The tree became denser and the sun began to set as I walked further into the woods. At some point while walking I felt like someone was watching me. I looked back but I couldn't see much since the day had become darker than before and I could only see a short distance. I kept on walking, this time faster. I almost forgot why I was walking faster until I heard the snapping of a twig. I looked back but still nothing. This time I was sure I heard something so I kept looking in the wanting to figure out what it was.

After looking for a while and I decided to continue my walk, I heard the sound again. my eyes snapped in the direction of the sound and I saw it. Its large form emerges from the darkness. Its black furs look polished under the moonlight. It kept on taking menacing steps in my direction. I was shocked, out of everything I thought was hiding there I wasn't expecting an abnormally large wolf. Its eyes kept watching. I could have screamed but I wanted to be careful because any mistake and I could be its next meal.

' I thought you wanted to die ' my subconscious mocked

'uhm, yes but not like this '

I took tentative steps backward, but when I saw it crouched low ready to attack I knew it was time to run.

" Help, help" I shouted hoping someone would hear me as I ran as far as my feet to carry. I could hear its large paws hitting the ground. my heart was beating rapidly, shots of adrenaline were released In my blood, and my legs didn't stop, well at least not until I stumbled on a fallen branch and fell. I tried to scramble to my feet but it lungs at me and bit on my leg so hard I felt my bone crack and a scream tore out of my lips.

Someone tore the wolf off my leg and threw it to the nearest. Tears blurred my vision and the only thing I could make out was the silhouette of a man disarming the wolf. A black dot clouded my vision and I grew very weak, succumbing to the peace that I have always wanted and hoping I would get to heaven.

I opened my eyes only to see darkness all over, I rolled my head to the side to take a look at my surroundings with the little sunlight reflecting through the light curtain. The room was too wide, the ceiling should be at least fifty feet tall. The dark paneling on the wall made the olive-colored curtain stand out, which hung beside a ginormous window bay that was in the center of the far wall.

I sat up on the bed feeling very dizzy and weak like I was run over by a train, the moonlight was inadequate for the spacious room but it's funny how my eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness and I could make out everything in the room, from the couches in the center of the room to the table in the center of the couches with a pen and dagger lying on it.

I reached out to switch on the lamp near the bedside when my attention was drawn to the voices at the other side of the door engaging in a heated conversation.

"Why the hell will you think this was the right place to bring her to?" A cold voice said.

So cold I almost shivered, my first instinct was to run but then I remembered they were the ones who saved me and if they wanted to kill me they would have done that while I was asleep, moreover, I don't even know where I am.

But they are strangers my brain scolded but my body was weak and I was tired of running.

" She was badly hurt by our kind, I could take her to a hospital but that would be at the expense of our existence leaking out."Another voice replied. " Alpha is not going to be happy about...".

" She's awake" the voice interrupted and before I could make a move to pretend to be asleep the light was switched on and I just looked at the two men as they strode in looking at me like a predator would look at his prey and I was beginning to regret why I didn't follow my instinct in the first place, but did I forget to say that this predator we're very good looking, like mouth-watering handsome. I just watched like a deer caught in headlights.

"Call Dr. Ken," said one of the men who was six feet and two inches tall with his long blonde hair packed in a small bun, a few strands of hair framed his face. He had a strong jaw with little stubble, and his blue-green eyes were wide as they looked me over in curiousness. I assume he was the one who saved me. There was this boyish charm about him that made me feel safe around him Even if his eyes were boring into my soul, watching every of my movement. The man who he was talking to earlier left immediately to call the doctor making sure to glare at me before leaving.

"How are you feeling?" He asked taking a seat beside the bed. The wound on my leg was covered with a bandage but I didn't feel any pain, the only thing am feeling now is malaise.

" I feel dizzy and weak but apart from that am okay," I said looking down at my lap picking at the shirt that had ridden up to my mid thigh, wondering who cleaned me up.

"You lost a lot of blood so I told Theresa to clean you up, your clothes were stained with blood. So I volunteered my shirt but don't worry she has gone to get you some of her spare clothes" he said answering the question in my mind. " What were you doing close to the Denali cliff" he asked softly. I bent my head further hiding the pink that dusted my cheek, I didn't know how to tell him without feeling embarrassed. "I said, what were you doing in our territory" he asked again but this time firmly and a bit louder.

Fear gripped me as I rammed my head for something to say. " I was looking for a place to stay...", "And there was no hotel around Alsaka?" He interrupted. I looked up at him as the fear embraced him, his calm demeanor disappearing as his body tensed up and his eyes fixed on my eyes like it would tell if I was lying. Maybe it did because he got angrier. Just as I opened my mouth to say something a man in his mid-forties walked through the door wearing a white lab coat, with a file in his left hand and his brown hair covering his ear where his glass rested.

