There was a deafening silence in the spacious room as she waited for his reply.

The rate at which she was close to him nearly made her falter; his expensive perfume gracing her nostrils, his dangerous but hot looks caressing her eyes and his presence, intimidating.

His gaze met hers, searched hers, as if he could find the answers in them yet, he wouldn't utter a word.

"What now, Cat got your tongue?" she elicited, but still he didn't say a thing.

he must have been preparing a firing speech somewhere in there but before he was ready to spit whatsoever, she wanted to air her mind.

"You will probably have it again, but not until I'm done with you, Mister Woods." She continued. "If that is what you do to survive, then count me out and— " She stopped.

He wasn't looking at her, so, she took it as an opportunity to scan him allover. Her eyes roamed his beautiful face then his barely noticeable exposed Adam's apple protruding at the top

Selena Gomez- the heart wants what it wants. The view on his laptop screen from his office desk was heart-ripping. Watching every bit of it felt like a blunt knife being shoved into his skin. Death was a better option than the sight of her smile glints originating from someone else and not him. Not wanting any more of emotional torture, Marley disconnected himself from the Closed-Circuit Television. One sure thing was, Zaphrina was a tremendous distraction. He scarcely concentrated on anything; be it work-related, family related as well as himself. For some odd reasons, he loved it. She was now his favorite distraction. He eyed the stack of files and manuscripts on his office table, it was going to take an eternity to attend to every one of them especially with a bomb of a lady preoccupying his senses. They were both in Marley's low profile Toyota RAV4 neither of them uttering a word. He found the silence irritating. He knew not what to say, or perhaps he did but knew not where to commence. Marley saw her delve into her purse for her phone. She must have gotten tired of staring out the window, Her fingers jabbed the phone screen before taking it onto her ears. A frown etched her face giving him the impression that she must have fallen into voicemail. She tried the number one more time, still, she fell into voicemail. Marley eyed her and while doing so, curiosity got the best of his eyes. She had been trying to call a man--Mason as seen on the caller ID. He would've thought it was her brother if the name hadn't stroke a part of his memory. It was a conversation he couldn't forget, though he was in the worst of conditions. "Mason I don't know what to say, you hurt me so much that the scars will never heal." The guy that nig

Her night has been restless. That explained why she was awake as early as four am. With a preoccupied mind, she did her morning routine and was ready to leave home earlier than usual. Zaphrina opened the door to suspended knuckles. Before her stood a girl of her age or so, her crimson ombre hair cascaded down her mid-back. Her oval, calm-pasted face revealed a soothing smile. The shade of her big orbs could put the ocean to shame. Zaphrina's gaze wandered south to see a belly bump protruding from the fitting sleeveless blouse she had on. Based on her assumptions, the young girl would be dancing between tweleve to fifteen weeks. Her hand owned a chubby little girl, judging from the feeble eyes and rosy cheeks, it was clear the little one hadn't had enough sleep. "Good morning," The girl said. "Good morning," Zaphrina reflected. "I'm sorry to disturb you at these early hours of the morning. I have an appointment with my obstetrician in about twe

Zaphrina straightened on her seat, tried as much as possible to not erupt her discomfort before him. So far, the night had rolled bump-free. But, Zaphrina knew too well that, just like the pros, the cons existed too. She had foreseen, thought, acquired, rehearsed yet, she felt as blank as a sheet of paper. As scared as a man in a lion's den and perplexed as a History student in further maths lectures. Truth is like a wound, it hurts but cures. Little Thomas Greene's words reflected before her, just like her image would do before a mirror. "I put them on, yes, strictly on special occasions," She didn't lie, so she thought. She returned to the glass of water she had almost choked on earlier, taking huge, throat breaking gulps this time, praying for it to choke her to the point of hospitalization, for she knew, she was drastically going to fall off cloud nine if the conversation wasn't diverted as soon as possible. Yes, cloud nine; She felt something special with Marley interiorly

Inspired by Calum Scott--You are the reason. The day had risen with Zaphrina's head throbbing like it was incessantly being hit with a sledgehammer. She reached the maid's quarters, where she heard faint giggles originating from the kitchen. She went over to the moderately sophisticated kitchen to see Leila and Neville already present; discussing on the tiny marbled kitchen counter over a cup of coffee and toasts—evidence of being late. Elijah picked her up forty-five minutes after she was all prepared for work which wasn't a habit she would've nurtured even with her car in the sickbed. "The young master instructed I pick you up at seven o'clock prompt." he had said. Seven o'clock on daily basis, was the time she was already seated at the granite kitchen island, staring at the coffee cup beneath the coffee machine as she impatiently waited for Neville to give her the green light whilst tapping her fingers on the island out of i

