After being forced to marry a man she didn’t know to save her father’s business, Cassandra thought her life would change. But it didn’t. The marriage was married on paper that meaning nothing. After she married, she was still allowed to continue living as she wished. A year after her marriage, Cassie applied for a job at a big company that brought many changes to her life. That was when she discovered that her boss was a cold-blooded mafia who killed with his bare hands—the worst man she had ever met. Their first encounter happened when she accidentally walked into her boss’s room and caught him having sex with a woman. And to her shock, her boss turned out to be her husband—the man who hadn’t shown up on their wedding day. *** “Cassandra Ainsley Floyd?” Chris repeated the name, then looked up to see the woman standing in front of his desk. “Yes, Sir." “Are you married?” The question slipped freely from his lips as he waited for an answer. “No, Sir. I’m not married.” Her answer broke the silence between them. “Alright, you’re hired, Miss Floyd. Starting tomorrow, you’ll work as my secretary. Come in tomorrow morning, and my personal assistant will show you what you need to do.” As soon as Cassandra walked out of his office, Chris called his trusted person impatiently. “Yes, Christ?” “Do you still have my wife’s information? I’ve forgotten her name, but as long I remember, her last name is Floyd, isn’t she? I think she just applied for a job at my company without knowing I’m her husband. Interestingly, it seems she has a special relationship with my cousin.”

“You lost.”
Those two words escaped from my lips, followed by the sound of a glass landing on the gambling table.
I wasn’t sure how many glasses I had drunk, but I was certain that the alcohol hadn’t yet clouded my mind. I was still very sober… and I had just won gambling against someone who was supposed to be unbeatable at this.
“You lost again,” I repeated with a short chuckle, amused by the fact that I had repeatedly defeated a man who owned this gambling den on the outskirts of New York. “This place is mine now, isn’t it?”
The man in front of me had reddened eyes.
Of course, he couldn’t believe what had just happened.
After losing millions of dollars, I was about to take his business, leaving him nothing but the streets.
“You can’t take this from me,” the man looked up with disbelief eyes.
Unfortunately for Andreas Floyd, he didn’t really know me well enough, even though this was the second time I had played at his den.
“Want to bet again?” I reached under the table and pointed a gun at the man’s head, “If I don’t win, you can keep this place. But if I win, I’ll take your head as well. Isn’t that an exciting deal?”
My eyes observed calmly, but my mind tracked every little movement Andreas made, including when he slipped his hand into his pocket and pointed a gun straight at my head—it was easy for him since we were sitting face-to-face across the gambling table.
Four men who had been gambling nearby immediately turned and aimed their guns at Andreas, breaking their cover as they realized I might be in danger.
“It’s fine,” I glanced at one of them.
Andreas looked around, realizing now that he couldn’t mess with me.
Fool.
Did this man think he could fool me?
“What if I take your head instead?” Andreas spoke despite knowing his forces were no match for me and my four bodyguards. “They might shoot me, but you’d die too, wouldn’t you?”
I smirked and raised my glass. “Then let’s toast to your victory,” I said, sipping from it calmly.
From the corner of my eye, I could see the fear in Andreas’s eyes.
And yes, that was the perfect moment to turn the tables.
As soon as my glass was empty, I extended my arm and hurled the glass at Andreas’s head, disrupting his defenses. In seconds, I lunged at him, pulling him down to the floor. Andreas was drunk, and his vision was already impaired in the dim gambling room. My right hand seized Andreas’s gun while my left pushed Andreas’s face into the ground. My legs pinned him down, and one by one, punches landed on his body.
Chaos erupted around them.
One thing I knew was that Andreas wasn’t running this business alone. He certainly had dozens of guards responsible for the safety of every table, all armed.
Gunfire erupted from several directions, but of course, my guards handled it all.
“Stop them, or my guards will destroy this place,” I said calmly.
Andreas glanced around once more, realizing that my power had completely beat him.
“Stop! Stop!” Andreas’s voice echoed through the dark gambling hall. Even though his lips bled from the glass shards when I shoved him to the floor, his voice remained firm. “Stop shooting, or you’ll wreck this place, damn it!”
I grinned.
I had no intention of destroying this place. I preferred the idea of owning this gambling den rather than seeing it turn into a dilapidated building. But if Andreas wanted otherwise, I wouldn’t regret doing so. I would do anything to make sure a loss was paid for. Andreas had lost, and I... had to take something from him.
“I have another deal,” Andreas’s eyes showed complete submission as he realized there was no way he could defeat me, even with all his guards at the gambling den.
