Lauren's POV I opened my eyes and heard muffled voices coming from somewhere in the room. Lauren's POV Damien was extremely quick to stand up and walk out of the hospital room that I was in after telling me to remain in there and not make a move to leave. “Even if I wanted to, I can’t,” I replied, showing him the IV connected to my hand. “I’m too tired to stand up anyway.” As he slammed the door shut and went out, I turned to Darla who had a worried expression on her face. It got me curious enough to want to know the intensity of the differences between Damien and his brother and how much of a mess they would make out there. “How big of a scene is Jameson making?” I inquired, pulling her out of her mind. “Not nearly as big enough as what will happen when Damien goes out there,” she answered. “He kept asking to see his brother’s wife from the receptionist, and he forbade her from calling the room. He almost forced himself into the elevator.” My brows rose to the sky as I imagined what Damien would be saying to him in that moment.

Lauren's POV “You seem to have heard enough about me,” Jameson said, laughing as I avoided eye contact with him. “What have you heard? Pray tell.” “Get the fuck out of my house right before I do something that we’re both going to regret,” Damien said, taking me towards a couch and placing me down on it. “He’s not going to do anything to you.” “You’re falling in the same trap that father fell into,” Jameson said to Damien. “It’s surprising that you don’t see it. Even if you don’t, it’s distressing that nobody else told you about it. Why didn’t you tell him that the same thing that happened to father—” “Talk about him one more time,” Damien threatened, “and I will not hesitate to kill you.” Jameson tilted his head to the side, chuckling. “I was not there to watch you grow up. Not that any of that is my fault since you didn’t hesitate to throw me in prison when you had the chance. The one thing I’m glad about is that you grew up to be a proper man.

Lauren's POV “I did no such thing,” I denied as I shifted against the armrest of the couch. “Not on purpose, at least.” “From what I heard, just days after your wedding, you were kidnapped and taken away. That put enough stress on him, and as if that was not enough, your death was faked. After that, you came back into his life with a child that you ended up losing after getting shot. “All that happened right after my brother was shot. He was shot because he wanted to step away from the family business, which wanted to do for you.” “I don’t—” “If there’s any part of the story that I got wrong, do let me know.” He smirked at me, knowing that I could not dispute it as untrue. It left me wondering just how much he knew and who had given him that information all so soon. Lauren's POV There was a high chance that I would die at Jameson’s dinner party the more I put my thought into it. For one, I had gone there with his brother, who shared bad blood with him but he still loved enough to warn me about. Lauren's POV Darla had a bullet between her brows, and Jameson was right behind the gun that had killed her, his eyes filled with confusion and realization of what he had just done to his sister. There was so much silence that I was afraid of looking in Damien’s direction. I could feel the anger reeling off of him and rubbing off on me in waves that the only thing I wanted to do was stand up and bolt for the door. “What… What have you done?” I asked, but my voice was stuck in my throat, leaving the words in the air like a whisper in the wind. Lauren's POV I had neither seen nor talked to Damien since he had announced that he would burn everything to the ground with his brother and he locked himself up in the private office in his house. I had fallen asleep in the bedroom while waiting for him to figure out if he was okay, and I found myself still alone in the bedroom when I opened my eyes. “Damien?” I called, rubbing my eyes as I weakly got off the bed and stumbled towards the office to finally knock on the door after putting it off the whole time. “Damien, are you in there? It’s morning,” I announced. It didn’t take much time before he opened the door and stood in front of me with hazy eyes that made me frown in suspicion at the familiar smell of alcohol coming off of him. “You drank,” I stated, still waiting for him to confirm it even when I knew the truth. “I drank.” He nodded. “Are you okay? Hungover? Do you need anything?” I asked as he stepped aside for me to walk in.
