The nurse?
She was a.. spy? Alexander had planted her as a spy? Conner's whispered words hung in the air, and I stand stiff for a while, unaware of how to react. No wonder he had shut me out twice when I was about to ask him to fake the DNA results. He already suspected the nurse. I nod. "I had no idea, I'll be careful next time." Conner straightened his back with a smile. “There will be no next time Mrs. Blackwood. My business with you is finished. All I await now is a positive response about my charity event." I nod curtly, trying to process everything. For Alexander to actually plant a spy.. does it mean he still does not believe my lie? "Of course." I respon to Conner's statement, my voice flat. As I exited the hospital, the bright sunlight that enveloped me was a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing inside me. I walked to the car and entered the back seat, the silence between Alexander and I thick with tension. It seems we were not using the chopper to return.. I dart my gaze around the car awkwardly, having no idea of what to say, but Alexander's voice soon pierced through the deafening silence. "What were you doing in there?" His question caught me off guard and I freeze unsure of how to respond. Alexander arched a brow, his gaze unmoving and fixated on me. "I was.. uh, thanking the doctor!" I stammered. "Y-yes, I was thanking him for having us." Alexander's gaze lingered, his expression skeptical. He knew I was lying, but he didn't press on the issue. It made me wonder why. Instead, he spoke, his voice deep. "I see you were telling the truth about being pregnant." I gulped, nodding wearily. "Yes, I was." "I'll have to be more careful with you then. We don't want you having a miscarriage." His words sent a wave of unease through me. Did he initially plan on doing anything to me that could could cause a miscarriage? I cough slightly and gaze out the window, my hands fumbling with the hem of her dress to stop them from sweating, this was a dangerous path I was threading, Alexander was a dangerous man. "Yes, we definitely do not want a miscarriage.." The silence between him and I returned and this time thicker, but Alexander's voice once again sliced through it. “What do you plan on naming it?" I turned to face him, surprised by his question and a furrow formed between my brows. "Name? I haven't thought about that." Alexander nodded curtly. "I see." His gaze lingered on me, and for a moment, I felt like he saw right through me, through my lie, but I knew I was over thinking for no reason. I awkwardly rest my head against the window, he wouldn't gain anything by playing along either ways. As we arrived at Alexander's residence, the tension between us remained palpable. I stepped out of the car, Alexander's long strides leaving me struggling to keep up. He didn't pay me any heed as usual and walked into the house, but I followed suite, Jarred staying behind just leaning against the car door. Inside.. I gazed up at Alexander as he ascended the stairs and a frown settled between my brows. "You're retiring to bed already?" I asked but Alexander ignored my question, halting mid step to gaze at me over his shoulder. His expression was unreadable, as usual. "That reminds me." He said. “The chefs, cleaners, maids, and other workers will resume tomorrow. You may choose from one of the maids to assist you personally. Once you give birth, you'll resume your chores yourself." My eyes narrowed, irritation surfacing but I don't day a word. "I'll take my leave." Alexander said, disappearing into his room without another glance. I plopped onto the nearest chair, my gaze drifting to the beautiful chandelier above. The soft glow of the crystals seemed to mock me. "This won't do." I whispered to myself, frustration creeping in. How was I supposed to become a renowned socialite, secure Alexander's sponsorship for the charity event, and exact revenge on the Winstons if my key to it all treated me like a ghost? Determination ignited within me. I knew I had to change things. The Next Day.. Victoria's alarm shattered my sleep once more and I immediately make a mental note to reset it. After freshening up, I strolled out to the garden, craving some fresh air. The scent of blooming flowers enveloped me, calming my nerves. As I walked further down the garden path, I heard someone singing, the melodious voice was captivating, and I followed the sound. Soon, a petite brunette lady comes into view, likely one of the new staff members. She was watering the plants, lost in her song. When she spotted me, she immediately dropped the watering can in her hand and lowered her head. "I sincerely apologize if my voice was too loud, I promise not to sing again.” She said, her voice trembling. I approached her, intrigued. "Why would you do that?" I asked, genuine concern etched on my face. The girl looked up at me, her eyes wide. "Sorry, ma'am?" "Why stop singing when you have such a lovely voice?" I repeated, my smile warm. Her cheeks flushed, and she stuttered, "T-thank you." I nodded, taking in her humble demeanor. "What's your name?" The girl's gaze faltered, confusion written across her face. "But you already know my name Mrs. Blackwood.. I'm Layla." I chuckled nervously, of course Victoria must have already been familiar with the staff here. "Of course.” I said, recovering quickly. "I'm not feeling very well, it must have slipped my mind." Layla's expression softened. "Do you want me to make some tea for you? I heard it's soothing." I shook my head, touched by her concern. "No no, thank you. You may continue with what you're doing." As I walked back into the house, I suddenly collide with something hard-Alexander's chest. Flustered, I took a step back and I cleared my throat. "You don't have eyes?" Alexander suddenly speaks and I bit back a retort, reminding myself that I needed to tread carefully. "I have something to discuss with you." I finally speak taking in a deep breath. Alexander slowly arched a brow. "I'm listening."The nurse? She was a.. spy?Alexander had planted her as a spy?Conner's whispered words hung in the air, and I stand stiff for a while, unaware of how to react. The car sped down the highway, its tires screeching in protest as it was now out of control. I was trapped, unable to do anything as the world around me became a blur. Tears streamed down my face as I frantically tried to search for an escape but it was no use. My phone suddenly rang and Kenneth's name flashed on the screen. I hesitated for a bit, my heart racing, before answering. "Kenneth.. Kenneth.. please help us. The brakes.. they're not working.” "Aubrey, my love.” His voice came out gentle yet cold, sending shivers down my spine. “I'm afraid I had to take drastic measures.” "What.. what do you mean?" I stammered, my mind racing with different thoughts. I knew what he was capable of, but he wouldn't go this far, right? ..I did not want to believe that my own husband.. no. But his next words immediately shattered me. "I cut the brakes Aubrey, I had to ensure our little problem went away. You understand, don't you?" He paused, his tone dripping with malice. "You were going to g
