys will go separate ways. In these ten months, my client Mr Wyatt will be helping you get back the property
Lindwens HouseAvery was following after Apollo. With every step she was taking, she kept playing with her hands and looking down. Without looking she took another step and suddenly she hit her forehead against something that felt hard. Avery mumbled, 'Ouch!' and looked up, rubbing her forehead. As she saw Apollo staring at her coldly, she smiled at him apologetically."Sorry." "There's nothing to be nervous about, what's wrong with you?" There came, his stern voice. "I am just... I can't help it.""Do you need some time?"Avery looked up at him, her nervous eyes meeting with his emotionless ones. She once thought about how would she handle it when she would be meeting with the person Apollo was taking her to meet with, but she quickly shoved the thoughts and decided she would be brave yet here she was, eating her words."No, I'm ok.""Are you sure?"Avery took a deep breath and nodded her head. As Apollo extended his arms towards her, she gave her hand to his and let out a breath
11 pmSettling herself on the couch, she glared at her phone and then at Apollo whose eyes were preoccupied with the computer. He had been on it for more than an hour now. After talking about having a fiancee, the room fell silent. They didn't talk again.Avery coughed and then glanced at him again. No reaction from him like she expected!'This man! He has been working and treating me like I don't exist. He didn't even tell me where can I sleep... Gosh!'Finally, she stood up and walked to him. She knocked on the table gently so he would at least look at her.Not moving his concentration from the computer, he asked her in a serious tone of voice, "What is it?""I am sleepy. Where should I sleep?""Take the bed." He answered shortly.Avery left him alone. Sitting on the bed, she looked at the photo on the side table. It was Apollo in a blue shirt and white pants, he looked around his twenties and was fairly handsome. She remembered back at school he was the most popular guy so he was
"Can I use some of your clothes from the cupboard please?"Avery propelled towards the cupboard and was waiting for his answer. "Yeah but reason?""It's all for our plan.""And what is that?"Avery randomly grabbed some clothes from the cupboard and then started tossing them here and there on the floor casually."Can you at least tell me what are you planning of doing?"She for one minute glanced at him then she took off the shirt that she was wearing. Apollo saw how messy his room was now. And he hated it. He gritted his teeth and asked her, "For God seck, what do you want to do?"To his question, she remained silent. The view looked perfect in her eyes when it was the opposite of him. Nobody ever dared to mess up his room, to avoid him, if it was someone else he would have fired them right away and make them regret for their deeds but he couldn't do that to her. Apollo tried keeping calm and being patient... For the first ever time in so many years. Avery finally inhaled the fres
The petals of beautiful flowers were followed by the wind. The Indian cork flowers were everywhere on the ground. Today was such a nice weather. In the whole school if there was a place she loved to stay at then it was this place. Every time she came here, her mood got better. In her school uniform a high school student, Avery Knight looked around. She looked kind of in a mess with her appearance, her hair high in a messy bun with her skirt slightly muddy. She looked so simple yet naive. Tears ran down her cheeks, and she wiped off her tears with the back of her palm. Avery sobbed and looked at her palm which got muddy earlier. Checking no one was following her she settled on the bench."They bullied me again, my hand is hurting. But what can I do? It was all because of that Apollo. He always bullies me and because of him, now everyone bullies me." Looking at the wound on her hand, Avery sobbed again. When students were after her, she somehow managed to get away from them or she coul
∆ A month later ∆"You look so beautiful. Such a beautiful bride!"Isla smiled with glimmering eyes as she looked at the bride. In an off the shoulder beautiful white gown, her sparkling energy looked infectious, Grace looked so joyful and beautiful. From the other side Avery put the crown on her head as she asserted cheerfully, "Omg, you look so beautiful. I'm sure, Patrick will be awestruck."Today was Grace and Patrick's wedding, and Avery and Isla be her bridesmaids.Grace smiled at the girls and voiced, "Thank you guys, both of you look as gorgeous."When the bride was coming down the aisle, the groom's eyes got teary. Patrick was too overwhelmed that he was getting married finally. He wiped off his tears and held her hand. Preston and Maverick were so happy, in the small suits they looked absolutely handsome. Noah was too busy watching his girlfriend, Isla. Apollo entangled his fingers with Avery's as they watched the wedding start.Isla was so happy, she was taking so many pi
∆ An hour later ∆"I will leave him begging on the street, your husband will die a painful death and so will your kids. Avery, I will kill your whole family." Those words kept beating in her eardrum like a bell. Her forehead sweated like a horse and her hand clenched into a fist."Prez, Mike." Suddenly opening her eyes as she found herself lying on the bed, with everyone waiting outside for her Avery quickly hurried out of her room. She saw Apollo talking to the officers."Where are my kids?""We are looking for them, we will soon..." The officers were interrupted as she voiced bitterly, "My kids have gone missing, how long are you guys gonna keep giving excuses?"The officers went silent. Avery wiped off her tears and felt short of breathing. She looked at Apollo and requested, "Please bring my kids back. Please... Jennifer is a psycho, she might hurt Prez and Mike. They are just kids, they should not... I don't know how are they doing now. I..."Everyone seemed worried, even after h
