Amelia’s POV

Megan snickered. “Brunch is not a reason, babe. That’s an excuse.”

“Whatever,” I huffed, falling back onto the pillows. “I hate this. I don’t even know what I’m supposed to be doing. My dad just threw me into this with no warning. And to make it worse, I have to work with Audrey. Can you imagine?”

Tina raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. “Oh right, your sister. How’s that gonna go?”

I let out a dramatic sigh. “Terribly, obviously. Audrey’s been obsessed with this company since forever. She actually wants to work there. She’s going to be all serious and bossy and expect me to care, and I’m just… not.”

Sara flopped onto the bed beside me, staring up at the ceiling. “So what are you going to do? Just sit at your desk and play on your phone all day?”

“I wish,” I muttered. “But no. My dad’s going to be breathing down my neck, making sure I actually do something productive. He’s probably going to stick me with a ton of boring paperwork or something.”

Tina laughed. “Can you e

But I’ll be home later, and we can spend the evening together. Maybe we can go out to dinner or watch a movie. Whatever you want.”“Okay,” I said, still pouting a little but knowing he had responsibilities to attend to. “I guess I’ll survive without you for a few hours.”“This is so unlike you. You hate me,” he said as I rolled my eyes.“After what happened last night, I might want to change my mind on this. M

Amelia’s POVAudrey did her best to remain silent as she riffed through the papers they gave her to hold.“You know, in this company there are policies that simply cannot be taken lightly and this requires someone who actually knows what they are doing.”Her whole focus was on me now, her lips clenched in irritation as she pushed away from the desk. She walked to where my legs reclined on a polished wooden surface, said nothing, and booted my feet off her desk. I don’t think I had a chance to do anything before my legs were dangling at the armrest of the chair, and my body was shaking from where she thrust it.“Well Amelia, what do you demand?” she asked me without hiding her irritation and the royal dislike expressed in her voice.I smiled and thought of the best witty remark to say in return which I never did because I was struck by the realization that I was now fully immersed in this stupid job. “Say that again? Well, good morning to you too, sis.”Thus she folded her arms on her

Amelia’s POV Claire’s eyes flickered with something—interest, perhaps. “Ah, so this isn’t just about the company.”I narrowed my eyes at her. “It’s about my life. My future. I’m not going to let her take everything from me.”“What are you talking about? You seem to be having more of a personal strife.”I sighed. “How about you leave me alone to help myself in this shithole? How about that?”Claire moved closer, her heels clicking softly against the floor. She stopped just a few feet away from me, her eyes studying me intently. “Amelia, let me give you some advice. In this world, no one gives you anything. You have to take it.”Her words hung in the air between us, and for a moment, I wasn’t sure what to make of her. She was a board member, part of the establishment that I despised, but there was something about her that intrigued me. She wasn’t like the others. She wasn’t here to coddle me or play nice. She was telling me exactly what I wanted to hear.It was almost like she was on m

Audrey’s POV I tried my best to not lose my mind and even when it was failing, I was surely holding back my rage.“Amelia,” I said in a firm but measured voice, “this is not just about profits or benefits. It’s about staying true to the company’s direction. Merging with other companies can mess that up.”She rolled her eyes, completely unperturbed by my words. “Oh come on, Audrey. You just fear change. You always have been. But if we want to grow, change is necessary.”I opened my mouth to respond, but before I could, Claire Devereux, one of the board’s most influential members, spoke. “Amelia,” she insisted, eyes narrowing in Amelia’s way, “this is no time for small talk. If you want to contribute to this conversation, I suggest you take it seriously.”I appreciated Claire’s intervention, but Amelia didn’t back down. Instead, she turned her attention to Claire, her face hardened. “And who are you to tell me what to do?” Amelia replied, contempt flowing through her voice. “You’re jus

Amelia’s POV Claire chuckled, crossing her arms in return as she leaned against the counter. “That little confrontation was part of the plan. You’re new here, Amelia. If you walked into the boardroom acting like you owned the place from day one, they’d all turn against you. You don’t have the experience, the reputation, or the leverage to pull that off yet. But if we make them think you and I are at odds, that we’re not working together, they’ll lower their guard.”I blinked, momentarily stunned by the shift in her demeanor. “You’re saying you embarrassed me on purpose?”“Embarrassed you? No, no. I created a distraction,” Claire said smoothly. “They’ll see me as someone who’s not on your side, as someone who’s going to challenge you every step of the way. And you? You’ll be seen as someone who’s still figuring things out. It buys us time, Amelia. Time to plan, time to strategize.”I felt the anger bubbling inside me begin to dissipate, replaced by confusion and a begrudging sense of

