Serenity watched as Mrs. Lane took one delicious dish after another out of the insulated lunch boxes and placed them on the office table. Then, she looked toward the desserts. She could finish those two small pieces of cake in a bite.

She said, “The cakes are tiny, Mrs. Lane. There’s only one sour prune too. It’ll only worsen my cravings, not satisfy them. It’s too little.”

Grandma May said, “Zack gave Mrs. Lane a special reminder because he was scared you would vomit. He also stressed that I shouldn’t spoil you by letting you eat sour or sweet food. He told me that you even vomited bile this morning.

“You should be content that Mrs. Lane even brought you one sour prune.”
