Amelia's POV
It was a good thing to hear the approval of Pamela's trip with me to Spain, from the mouth of her mother.
Perhaps, Pamela has been telling the granny something about me that made her approve immediately, I should ask Pamela.
No, I won't.
"She is cute," I told Ethan when we got back that evening. The old woman gave fresh flowers to me from her garden, "this is all I have to give to you, Amelia," she referred to me by my name, for the first time since we arrived.
I was careful enough to hold the bouquet with care, I wanted them in the centre of the living room.
"How did it go?" Ethan asked when we returned. He surprised Pamela and I with dinner.
"What did you cook, uncle?" Pamela asked, watching him walk out of the kitchen, holding two plates.
"I ordered, actually," he confessed, placing the pla
Amelia's POV"Luke," I heard myself mutter, although I knew he didn't hear me say his name.He was dressed in a jean trouser and wore a hoodie. It almost felt like I perceived the smell of his perfumes, although I didn't. The memories were only racing in my head.He was far from where I sat. I looked at him carefully, recalling what Ethan had told me_the news Matthew and the rest of the men gave to him days ago in his office. He was with a girl, I noticed for the first time since I was staring. Who is she? I wondered, recalling the fact that the young man may be into human trafficking._girls trafficking. What on earth does he do it for? I thought, my eyes still on him. I brought out my phone to quickly take a picture when someone tapped me."Do you know him?" It was Pamela's voice. I turned to look at her,
Scarlett's POVThings went from bad to worse in the house I live with Luke. I no longer have a say in my house, I am scared to do anything again as the woman of the house. The last time Luke left the house, he came back two days later. I called his lines over and over again, afraid of something bad happening to him. If it hasn't happened already.I considered going to the police station to report a missing case to them. I was ready for all their questions_"when was the last time you saw him?" "What was he wearing?" I was ready for them all just to see Luke again. But my conscience wouldn't let me go as I planned, I know very well that the man has gone to one of the women he is seeing. He probably spent two nights in her house, with her on the bed.Whoever Isabella is? I wondered as I sat on the couch, waiting for whatever was going to happen. It is either I see one of the citizens drag Luke's corpse into the compound or he returns from wherever he has gone to. Did he even go to
Ethan's POVIt was good news to me when I heard that my wife, Amelia and the maid, Pamela, were successfully conveyed to Spain. Although, no conversations have been held since the day they left the house via phone calls. We only talked via WhatsApp texts and never over the phone. I, myself, have become too busy at the office with my work. My pocket is almost drained, the expenses made for the leave of my wife, the car and the visa I prepared for her trip in advance.Including the house in Spain, the apartment was worth it but too expensive, almost costlier than my mansion here in New York. I am not too worried, though. I am certain that they are safer in Spain than here in New York.On the day they left, I received a new while at the office.Amelia saw Luke.Again! I heard myself scream back at her over the phone, I was shocked
"I'll be back," I threw my words at Scarlett who did not even bother to look or nod at me. It was very obvious that she was still surprised at me over nights ago. What is so surprising in what I did? I collected something rightfully mine, by force. It is no big deal, I wondered, opening the door of my car and hopping in, almost immediately. It was the evening of that day, I returned from work and left the house again. I was on my way to the mall. I should let Scarlett do it but I don't want her touching my money anymore, neither do I want her to be seen walking that way.I noticed she stopped walking properly ever since that night. I expected such, she obviously was in no mood to be touched that night, and her neck. Her neck still has a mark on it, slightly reddish and at the same time, brown. The neighbours will definitely question her if they saw her in such a mess, and Scarlett on the other hand, can not tell a lie."Good day," I reached the mall, greeted the man at the gate while