Amelia’s POV Audrey’s expression didn’t change. She was as composed as ever, but I could see the flicker of annoyance in her eyes. “That’s exactly the problem, Amelia. You don’t care. You’ve been handed this opportunity, and you’re treating it like a game. This is a business, our father’s legacy, and you’re a nuisance to everyone who’s trying to keep it running.”“Spare me the speech, Audrey,” I shot back, standing up straighter and meeting her gaze. “You think you’re the only one who knows how to run this company? You think just because you’ve been here longer, you’re more entitled to everything? I could do just as well as you, if I wanted to. But unlike you, I have other things I’m focused on.”Her eyes narrowed slightly as she crossed her arms, mirroring my stance. “Is that what you tell yourself? That you could be in charge if you actually cared enough to try? The truth is, Amelia, you’ve never had to work for anything in your life. You think everything will just fall into your l

Stephanie’s povI paced back and forth in my bedroom, my heels clicking on the polished floor as thoughts wandered through my mind. I couldn't believe Eric was still doing this to me. I had tried begging and begging but he had ignored me like I had not asked for something important.Despite our many years together, he still insisted that it was his precious daughter, Audrey, who deserved his inheritance. Amelia and I had been patient, expecting him to change, but time was not on our side and it seemed like he had a lot of time to live. I didn’t want to kill him but he was forcing my hands. I was pretending to be a faithful wife, and still saw nothing in return. This had to end. There had to be a way to take something from him without actually killing him.I picked up my phone and dialed Vanessa's number. She was an old college friend—a passionate lawyer with a knack for turning impossible cases into triumphs. When the phone rang, I tapped my finger on my arm, a sense of urgency pres

Plant seeds of doubt in his mind about Audrey’s abilities, maybe make it clear that Amelia and you are the ones capable of stepping up.”My mind raced as she spoke. “And… what if that doesn’t push him to change his will?”Vanessa shrugged, her expression unwavering. “Then there’s always the option of arranging for someone to ‘influence’ the paperwork itself.”I thought about it for a while before agreeing on the good part. I would let nature run its course.I then got out of the office and ran out as I started heading for a restaurant.I then called Amelia to join me as I needed to talk to her.*** I was already seated at a corner table, stirring my coffee when I saw Amelia stride through the doors, her expression a mix of annoyance and boredom. She spotted me, gave a small nod, and headed over, sliding into the seat across from me.“Mother,” she said, not quite a greeting, but close enough.“Amelia,” I replied, trying to

Author’s povThe police quickly surrounded Daniel, cuffing him as he groaned on the floor. Blood trickled from his nose, and his face was twisted in anger and humiliation.“You’ll regret this, Xander!” Daniel spat, glaring up at his brother.Xander leaned down, his expression calm but firm. “Regret? That’s something you should feel for all the lives you’ve ruined. It’s over, Daniel.”As Daniel struggled against his restraints, the head of police stepped forward. He pulled out a list of charges and began reading them aloud.“Daniel Clarkson, you are being charged with the following: the kidnapping of Mrs. Wright, the attempted murder of Xander Clarkson, embezzlement from your family’s company, obstruction of justice, and numerous other crimes. You’ll be facing a long time in prison.”Daniel’s face contorted with rage. “None of it is true!” he shouted. “This is a setup! You’re all working against me!”“Your corrupt cop was also seen running off and right now he’s willing to testify agai

Author’s povMrs. Wright sat in the dark room, straining her ears for the movements of her captors. It had been a few hours since they taken her from her old place and brought her to this new place, hours marked by terror and solitude and confusion. But something inside had changed that night. Something told her she couldn’t be captive anymore. With newfound resolve, Mrs. Wright steeled herself and tiptoed to the door. The house was still; her captors didn’t suspect a thing when they had gone to bed earlier. Mrs. Wright cautiously unlocked the door, afraid of its creaking as she turned the knob to let herself out into the night air that was cool and freeing. She was done hiding. This time, she was going to save herself. The road stretched before her was infinite in the dark. She knew that with each step she took away from her prison it was another opportunity to get to her son and get out a solution. Her heart was beating both in fear and anticipation of the worst. • Married To His CEO Brother   CHAPTER 136

Daniel’s povI stormed out of his office, hot blood rushed through my veins. How dare he? Who the hell does this man think he is? Some kind of a superhero coming to ‘save’ the company. He was going too far and asking too much. I got out of the company and headed for my car as I sat down there and leaned back in it. I was so angry I couldn’t hold myself back.My hands gripped tightly around my steering wheel; those knuckles were all white as if they were screaming ‘help!’ in some invisible way. In anger, I punched my steering wheel a couple of times before leaning back in my seat.I then turned the ignition and drove directly to the warehouse where I had everything under control—my men, my operations, and my future. It was a sanctuary of sorts for me, a place where I could reorganize my thoughts and plans without any distractions or disturbances. A couple of my men were already there when I arrived. They all stood up as soon as they saw me enter, feeling the unrest radiating off me. “

