The old lady placed a gentle hand on her grandson's shoulder, her expression soothing. "That's all in the past, now let's get back to our dinner."
Lionel's face twisted in frustration. “How can you be so calm grandma? He's the one who made you loose your shop!” The old lady smiled faintly. "Even if we bring it up dear, what will be done? Will it change anything? or do you believe we could win a court case against Mr. Blackwood?" Lionel's scowl deepened, but he did not say anything else, his fists just quietly clenched by his sides. ~Aubrey My attention soon shifted to little Kiya, who excitedly skipped towards me with her doll. "This is Victoria, but I call her Pink Vickie!" I smiled, taking the doll from her. "Pink Vickie? But what's the 'Pink' for?" Kiya giggled, her eyes sparkling. "It's because her hair is pink!" I mouthed an 'O' and smiled. "I see." Just then, Alexander's deep voice cut through the warmth. "Drop the kid and go to bed, you're already carrying one in your tummy, isn't that enough?" I rolled my eyes. "You can't order me around." Alexander arched an eyebrow. "Go to bed." His voice brooked no argument. I shot him a glare before reluctantly handing Kiya back to her grandmother. He really had no joy. As I walked towards the sofa, I felt the other side of the sofa sink in and I turn to see Alexander, but he ignored me, shutting his eyes closed. Before long, exhaustion claimed me, and I yawned before drifting off to sleep. Soon after, Alexander slowly opened his eyes and he turned to face Jarred sitted on the opposite couch."Keep a close watch. I don't trust these people." Jarred nodded, his face void of emotion. "Yes sir." Alexander's eyes lingered on Jarred for a moment before he, too, closed his eyes. The Next Morning.. ~Aubrey My eyes slowly fluttered open, my mind a mess. My vision once a blur began to steady itself and I finally realise that I was in Alexander's house. How did I get here? I rub my temple and groggily swing my legs over the side of the bed and stood, surveying the room. What about the old lady and her family? Had we left without telling them? I made my way downstairs and I see Alexander sitted in the living room, already dressed, his aura imposing. His gaze suddenly met mine, and for a moment, I forgot my surroundings. How does he grow more breathtaking each day? I immediately shake off the thought, focusing on my parched throat. Coffee. I needed coffee. As I headed towards the kitchen, Alexander's voice soon halted me. "Leave whatever you're doing, let's go." I turned, wondering if he was addressing me and I see his eyes locked onto mine, he was indeed talking to me. "Us? Go where?" My voice came out husky from sleep. Alexander rose from his seat. "Where else? To the hospital." My eyes widened. "We're still taking the DNA test?!" The yell escaped before I could contain it and I coughed, lowering my voice. "But the old lady.. she confirmed I was pregnant." Alexander's gaze pierced mine, his expression unreadable. "Let us go." My heart skipped a beat. Even after everything, he still wanted to get a DNA test done? I look up to see his eyes still on me, his commanding presence left me breathless. I knew he was waiting for me to make a mistake and reveal any sign of untruthfulness, but I knew better and I steeled myself, ready to face whatever laid ahead. As I trailed behind Alexander, I couldn't help but suddenly feel self-conscious about what I currently had on. I was still in my pink bathrobe, with my nightgown underneath, Alexander on the other hand looked impeccable in his tailored suit. God, this was embarrassing! "Alexander, wait!" I called out, tugging at my robe's sash. "I'm not exactly dressed for—" Alexander halted, turning to gaze at me over his shoulder. "Do you want me to repeat myself?" His tone was laced with impatience. I bit my lip, reminding myself that my mission was to gain his support, not anger him and so I quietly followed him out of the house. We walked towards a sleek black chopper perched in the middle of the large compound. The noise was deafening, but Jarred stood beside it, unfazed by the noise nor the sharp blades rotating. Who exactly was this guy? Alexander handed me a headset as we boarded the chopper, I put it on and the chopper soon took off, soaring into the sky. Some minutes later, we landed on the roof of The Langley's Hospital, the speed not even allowing me process my thoughts well. As we entered the hospital, people gawked at us. They all shot me nasty looks, but when their gaze fell on Alexander, it'd turn to admiration. I ignored them, focusing on the task at hand. In the VIP sector, we met Conner, who greeted Alexander with a nod. "Right on time Mr. Blackwood." He then smiled at me. "It's nice to see you again, Mrs. Blackwood." I returned a wary smile, and Conner led us into a room. As I lay on the bed, my mind began to wander and Alexander's voice soon snapped me back to reality. "Scared?" I shook my head. "No." He smiled faintly, barely noticeable if you didn't look close enough, and I wondered what he had up his sleeve. Alexander left the room, and so did I and later I was called back in, and I see a nurse already preparing the equipments. Seizing the opportunity, I tried to beg Conner to fake the DNA test, but he cut me off mid-sentence. "The procedure will begin now, Mrs. Blackwood." My heart sank. I was screwed. After the test, I walked into the waiting room where Alexander and Jarred were situated and I take in a deep breath knowing that I was about to face the consequences of my own actions, but what I heard Conner say next took me completely off guard. "The DNA matches perfectly Mr. Blackwood. The child is yours." Alexander nodded curtly, his gaze locking onto mine but I stood frozen, shocked by Conner's words. Alexander didn't say a word before turning to leave. Conner on the other hand leaned in close to my ear, his voice low. "Next time, do not call me out so much when I'm working Mrs. Blackwood, or else you want your husband's spy to strip me of my job." My eyes widened. Was he talking about..?The nurse? She was a.. spy?Alexander had planted her as a spy?Conner's whispered words hung in the air, and I stand stiff for a while, unaware of how to react. No wonder he had shut me out twice when I was about to ask him to fake the DNA results. He already suspected the nurse.I nod. "I had no idea, I'll be careful next time."Conner straightened his back with a smile. “There will be no next time Mrs. Blackwood. My business with you is finished. All I await now is a positive response about my charity event."I nod curtly, trying to process everything. For Alexander to actually plant a spy.. does it mean he still does not believe my lie?"Of course." I respon to Conner's statement, my voice flat.As I exited the hospital, the bright sunlight that enveloped me was a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing inside me. I walked to the car and entered the back seat, the silence between Alexander and I thick with tension. It seems we were not using the chopper to return..I dart my gaze ar

