I was up a long time before Sasha was but I didn’t want to venture out into his apartment by myself. I heard noises coming from the kitchen and I assumed it would be his brother. I wasn’t really ready to meet him without Sasha first introducing us. I was feeling a little intimidated at meeting his family. Unable to bear my full bladder any longer I grabbed one of Sasha’s larger t-shirts and ventured quickly out to the bathroom. I washed up quickly and took care of business then made my way back to Sasha’s room. As I turned the corner, I came face to face with professor Vasily. I looked at him puzzled.

‘Vasya?’ I asked.

‘Good morning Avery’ he said with a charming smile. I heard Sasha say something from the bedroom as he came running out, pulling on a pair of shorts.

‘Avery, I can explain’ he said frantically. The puzzle pieces all clicked together as I looked from

AVERY’S POVI worked hard all week to keep my emotions in check. Although I’d verbally forgiven Sasha my heart was still bruised. Every time I looked at him or Vasya, a small flame of anger burned inside of me. I needed to put the flame out completely if I was going to move on. When Sasha wasn’t away for games I spent most of my time at his apartment, and got a ride to university with Vasya, shaving off 20 minutes to my morning commute. If Sasha was free he’d come pick me up and we’d spend the day together.Finals were approaching and Sasha was away for a few days to Pennsylvania and Connecticut, he’d offered for me to stay at the apartment while he was gone so that I could take advantage of having Vasya as a private tutor, but I opted to go to Sam’s and study as much as I could. I read my biology textbook from cover to cover and watched a lot of youtube videos on my laptop. I didn’t get much

The new term started a week after new years. On Mondays I had an abnormal behaviour psychology class in the afternoon followed by an art history class in the evening. Tuesday was still dedicated to biology and english, while Wednesday to Friday was dedicated to nursing.Once Vasya had returned from Moscow, he and Sasha moved my belongings to their apartment where, as I had guessed the first time I visited the apartment, my belongings hardly made a dent in Sasha’s vast walk-in closet. Both men refused that I paid a part of the rent or of the utilities, but were okay with me paying for my own parking spot in the underground garage and for some of the groceries. I had considered leaving my car at Sam’s because I would commute to university with Vasya and only used my car when I picked up shifts at the restaurant.‘Miss Chasse’ Vasya called out during the first class of the semester ‘can you give us an example of

In mid July, Sasha announced he wanted to buy a house.‘That’s pretty permanent’ I said cautiously.‘I think I might have two more seasons in me, then I plan on taking over my uncle’s business. I’m ready to move on’ he said pensively.‘Move on?’‘From hockey of course, not from you’ he said with a grin pulling me into his chest.‘And you want to buy a house?’ I replied looking up at him.‘Yeah’ he said simply. He never mentioned it again, but I found him looking at houses every so often. It wasn’t until training began in mid August that the subject was brought up again.‘Where are we heading?’ I asked as he drove away from the arena.‘I want to show you something’ he said with a grin. I looked out of the

Avery POVThe beginning of September meant that classes were starting up again. I still had biology classes with Vasya on Tuesday while the rest of my classes were mainly for nursing theory, skills and clinicals. For nursing we mostly focused on skills and within the first month back at university we had learned to do simple and complex sterile dressing, suture removal, and medication administration. Kate and I made it a point to be paired up together as much as possible and ended up being on the same clinical rotations. She had become my biggest source of support when it came to nursing because she understood exactly what I was going through and I was able to provide her with that same support in return. She had been working in a nursing home during the summer holiday and felt that she had gained a considerable amount of knowledge from just being there. I envied her the experience, but I was happy with the way my summer had gone. I told h

Misha POVI knew it was a terrible idea to travel to America with Dmitry. I had been working hard to flush Avery out of my system and here I was running right back to her. Living under her roof, sleeping in a room close to her for two weeks. I knew her and Sasha were perfect for each other but I couldn’t help the feeling of disappointment that they had moved in together. I wanted a taste of her, and to prove to her that I was a good match.‘Mishka!’ Dmitry called as he entered my mom’s house. I picked up the bag I had just finished packing, kissed my mama goodbye and got into Dmitry’s rental car. I was glad Dmitry wasn’t a talker because I wasn’t sure I’d be able to carry a conversation.I had been anxiously waiting to go to America ever since Sasha had invited me during his quick visit in May. I had counted down the days, and imagined all sorts of scenarios in my head about