Audrey’s povI clearly remembered the drive to the cabin that morning. I’d driven so slowly, looking in the rearview mirror every few seconds to make sure I wasn’t being followed. The streets had been practically empty, but everything had felt still and foreboding because of it. When I had gotten to the place, I had parked a few hundred meters from the cabin itself, hiding my car behind some trees before continuing on foot. The closer I got to the cabin, the more uneasy I felt. Something was very wrong. The place looked abandoned—deserted—but it wasn’t just that. It was something else; something I couldn't explain.“Mrs wright?” I asked while staying at the door and knocking. I hoped no one would bash my head in as I opened it inwards as it groaned under my hand as I gave it a push so I could step inside. The sight that met my eyes made my stomach plummet. The entire cabin was in shambles. Furniture was flipped over, papers were strewn across the floor, and a faint acrid smell wafted

Xander’s povI sat in my office, the door closed behind me as I went through the financial reports once more. My anger simmered beneath the surface. It was bad enough that the company was in such a state, but the audacity of the board to act like nothing was wrong infuriated me. My father had worked too hard to build this company, and I wasn’t about to let it crumble under their watch—or Daniel’s.Just as I was contemplating my next move, there was a sharp knock on the door. Before I could answer, one of the board members stepped in, closing the door behind him. He was an older man, someone who had been with the company for decades, yet his face now looked pale and nervous.“Mr. Xander,” he started, his voice shaking, “I need to talk to you.”I reclined back in my chair, signaling for him to continue. “What is it?” I questioned, but I already knew he didn’t come here to help me with anything but to stress me.The man hesitated, and then he leaned forward a little. “I think you should

Xander’s povI was in my company office gazing at the files lying on my table. My secretary had compiled every possible document pertaining to the financial record of the company and I was growing more angry after going through it. How was it not tallying? Who drew this large amount of money, the supporting bills and receipts were in no record?I could see lots of money being removed from the company but there was no mention of them being used for the company again. Why was this a thing?I called for my assistance as she appeared before me.“Is this all?” I asked as she nodded.“Yes, Mr. Xander. I think this is all there is available in the system…”“You think?” I interrupted her as she gulped.“It is all I could find in the system.”I leaned back in my chair and drummed my fingers on my desk. “This doesn’t make any sense… Someone has been withdrawing money at absurd rates recently, and with no record of what it’s being used for? How the hell does that work?”She didn’t answer, but sh

Daniel’s povI smiled after hearing his voice. Xander, always so easy to rile up. “Calm down, baby brother,” I scoffed. Taking another sip of my drink as I got to my feet to face him. “I was merely conversing with her. No need to get your knickers in a twist.”He stepped closer, glowering. “I said, stay away from her.”I saluted him sarcastically and stepped back a pace or two. “Okay, okay. Chill out if it bothers you so much.”As I walked away, I glanced back at Xander over my shoulder. “You should really learn to relax,” I drawled, mocking him as much as possible. “It’s bad for your health, all this stress you carry around.”Walking through the doors out of the pool area with self-satisfaction rolling off me in waves, I didn’t care about Xander and his anger. Not when they were both going to be defeated very soon.Back in my room, I poured myself another drink and stared out the window. It was a clear blue night with stars in the sky, but I wasn’t looking at the sky or the stars or

Daniel’s povLola’s body went rigid and her face turned a shade of red that clashed horribly with her hair. “Audrey?” she screeched.“Yes,” I said, nodding. “Why would she do this to me?”I shrugged. “I don’t know. But she must have seen that maybe Xander was looking at you a certain way and she just wanted you out of the equation.”Lola laughed cynically, and shook her head. “Audrey is going to regret this.” She said, “She honestly believes that nobody is going to stop her? For real.”I said nothing, just letting her stew. If nothing else, getting angry at Audrey took her mind off what had happened. "Wow, you look like hell," I said, taking a step back from the chart."Gee, really? How would you have guessed?" she snapped and rolled her eyes at me.I smirked, leaning against the wall. “You’re lucky to be alive, you know.”Her glare seemed to darken at my words. “If your people were competent at making sure no harm came to you and I, this wouldn’t have happened in the first place!”

Audrey’s pov“No,” I said, just as firmly. “But we can’t do anything stupid either. Any wrong step in this thing and it could throw us all over the edge. We just found her, let’s be careful and tail her for a while while trying to know what’s going on.”He gave a long heavy sigh and rubbed his fingers across his forehead. His eyes looked miserable because he knew I was right."Let's think this through," I said softly, resting my hand on his arm. "We'll find a solution for her. But we have to do it right."Reluctantly, he nodded, but his shoulders drooped in defeat. "Okay," he whispered. "But we need to hurry. I don't think she can last much longer."I nodded with both relief and determination. ***Daniel’s povI was in the car already heading to the house when I got a call from my men. “Boss, we have a problem.”“What is it?” I growled while clutching the wheel.“Mrs. Wright brought a stranger into the house she is hiding in, and now that we’ve arrived, the person is gone.”I frowne
