Charlotte's POV
After one week...She was facing the mirror now, lost in thought. Today is her wedding day with Elijah. It's not a grand affair—no wedding gown, not in a church, no venue for the wedding reception, and most importantly, no guests except for their respective families. She requested that her parents not let her and Elijah get married in a church; she preferred to get married just at the judge's office and without anyone knowing that they were getting married. It's because it's unavoidable for people not to pry into why she and Elijah were getting married, and in people's minds, it's like they're making up their own story about why they're getting married, so it's better to just keep quiet. After all, the reason they're getting married is because of a mistake, but she couldn't help but cry before this day because she never thought that her brother's friend would do such a thing to her, but she couldn't do anything about it now because everything had already happened and now she would be tied to the guy. There was a knock on the door, so she stood up and opened it. It was her mother. Her mother looked her up and down."Why aren't you dressed yet? We'll be leaving in a few hours.""I'll just wear a dress, so it's okay to do it later.""You haven't even started putting on your makeup, and your hair isn't styled either. I thought you had it under control, so I didn't hire a stylist for you."She smiled faintly before returning to her vanity mirror. Her mother entered and stopped behind her while they faced each other in the mirror."Are you mad at me, your dad, and your brother?" She shook her head. "I know it's too early for you to get married. I wanted you to be 25 years old when you got married, but it seems like not everything is according to what I want, and besides, I don't control what happens to you."Her mother took the comb. She was the one who fixed her hair, just tying it up and dropping a few strands in front of her face. She also did her makeup because it's just light makeup anyway; there's no need to beautify much because their wedding is simple."There, my only daughter is really beautiful." Her mother smiled. "But what I want is that even if your marriage with Elijah is just an arranged one, you'll still serve him as his wife, Charlotte."How could she do that if she doesn't know how? She's busy with school, and he's busy with his company, so how? Maybe the only special thing she could contribute is not being rude and speaking to Elijah politely, even if she doesn't want to see him every time she comes home. Once their wedding is over today, they'll go straight to Elijah's house. There's also a simple feast there, and that's where she'll live; even her belongings are in the car, packed in a suitcase."Char, let's go. We might be late going to the municipal hall; the mayor has a lot to do; he just squeezed us into his schedule, but..." Her mother looked at her clothes. "Change your clothes first and wear sandals; I'll go out to check on your dad." She nodded. After her mother left, she faced the mirror again. In a few hours, her surname would be Walton, but she wouldn't use it until she finished college. She looked at her bed, and there lay the white dress she would wear. She took it and put it on, but before leaving the room, she glanced at her reflection in the mirror.02 San Antonio Road...After a few hours, their car stopped at a municipal hall. She also noticed that there were cars parked on the side; it seems like Elijah's family is already there. They got off and walked inside. She noticed the employees there were busy as they passed by because they were heading to a room where the judge office is, but before she could enter, her mother pulled her back. She raised an eyebrow. "Why, Ma?"Her mother took something from her bag—a white, thin cloth."Wear this. This will be your veil.""Do I really need that, Mom?""Yes, you do. Turn around and bend down a bit."She turned around, and her mother started placing the veil on her head. She was really prepared because she also brought hairpins. Then she faced her and placed the other part of the veil on her face."Let's go."Her mother and father went inside first before she was pulled by her mother. But when they entered, she felt like sinking into the tiles of the municipal hall because everyone's eyes were on her. Good thing her mother gave her a veil, so it's not too embarrassing."The bride is already here. We should start," said the judge. She couldn't see Elijah much because of her veil, but she couldn't hide the fact that her brother's friend was very handsome; although he looked strict and stern when not smiling, the bruise on the side of his lips and eyes was barely visible. She also noticed that they were wearing the same design of attire; he was in a barong, while she was in an ancient-looking dress. She placed her hand when they faced Mayor Kevin, based on what she saw on the wooden plate above the table. Two hours passed before the judge finished the wedding ceremony, before they reached the part, "You may now kiss the bride."She just looked at the judge when he said that; she didn't want to face Elijah. But Elijah himself faced her and slowly raised her veil. She couldn't look into his eyes, so she just looked at his neck. Her lips met Elijah's on the corner of her lips, but his lips moved as if smiling or grinning. Even when he moved away, his expression remained serious. Maybe it was just her imagination."Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Walton." The judge laid out a paper. "Sign above your printed name, so your marriage today will be valid."Elijah signed first, then her. When they looked back, their families were smiling broadly, both Elijah's and hers, except for her dad and brother. When Elijah's family learned what he did, her mother pleaded with them not to hurt him because he had already received serious punches from her dad, so her mother said they should just talk calmly until they got married today. Elijah's parents were actually nice when she met them, but Elijah's stern face seems to have inherited it from his father, too serious as if, at first glance, he didn't like you for his son.Her mother approached her. "Congratulations, my child." She hugged her, and with a big smile, my mother looked at Elijah. "Congrats, Elijah.""Thank you, Aunt.""Now that you are already married, I will assume that you take care of my daughter," her dad said from behind Elijah.Elijah smiled slightly and bowed. "You can count on me to take care of your daughter, Aunt.""Good to know, so let's go. I'm hungry."She was about to walk away, but someone held her hand. She looked to see who it was; it was Elijah."Why?""You'll ride with me."She looked at his face; it seemed like he was forcing himself to let her ride with him."No, I'll just ride with Mom in their car."His grip on her hand tightened, and he spoke firmly. "I'll go ahead of your family because once you try to get in their car, they'll push you to ride in mine, using the excuse that you're already married."She blinked. "Okay, let's go." She took her hand from his grasp before starting to walk, leaving Elijah behind. But before she could even step out of the town hall, she was surprised to feel someone holding her hand again. She quickly glanced, only to see Elijah without a smile on his lips. They exited together, and she was sure she saw her mother smiling as she noticed them holding hands, but her brother and father didn't seem pleased. She raised her hand, and her mother nodded in acknowledgment.Elijah even opened the car door for her and closed it before moving to the other side of the car and getting in the driver's seat. They traveled for a long time, and she didn't realize Elijah's house was this far from the town hall. She also felt hungry because she only had coffee before leaving the house. They were the last ones to enter Elijah's house compound, but she didn't expect it to be this big, like a white house. An entire barangay could live there. She didn't notice when the car stopped. She was surprised when the door opened, and Elijah was already out. She stepped out while still looking at the front of his house."Let's go inside." He walked, but she was surprised that he didn't even offer her assistance, especially since the path was rocky before reaching the flat area.Because her sandals had heels, she walked slowly. She almost stumbled when she accidentally stepped on a rock. Just one step more, and she would be okay. When she did, she smiled broadly, but when she looked up, she lost it when she saw Elijah staring at her and gesturing for her to hurry up. It seemed he realized she couldn't be left alone outside, and Elijah was the first one inside.Elijah entered first, while she followed behind. But when Elijah stopped, she bumped into his solid back. She winced because the bump was slightly stronger."What are you doing?" He was already looking at her. She avoided his gaze. "Are you following me?" She didn't know what to say. "Tsk, you are free to go wherever you want here. I'm not your food."She rolled her eyes before walking away from him. It's up to Elijah; she just needed to find something to eat because she was hungry, but she stopped when she realized. Does their relationship mean they're like cats and dogs that don't get along? One is nice, but the other is grumpy. Of course, she's the nice one, and Elijah is the grumpy one. She just shrugged. They won't see each other every hour anyway, so it's probably okay.Everyone was busy because they were hungry; even her family was already at a table, eating. While she was just about to scoop her food, there was no one standing beside the food, so she had to manage herself. She took a long time choosing her dish because, while everyone was busy, she tasted them one by one, so if she didn't like it, she wouldn't take it and put it on her plate. She saw a golden brown color, probably fish filet, so she took one and ate it, but she almost choked when someone suddenly held her shoulder."Just choose what you'll eat; it's been a few minutes, and what are you doing? Are you tasting each one?"While chewing and finishing what was in her mouth before swallowing, she looked at Elijah. "I'm just tasting which ones aren't delicious.""That's not good, Charlotte."It's true, what she was doing wasn't good, but the food she would take would be wasted if she didn't like it anyway, so she just made sure."It's just family here.""Even so, show some manners."She frowned. Elijah's true nature seems to