Three days had passed and Jane found herself in front of a long length mirror as she admired the white wedding dress which fitted snugly around her torso and flowed down elegantly. The dress was stunning and even though she had zero input in how the dress turned out, Jane was hardly disappointed.
Her father stood behind her, holding a cigarette in his hand. He discarded it on the floor and approached her. “I’m sure you’re gonna be happy kiddo. They’ll treat ya well,” he said, feeling no remorse for the position he had put her in. Jane completely ignored her father as she stared at her figure, her anxiety and anger building up. “Come on, let’s go,” he said, holding out his hands towards her. Jane disregarded this gesture and turned to walk towards the large hall where all the guests waited eagerly, still not saying a word to her father. The doors opened and a tune filled the room as her father led her down the aisle towards her doom. Liam stood at the altar, clad in a tailored white suit and looked as ravishing as he always did. Jane turned her head as she caught him staring at her, unintentionally making eye contact with Liam's mother who was next to the woman that had walked into his office three days ago. Both women stared daggers at Jane while other guests, especially Liam's father, looked happy and eager as paparazzis took photos of her. Jane had to make a conscious effort to ignore the two women who were scowling at her as she carefully walked towards the altar, her father next to her. Reaching the altar, Liam took her hands, his grasp firm but gentle. Jane felt her skin begin to crawl from the close proximity. The priest rambled on words and she heard herself repeating it, barely meaning any of it and saw Liam do the same. “You may kiss the bride,” The priest said, a small smile set on his lips as he stared at the couple. Jane turned her head to protest but in an instant, Liam held her face and brought her lips to his, his firm but soft lips landing gently on hers. Cheers and claps filled the room as both of them separated but Jane's eyes were wide in shock and disbelief which Liam simply ignored. The day went by in a blur and soon Jane found herself in a limousine with Liam as he rapidly typed on his phone, completely disregarding her. “Why did you do that?” She asked finally, still reeling from the kiss. Liam abruptly stopped typing and turned to her, his expression annoyed, “Do what?” He asked. She looked up at him, determined, “You kissed me, Liam. I would appreciate it if you respected my choice and never did that again?!” She harshly whispered, shooting him an annoyed glance. “Don’t be dumb, D****e. That meant nothing and our families' gazes and cameras were pointed at us. You’d need to do better to try to convince them,” he said, turning away from her, “Plus, our contract says I have every right to do so when necessary,” he finished. Jane mentally scolded herself for being silly and underestimating Liam’s cunning, of course his despicable being was going to include such a clause in the contract she had been so annoyed to finish reading. Deciding to hold her tongue, Jane turned her gaze to the window and admired the view as the car drove past. ~~~~ It was officially a week after her wedding to Liam and Jane had relished her last moments of freedom at home. This time around, clothes were strewn across the room and Jane rushed frantically, trying to pack up her bags and head to the airport. The day of their family trip had finally arrived and Jane couldn’t be less ecstatic. A villa filled with his immediate family where she had to play house didn’t seem too exciting to Jane but she felt pretty determined that day. Jane had decided that she was going to do as she was told and wait for the perfect opportunity to strike. Despite that, she focused on packing up her bags and tidying up the room in her small home. She grabbed her bags and rushed out the door, locking it behind her and entering the car that was sent by Liam. The car pulled out and headed directly to the airport. After a few minutes, Jane had checked in her bags and walked quickly towards the area Liam was standing waiting for her impatiently. “You need to work on your time management, D****e, I’m not waiting around for you next time,” he said, a scowl on his face. “Oh please, Liam, ten minutes of your time surely won’t kill you,” she retorted back, walking past him. Together, they boarded Liam West's private jet and Jane felt a surge of nervousness fill her as she anticipated the journey ahead. The sound of alarm blared in the small, bright room occupied by a young woman. She turned and dropped her brush on the table before walking over to her bed to turn the alarm off. Jane was less enthusiastic about the new day, she had woken up earlier than her alarm and rushed to get ready for work. The whole office had been preparing for this day because apparently, the boss was back in town. The workload from previous days was weighing heavily on her shoulders and she quietly cursed this boss of hers. Jane was still new to West&Co, having started work just a few months ago. She had never met her boss, but stories from her coworkers already fostered a strong dislike towards him. They had talked about how he was precise with everything, and the extra work that had to be done for his arrival. Letting out an exhausted sigh, she sat down on her dresser chair and combed her hair before putting it in a tight bun. She stared at herself in the mirror and forced a tight lipped smile.
“You!” Liam sneered, his finger jabbing accusingly at Jane. Jane's cheeks flushed, and she turned to look away, trying to pretend Liam wasn’t talking to her. The applause died down, and the room’s occupants looked around, trying to figure out who Liam was addressing. Liam took steady strides towards Jane, his eyes fixed intently at her. Everyone watched as he approached her, the sound of his shoes hitting the ground ricocheting. Finally next to her, he looked down at Jane, a cunning grin still on his face as he reached out and snatched her ID. “Jane Dreame?!” He mumbled, his voice low and menacing. Turning his head, to address the room, he demanded, “Who hired her?” Mark, Jane's boss, looked around before answering, confusion written across his face, “I…I did, Mr. West,” he stammered. “She’s fired! Get her out of my building,” Liam said, his voice cold. He turned and walked away without batting an eye. “What?! You can’t fire me!” Jane shrieked. “Actually, I can,” he said
Jane clutched her black purse as she tried to control her breathing. She sat in the back seat of the taxi she had booked, which headed towards the party venue. After a few minutes, the driver announced that they had reached their destination, she got down and the taxi drove away. She looked up and gazed at the imposing, grand building in front of her. Jane gasped, she knew her father must’ve sold her to some wealthy family, but she had no idea how rich they might be. This increased the fear that she was being married off to some pot bellied old man who played poker and bet in underground bars just like her father and Jane felt a chill run through her spine. She walked up to the security post and showed them the invitation her father had sent her. The guards opened the gates, granting her entry. The yard was huge, showcasing immaculately manicured lawns, complemented by the grand building and perfectly laid stone pathways. She strolled quietly, taking in the breathtaking surround
The sounds of music and chatters of the guests continued to fill the air as everyone danced and mingled with one another. Jane decided to excuse herself and step away from the crowd, as she began to feel overwhelmed and her head began to throb. Slipping into the kitchen, Jane poured herself a glass of water and took a sip. The kitchen was quieter and it was empty. Without warning, Liam’s mother stormed into the kitchen, seizing Jane’s hand in a painful grip, her fingers digging into Jane's skin. “I know your type,” she sneered, her eyes narrowing at Jane, “Desperate for love and money and somehow you’ve got your clutches on my innocent son,” she spat. “Ma’am, you’re hurting me,” Jane simply said, maintaining her expression as she addressed his mother. She knew she had nothing to say as his mother was partially correct and she had no intention of exchanging words with the woman that raised someone as despicable as Liam. “Call off this damn engagement and leave my son alone.