I spent the next week similarly to the first, hanging out with Avery in the mornings and evenings while training with Dmitry and Sasha in the afternoons. At the end of the week, Sasha had gotten us all tickets to see his game a few states over. Vasily drove us there early in the morning and we checked into our rooms. I was to share a room with Sasha and Avery, while Dmitry and Vasily shared the adjoining room to ours. Dmitry went to the arena to meet the team and help out with some of the warm ups.‘Can we go check out the little shops downtown’ Avery asked, hopeful. Vasya grunted in dismissal as he worked on a presentation on his laptop.‘If you want’ I shrugged in mock indifference. Anything for you doll, I thought to myself. Vasya looked at me with an arched brow and a warning glance. ‘I know, I know’ I mumbled.‘You always seem to get stuck with me, don’t

Sasha's POVDmitry arrived right on schedule and settled right in. I was no longer able to skip my morning runs and Dmitry was not shy about dragging me out of bed when I tried to sleep in. I only slightly regretted having him living in my house for that reason. Avery was also not quiet about the rude awakening in the morning. She cursed out Dmitry on more than one occasion and got into the habit of locking the door at night. Dmitry simply pounded on the door in the mornings until I got up.I’d been lying awake long before my alarm went off. Avery’s head was on my shoulder, her arm across my chest, and one of her legs over my hips. I couldn’t imagine she was overly comfortable but every time I moved she would pull me closer and nuzzled her face into my chest. She was like a little heater, I didn’t need any blankets over me with her in my bed. Usually I ended up flipping the covers off myself halfway through the nigh

AVERY’S POV.Once Sasha had fallen asleep I got up and showered, then made my way to the kitchen to make breakfast for us all in an attempt to subdue a sullen Dmitry. He did not do well with tardiness and alterations in his plans; he was incredibly rigid sometimes. The fact that I had kept Sasha for a few extra minutes in the morning was enough to make him grumpy all day. Sasha had taken the brunt of Dmitry’s frustration that morning considering the state he was in when he returned to bed. Regardless of the fact that he had probably already eaten, Dmitry was like a hobbit when it came to food and would welcome a second breakfast gratefully. He was constantly eating to keep up his caloric needs, thankfully he also paid for half of the groceries each week.Dmitry was sitting in the living room reading a book and threw me a scathing look as I approached him. I handed him a plate stacked with peanut butter & banana pancakes top

Sasha's POVAvery moved close to me and discarded my vest, I had long ago discarded my jacket and tie and undid the top few buttons of my shirt. She slowly undid the rest of the buttons on my shirt and ran an open palm across my chest. I was having an out of body moment, I couldn’t believe this wasmywife. This was the woman I had married and she was going to be with me forever. She undid my belt and the clasp that held my pants up. As soon as she let go of them, the pants fell to the ground, pooling at my feet. She smiled as she looked at my new underwear. She wasn’t the only one who could splurge on fancy underthings.‘Damn Kuzco’ she exclaimed, using the nickname my teammates had graced me with, ‘Versace?’ she questioned arching an eyebrow up, a grin stretching across her gorgeous face. She put her index finger under the distinctive band and ran it back and forth against my pelvis.

At 4h30 a stretched SUV picked us up from Sam's to bring us to my wedding. My heart sped up in excitement at seeing my groom and of having all the attention drawn to us. Kate did a few little touch ups as we entered the hall and the music promptly began playing at 5pm. I smiled as an instrumental version of Heart’s Alone began to play. Grace and Carter walked to the front of the room followed by Shae and Sam, Dmitry, Kate and Katya. It was finally my turn to walk down the aisle. As soon as I walked into the warm cozy room everyone stood up. I felt myself blush at all the attention I was getting but once I met Sasha’s eyes everything around me faded away. His piercing gaze took me in and he quickly wiped his eyes. I tried to keep my own tears at bay taking jagged sobbing breaths as I joined him up at the makeshift altar, his tears now freely running down his cheeks faster than he could wipe them away. Dmitry handed him a handkerchief as people laughed slightly a

On the 26th Celina invited Sasha and I to the venue to approve of the decoration at the hall we had booked. Sasha and I gasped in shock as we walked into our wedding reception. The floor to ceiling windows looked out into a valley of snow covered evergreens, the walls and ceiling were all finished in rustic wood. A large glass chandelier hung in the center of the cathedral ceiling, emitting a soft golden glow in the room. On the far wall a large stone fireplace sat majestically where I imagined we would have a roaring fire the next day. The table of honour was set up proudly on a platform at the right of the fireplace while all the other tables were to the left of it. Directly in front of the fireplace was an empty area which would become a dance floor later on in the evening. More tables were set up further away from the fireplace meant for food and drinks. The chairs were covered with a forest green material, while the tables were covere