be coming out. He was about to speak, but she threw a whole fish filet in his mouth, as if trying to make him speak."Opps, don't talk when your mouth is full. Show some manners too, Elijah." He frowned as he slowly chewed what he had eaten. She left Elijah there because she was going to eat.Charlotte sat at the table, leaving two seats between her and the guests. Being the only one on her side, she indulged freely in the food she took, while Elijah sat next to her."Eat properly, Charlotte."She paused, glancing at her plate. Everything was neatly arranged, but she had a small appetite and wasn't particularly hungry."I'm eating fine, Elijah."He pointed to a drop of sauce on the tablecloth. "Is that fine? No, Charlotte. If you're going to eat, do it properly."Raising an eyebrow, she looked at the small stain on the fabric. His attention to detail was impressive; despite her plate being covered, he still noticed. She pulled her plate closer, ensuring no food fell, and continued eating."We both agreed that no one would know we're married, right?" She nodded, still chewing. "That night was before our wedding."She stopped eating. "This is the first time we've talked alone. I'm sorry for that night, Charlotte. I don't know what came over me."She could never forget what h
Elijah’s POVAs he sat quietly, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in the side of his stomach. He looked over at Charlotte, who was staring blankly at his abdomen."What are you doing, and why are you moving around so much?" he asked.Charlotte held up the money she was trying to count."I told you to focus on that later. Why are you so restless?""I have nothing else to do, so I started counting the money, and I've finished eating.""Aren't you ashamed of what you're doing? You look like you're counting money."Charlotte stopped what she was doing and turned to face him, wearing a serious expression on her face. "I'm starting this now because I have classes tomorrow," she explained."But you had time the other day," he pointed out."I have somewhere to go that day," Charlotte replied. He raised an eyebrow. "Where are you going?""Just to see a friend," Charlotte reassured him."Are you sure?" he asked skeptically."Yes," Charlotte replied, ignoring his doubts and continuing to separate th
Elijah's POVAfter staring at what he was reading for a long time, he blinked multiple times. He glanced at the clock, which was already eleven at night, but he didn't hear anyone trying to open the door. He put down the papers he was holding, as well as his eyeglasses, and stepped out of the room. It was obvious to him that his household staff were already asleep in the house, and the downstairs appeared clean when he peeked. He went to the adjacent room, slowly opening it and peeking inside, but Charlotte wasn't there, nor was she in the third room.Where could she have gone again? He descended the stairs and checked the entire house, but Charlotte was nowhere to be found. He was about to go to the servants' quarters to see if she was there, but he refrained, not wanting to disturb them. Now he stood in the middle of the living room, contemplating, but when his gaze drifted to the row of car keys, one was missing. He approached and looked at the keys. Would Charlotte be capable of d
Charlotte's POVShe stayed in Elijah's room after he left. She had a terrifying dream where Elijah's actions replayed in her room. It felt like she was back in her room while Elijah was doing something. She was even more scared when she woke up in the position he had left her in earlier while trying to wake her up. Perhaps it was because she was lying next to Elijah and she didn't realize that he had already carried her into the house and placed her inside the car. She glanced at the clock, it was already six in the morning. She stood up and looked at what she was wearing. She hadn't changed clothes, so she wondered why she was still lying in Elijah's bed, especially since he didn't like dirt or changing clothes.Surely, the bedsheet, blanket, and pillowcases would be changed later. She went to the bathroom to look for an unused toothbrush. She opened the cabinet above and found one. She took it out of the plastic wrapping brushed her teeth and washed her face. Then she went out with
Charlotte's POVShe went upstairs to ask Elijah about clothes. She just opened the door without knocking. She didn't see Elijah inside, he seemed to be in the bathroom, so she went to the closet to see if there was anything that would fit her, she would figure out the styling later. She opened two cabinets, but none of them had anything suitable for her. Only the last cabinet was left unopened, maybe there would be something, so she opened it but frowned because all the clothes hanging and folded at the bottom were women's clothes. Why are there women's clothes here? The bathroom door opened, so she looked. She looked away from Elijah because he was only wearing a towel around his lower body."Why are you poking around in that cabinet?""I just wanted to see if any of your clothes would fit me, but in this last cabinet of yours, why are there only women's clothes?"Elijah approached her, so she slightly moved away from the cabinet."These belong to my sister, whenever she stays here."
