Ali's eyes widened in horror. Her shoulders slumped and if Wood didn't catch her in time she would have fallen to the ground. His words put a heavy boulder on her heart and she felt suffocated and despaired.
"Like how long," She asked, her voice trembling.
"At most 3 days. There is no time left, I'll see what I can do to prepare the necessary. In the meantime, get half the amount. I can only help this much, I have a lot to handle right now. I am sorry," he sympathized with her before turning and leaving.
Ali felt grateful, he was helping her even though he had a lot on his plate. But his words were like a death sentence to not only her brother but herself.
Five million? Where will she get half of that amount? Her mother's property was still under investigation as Lucas was dragging its ownership with her.
She took out her phone and made a few phone calls. All through the night, she called people to borrow money. But the amount gathered didn't even get to half the amount the doctor suggested.
The next morning, she went to see the marketing director for the advanced payment and loan she requested. Even though she was very desperate, the man refused to help her unless she scumbled to his demands.
Ali wondered how people could be inconsiderate to the plight of others. The director had no shame in asking her to be his mistress. In her heart she wondered if it was a crime to look beautiful.
Ever since her college days, men had always ogled at her and stalked her, half of the men were always shameless and crude with her. Even her fellow women made things difficult for her.
She left the company, feeling angry and resentful while silently swearing to the third heavens to deal with the man should she get a chance of revenge.
Her next option was the bank.
She had applied for a loan from the bank a long time ago, but it was for something else. Now she didn't have any other option but to divert the money for her brother's medical bills.
"Ma'am, this is very urgent. My brother has only 48 hours to live. Please help me, this is my only hope," Ali pleaded, even going as far as to kneel before the woman.
"I'm sorry we can't help right now. We are not giving out loans as of now because we have a serious problem to take care of. And secondly, this property you are using as collateral is not under your name," the woman replied, not sympathetic in the slightest.
"What do you mean, ma'am? This villa was left for my brother by my mother," Ali argued.
Her mom had given that villa to her brother before she died as a wedding gift. How can she say it isn't theirs?
"We investigated the property, it's in one Mr. Jared's name." The woman brought out a document and passed it to Ali but she was too shocked to look at it.
"Is this a joke? What do you mean? That man is not even a relative. How can the property be in his name," Ali questioned the woman coldly.
The woman didn't take her tone kindly and quickly glared at her. "Do you have a problem with your ears or have you gone mad? How would I know if he is your relative or not? Go and find out yourself. Don't come back here. I don't want to see your face again. Now get out," the woman ordered, showing Ali the door.
Ali left the office in rage. Her heart burned with hatred and malice. There was no way Jared would have that property unless it was sold to him. And there was no way the property would have been sold if someone hadn't tampered with her safe. It was the work of her father and the scheme of Mary at work.
The man dared to sell her property right under her nose. She swore never to spare him. They would have to give her the money for the villa and any other property they had successfully sold.
"Look at you all angry and frustrated". A voice interrupted her thoughts.
Her feet came to a halt, she looked up and found the sleazy piece of trash, standing by his car with many guards behind him.
He was dressed in a three-piece suit looking suave and impeccable. His smile was broad, but to her, it was disgusting.
One would mistake him for a gentle and doting husband and father, when in fact he was a disgusting scumbag.
Ali was already furious and seeing the man made her bottled-up emotions erupt. Without minding his status, where they were, or the fact that he had guards behind him, she walked to him and grabbed him by his collar and fiercely asked.
"How did you get your filthy hands on my brother's property".
Jared, who looked shocked in the beginning, calmed down and held her hands that were holding his collar gently, almost caressing it.
Feeling disgusted, Ali withdrew her hands in a flash and glared at him with killing intent.
If only she could drive a stake through his heart or scatter his brain with a few bullets.
"Aaa my sweet Ali. This is the reason I love you so much. You are fierce and bold, but your type is very docile in bed." Jared stared at her with a lascivious gaze that Ali felt like poking his eyes out.
This dirty man.
"That villa is not the only thing I got my hands on. I bought it from your father with so much consideration for your future. If I hadn't, he would have sold it off to someone else or given it out as a betrothal gift for Cheyenne."
Ali fought the impulse to punch the man. She took a deep breath before saying, "Give it back now."