"Babe, we need to talk. Like right now," the lady, whose arms were crossed above her chest ordered. Zaphrina's gaze twitched to her minted green ones. The girl in person looked quite familiar to her. Yes, she could remember her, like it was just yesterday. Her ponytail glossy auburn barnet freely cascaded down her mid-back. The lass was dressed in a simple, fitting brown lacy dress above a pair of shiny black pumps. She was no doubt the lady who got lipstick and foundation smudges all over Marley's shirt that one and faithful day. Zaphrina's stare fluctuated from hers to Marley's who was already looking at her with a chain of justifications reflecting back at her. She gently shook her head in dismay as her weight vacated the bed. "Zaphrina, I want you to-" he began, rising from the bed too. "I'll be in my work unit, young master," She bowed. "I'll leave you two right away. Now, if you would excuse me." She rushed to the door, whe

Marley set aside his laptop, walked to his wife and gently massaged her shoulders, "Anything for you, baby panda." he smirked at their reflection in the mirror and from the look on his wife's face, she seemed as excited as he was. "Kinky." "Am I?" Zaphrina smiled back as she quit the chair she earlier occupied, causing Marley to pull her waist to his bulging crotch. Marley tried several times to steal a peek at his bride but her mum wouldn't let him, in fact, she warned him it was bad luck to do so. So, he had to bear with the suspense until now that she walked down the aisle of St. Martin's Cathedral looking enticingly gorgeous, Stunning, in her white tiny diamond glittering wedding robe. "It is done like this," Mira said, taking the hand grinding machine from Zaphrina. "Tu vois?" you see? But Zaphrina only whimpered whilst touching her tummy in response. "What?...Mon Dieu!" she exclaimed, eyes wide at Zaphrina's wet legs. In a matter of minutes, in pains and cries, Zaphrina was rushed to the Buea Regional Hospital. ..••.. "It's Buea, somewhere...in Cameroon. Checkpoint if I'm not mistaken." "What are you saying?" Marley had decided to face his mum again after four months. The only reason he did so was because of peer pressure from siblings and his dad. Apparently, they told him she was dying and needed to set eyes on him but he only took that as an excuse for him to see the woman. To say he wasn't surprised that his mum hadn't recovered from the so-called stress would be an understatement. But he went anyway because he missed her. "You wished to know her whereabouts didn't you?"

Somewhere in the depths of emptiness, he heard the beeping sounds of a machine, like those he usually heard in hospitals. Marley fought to ignore it to no success so he tried to open his eyes to decipher the origin of the nagging sound but it was almost impossible to break his lids open. "Look, his finger shook," he heard a soft female voice say. "Are you sure?" "I swear it did—there it goes again." "Right. Go call the doctor. Quick!" The voices to his ears were so distant yet, the words were figurable. Where was he? Marley in a second attempt to open his lids saw before him a surly sky of white. Then came an unbearable pulsing of his head. He grunted. The doctor, he presumed, rushed in and instantly patted random parts of his chest with his stethoscope. What I'm I doing here? With his eyes void of emotion and plastered to the ceiling, Marley struggled to shut down the incessant pulsing in order to reminisce the series of event which had led him to such an unpleasant atmosphe

Kate exclaimed in confirmation. "What on if I may ask?" "Tomorrow's atmosphere after seven am: If he blooms acknowledgment and positive feedback then, I will stay but if not, I'm afraid I'll really have to leave the country." "I pray it's positive. I really don't want you to leave," Zaphrina smiled, "Here, I saved some money to sustain you while I'm gone." "You're being pessimistic." "You needed to see how much anger blazed in his being. I would be lying if I said I have high expectations of him showing up."

Just two days ago, he was broken to the marrow, so close to death that even Lauren had noticed when he had come to see Louisa. The latter was his comfort during those times until she had decided to leave for the main residence the previous day. His wedding was due in two days and he had decided to go ahead with it as it pleased she who wished for it. It appeared her mind had been made up on deserting him for reasons he couldn't quite understand but thinking about it for past days: if she turned down his offer to give her ten times more money than his mum did, that should simply prove there were more reasons for her actions than just the money. And the reason no doubt was one his mum probably knew? Marley pressed hard on his temples. They hurt so much from brainstorming nonstop. He never thought he'll ever wish for something like

He hadn't gone as far as switching on his computer for the past three hours. He wanted to see no one--not even his best friends, receive no call be it from the most important of his clients or whoever despite the fact that he was slumped in his business site. Marley was delighted though not entirely: knowing Louisa was safe and sound and had finally made up her mind on forgetting the scoundrel who found pleasure in jumbling her heart with rocks, on the other hand, his heart burned whenever he thought about Zaphrina and the words she had mumbled to him. He sighed in frustration. Earlier that morning, he had tried calling her again yet no change, the act which almost had him smacking his new phone against the wall. Marley collected his coat from the back of his chair, prepared to depart; He was expecting Lauren home in less than four hours to see Lou