Charlotte's POVShe stepped out of the room and walked out of the house. Elijah was already inside the car, waiting for her to get in."Where are you meeting your friends?""At my friend's house."She noticed Elijah's eyes squint slightly. Maybe his vision is getting blurry."Which friend?""Mary."He nodded and started the car. She wondered why, with so many cars, Elijah only used one when going to their house. There were a lot of cars parked inside the yard, why weren't they used?"Do you know how to drive a car?" Elijah asked."No.""But you know how to start it?""I've seen my dad and brother do it.""Did you know what you did last night while you were asleep in the car is dangerous? Even if the car is running, there's a tendency to run out of gas. What if it runs out? The engine will die, and there won't be any air inside. Don't do it again, Charlotte."She didn'
Elijah's POVHe was standing in front of his house, waiting for Charlotte, it was already five o'clock, and she still hadn't arrived. On the first day of their agreement, it seemed like she was already breaking it.When six o'clock struck, he decided to go and pick her up. He knew where Charlotte's friend's house was because he had followed the tricycle she rode earlier before finally leaving the area.He stood outside, arms crossed, as he watched the gate. Suddenly, a woman who seemed intoxicated stumbled into his yard.He quickly walked over to Charlotte. "Good thing you didn't break our agreement right from the start." She didn't respond, just kept her head down, but her stance was unsteady."Charlotte.""Hmmp.."Something was off about her. He lifted her chin to meet her gaze. Her eyes were glassy as she looked at him."Are you drunk?"Charlotte furrowed her brow. "N-No..."He brought his n
Elijah's POVAs he was waiting for his maid to finish cooking, he went into his room to retrieve some medicine. He always kept medicine in his room due to the sudden illnesses that he would often experience as a result of working long hours. After collecting the medicine, he returned to Charlotte's room. She was wide awake and looking around."Take this medicine after you eat." He placed the medicine on the table beside the bed."Where am I?"He raised an eyebrow, noticing her reaction to the room."In your room.""My room?" She looked at him in confusion."Yes, this is your room now.""Meaning, this is the room next to your room?" She nodded. "I thought I'd be sleeping in your room.""I thought you didn't want to be near me? So, why ask?""I mean, didn't you want to make it easier in case our families called?"He sighed. "Perhaps you would prefer to have your room if you do n
Charlotte's POV"Charlotte, are you doing?! I need to use the bathroom too!"She heard Elijah's voice from outside."Just a moment!"She looked in the mirror again to fix herself. Elijah must not have noticed the traces of tears on her cheeks. He would surely ask questions until he found out the real reason why.She smiled at the mirror before opening the door. She bowed her head as she passed Elijah, slightly brushing against his arm."Hold on."She swallowed nervously when Elijah grabbed her arm."You've been silent for a while. Are you upset because it took me a long time to buy your ice cream?"She smiled, but she also expected that this wouldn't be his question."No. I'm just really tired. Can I take a nap for a while before we eat?" She still didn't face Elijah. If she did, her tears might start to fall."Are you in pain?""No. Just tired."Elijah slowly let go of her arm. She walked to the bed and lay down. She hadn't changed her clothes yet; she would do it later when Elijah w
Charlotte's POVElijah picked up the phone and called his secretary to bring some water to the office. Soon, she entered with a bottle of water, handed it to him, and then left."You might be thirsty. Drink this," he said to Shaira. Elijah walked over to Charlotte. He took the cup of ice cream and replaced it with a bottle of water."Don't eat this anymore. It's no longer cold and has melted. Drink some water so your throat won't hurt."She just smiled. Elijah had already left and returned to his table, where Shaira was. Earlier, while waiting for Elijah, she was surprised when someone entered. She thought it was Elijah, but it turned out to be someone else. Shaira was beautiful, and tall, and seemed to have no scars on her body. Her outfit was also very fitting. She was just really surprised because it wasn't Shaira she was expecting to arrive. She looked at the two of them again. Elijah was busy reading, as was Shaira, but what stuck in her mind was Shaira calling Elijah "my love."
Elijah's POVHe gritted his teeth. "We're leaving." He looked at Charlotte. "Let's go."Charlotte seemed to hesitate, glancing back and forth between the two of them."Charlotte," he called with emphasis."Uh, okay, Luis, you can tell me what you want to say tomorrow. We're in a hurry."He glanced again at Charlotte's friend, Luis. What did this guy need to tell Charlotte? Was it about the other night when he called for Charlotte to come see him?"Alright, tomorrow. You promise."Charlotte smiled and looked at him. "Let's go."She walked over to him and stood beside him. He gave Luis one last look before turning around and walking ahead."Wait! Hold on for me."He stopped and waited for Charlotte. He stared straight ahead and didn't look back."Why are you in such a hurry? You know I can't walk too fast."He looked at her face, which seemed a bit sulky. "I'm sorry."She rolled her eyes at him and started walking slowly. He followed her, and they walked together toward the parking lot.
