Hailey

We sat in silence a bit longer, listening to the ocean and the murmur of voices from those enjoying a late-night stroll along the beach. Sitting there with him made me feel like we were in our own bubble. Nothing and no one were in our way. It was a comfortable silence, with each of us lost in our own thoughts.

“Have you thought any more about signing on to work with us exclusively?” he asked.

I sighed, hoping that wasn’t the reason he was taking me out. I didn’t appreciate the buttering up if that was the case.

“No, I haven’t,” I answered, my tone short.

He turned to look at me. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have brought up work. Please don’t think that’s what this is about. It isn’t. I promise. I was just making conversation about your work and plans in general. I’m not pressuring you in any way.”

I smiled and nodded my head. “Thank you. I haven’t decided. I’m still thinking about it.”

“Okay. We’ll leave it at that.”

There were so many things I wanted to ask him about his life, but

TerranTwo Weeks LaterI glanced at the little clock on the corner of my laptop screen. It was almost five. I could pack it up. I hit send on the email, happy to be done with work. I wasn’t usually one to walk out the door right at five, but lately, work had taken a back seat to my personal life. I didn’t want to put in the extra hours. I preferred spending my time with Hailey doing absolutely nothing. I wasn’t jumping out of planes or surfing every day like Zach, but I had found a different way to feel alive and excited about each new day.I heard my phone ringing and smiled. It was probably Hailey, wanting to know if we could hang out tonight. I had been expecting her call. I picked up the phone and was slightly disappointed to see it was my attorney’s number on the screen.“This is Terran,” I answered in my standard business voice.“Terran, it’s Jim. Do you have a minute?”“I do. What’s going on? Did you find the loophole I needed to void those demands?”He sighed. “No, unfortunate

  • Marry Me For Money   It Has To Be Her

Terran“You don’t get to want to talk to her about it. You have to talk to her and see if she’s willing to be your fiancée. I still think you can leave the fake part out of it. If you two have that deep connection, she may be willing to take it to the next level. Women are like that.” He spoke as if he had all the knowledge in the world about such matters.“I know, I know. I will. I’ll figure something out. For now, I want to enjoy the time I have with her.”I took a drink, draining the glass and hoping to drown my worries with the liquor. I felt like I was stuck between telling her and risking her leaving me, which I was pretty sure she would do now that I knew her better, or not telling her and duping her into an engagement. The very thought made my stomach twist into knots.“So, you really just talk?” he asked, sounding confused.I nodded my head. “Yep. I mean there’s been some kissing, but it’s mostly talking. We go out then usually end up at the beach or walking around the city.”

HaileyI slid on my favorite ballet flats, pulled my hair into my standard ponytail, and grabbed my purse to leave. Mandy and I were having dinner together tonight. She had practically demanded it. I had dropped off the radar, and she wanted to catch up. I had felt guilty about ghosting her as she called it. I didn’t mean to. It was just that my schedule and hers rarely matched up, and the few times it did, I had been spending the time with Terran.I wanted to talk to her and had missed her company as well as her savvy advice. There was so much happening in my life that I wanted to share with her. I was confused and excited about my relationship with Terran, if I could even call it that. I needed her advice on what to do. She was so much better at these things than I was.I showed up early to the orphanage on purpose. I wanted to say hi to the kids. It had been a while since I’d seen them. Between work and spending time with Terran, I felt like I had neglected the kids. I waved to the

Hailey“We kiss here and there, but it’s all very innocent. He doesn’t push. We’ve had some pretty hot make-out sessions, but he always stops before it gets anywhere without me saying anything. Honestly, I’ve been bummed more than once by his lack of interest.” “Maybe he can sense it,” she offered.I laughed. “I hope not. That’d be weird.”“Do you think this could lead somewhere, like a long-term relationship or even marriage?” she asked.I shrugged a shoulder. “I honestly don’t know. We’ve never talked long-term. I don’t even think we’re technically in a relationship. I don’t know how you know when you’re exclusive. Can I call him my boyfriend? I mean, when do you know?”She giggled. “I think that’s something you need to talk to him about. Guys have their own way of judging these situations.”“He is such a gentleman. At first, I thought it was a ploy, like he was trying to pretend to be someone he wasn’t. I don’t think that’s the case, though. He’s never slipped up. He is really tha

TerranI strolled through the lobby of the talent agency, smiling at people as I passed. I recognized a few faces from the movies.“Hello,” I greeted the woman sitting at the tall black desk in front of the talent agency’s large logo.“Hi, do you have an appointment?” she asked, barely looking at me.“Yes. With Gabriel.”She looked up and smiled. “Oh, Mr. Maddox, I presume?”“That’d be me.” I winked. She pushed a button and talked softly into the microphone attached to her headset before telling me to head down the hall to his office. I had been to the office a few times before and knew my way. I knocked once out of courtesy before entering the office.“Hey!” Gabriel said, getting up from behind his desk.“Gabriel, thanks for seeing me on such short notice.”“Of course. Come in, sit down. What can I do for you? If you’re thinking of getting into the business, I have to be blunt with you—you’re a little aged.”I laughed. “Aged like fine wine. No, seriously, though. I’m not here about m