~Aubrey The hospital’s room door burst open and a flurry of family members entered, their faces etched with anger and disgust. "You're awake.” My mother in-law, Georgina Winston spat as if it was a crime. "Finally, we can get some answers." I tried to speak, but my voice was still weak. "You killed her, didn't you?" Richard Winston, my husband’s cousin questioned, his voice venomous. "You were always so jealous of Aubrey, and now that she's gone you're satisfied aren't you?!” Janet Winston, my husband's aunt added. I snickered inwardly, a bitter taste in my mouth. Their accusations cut deep, but I knew the truth, this was all a pretence, they didn't love nor care about Aubrey, my past self. They had tolerated her, abused her and now that they must have figured Kenneth was behind the accident, they needed a scapegoat to blame everything on, and who else made the perfect target asides Victoria, the timid wife of Alexander Blackwood who also happened to be the one driving the car
~Aubrey As I'm dragged away in the police car, I feel a wave of despair wash over me. I'm trapped in a living nightmare, with no escape and not only have I been reborn into the life of a mistreated wife, but now I'm being charged with murder. The injustice of it all feels suffocating. As I think about Marilyn's distraught face, tears start to pour down my cheeks. She believes in my innocence and is trying to save me from this nightmare, but she has no idea that I'm actually Aubrey, trapped in Victoria's body. Her loyalty and trust in me only make this situation more heartbreaking. The police car suddenly screeches to a halt right outside the station and I'm dragged out of the car and thrown harshly into a cold, dark cell. I bruise my elbow badly on the concrete floor in the process, but the pain is nothing compared to the anguish in my heart. The police officers snickered. "Can't believe a pretty lady like her is actually a killer.. never judge a book by its cover, huh?" "Yeah, a
Alexander's expression changed from calm to confusion. "Is this some kind of joke to you?" He asked, his voice laced with anger. I shook my head, my heart racing. "I'm serious." But Alexander just laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "You expect me to believe that?” Saying that, he reached for the door handle, ready to throw me out of the car, but I grasped his arm, desperation creeping into my voice. "Wait! Do you really want to loose the heir to your empire?" Alexander's eyes flickered, a hint of uncertainty in their depths. I pressed on, trying to sound more convincing. "We can go see a doctor tomorrow if you wish, and you may confirm if I'm pregnant or not." Alexander's gaze turned cold again. "Even if you were pregnant, how am I sure the baby belongs to me?" I swallowed hard, thinking fast. "We can get yours and the child's DNA tested too." Alexander raised an eyebrow, skeptical, but nodded curtly. He stepped on the accelerator, and soon we arrived at his mansion. The exerior
~AubreyI sat in Conner's office, my heart racing like a wild animal’s as I tried to process his proposal. "So, let me get this straight.” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "You'll help me convince Mr Blackwood that I'm pregnant, but in return, I have to get him to partner with your hospital for a charity event?"Conner nodded. “That's right Mrs Blackwood. I believe you're the only one who can convince him, he's your husband after all.”I could only scoff inwardly at his sentence. But just as I was about to respond, the door suddenly burst open and Jarred walked in, his eyes fixated on me. “Mrs. Blackwood.” He said, his voice an intrusion into the tense atmosphere.I felt a jolt of surprise, my heart skipping a beat in slight fear. What was he doing here?Conner's expression on the other hand didn't change, but I sensed a flicker of irritation. "Ah, Mr Jarred? perfect timing, we were just discussing about Mrs Blackwood’s ultrasound."Jarred's eyes narrowed, his gaze lingering o
"Aubrey.. my wife.. you killed her, you fucking killed her!" I hear Kenneth speak and I finally release the breath that I had been unconsciously holding in. So he doesn't know..I see his fake tears flow out easily like a well rehearsed performance and I am instantly repulsed by how good his acting was. If I hadn't discovered his secret, I would have still believed he was the loving, innocent and caring husband he played as.Georgina suddenly swooped in, comforting her son with a gentle touch before her eyes locked onto mine, casting me an angry and disgusted look. "Can you see how much pain he's going through because of you? You're the reason my darling Kenneth lost his beautiful wife!”I scoff, now that I'm dead she finally remembers to give me a compliment. What happened to ragamuffin? wretched girl? Four eyed bitch?“And how in the world did you even get out of jail?!” Georgina asks, now realising. My gaze drifts to Alexander, wondering if he'd reveal himself as my benefactor, a
Reality finally hits me at that moment. I had been so relived with the fact that I was able to fake the pregnancy test that I had totally forgotten about the DNA.“I didn't remember it, I'll go back to the hospital tomorrow.” I speak and Alexander slowly rises from the chair, and only now did I realise how insanely tall this man was. His dark suite accentuated his broad shoulders and toned chest well, his hair slightly dishevelled, rested some inches just above his dark orbs.As he took some steps closer, his height only became even more intimidating and I gulped, but I stood my ground and didn't move an inch back wards, instead I stared straight into his dark eyes.As if understanding that I was trying my best not to feel intimated, a slight smirk crawled to the corner of his perfectly shaped lip. This was the closest to a smile I had seen him done, my past life and now.His smirk was both alluring and unsettling, and it made my palms grow slightly cold in fear. I searched his eyes,
