Chapter 23

(Emily’s POV).

“You’re home!” I greeted him with a smile.

He walked in with a spring in his step, his suit neatly pressed, his face free of the usual signs of stress that I had seen after a long day. I wondered what had happened to get him so excited.

I followed him into the bedroom, where he began to change his suit. As he took off his tie and threw it on the chair, I couldn't help but ask, “You look great. Are you sure you're not tired?”

Mike threw me a smile bright enough to light up the room.

“I’m not tired at all,” he said, while putting on more comfortable clothes. “In fact, all my tiredness seems to disappear as soon as I see you.”

I felt my cheeks warm up at his words, and I hurriedly tried to offer him some food.

“Well, if you're hungry, I can cook something for you.”

He shook his head with a chuckle. “I appreciate the offer, but I think we can go out for dinner instead. I don’t want you to get tired or do too much activity. Didn’t I tell you that from the beginning, Emily?”