I wondered why all of them had long hair and were all good-looking. " Beta Evan could you please suspend your questions for another day when she is better and not trying to survive the shift, my patient is already under as much stress as it is" the doctor I presume said giving me a pitiful smile. Beta Evan, so that was his name.

He just looked at me and smiled. " We will finish this later" that was all he said before he stood up and left. Though I was happy, I was no longer interrogated but I still didn't understand what the doctor meant by shift. " So how are you? you lost so much blood but we tried our best to stop the blood and dress the wound. You've been out for a while, but the wound is already covered, it may leave a small scar there. Otherwise, you are healing very fast due to the changes occurring in your body system. You should be okay before the full moon" he finished.

" For how long have I been out," I asked the doctor. " Not too long, just two days," he said matter-of-fact

" JUST TWO DAYS," I said raising my voice.

How are you feeling?" The doctor asked.

" I am fine " I whispered still shaken from the incident and now the interrogation. Am I fine ?, I am running from my boyfriend and tried to commit suicide, almost got eaten up by a wolf almost the size of a horse for dinner, fell into the hands of mafias or whoever these people are, and instead of them to take me to a hospital, they called in their doctor because they are hiding something from the public.

Maybe they are into dirty business and they are afraid the government sent me to spy on them. Shift, shift maybe they want me to choose between the government or them and agree not to expose them.... "Very vague" he said signing, checking my pulse rate and other vital signs, and then scribbling on the file in his hands.

"You were in so much pain when you fell unconscious, you kept writhing and moaning mentioning a name ...I think Denver, so we gave analgesic before anything which would be the cause of your dizziness. All you have to do this week is to eat and sleep. Please don't stress the leg or do any strenuous work. You need to regain the blood you lost." He said closing the file and giving me that pitiful smile before he left. Come on, I am not crippled neither are my legs amputated so why does he keep looking at me like that. I winced as pain shot through my legs just from touching it.

" Be careful there, I know you are eager to walk but it will take a while." A woman said walking in through the open door where a man was standing. He closed the just immediately after she entered. I looked at the woman who had her dark hair in a loose bun. Her blue eyes watched my hand calmly as it returned to its previous position. She was dressed in a blue sundress that complimented her eyes. She was stunning, I was beginning to wonder if these people were human because they were unearthly beautiful.

She dropped the pile of clothes that were folded neatly in her arms on the bed. " I don't have much in my closet, manage this," she said as she moved to open a door, it was only after she opened the door that I realized it was a bathroom. Looking from ten feet away the only thing I could see was white tiles glistening from the light it reflected making the bathroom brighter than the room, It was almost blinding. I could perceive a faint scent of lavender and Cinnamon, and hear the sound of water running as she prepared a bath for me. She came out looking like she just remembered something important.

" Don't mind my rude manner, the name is Theresa". Before I could introduce myself she went back into the bathroom. I should thank her for cleaning me up. I just sat down there looking at how things turned out, though I worried he might find me but somehow I felt safe in this unknown place surrounded by strange good-looking people. It didn't take long before she emerged from the bathroom and helped me into the bathtub. I felt ashamed to reveal my nakedness with all its scars to her but she didn't say a word she just looked at it curiously. She helped me slip into the bathtub slowly while telling me to raise my left leg to prevent water from entering it. I washed myself up while she helped me redress the wound not saying a word.

After I was done with bathing and dressing, she grabbed a bathrobe neatly folded in a cabinet and handed it over to me. I wrapped it around myself. Just as she assisted me out of the bathroom and into the bedroom, I heard a knock at the door.

"Come in " Theresa called out while I looked at myself to check if I was decent.

"Excuse us," he told her as he walked towards the bed, she didn't move instead they exchanged looks as if they were communicating with their eyes. While I sat there looking at them hoping she wasn't going to leave me alone with him, the energy that rolled off of him made my toes curl. After a minute she left and I was left with a muscular and lanky blonde man, who for some reason is glaring at me.

He took his time to grab a chair at the corner of the room to the bed. I recognized him as the one who saved me and I remember I hadn't thanked him for it. I don't even want to imagine what would have happened to me if he hadn't come to my rescue that night. Before I could show my gratitude he spoke.

"What is your name?" He asked. "Alaia" I answered. "Alaia" he repeated.

" Thank you for saving me," I said looking up at him.

" Don't thank me yet, I know I saved you but you are still going to die " he said indifferently. Was he the one that saved me?

" Please don't kill me. I promise am not a spy and I won't tell anyone about...".

" What you will become, or is it what you might become?" He said raising an eyebrow at me, with a smirk on his face.