So, I fired a single shot to put an end to all the chaos. I let go of Andreas, allowing him to crawl away toward the base of the table, leaning against it, gasping while his face was covered in blood.
Well, this was just the beginning. But it seemed that Andreas fully understood how to deal with me now.
“Give me a good deal, or I’ll burn this place down if your offer doesn’t interest me,” I lit a cigarette, feeling the thrill of watching Andreas tremble before me—showing off my power and making everyone bow down to me.
“My daughter.” Andreas spoke calmly, “You can have my daughter as payment for my loss. You can marry her and make her your slave.”
I raised an eyebrow.
Damn. No one had ever made such an offer to me before.
But what harm was there in taking something else? I didn’t need this gambling den, but I wanted something I could claim as a prize for my victory. If Andreas couldn’t give me the den, then why not take something else of his?
I walked toward Andreas, lowering my gaze to the man kneeling at his feet—begging for his life.
I liked that. Begging. Everyone had to beg for their lives—just like I did before.
"Give me the photo," I looked down at the man pleading at his feet.
"I don’t have the new photo of her," Andreas replied, glancing up with fear in his eyes.
"So, you expect me to marry some random woman? Why don’t you just offer me your wife instead?"
"My phone. I need my phone." Andreas raised his hand, asking permission to retrieve his phone from his pocket, and I gave a single nod.
I waited a few moments until Andreas found the photo he was searching for.
"This is a picture from two years ago. She’s beautiful—I assure you, you can do anything you want with her."
I narrowed my eyes as I noticed the woman in the photo had perfect green eyes.
"Give me your hand," I said softly. "She has green eyes. I’ll marry her, then."
Andreas slowly extended his hand, and two seconds later, he screamed as I pressed the burning tip of my cigarette into his palm—a small burn compared to everything that had just happened between them.
“We meet tomorrow morning for the wedding. If your daughter’s late, you’ll lose your hand.” I spoke calmly, letting go of Andreas’s hand. “By the way, my name is Christopher Drew Alexavier. In case your daughter needs a name.”
I walked away with steady, authoritative steps. I noticed several pairs of eyes watching me in the darkness, calculating the right moment to aim and fire bullets at my body, hoping for a quick kill.
But before they had the chance, two men dressed in black with sunglasses flanked me, acting as shields.
“Some of the customers saw your face, but I made sure they don’t know your identity,” said one of them, Dixon.
“If anyone knows who I am, why don’t you just take out their eyes?” I glanced at my blood-stained fingers, then let out a short chuckle. “Forget what I said. I have a lot of mercy this time because tomorrow... I’m getting married.”
“That sounds insane,” Daxton opened the car door for me, still standing at my side like a bodyguard ready to take a bullet. “Are you really going through with this? Andreas owes you money, so why marry his daughter?”
I smiled at the question, and a few seconds later, that smile turned into a sharp, cunning grin. “I don’t care about the marriage. It’s just... everyone who loses to me has to pay. And wouldn’t it be more fun if I toy with his daughter?”
Cassandra’s POVI truly had no idea what to do after receiving a call from the man… the one who claimed he was my husband.Of course, I knew he wasn’t lying—no one else knew about this marriage except for us, my mother, Daxton, and the man who’d just been angry with me.Now, I wasn’t sure how long I’d been wandering the city aimlessly. All I knew was that I’d left my mother after ensuring she got home in the Uber I ordered for her. I didn’t go back with her, claiming I had something else to do. But my “something else” was walking with no direction, hoping to somehow disappear into another city after a day of wandering. After walking for hours and as the day grew dark, I entered a bar on the side of the road. This wasn’t a place I’d normally visit, but here I was after all the craziness I’d gone through.Franco, my best friend, would be furious if he knew I was drinking without him. My mother would also be disappointed if she saw what I was doing. But what else could calm me down besid
Cassandra’s POVI couldn’t hide my shock as I looked around my house—a house that my mother always cleaned every morning, now filled with chaos and dirt at every step.I remembered that just last night, my mother had asked me to fix the main light in our house, which had been left dead for more than a week. But now, the chandelier was lying on the floor, and its crystal pieces shattered across the room.I stepped forward with trembling legs. My breath caught in my throat, and I could feel tears welling up, blurring my vision. My fear worsened as I realized there was no sound at all—the house seemed like an abandoned building that had been left empty for years.“Mom?” My voice trembled, and I nearly screamed in frustration when there was no response.I knew something terrible had happened in this house while I was outside. But I had to know just how bad the situation was. What had happened that made our home so dark and chaotic like this?“Mom?”“Finally, you’re home after making me wa