∆ One month later ∆"Good afternoon, Mrs Wyatt." As she proceeded out of the elevator elegantly in a black suit and pants, everyone greeted her respectfully. Walking into her cabin, she placed her purse in the drawer and then a hand encircled her waist. Avery smiled and turning around she hugged him.Apollo kissed her and asserted, "Welcome back.""Thank you, baby." Holding her hand he had her sit on the couch then he made her a coffee mocha."Here is your coffee, madam." Placing the cup on the table he asserted so a little playfully.Taking a sip of the coffee, she looked at the outside world from the window. Even a month ago, she was wondering what would her future be like. Avery felt blissed, just like she wished everything was going smoothly."It's been a month since Jennifer has been hospitalized. She is getting well, today I went to see her." Heavily sighing, she proclaimed so in a calm tone of voice. Her hatred for Jennifer was on top, every time she saw her suffering in the h
"Lieutenant, we have found her location."Police have been looking for her location for some time now, Noah and Daniel managed to stop Apollo from going to rescue Avery by himself.Apollo looked around. His eyes were fixated on the tab that was in the police officer's hand. "Let me see too." "Ava." As soon as the officer handed him the tab, Apollo ran to his car."Mr Wyatt, stop!"Quickly hoping in the car, he didn't even look back. "I will send the location to you guys. But I can't wait here anymore." "Shit! It's dangerous. We should have guessed the boss would do this, follow him. Faster! Dan." Getting in the car, Noah followed his car along with the police officers.∆ Liam's apartment ∆Tapping on the keyboard constantly Liam glanced at the clock again. At one time he grew so frustrated. After Jennifer's treatment, he didn't dare to fight her anymore. He remained quiet and followed her order.Knock!"Jennifer must have sent his men. Seems Avery has already signed the papers." Lia
With a smile plastered on his face, Apollo extended his hand, searching for her who was supposed to lie next to him on the bed. "Babe" As he opened his eyes, he was surprised. The side of the bed was empty, with his slightly dizzy head he sat on the bed, putting a pillow behind him.At first, he thought that she was in the bathroom but after calling her names and waiting for fifteen minutes as she still didn't show up, Apollo felt something was surely wrong."As far as I remember we were together before I fell asleep, she is supposed to be here... Avery." He then remembered what he planned of doing.Putting on a shirt he quickly headed out of his room, calling someone but as he came out, and saw Noah along with the four, he cut the call.Apollo felt more uneasy, he could understand something was surely not right since her friends were here as well.In a worried tone of voice, he questioned, "Where is she?"Everyone remained silent, they didn't know what to answer. After Isla talked t
"I wonder what's so urgent, why did Drea call me so early in the morning, telling me to come here."Getting out of the car, Isla hurried towards the hallway when suddenly she collided with someone. Looking up as she saw Noah, she was astonished, "Wait, what are you doing here?" She questioned him."Same, what are you doing here?" Instead of answering her, he questioned her."Drea said there was something urgent so I came to see her. How about you?"Hearing her Noah raised his brows, "She told me the same thing.""Damn it! It's worrying me, it must be something important that she..." Isla was thinking of the reasons when Noah suddenly held her hand. "What?"He took a peek around and dragged her close to his car."Noah, what is it?""You told me that you had something important in the hospital, it was because of this issue, right?"Smiling cheekily at him she rubbed the back of her head, while lying to him about why she couldn't go on a date with him she didn't think things would turn o
"Sorry, I can't let you get hurt. If anyone should get hurt then it's me, you must be safe and protect our kids. I love you, my husband." Placing a kiss on his forehead she smiled at sleepy Apollo for one last time.Getting in the car, she quickly checked the blue file that she took here with her. Her eyes glowed as she looked at the signature.∆ The Next Day ∆Avery was in the kitchen, making dishes when suddenly she felt her head spinning, she hissed and rubbed her head. Suddenly a hand reached around her waist and in a swift, she was taken in his arms.Widening her eyes, she smiled and hit his shoulder gently, "What are you doing? Put me down, I still have a dish to make ""We have chefs for that purpose." He added and only when they were in the bedroom, did he put her down on the bed.Avery looked around and tried getting up, but he pulled her back, sleeping next to her he wrapped his hand around her midsection.Avery could feel he was up to something. She raised her brows and lo
∆ The Next Day ∆Noah flat-out ran to the room, seeing him so panicked everyone looked at him.Avery gazed at him worriedly and asked, "What happened? Why do you look so worried?""You guys didn't see the news yet?"Both Avery and Apollo nodded their heads in denial and Noah quickly turned on the tv.The words on the news said indeed shocked them. "Wendy Lincoln is dead?"Noah reported with a nod, "Yes, she jumped from her house's building and died on the spot.""When did it happen?""At 3 am. She even left some suicidal notes that she was suffering from depression." Noah added.Avery had some words with Liam last night, he told her that he had something to tell her and he would tell her about it in the morning when they would meet again. But until now, she waited for his call but got none."Did the police find any trace?""No, there was nothing.""So it means the case will be closed soon."Avery looked sad. She remembered how Wendy behaved with her so trashy but still, she didn't wi