Amelia's POVIt was in the early hours of the morning_not too early but was the right time to still have some rest before finally preparing for work when a knock came in at the gate. I still snored in my room, same as Pamela who was yet to leave hers.It came on and on, until Pamela rushed into my room to announce the presence of a stranger at the gate."Who could it be?" I asked, sitting up on the bed. "It is barely a month since we arrived here, right?" I asked, looking at the wall clock hanging on the wall. "I have no idea," the scared lady said, sitting next to me on the bed. "A thief, perhaps."I laughed, hugged the small woman to myself and touched her beating heart. "Are you sure this is the house?" I asked, she nodded, claiming she heard the noise and confirmed moments ago by checking out at the veranda upstairs."Let's go," I told her, jerking the duvet off from my body. "It's still too early to invade people's privacy," I complained. The knock came again and I hastened
Ethan's POVThe day to track the criminal arrived, I woke up from my sleep with an upset stomach. What did I eat the previous night? I asked myself, recalling I had mashed potatoes I prepared by myself.I only boiled and did the necessary things. What else did I do to the potatoes to cause an upset stomach for me?Was it that bad? I thought as I made for the bathroom to poop. It wasn't easy reaching the room, but I did. My phone beeped several times, I overheard from the bathroom where I was.I sat on the toilet seat for almost an hour, doing nothing in particular before getting up again. I walked back into the room and got naked the next moment, this is something that never happened with Amelia in the house. How will I get naked in front of a woman? I can go naked in front of any woman, but not Amelia. She should and will definitely run away or yell at m
Scarlett's POVFor some reasons, I am more than happy with Luke for the balm he gave to me last week. Did he foresee the call I will get fromMother and Father? Their calls came in days ago, asking me to visit the house.I know mother is at it again, it is either she wants me to see a part of the house that got renovated or she has something else to show to me.Maybe she got some nice slippers from the boutique, who knows?Father's reason for asking me to come is pure, I know. He wants to see my face and have a small moment with me, his daughter. We barely talked these days, after all and I, myself, miss them so much. Including Amelia who has gone on a break from po
Ethan's POVMatthew, myself and the rest of the men have visited the airports more than three times since the last event.Three times is less than how many times we have gone, almost six times in the space of two weeks."I am angry!" Matthew yelled, hitting the seat belt around his waist. It was the last time we agreed on going to the airports, we saw nothing to hold against Luke and it freaked the young man out._including myself."Did that hurt?" I heard myself asking, looking at his face for a sign of pains, and his stomach to see if that part of him was breathing heavily."No," he told me, shaking his head."Why is he not showing up?""I have no idea, I should ask you, and your fellows for doing a bad job," I told him this time.I was already angry at him
Ethan's POV I slept soundly that hour, almost dreaming when a hand hit me. At first, I thought it was in my dream, or a mis-thought. The hand butted me again, and I jumped up on the bed. “What is it?” I asked Amelia, she held onto the edge of the bed, gasping for air. “What is it?!” I asked again, holding her hand. “I think the babies are coming.” I thought I didn't hear the words clearly until she repeated them again, Pamela's name filled my mouth the next moment. I was more confused and hurt when Amelia burst out crying, it was in the early hours of the morning and definitely not the right time for this. Whatever it is that she felt must have hurt, deeply. “Pamela!” I screamed the young lady's name again, higher than the former pitch and tone. I heard the door of her room creak, and footsteps were heard. She was on her way. “What is it?” The confused woman asked, rushing to Amelia's side. “I think the babies are coming, uncle.” Of course, I know. The only thing I d
Amelia's POVThings got better.I moved on from the pain that came with Scarlett's death. The rest of the men who worked with Luke were apprehended days after we returned from the burial.“He promised to go the day after we visited.” Ethan said, taking it personally.“At least, they've gone.” I said, giving him a reason to be calm.Their trial came up in a few weeks. Mother and Father call to speak with me over the phone once in a while, there was a feeling that comes with speaking to them.I finally see myself having more than just a contract with Ethan. He is a sweet man, and very supportive – he stayed by my side all through the period of my mourning.“I love you.” I remember the words he said to me that day in the room – on the bed.I
Amelia's POVIt was barely a month and Scarlett's funeral was organized.Ethan stayed by my side all through, he took a leave from work just to be with me. Pamela on the other side can be sweet, and even sweeter. It dawned on me even more and more that my sister is dead.“We'll visit the police station today,” Ethan announced one morning. “Get ready.”“Why?”“What do you mean?” He asked, turning to face me. “You've not had a conversation with your sister's killer since the day it happened. Don't you want to see him?”“I don't know.”I thought about it. I wanted to see Luke, I ended up deciding, I took my bath later that evening and was ready to see him.Luke Oren.“Can I come with you?” Pamela beg
