I woke up super excited the next day, once he gave me the go ahead I started to put everything in place, we didn’t have the equipment for the other therapies but Nick was to get that prepared so I had to work with what I had which was a pool. I put some floaters in it which made it look like a seven-year-old was about to have a pool party but I had to work with what I had.

“Good morning” I shouted at the top of my voice, before knocking on his bedroom door

“Good morning” I sang, and I didn’t get a response again so I knocked one last time before I peeked inside the room

“What the hell do you want?” He asked frowning, he was sitting by the window

“Our first session start at eight,” I said smiling from ear to ear

“It is six what is the noise about?” he asked looking at me like he wanted to murder me with his eyes

“I just came to remind you and ask if you needed anything?” I asked grinning, he wasn’t going to spoil my mood it was a great day

“And since when is that your business?” He as

I spent half of my time doing research and trying to figure out more solutions that could work while the other half doing the therapies on Leon, he had started to lean more into not questioning me or arguing about me he mostly just did as I told him. It was still way too early into it to see results yet but I could tell it was going to work out because of how consistent and progressive he was.“Hey,” Nick said, making me turn my attention to him, I just finished a session with Leon. This time we did the robotic-assisted therapy. It was a lot more painful for him than I thought it would be because the machine was stretching his muscles and trying to unstiffen some of his joints, so I was in the library Leon made for me trying to do some little research to see about that form of therapy and how progressive it could be so I would know if I was to tweak it a bit or just ditch the whole thing.“Hey Nick” I gave him a little smile“Aren’t you working too hard give yourself a break” Nick sai

LEONNaya was giving it her all to make it work, she was the kindest and most encouraging whenever we were doing a session. She was almost like a different person, no sass, no sarcasm, no argument even when I lashed out at her she still always kept her cool. She also spent long nights studying and doing a lot of research, she would always sleep off most nights on the table covered with different books. That gave me a bit of assurance that she knew what she was doing but she was working herself way too much. She wanted that result, maybe even worse than me with the bad leg. “Hey Boss,” Nick said walking into my study“How you feeling?” he asked“I am good,” I said taking a sip of my coffee“You know what I am talking about. The therapy, you leg, how are you feeling?” he asked“No difference I am just sore” I breathed out, it was too early to be discouraged but I was gifted with patient “That is a good thing, you didn't feel anything before,” he said smiling “Yeah I guess” I rolled m

NAYAI got back feeling a lot more refreshed than ever, Nick was right I needed it. Other than the fact that I bumped into Ryan the day went well, I couldn't stop thinking back to him handing his business card to me. Like what was he trying to do? Or get from me? He was a big-ass creep that needed to be put in his place.I had an evening session with Leon so I didn't bother to go to my room, I decided to rest on the couch till he came out for the session. The masseuse did a great job. I have never felt so light in my life, I was so light that I felt like I could be blown away. “A little nap won’t hurt,” I said to myself, adjusting so that I could get more comfortable, that was the last thing I remembered before everything drifted away. When I woke up from my supposed nap, it felt like the best sleep I had ever had in my life. I kept on stretching and yawning as I searched around for my phone to check the time. “Finally up?” I heard someone say making me jump“Holy cow” I jumped“Le

After our little conversation, I headed to my room not like I could get any sleep but I spent the rest of the morning doing more research that could help. I was bummed that I missed a session. It was just one session but there wasn’t the luxury of time so every session was important.I walked into Leon’s therapy room early that morning, determined to make progress. I had stayed up, researching techniques to help strengthen his core and leg muscles we had to make up for the session that was missed. It was exhausting, but I didn’t mind. I was determined to make him walk again, no matter how much effort it took.Leon was already waiting for me in the gym, sitting in his wheelchair by the large window that overlooked the garden. His face carried its usual unreadable expression, but there was something different today. Maybe it was the slight narrowing of his eyes or the way his hands gripped the armrests of his chair.Did he get any sleep? Why was he here so early?“Good morning,” I greet

It was Sunday so it was rest day for us, no sessions just so he could rest his muscles from the intense week of training we had, but I still spent my own day doing what I have been doing for a while now which was more research as sad as that sounded. That was my new life. Usually, I spent Sunday with my sister before she got into the hospital, we would go to the park and just lay on the grass while fantasizing about the type of life we would love to live. Thinking back at it left a pang in her heart so I buried myself inside the massive textbooks to shut my mind out.“Even on a Sunday?” Nick asked walking into the garden where I was, I decided to take it outside to listen to nature as I did my thing“What are you doing here?” I asked surprised to see him “I came to give this to Leon,” he said, showing me a brown envelope “He makes you work on the weekend also? That man is such an asshole” I said“I’m right here” I heard Leon say startling me, I looked to see him rolling in his whee