The car sped down the highway, its tires screeching in protest as it was now out of control. I was trapped, unable to do anything as the world around me became a blur. Tears streamed down my face as I frantically tried to search for an escape but it was no use. My phone suddenly rang and Kenneth's name flashed on the screen. I hesitated for a bit, my heart racing, before answering. "Kenneth.. Kenneth.. please help us. The brakes.. they're not working.” "Aubrey, my love.” His voice came out gentle yet cold, sending shivers down my spine. “I'm afraid I had to take drastic measures.” "What.. what do you mean?" I stammered, my mind racing with different thoughts. I knew what he was capable of, but he wouldn't go this far, right? ..I did not want to believe that my own husband.. no. But his next words immediately shattered me. "I cut the brakes Aubrey, I had to ensure our little problem went away. You understand, don't you?" He paused, his tone dripping with malice. "You were going to g
~Aubrey The hospital’s room door burst open and a flurry of family members entered, their faces etched with anger and disgust. "You're awake.” My mother in-law, Georgina Winston spat as if it was a crime. "Finally, we can get some answers." I tried to speak, but my voice was still weak. "You killed her, didn't you?" Richard Winston, my husband’s cousin questioned, his voice venomous. "You were always so jealous of Aubrey, and now that she's gone you're satisfied aren't you?!” Janet Winston, my husband's aunt added. I snickered inwardly, a bitter taste in my mouth. Their accusations cut deep, but I knew the truth, this was all a pretence, they didn't love nor care about Aubrey, my past self. They had tolerated her, abused her and now that they must have figured Kenneth was behind the accident, they needed a scapegoat to blame everything on, and who else made the perfect target asides Victoria, the timid wife of Alexander Blackwood who also happened to be the one driving the car
~Aubrey As I'm dragged away in the police car, I feel a wave of despair wash over me. I'm trapped in a living nightmare, with no escape and not only have I been reborn into the life of a mistreated wife, but now I'm being charged with murder. The injustice of it all feels suffocating. As I think about Marilyn's distraught face, tears start to pour down my cheeks. She believes in my innocence and is trying to save me from this nightmare, but she has no idea that I'm actually Aubrey, trapped in Victoria's body. Her loyalty and trust in me only make this situation more heartbreaking. The police car suddenly screeches to a halt right outside the station and I'm dragged out of the car and thrown harshly into a cold, dark cell. I bruise my elbow badly on the concrete floor in the process, but the pain is nothing compared to the anguish in my heart. The police officers snickered. "Can't believe a pretty lady like her is actually a killer.. never judge a book by its cover, huh?" "Yeah, a
Alexander's expression changed from calm to confusion. "Is this some kind of joke to you?" He asked, his voice laced with anger. I shook my head, my heart racing. "I'm serious." But Alexander just laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "You expect me to believe that?” Saying that, he reached for the door handle, ready to throw me out of the car, but I grasped his arm, desperation creeping into my voice. "Wait! Do you really want to loose the heir to your empire?" Alexander's eyes flickered, a hint of uncertainty in their depths. I pressed on, trying to sound more convincing. "We can go see a doctor tomorrow if you wish, and you may confirm if I'm pregnant or not." Alexander's gaze turned cold again. "Even if you were pregnant, how am I sure the baby belongs to me?" I swallowed hard, thinking fast. "We can get yours and the child's DNA tested too." Alexander raised an eyebrow, skeptical, but nodded curtly. He stepped on the accelerator, and soon we arrived at his mansion. The exerior
~AubreyI sat in Conner's office, my heart racing like a wild animal’s as I tried to process his proposal. "So, let me get this straight.” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "You'll help me convince Mr Blackwood that I'm pregnant, but in return, I have to get him to partner with your hospital for a charity event?"Conner nodded. “That's right Mrs Blackwood. I believe you're the only one who can convince him, he's your husband after all.”I could only scoff inwardly at his sentence. But just as I was about to respond, the door suddenly burst open and Jarred walked in, his eyes fixated on me. “Mrs. Blackwood.” He said, his voice an intrusion into the tense atmosphere.I felt a jolt of surprise, my heart skipping a beat in slight fear. What was he doing here?Conner's expression on the other hand didn't change, but I sensed a flicker of irritation. "Ah, Mr Jarred? perfect timing, we were just discussing about Mrs Blackwood’s ultrasound."Jarred's eyes narrowed, his gaze lingering o
"Aubrey.. my wife.. you killed her, you fucking killed her!" I hear Kenneth speak and I finally release the breath that I had been unconsciously holding in. So he doesn't know..I see his fake tears flow out easily like a well rehearsed performance and I am instantly repulsed by how good his acting was. If I hadn't discovered his secret, I would have still believed he was the loving, innocent and caring husband he played as.Georgina suddenly swooped in, comforting her son with a gentle touch before her eyes locked onto mine, casting me an angry and disgusted look. "Can you see how much pain he's going through because of you? You're the reason my darling Kenneth lost his beautiful wife!”I scoff, now that I'm dead she finally remembers to give me a compliment. What happened to ragamuffin? wretched girl? Four eyed bitch?“And how in the world did you even get out of jail?!” Georgina asks, now realising. My gaze drifts to Alexander, wondering if he'd reveal himself as my benefactor, a