Terran“I own a small company that we like to think is on the rise to the top. We’re interested in hiring you to run our first national campaign.”That got my attention. A national account was always going to get my attention. “What kind of company?”“Motorcycles and accessories. It’s unlike anything else on the market. We’ve been in SoCal for a while and have developed a cult following. We’re ready to take it national, but it’s got to be done right. We’ve been courted by plenty of ad agencies, but no one has what I want.”I raised an eyebrow. “What is it that you want?”He grinned. It was a nasty, lecherous grin that sparked the initial distaste I felt for him. He pulled out a magazine ad and slapped it on my desk. “Her.”I leaned forward and looked down at the ad. It was Hailey in one of the more provocative poses, wearing the spandex workout gear. I immediately wanted to snatch the page from the man’s meaty hand. I took a deep breath. The images were everywhere. They were designed

  • Marry Me For Money   Catalog Gig

HaileyThe exclusive contract with Terran’s company was not in play yet, which meant I was free to do some jobs on the side while I waited for the next campaign to be put together. This job had been lined up weeks ago. It was a catalog gig. It didn’t pay a lot, but I would bank the money. I was always saving up for that rainy day, which in the modeling world was the day clients decided you were no longer young enough, sexy enough, or thin enough and couldn’t get a job. I had seen plenty of the women I had started in the business with fade to obscurity for one of those reasons. Most were either struggling to get jobs or had given up modeling altogether.“Over here, Hailey,” the photographer called my name.I turned, posed, and waited for the series of clicks indicating he got his shot. It was a hectic shoot with backdrops changing and a location change scheduled for later. There were several photographers working, trying to get the full catalog photographed in a single week with a hand

HaileyI burst into laughter. “It’s okay. I knew what you meant. I was only teasing.”He shook his head. “You had me going.”“Sorry, model humor.”“I hope you ignored those two,” he said. “They’re jealous of you. They only wish they had your body and your looks.” “Thank you. That’s very nice. It really is part of the business. I’m used to it. Everyone is always fighting for that top spot. Sometimes, they’re willing to throw each other under the bus to get it or tear one another down. I’m not like that. I was in their shoes a long time ago. I am aging out of the industry, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I’m ready for it.”“You’re not aging out. Don’t say that.”I shrugged a shoulder. “I can either make the move back to the runways or move on. I’m ready to move on.”“Runways are good money.”I shook my head. “And way too stressful. I like what I’m doing now. I like being able to sleep in my own bed every night. Let the next generation do the runways and shows. They deserve their sh

HaileyI laughed nervously. “A whirlwind, really. I was doing the modeling thing one day, and the next, I got the call I had landed this part. I am so grateful to my husband for putting me in touch with Gabriel, my agent. It was like everything fell into place at the exact right time.”“What is this foundation I’ve heard you are working with?” she asked from the preselected questions Gabriel had given her.I smiled. “It’s a foundation to help those kids who tend to fall through the cracks in the foster care system. So many kids are on the streets today because there is a shortage of quality foster homes that are capable of dealing with some of the issues kids are facing.”She smiled and nodded her head. “You were never in the system?”I shook my head. “No. My mother raised me by herself, working two jobs to keep a roof over our heads. It wasn’t easy. I hated how much she struggled, but she taught me that life isn’t about how much you have or what your zip code is. She taught me love i

HaileyOne Year LaterI was more than a little nervous as I sat in the chair assigned to us in the second row. Terran put his hand on my knee and squeezed. I looked at him and smiled. When Gabriel had called to tell me I had been nominated for best actress in a feature film, I had nearly passed out. Our film had barely met the deadline to be nominated for anything.“You look absolutely stunning,” Terran said, staring at me with eyes full of love.“Thank you,” I said, smoothing down the long fitted black gown I was wearing. Terran had bought me a new diamond necklace to go with the dress. My hair was piled on my head in a fancy updo, leaving my neck exposed and the necklace fully visible. I loved telling everyone on the red carpet that asked that my husband had given it to me as a gift for my nomination. I had made more than one of the female reporters green with envy.“You’ve got this,” Terran whispered in my ear.“I’m freaking out,” I gushed, my finger twirling the wedding ring on my

HaileyI had my legs spread wide, his knees clamping down on my bent knee when I moved to close my legs, hoping to rub them hard enough together to get the relief I was absolutely desperate to have. His hand slowly moved over my stomach, stopping to rest on my pubic bone, inches away from where I needed him to be.I whimpered in frustration.“Shh, I’m here,” he whispered.I felt a tear slip down my cheek. I loved him so much. He had my body taut as a bow by simply loving me and worshiping my body. When his index finger slid down my center, spreading my pussy lips, I cried out in earnest. It was the lightest touch over my clit that sent me over the edge. My body arched off the bed as a violent, earth-shattering climax tumbled me into a place with a million shooting stars overhead. I felt as if I had been electrocuted, every muscle in my body tensing as his finger slid inside me.He held me while I moaned and spasmed against him. When my body finally spiraled downward, he climbed on top

