Chapter 08: The injured girl

When he returned to the office, Larry was mentally prepared to be scolded, thinking that Alex would scold him.

What he didn't expect was that Alex didn't scold him, but only asked him if he was scared.

Although Larry shook his head, he couldn't help but think back to Wanda's look as she was led inside the isolation chamber.

"Oh, Larry, you and Nicky should go to the hospital later to monitor the wounded girl. Don't let her escape." 

Alex said while organizing the documents in her hand.

"Oh, isn't that supposed to be the prison guard's duty?"

Larry asked rhetorically.

In other prisons, or towns, there are special hospitals for prisoners, but not in this town.

Injured inmates are sent by the guards to the town's central hospital, cured, and then brought back to the prison.

"At the moment, there is a shortage of guards. The prison director instructed us to send two correctional officers to keep watch. You are new and should regard this assignment as an opportunity."

Alex said without raising her head.

"So. are we going now?"

"Yeah, right now."

Not long after, Larry and Nicky arrived at the town hospital, where the girl was still in resuscitation.

After hanging around for a while, the lights in the emergency room went down.

Doctors came out, and Nicky walked up and asked, "How's the girl?"

"Nothing serious, healing might take a little while, but she should be fine."

"So can we go see her now?"

"Yes."

The doctor pointed to a nearby ward: "This is a special ward for your prison. The patient will be brought into this room later, you can wait here."

Soon, the girl was pushed out. Although her face was still a bit pale, she looked much better already.

"Thank you."

The girl looked at Larry, if it wasn't for this man, perhaps she wouldn't be alive now.

At the same time, she also thought of those brutal female prisoners and was scared in her heart.

"It's okay, I was only doing my job."

Larry and Nicky sat on each side of the girl’s bed.

The girl was wearing a white hospital gown that was as snowy as her skin.

"What happened today?"

Larry said as he looked at the girl.

"I don't know. When I came in,  I was asked if I was a virgin and I said yes. My pants were then quickly removed by a woman named Lorna, and they immediately poked their fingers painfully under me. I still feel a lot of pain down there."

The girl said with tears streaming down her face, "Luckily there was a woman called Wanda, she tried to save me, then they all ganged up on her and fought her, and after that, you guys came."

"Wanda?"

"Um, yes, Wanda, that was what one of Lorna's subordinates called her."

"But that's not what Lorna explained to Alex."

Larry muttered to himself.

"Just don't be fooled. What do you think this place is? There are no facts in prison."

Nicky shook her head and continued, "You're so naive and childish, it seems like you have a lot to learn."

"Is there no law inside the prison?"

Larry said defiantly.

"OK, OK, OK, there is a law here, you're right."

Nicky shook her head with a bitter smile, "I was the same as you when I first came here, but now I know better."

"So the place changed you?"

"Sort of, and in less than two years, you will be the same as me."

Nicky asserted.

"I won't."

Larry vowed bluntly.

"Then we'll see! Hey, young people, energetic and vigorous."

Nicky had a very old-fashioned look on her face.

"We'll see, we'll see."

Larry was unimpressed.

Suddenly, a man's voice rang out in the hallway, sounding very anxious and annoyed.

Inside the ward, Larry and Nicky paid no attention to the voice but the girl on the bed suddenly became agitated.

Larry noticed the change on the girl's face and looked in the direction of the door.

"Um. Can I, can I meet him?"

The girl said softly, with a pleading look in her eyes.

"No."

Nicky flatly refused, "You can't see him until the date of the meeting."

"Just one meeting, please..."

The girl said carefully.

"That's the rule, no compromise."

Nicky was resolute at this point, her face grim.