"I don't want to join the mafia and I promise I won't..." I was interrupted again. Very rude.

"Did.. you just say mafia? Is that what you think this is?" He asked looking shocked for a minute and then laughing the next. His laughter resonated throughout the spacious room, if I wasn't confused about what this was then I would have smiled at how boyish and carefree he looked while laughing.

" Welcome to the world of werewolves"

"You are welcome to the world of werewolves," he said resting his back on the comforter and looking into my eyes smirking. It started as a chuckle and then led to full-blown laughter, I laughed so much that tears dropped from my eyes and my stomach hurt. He was good, I almost fell for it. What in the world? Out of everything, the only thing he could come up with was werewolves. Seriously? Anytime I want to sober up and say something his words just replay in my head and am back to laughing again. But as I looked up at him, a crisp between his eyebrows and a frown on his lips and his stares unflattering, my laughter died as I began to wonder if truly they existed. "You are kidding, right?, I mean there is nothing like werewolves, those are children's fantasy, bedtime stories". I could take her to the hospital but they would be at the expense of our existence leaking out, I remember what he told that other man during their conversation. Could it be true? The next morning I woke up to the sound of birds chirping, and the moon and stars ready to pass duty to the sun. I looked sideways to the bedside table where a clock rested. I stood up feeling pain all over, it seemed the pain relief they gave me yesterday had worn off. I walked into the bathroom and freshened up. I got out of the bathroom with a bathrobe a little too big wrapped around me only to find a pair of sweats neatly folded on the bed. While putting on the underwear that I found between clothes, a thought crossed my mind and I quickly changed into the sweatshirt and jugger that I found with a new thought in mind to escape before anyone else woke up. I went over to the window and looked down to see I was twelve feet from the ground. I couldn't jump or else I would sprain my ankle, so I decided to use the door. I opened the door slowly and quietly enough for me to squeeze through to avoid any creaking. I looked into the hallway to see if the place was clear. After straining my

His body tensed up and his hold on my hand tightened making me wince in pain. He continued walking but this time faster and urgently. We opened the door to my room to see five people standing in the room and the noses of two wolves buried on the floor, sniffing for God knows what. " Her body has lost all warmth, which means she should have been dead for at least thirty minutes. She was stabbed in the heart with a knife. We also saw traces of blood in the sink and some bloody clothes in the trash." A brunette man spoke in a cold tone. I peeked at the body to see Theresa lying lifeless on the ground, in the pool of her blood, with a knife deep in her chest. I gasped as I recognized the knife. It was the same knife she came with to cut the fruit she brought in with my dinner. I had told her to leave it there since I didn't have the appetite at that t

I couldn't tell the number of days that have been locked in here, with only a broth of some kind to feed on. Which couldn't satisfy my hunger. I was growing weaker and weaker with each passing day. After days of silence, I finally heard the creaking of the door and the sound of footsteps, till footsteps stopped just outside my door as I saw two men come into view. One was unlocking the door while the other stood behind him. After trying different keys, he finally opened the door and came in. "Hope you are prepared for death himself," the taller one said yanking me off the ground and to my feet by my arm, while the other gripped my second arm. " I would keep my hands to myself if I were you," l said through gritted teeth as I felt the taller one spank my ass. "Still full of energy, aren't you ?" He laughed. How I wish to connect my fist to his nose. I don't know why these people keep shoving me forward, why don't they leave me to know how much I want to leave this place? We got into

In my last moment, I felt a needle prick me. The injection felt like a cold dagger straight to my heart, all I could feel was a rush of energy that made my mouth water and my toes curl. My eyes shot open and my vision cleared as I stared straight into the pale faces of the Alpha and Evan." How are you doing?" Evan asked passing me water to drink. " You mean while my bones are breaking into a disgusting abnormal position, fine, I guess". I said trying to lift their mood but either they didn't get the joke or they were too worried to smile. Just as I was about to smile to reassure them I was fine there was another crack. It wasn't as bad this time. Whatever they had given me made energy run through my veins and hide some of the pain. Another crack again and I wanted to scream it felt like my body was a fire hydrant of gasoline, soaking every limb of my body, as Sparks of pain lit up my body like a Christmas tree. I could imagine Denver looking at me smirking and saying 'You shouldn't h

The scent of cinnamon and coffee embraced me. I almost didn't want to leave the room.I walked out of the room quietly and walked down the hall looking for the kitchen. I turned a corner and I heard the voice of two people talking from the door ahead that was left slightly ajar. " One of the human prisoners shifted last night, and guess what" The person didn't let her partner reply before she continued. " Alpha Brandon and Beta Brandon were the ones that helped her through it, can you believe it?" "That can't be true, what will THE ALPHA be doing with a common prisoner more so a human" a second voice responded emphasizing the alpha and I could hear the shock and disgust in her tone as she spoke, it was as if the alpha was a very intimidating man and I wouldn't lie, I have seen him myself. They were talking about me that was for sure and I didn't know when I stood to listen more to their gossip. It's not like I wanted eavesdropping, I am just trying my supernatural hearing ability.