Charlotte's POVElijah nodded. "Okay. I'll be back before five."She smiled. "Drive safely to the office." Elijah just looked at her, smiling. She got out of the car to avoid being late for class. She waved at Elijah before turning around. She walked quickly but carefully, remembering that she was pregnant. She checked her watch. Only five minutes before they closed the classroom door. She hurried and managed to enter the classroom just in time. Most of her classmates were already there, except for their first-period teacher. She sighed with relief as she sat down, slightly out of breath from her quick walk. She glanced to her left and saw Luis staring at her. They hadn't talked since he called her for a ride the other night. She looked away as their teacher entered the room.Time check: noon...Time flew by, and her classmates started leaving for lunch. They had one hour of free time, and they needed to be back in the classroom before 1:00 PM. She hurriedly grabbed her lunchbox and h
Charlotte's POV"Where's your master? Didn't you follow him?"Honey didn't respond, only looking up at a lizard on the ceiling. Charlotte smiled a little. She got up with Honey in her arms, carrying the cat like a baby. Elijah wasn't in the room, so she went downstairs to check if he was there. She was still sleepy as she walked down, but stopped when she saw Elijah carrying food."You're awake."She looked at what he was holding. "Are you going to eat upstairs?"He glanced at what he was holding before answering. "No. This is for you since you're awake. Just eat here." He walked back to the kitchen. She frowned. She approached and sat down. Honey jumped off and went to the cat house."Thank you."Elijah looked at her. "What time is your class today?"She paused. Did she have school today?"Don't tell me you forgot you had school today."She grimaced. Was she too happy, thinking she had no classes and forgetting it was Monday?"I forgot," she replied before taking a bite of rice.Elij
Charlotte's POVShe smiled at Elisse and didn't respond further. Elijah was in a hurry because it was late and they needed to get to their destination to rest. After an hour's travel, they arrived at the house Elijah had mentioned. It wasn't large, just enough for two people from the outside, but she didn't know what the inside looked like since they were still outside. It might be more spacious once she saw it."Here's the key. Open the main door, I'll carry the suitcases. You go in first."She took the key and approached the door. After unlocking it, she pushed it open slowly and felt for the light switch on the side. She looked around the room. She was right, it was only meant for two people, unlike Elijah's mansion, which was spacious even with all the helpers."Do you like it?" Elijah asked as he set down the suitcases on one side. "It's smaller compared to my house where Elisse is, but we'll only stay here temporarily while you're s
Charlotte's POVShe had been sitting in an old chair in a small room at the back of Elijah's house for a while now. It looked like a storage room filled with outdoor cleaning supplies. She had wondered why Elijah had asked her to stay there initially, but he had given her a reason. The unfamiliar car outside belonged to one of his employees, so she needed to hide. She slapped her leg as a mosquito landed on it. There were many mosquitoes outside. She stood up and peeked outside. She hadn't seen anyone approaching to tell her it was safe to come back inside. How long was Elijah's employee staying in the house? She was about to sit down again when the door suddenly opened. She turned and saw Elijah, sweat dripping down his cheek. She frowned. "Are you okay? Did you run here?"He shook his head and approached her. "Sorry, it took so long."She smiled slightly. "It's fine." He stared at her face. "What?""Pack your things. We're leav
Elisse POVAs she goes down the stairs, she notices a woman standing in the living room. It wasn't Charlotte because she knew her figure well, and she hadn't heard the sound of a car entering the driveway, so she wondered who it could be. But when the woman turned sideways, she frowned because she knew exactly who it was. They were now facing each other, her arms crossed and one eyebrow raised."There’s no party here. Judging by your look, you seem to have just come from a bar."The woman raised her eyebrow and looked at her with disdain. "None of your business. Where’s Elijah?" Then glanced around."Elijah’s not here, and excuse me, but I do care about your business since you came here.""This is Elijah's house; I can come here anytime I want."She smirked. "Do you have permission from the owner? As far as I know, Elijah didn’t tell you about this house, so how did you find out? Did you hire an expert to locate the hous
Venus POVShe downed the drink in her glass in one go, then slammed it back onto the table. She was at a bar to drink because she hadn’t seen Elijah for days. She also couldn’t enter his company anymore because she was apparently banned, though she didn’t know why."Take it easy on the drinking. You're not a princess waiting for a prince to take you home," said her friend Sandra."Leave me alone; I'm pissed off right now.""Why?"She poured more alcohol into her glass, drank it, and then answered her friend's question, "It's because of Elijah.""What about him?""I haven’t seen him for days. I'm banned from his company; the guards won’t let me in no matter how hard I try.""Tsk. You're being stubborn. He already told you he doesn’t want you anymore, didn’t he? When someone says no, you should stop insisting!"Her eyes flared as she swirled her glass filled with alcohol and ice."No way. We’ve been friends for a long time, and what we do together—I won't let him slip away from me for t