“Where?” I asked, staring at her, my voice trembling with anger. She just stood there, looking at me like I hadn’t said anything.“I said, where do you fucking burn it?!” I shouted, my voice echoing through the house.“Woah, calm down. It was in the backyard… or garden? I don’t know which one,” she shrugged like it was nothing.Without wasting a second, I stormed out, my legs carrying me faster than I thought they could. My heart pounded in my chest as I ran to the backyard. I hoped to find something, anything that belonged to Nyla.My eyes darted around, searching desperately, hoping for even the smallest trace of her. My heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might break free from my chest. Then, I saw a pile of ash, dark and lifeless. And on top of it, something caught my eye. A teddy bear.It was burnt halfway, its once soft fur now blackened and singed. It was barely recognizable, but I knew it instantly. My chest tightened, my breath catching in my throat as I stumbled close

RYANI leaned back in my chair, the city skyline spread out before me. It was a view I never got tired of. The world below looked so small, insignificant, and powerless. Just the way I liked it.The sound of heels clicking against the marble floor broke my thoughts. I didn’t bother turning around. Only one person in this house stormed into rooms uninvited like she owned the place.“You’re going to want to hear this,” my mother’s voice cut through the silence.I turned slowly, lazily swirling the glass of whiskey in my hand. She was standing in the middle of my office, arms crossed, her perfectly manicured nails tapping against her elbow. That little habit of hers meant she was annoyed.“Well?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.“She refused,” she said curtly. It took me a moment to catch up. I frowned, setting my glass down. “Who refused what?” I asked“That little orphan girl you let into this family,” she spat, her face twisted in disdain. “Amarie called. Naya turned down the deal. She

For the first time in what felt like forever, I could finally breathe without that weight on my chest. The constant fear, the feeling that something bad was always around the corner was gone, like I would get snatched and stuffed in a trunk once again. It had been weeks since Ryan was hospitalized, and though the memory of everything he’d done lingered in my mind, I was starting to feel at ease. The days had taken on a rhythm that felt… normal. I’d wake up early, make breakfast, and help Leon with his treatment. He had his bad days, days where he felt stuck, frustrated, or just plain tired but for every difficult moment, there was progress. Little by little, we were moving forward. And then there were days like today. The sun reflected through the wide windows of the home gym, casting a golden glow over everything. I stood by Leon, watching him as he prepared for another attempt at walking. His hands gripped the parallel bars tightly, his knuckles turning white from the pressure. Swea

NAYAThe car ride back home was quiet, almost painfully so. Leon sat beside me in the passenger seat while Nick drove, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. He hadn’t said much since we left the hospital, and neither had I. But it wasn’t the kind of silence I was used to. This one was heavy, thick with unspoken words that hung in the air like a weight on my chest. My mind raced, piecing together everything I’d overheard at the hospital. I paid attention to Ryan’s and Leon’s conversation, but I didn't grasp the whole thing that was said. But the parts I did hear were enough to unravel the rest. The way Leon spoke to Ryan, the icy calmness in his voice, the way Ryan had reacted to him. He was sure that Leon was the one behind it and Leon never denied it or accepted it. Leon had orchestrated Ryan’s accident. At first, I tried to tell myself I was wrong. Maybe I had misunderstood, maybe I didn’t hear things clearly. But the more I thought about it, the clearer it became. The way Leon had cho

I was scared of stepping outside the house, I have never tried to but the thought of it scared me.I tried all my best to hide everything from Leon so he wouldn't worry about me, which was almost impossible because he was breathing down my neck twenty-four-seven, watching and monitoring my every move like a hawk. Before I was done with my treatment he insisted on staying by my side every night and now I was done with it he still checks up on me in my room. LEONI have got to learn multiple times that Naya is not someone to back down from a fight no matter how tough it could be. NAYAThe sharp ache in my body was impossible to ignore, but it was nothing compared to the weight pressing on my chest. I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, the faint scent of antiseptic in the air reminding me I was safe now. But the word “safe” felt hollow.Every inch of me hurt, my face throbbed, my wrists stung from the ropes that had bitten into my skin, and the bruises on my ribs made breathing a slow, painful chore. Yet through all of it, one thought refused to leave me. I couldn’t let this stop me.It had been the same routine for me every day, I ate, laid in bed all day, and slept. Leon was very strict with me, he didn't let me do any damn thing and I was tired of arguing with him.Leon sat by the window, his silhouette illuminated by the faint glow of the moonlight. His gaze was distant, his body tense as if he were bracing himself for another fight. The sight of him like that rigid, lost in thought made my chest ache differently.“Leon,” I called softly, my voice hoarse.

RYAN I was in my office, the silence heavy around me. The usual buzz of phone calls and business meetings was gone, replaced by an unsettling stillness. I was used to chaos, but today felt different. It was as though the weight of my mistakes had finally caught up with me.I had spent the last few hours trying to calm myself, but all I could think about was how I had failed. Naya had slipped away again, and the cops had ruined everything. I had the perfect plan, but it was all for nothing. And now, I had to face the consequences of my incompetence. As I stared out the window, trying to shake off the sinking feeling in my chest, I heard the soft click of my office door."Mr. Valois, you have a delivery," my secretary said, her voice tentative, as though she knew something was off.I didn't respond right away.