Just as I thought. His brother was the leader of the pack, but what was he? He said I am an alpha are two alphas supposed to be in a pack? More questions ran through my mind as he tried to explain this new world I found myself in. "I am an alpha so am I supposed to have a pack of my own?" I asked, I am not sure I want to lead anybody. When I decided to run, I planned on being a very normal average girl, so normal people would not notice as I passed beside them."No, you are..." I interrupted him with a loud sigh of relief. He gave what looked like an amused smile and continued. " Since you are an alpha female you are to rule beside your mate who could either be a beta or an alpha...""What do you mean by mate?" I asked interrupting him again." I would prefer if you do not interrupt. The second in command is the beta and beta females, there are other betas but they are under the first beta's control, it is just like being the vice president. I opened my eyes when the sound stopped and looked down to see paws. I still couldn't believe it. The shift wasn't as painful as the first time but it was painful. Let's start with Sandra's house. She said she's got a new job. Her house is not far from here. Come on" she said increasing her pace. It didn't take long before we got there. It was a small cabin with a small garden at the side. The place looked welcoming and well taken care of, but it wasn't until we walked up the staircase before we thought otherwise. The wooden stair creaked under our weight with each step we took. Kaitlyn was the one who knocked on the door while I stood beside her. We waited for a few seconds before the door clicked open to reveal a woman in her mid-thirties. She was wearing a pair of pants and a blue top that had a patterned rose on it. There are a lot of problems on our hands now and I don't want to add grudges to it. I knocked on the door of Jack's house. I smelled him in the house immediately after I got here, so I knew he was deliberately not answering and that is why I continued knocking persistently. ClickHe unlocked the door but didn't open it. after I realized he wasn't going to open it, I turned the knob, opened the door and walked in."What are you doing here?" He asked me. I turned to see him behind me closing the door. " I wanted to come see how you were doing" I bit my lower lips in nervousness. His eyes flickered at the motion before he went back to drinking a glass of scotch. Chugging down the whole thing. He took the bottle and was about to drink from it when I snatched it from his hands." I am fine" he slurred. I don't know what he was about to tell her, but I knew it wasn't going to be good. So as I watched her walk elegantly back to her bed and crossed her leg, my smirk grew wider than before. The place was wide and spacious, there was an open kitchen by the side and two other doors which I assume were the bathroom and closet. The whole walls were painted white and there was no window. " Can I get you something?" She asked. Evan shook his head. I knew she wasn't asking me so I didn't bother to answer. I could feel her glaring at me but instead of exchanging glares, I looked at the room. It was simple and elegant. There was a vase sitting at the side of the room, filled with colourful plastic flowers that were in contrast to the white wall adding to the beauty of the room. There was a beautiful painting on the wall, near the bed. It was a painting of a beautiful woman holding a demon baby in her hands. The baby had furs sprouting out of the skin on his chest hands and face, and its eyes w

Adam came into view with anger contouring his face. He looked at us and everything we had prepared down. He looked back at Jerry and before I could open my mouth to say anything, he grabbed him by the neck. " What the hell are you doing with my mate." He snarled at him. I stood shocked as Jerry started to say something to calm him down but he wasn't having it. Wasn't I the one he was supposed to be angry at? I should be the one he was supposed to strangle, and whip until I was screaming out my apologies. " I said what the hell were you fucking doing with my mate," he asked again. But Jerry couldn't bring out sound as he struggled to take in breath. When I saw how white he was turning I figured out I had to do something or else he was going to kill him." Evan rushed to the other side of Adam. He was only a few inches shorter than Adam, so it was easier for him than it was for me. 'Are you hurt?' Evan's concerned voice rang in my head.'No' I answered. Adam removed his hands from mine, as Evan put his other hand around his shoulder. The shirt I wore was bloody, but there was nothing I could do about it until I got home. The whole place was silent for just a minute before chattering began again but this time, it was moderate. A few people scurried past bowing their heads. It was beautiful, I had always enjoyed it. It wasn't an awkward silence. It was a peaceful and comforting one. I wasn't thinking about anything just looking at the sky."As much as I would have loved to stay here with you, I think we should leave" he sighed and sat up reluctantly. I didn't want to go, but I remembered I never told Adam or Evan where I would be. He grabbed my hand and pulled me up. "Thanks" I muttered dusting the sand off the shirt that I wore.
