I stepped out of Sarah’s room, angry, my face still stinging from where she had hit me. I wanted to rip her face off, but I’d held myself back— there was time for everything.

Simeon had failed me, just like every man in my life. When she had walked through the door with Ryder in Zane’s arms, I wanted to find Simeon and kill him myself.

“Barren bitch! You'll get what’s coming for you,” I muttered under my breath as I took the stairs down to the ground floor.

As I took a turn towards the kitchen, something caught my eye. I saw Sarah heading toward Ryder's room and trailed her silently, careful to stay out of sight. When the door clicked shut behind her, I pressed my ear against it, straining to catch every word.

A ghost of a smile touched my lips when I heard Sarah insisting on leaving— she should have done that a long time ago.