I spent the week jotting down notes and reviewing more of Anna’s recommendations. Sasha and I had narrowed down a few venues and a wedding planner but he insisted on being completely responsible for the DJ. We sent our choices to Anna who booked everything we had agreed on and footed the bill. The next weekend Sasha and I worked on our guest list to get a better idea of which venue to choose. We both decided to have a small intimate wedding since we had both enjoyed the intimacy of Dmitry and Kate’s wedding and the fact that they were able to enjoy their day too.‘Do you want to invite everyone in your family?’ I asked ‘Aunts, uncles, cousins’ I enumerated.‘My parents and brothers and my uncle Igor and his family in Michigan’ he said.‘That’s it?’ I asked stunned,‘I only have one uncle,’ Sasha said, shrugging.

  • Malyshka   Chapter 49

Baby, husband, house and businesses aside, fourth year was a tough one for Kate and I as we delved into critical care nursing. We had a jam packed schedule with hardly a moment to take a breath. I skipped running with Sasha more often than I should and we hardly saw each other as his hockey practices became more serious and frequent. Sasha planned on making his last year in the AHL a good one, one where he could finally bring home the Calder cup. However, something in his tone hinted at the KHL and maybe another season at the AHL. I made it clear that I supported him no matter what decision he made, even if it meant going to Russia for a few years.I did not take many shifts at the restaurant as I tried to keep my head above water with homework, clinicals and housekeeping. I didn’t want to make Sasha feel like he was unimportant either, so I tried to go to as many of his games as I could without hindering my university performance. I still relied on

Third year nursing meant that we were doing clinicals in acute settings in the hospital. I was particularly fond of the surgical and maternity units. Kate however did not enjoy her maternity rotation, seeing all the things her body was about to go through freaked her out a little. It didn't help that her first maternity patient had a 3rd degree perineum tear and her second one had to have an emergency C-section with hysterectomy as her uterus had ruptured beyond repair. Despite being terrified of giving birth, her pregnancy was textbook perfect. She was only gaining baby weight, her blood pressure and sugars were normal and she didn’t experience any morning sickness. A lot of it probably had to do with her and Dmitry’s regimen of working out and healthy eating. The year wrapped up nicely as did Sasha’s season. Though they didn’t make it to the finals again that year, he had been bearable throughout the playoffs. In

Dmitry POVEven though the team didn’t make it to the finals, I was offered the head trainer position on a 2 year contract. I accepted without second thoughts. My dream was not to be a hockey trainer, but a boxing and MMA trainer. I wanted to open up a gym here and the head trainer position would help me get there. Two years was plenty of time for me to get a decent sum of money and get my dream on track.I was able to get a decent sign on bonus to put a down deposit on a house a few streets away from Sasha and Avery’s before the end of the summer. It didn't take me long to ask Kate to move in with me. She was a perfect little girlfriend, my little princess, and I wanted to see her everyday despite our hectic schedule. Her and Avery were about to start on their third year of nursing and I figured it would be just as advantageous for them to live close together as it was for Sasha and I to be within walking distance of each othe

Sam never asked why I was staying at his place, but he let me stay there nonetheless. He and Janice had just returned from a trip to Costa Rica. They had been seeing each other since she took the job at the diner. They were an odd couple to say the least. Janice was always so happy and easy going whereas Sam had always been the eternal bachelor in my mind. They lived separately, but Sam was often staying the night at Janice’s. He came back to do some work and enjoy his alone time. I worked closely with Janice at the diner to oversee all the changes she had made and I was impressed with her level of dedication to the place.‘Are you going to Sasha’s game Friday?’ Sam asked when I got to his place a few days later.‘Yes, I always go to his home games’ I answered.‘It’s just he dropped off tickets earlier for Peter, Jamie and I, but not for you’ he said with a raised brow.‘Oh… that’s w

We were finally in the exam period, and Sasha's team had made it to the playoffs. The tension at home was palpable, it was Sasha vs. everyone and we were all on edge. Dmitry and I did our best to stay out of Sasha’s way, but unlike me, Dmitry was quick to put Sasha in his place when he took out his frustration on either one of us. Sasha was short tempered, irritable and exhausted. He did not do well with stress, that much was obvious. He was never aggressive on purpose but he did not hold back what he was thinking. The exam period spanned over two weeks. My first exam was scheduled the day after Sasha’s first playoff game. I wanted to be supportive of his career so I made sure to attend his home games. I knew they were his most important games. I spent the week leading up to them studying so that I could attend the night before. I sat with my brothers and cheered on with them as his team won the first game of the quarter finals. Sasha wa