HaileyI was happier than I had ever been in my life, riding a high that just seemed to be getting better and better.“I’m going to jump in the shower,” I told him, heading toward his bedroom. It had been a long, busy day, and I was ready to unwind with the love of my life and a good bottle of wine. But first, I wanted to feel clean. I stripped off my jeans before turning on the hot water of his magnificent shower that was big enough to hold a small party in. The jets on the sides and the rainfall shower head made it a very enjoyable experience to shower in his bathroom. I thought about the house we had just visited and regretted not checking out the shower situation closer. I had been so overwhelmed by everything else, the shower slipped my mind.I stripped out of my clothes and stepped under the hot water, letting it cascade over my body. Suddenly, the room was filled with beautiful jazz music. I grinned, knowing that had been Terran. A few seconds later, I felt a cool blast of air

Terran“It’s okay. If I had been honest from the start, I could have saved us a lot of heartache. It was never about the money for me. I wanted you, and I wanted to keep the company intact, even if that meant I had to step away from it.”She nodded her head, fresh tears welling in her eyes. “I’m sorry. I should have believed you. I’m so glad you came back and made me listen. I love you.”“I love you, and I would have walked through fire to get you back.”“I’m so glad you did.”“Thank you for showing me this. You’ve really opened my eyes. I think we can do a lot more good together. I want to do more of this.”She was smiling. “Good, because I plan on giving a large chunk of my salary for the movie to charity. I think we should decide where it goes together.”“What about here?” I asked. She burst into laughter. “I think that check you gave them is going to go a long way. There are plenty of other charities and organizations that are desperate for funding.”“Maybe we could start a founda

TerranI took her hand in mine as we walked into the bank. I had her sit on one of the chairs in the center of the lobby while I spoke with one of the people sitting at an open desk. I rejoined Hailey, who was nervously looking around the huge bank with big black columns supporting the ridiculously high ceiling.“What are we doing here?” she asked.I smiled. “You’ll find out soon enough.”It wasn’t long before a man wearing an expensive suit was striding across the marble floor toward where we were sitting.“Mr. Maddox, it’s good to see you. I’m Con Steven, the manager here. I understand you have some business you need to take care of?”I stood and shook his hand. “I do. This is my fiancée Hailey Hollis.”He shook Hailey’s hand and then led the way to his office. We sat down in the chairs opposite his desk. He tapped on his keyboard, pulling up my account.“Okay, I see you have a large deposit made recently. What can I help you with?”“I would like to have a cashier’s check drawn up f

HaileyWe talked with each of the kids for a little while before it was time for them to have their outside time. When Mandy left to take the kids to the playground, Terran turned to look at me. “That was crazy.”I laughed, picking up scattered crayons and scraps of paper. “It usually is.”“They all know you, and love you,” he said with awe.“I like to come by and help out. Mandy has a lot of kids to contend with, and with budget cuts, she doesn’t have a lot of help. I come in when I can. It lightens the load so the other aides and caregivers can focus on other stuff.” He was nodding his head. “I see.”“Terran, I brought you here because I wanted to show you why I’m so passionate about giving money to charities. This place is funded by the government, but that barely keeps the doors open and the lights on. They have to fight to get every dollar they can. I know it’s like that for a lot of other organizations.”He nodded his head. “I’m not opposed to giving money to charity. Not at al

HaileyI wasn’t surprised to feel the bed empty beside me. We’d stayed at his house last night, as usual. We’d gone straight to bed, both of us tired after a long few days. Terran had tossed and turned all night. I had a feeling he was a lot more anxious about giving away the money than he was letting on. I had to assuage my own guilt. I walked into the living room to find him pacing the floor, his phone next to his ear as he talked about his schedule for the day. When he hung up, I smiled at him. He smiled back, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes as it normally did.“You didn’t sleep very well,” I said, walking to him to kiss him good morning. He shook his head. “No, I didn’t. I have a lot on my mind.”I nodded my head in understanding. “Was that the office?”“Yes. I was clearing my schedule for the day. I still need to do a conference call, but the rest can be taken care of from home. What about you?” “I’m free. I mean, I’m supposed to be learning my lines, but I don’t have to be

Terran“I mean, I would not blame you for wanting to keep some or all of the money for our own future. I know you’re a genuine person. You don’t have to prove anything to me. It’s a lot of money to give away.” There was a skeptical look in her eye. “Are you saying that because you don’t want to give it away?”I shrugged a shoulder. “I won’t lie that I haven’t thought about what I could do with that money. I could expand the company, set up trust funds for every one of the seven children we’re going to have.” I winked, trying to make her laugh.“You don’t want to give the money to charity?” she asked.“I’m not saying that at all.”“But you’re regretting telling me you would?”I shook my head. I could see the wheels turning in her head. She was jumping to conclusions and letting the thoughts run away. I could see the anger and hurt in her eyes, and I grabbed her hand again.“Hailey, I regret nothing. I told you I would give it away if that was what you wanted. I will do anything to mak