Tessa's POVI did not scream enough when the nurse told us the latest development.“We are sorry, but we lost her.”Amelia screamed at the top of her voice, loudly. It felt like a competition between the both of us.Carl was speechless, he did not hold me when I started moving, and screaming. I saw Amelia's husband hold her, speaking into her ears.We were allowed to walk to the ward, where we saw my daughter's lifeless body.Scarlett was really unmoving, she has never been this way since she was born.“Wake up!” Amelia screamed, Ethan still held her, so did the young girl who came with them to the hospital. We were making so much noise in the hospital premises. A doctor walked in, looked at the scene, then at Amelia, who was on the floor already.&
Luke's POVI did not hit Scarlett that hard, how did she faint? She is pregnant, I forgot to remind myself when the thoughts of hitting her came racing in my head. How did she discover the passcode to my box? It is something I will never tell her, and a code that will take days to digest. When I had first used the code, I wrote the numbers on a paper for future reference, just in case I forgot during the period. Now, what? She had done more than herself by discovering the code and even searching the box and invading my privacy. What hurt more is the fact that I did not finish hiding everything before the arrival of the police. How far can I hide the box? They will always get hold of it after a thorough research in the house. The moment I hit her, she fell to the floor, and I noticed blood flowing f
Amelia's POVMy return back to New York was a peaceful one. The customers and neighbours back in Spain felt a bit bad when I announced my leave to them."Visit us again."The woman who visited the house during our first visit hugged myself and Pamela severally, asking the poor girl to take care of me.We landed in New York late afternoon, I beeped Ethan to come pick us up and take us to the house. I was still mad at him for the statement he made over the phone months ago.Still, I acted like nothing was wrong.Pamela did it again, she went ahead to tell him everything that happened. I was not asleep when he walked into the room that afternoon, almost asleep but not sleeping, the conversation was shifted to hours later. We lived peacefully once again.Pamela resumed her work in the house, as usual. Ve
Scarlett's POVLuke has refused to go to work since the last time he walked in while I cleaned the house. Maybe he did not refuse, I don't know. However, he stayed back at home with me almost every day._and went to Jessica's house most times.I no longer heard Isabella's name from his mouth, all he ever did was scream Jessica's over the phone. And come back to the house with her smell.I still recognized her smell, since the last time I caught them both on the bed, her smell refused to leave my nostrils and I reacted each time I noticed it.Not to Luke, but to myself. That night, he came home drunk, calling the woman's name at the top of his voice.“Get me water.” He commanded, his voice was improper. He talked like he would hit me if I refus
Ethan's POVCoping with staying alone again wasn't so easy that very moment I dropped her off at the airport.I literally cried on my way back home.It wasn't as smooth as I imagined it would go.The men and I fixed a date to see each other at the office, but my illness did not let me go on the supposed day.I woke up weak, and tired. The wall clock stared right in my face, asking me to get ready for work already. But I was too tired, my head was banging, and my body refused to move.I fell back to the bed, wishing for Amelia to return once again and take care of me like I want to be taken care of.We talked severally over the phone, it was almost her time to deliver the babies and according to the plan, she would be in New York very soon.In a few months.&nb
Amelia's POVDays after Scarlett reached out to me, I packed my box in advance for my trip back to Spain.A part of me wanted to stay back with Ethan, feel loved and hang out with him like I always want to. I wanted to be treated nicely before leaving New York, but how was I going to tell him what I wanted?I packed my things, quietly. It was just me at home, I put a call to Pamela the day before to announce my trip to her.“How soon?” She yelled over the phone in excitement.I expected the reaction, she has missed me so much, more than I miss her. I know from the way she called almost every day to ask after my health.“In a few days.” I announced, I wasn't sure of the day — yet. What I did was give her a heads-up on what would happen very soon. Now that I pa