Stop! Hello people, since you have gotten to this chapter, how about leaving a comment about your thoughts. It won't take a minute to do so. Thank you
Ali's heart shook, and she immediately stood straight like a rod and shifted away from Charles. "Are you alright?" Charles asked, staring at her with a look of worry. "Uh–yes I am," Ali breathed, looking down at the floor as she didn't want to look at Gerald. Why did he have to walk here at that very moment when Charles caught her? Gerald's eyes shifted to Charles, and the marketing director quickly said. "She slipped, and I caught her." "You should be careful with people you catch. You might end up falling harder than the person," Gerald said. It was a subtle threat, but Charles failed to understand it as he was unaware of the relationship between the new CEO and his newly appointed marketing assistant. Ali knew he was talking about her, even though he didn't spare her a glance. Her heart raced with him just standing there and talking. His aura seemed to have magnified, and she felt like she was a pauper standing before an emperor. A cruel, hot emperor. Charles chuckled afte
The hospital where Dr Wood worked was the biggest hospital in the country, and the hotel where Lilian had the fire accident belonged to an influential tycoon in the country. Whatever transpired in both of these big establishments was definitely not a coincidence. "I will drop by later before going back. I was going to propose to Ali yesterday," Dr Wood said. Mr Wood blinked in surprise at the information. "Oh, do you still–" "I don't care about that father," Dr Wood interrupted his father, knowing what the man wanted to say. He squashed the coffee cup with his palms and stood up, saying, "It's my fault for not paying and asking her to get the remaining. I acted too indifferent." "You didn't. Your brother needed you at that time, our family needed you," Mr Wood stated. His youngest son had somehow gotten involved with a con artist and was swindled a huge amount of money and, if not for his assistance, they would have ended up in the streets. Dr Wood shook his head with a bitte
It appeared that she slept so deeply last night that she failed to hear when he came in, but how did she end up outside? She had never sleepwalked before and would definitely not start that now, so the only explanation was that Gerald had moved her out last night. Everyone had the same conclusion, even though Gerald kept a poker face and acted like an oblivious child. "Did someone die that you women decided to stand at the door with gloomy faces?" Gerald asked, looking at his grandmother. He didn't spare Ali a glance, and it only made Ali feel worse because he was blatantly ignoring her after what he did. "I thought that someone indeed died; otherwise, why would your wife be sleeping on the floor, right outside your room?" Harriet replied unhappily. Gerald's lips quirked up, and he passed a glance at Ali before looking away. "How would I know? She must have crawled out here without realizing it. Her limbs are surprisingly all over the place." He perked Harriet and walked away.
He sighed, feeling a headache form. His grandmother had a way of throwing people into illusions, causing frustrating confusion. "How annoying," he tsked. "Hm, did you say something?" Barry asked, looking back at Gerald. Gerald glanced at him then closed his eyes but as soon as the darkness covered his vision, he saw a certain woman. She looked radiant and breathtakingly enchanting in the white wedding dress. Her naive, black, starry-like eyes and her innocent smile. The way she looked at him when he told her that she had signed a contract with the devil and how she stood her ground to not move during the wedding reception made him ponder if perhaps Ali had a split personality. She wasn't as weak as she appeared to be and seemed to have a mindset that worked differently from others. He couldn't tell if she was a white lotus or a stray cat. Thinking about it now, he realized that her emotions and actions sometimes clashed. Just like when Jared abducted her and he went to save
Gerald stared at Madeline with a cold, calculating smile. The room fell into an eerie silence, as Madeline suddenly turned quiet from shock after seeing the child. Her fear was etched across her face. She could not believe that Gerald had caught a hold of her family. She had painstakingly hidden them away, so how did he find them? She was sure they were safe, and no one would link them to her.Alan, the man who had been roughly dragged into the other room, looked startled and disoriented. His eyes darted around the room, glaring angrily at the men who pinned him to the chair and tied him up. He had been captured when he was returning from his meeting with a client in Mongolia. Madeline's son continued sobbing in the other room, and it brought tears to Madeleine's eyes that slipped down to her shirt. "Gerald, they did nothing wrong to you, I hurt you, please let them go. My son is just six years old," she struggled with the chair helplessly. Gerald pouted his lips and let the silen
Music recommendation: In The End by Linkin Park."Leave it be for now, let me deal with this one first. Have the child and lover moved to the other room. It's been so long I last saw her," Gerald said, and resumed walking. His expression turned frostier even as he walked languidly through the corridor and halted before a steel door. The door was pushed back by William, and as he walked in, his eyes observed the condition of the room sharply, even under the scarce lighting. He was quick to pick out a flying insect in a corner of the room. It was a cockroach."I didn't remember giving you permission to have companions," Gerald said, looking in a particular direction. The light was turned on abruptly, and it shone directly on the face of the girl who sat directly opposite it and in the middle of the room. Her eyes were forced to close because of the light that fell directly on her face. "You didn't come to visit, I was lonely, and they came to keep me company," the girl said. Her voi
