To my gratification, they decided we were going to walk over there instead of teleporting.

We walked through a forest. It took us at least 10 minutes before I could see something that could be a cabin. As we got closer, there were several wolves and humans around, though I was pretty sure that they were wolves too.

A guy that had a sturdy build and ginger hair walked up to Jax.

“I heard everything Abigail said to you. I may not like you, but you have my alliance and the pack. We need to come up with a plan to get Leah and Seth out of the house. Abigail is watching them like hawks now. Leah’s in no state of doing anything, so I couldn’t get her out and Seth didn’t want to leave her alone in the house, considering everything.”

At first I thought he may be the alpha, as I had been told that they were the only ones that were allowed to speak for the pack but as the guy continued, I realised it must be Mark, their friend that can’t shift.

I took a few steps closer so that I could get a better look at him. Suddenly he sniffed the air and looked around, his eyes meeting mine.

I just stood there staring back at him. All my thoughts had disintegrated. I had never had any interest in guys, but this was different. I couldn’t quite explain it, but I was drawn to him somehow.

“Hello, who are you?,” Mark said without taking his eyes off me.

“I’m here to get your wolf back”, I said, feeling awkward while getting lost in his green eyes. In a way, he reminded me of Luna. He could have been her brother.

In a distance, someone cleared their throat and broke whatever spell that had come over me. I quickly shifted my gaze to the ground, but I could still feel Mark’s eyes on me..

“Mark, this is Sky from the Witch village. And as you already seem to know, this is Mark, who lost his ability to shift because of something Abigail did to him.”, Jax said.

Jax’s words seemed to snap Mark back to reality, and he looked over at Jax.

“I need to go, Abigail will start wondering where I am soon.”

I watched as Mark walked away before Cassie grabbed my hand and led me back to the house.

When we got back inside. Jax told me to follow him upstairs. I gave Cassie a worrying look, but she just smiled back reassuringly.

I followed Jax and ended up in an empty bedroom.

“What would you like?” Jax asked me.

I looked around the empty room, I was so confused, why was he asking me what I would like?

“This would be your bedroom. I can conjure up anything you like. So what would you like to have in the room?”

I continued to stare at him, still not sure what he was asking me. Suddenly a bed appeared from nowhere and made me jump. My gaze wandered around the room, trying to figure out where the bed had come from. Suddenly, a light went on in my head. He could make things appear from nothing.

“A desk and a wardrobe would be great,” I said, and watched with amazement as they appeared.

It was a very handy ability to have. It made me think back to my own magic. I never had a proper chance to learn it, I only ever had time to scratch the surface. I hoped we would find a way to get it back.

Jax left me in the room, probably sensing that I needed some alone time to process everything that had happened. I laid down on the bed and I must have fallen asleep.

I woke up from a knock on my door. It was strange to have my own room again.

“Come in.”

Cassie walked into the room. She was carrying a bunch of clothes.

“Hopefully, some of these clothes will fit you.” She said as she placed them on the chair.

“Come, let me show you how the shower works.”

I got up from the bed and followed Cassie to the bathroom. She showed me what to do and left me to it.

A while late I walked downstairs and got greeted by Cassie in the kitchen. She asked me if I knew how to cook. I looked at her with a questioning look. Did she think I came from the stone age, of course I knew how to cook.

There was only a slight problem, everything was in containers and I had never cooked pancakes before. Eventually we had located everything we needed to make pancakes. I watched as Cassie mixed everything together and poured the mix into a pan.

We were in the middle of the cooking when Jax came into the kitchen. When we had finished and had a big stack of pancakes, we brought them over to the table.

After we finished eating, I remembered that I needed to talk to Leaf.

“Do you have a scrying bowl I can borrow?”

Jax looked at me a bit confused, “I thought you didn’t have any magic?”

“I don’t but I promised Leaf I would let her know that we have arrived safely.”

“Unfortunately, I don’t have the ability to scry,” Jax said apologetically.

“But I do,” Cassie said excitingly. “It’s very new, so I don’t know if I will be able to get it to work, but I’m willing to give it a go.”

She looked very pleased with herself. I didn’t have the heart to tell her it wasn’t needed and that the stone would work on its own. All you needed to do was think about the person you wanted to talk to.

“Don’t worry, I will guide you through it.” I told her as I gave her a smile.

I gathered the magical stone that Leaf gave me and placed it together with some water in the scrying bowl that Jax had conjured up before he left.

I wanted to boost Cassie’s confidence, so I told her to concentrate. Making a ‘videocall’ was easier than scrying, especially with the help of a magical stone.

It would be harder as Cassie didn’t know Leaf, but then I remembered Leaf was technically Cassie’s daughter. I took Cassie’s hand and told her to concentrate on her daughter.

She looked at me, a bit confused at first, but seemed to understand what I meant.

After the second try, the water seemed to vibrate, and the Leaf’s face turned up.

“I take it you all got there okay,” Leaf said from the water.

Cassie froze, staring at Leaf’s reflection.

“Leaf meet Cassie, she’s Katie reincarnated.”

I watched as Leaf’s eyes lit up.

“It is an honour to meet the soul that belonged to my mother,“ she said.

Cassie still seemed mesmerized, “Hi Leaf, l can’t believe you’re a grown woman.”

Leaf just laughed at her. “I must go, but please let me know if there is anything I can do to help on my end. Take care of each other.”

A second later the picture disappeared, and we were staring at the bottom of the bowl.

“I can’t believe that’s my daughter,” Cassie said absentmindedly. I wasn’t sure if she was talking to me. She seemed happy, though.

“Is this what you used to talk to each other in the village?”

“Yeah, well, the village isn’t that big, so we didn’t have to use it very often.”

“What about phones?”

I wrinkled my nose, confused by what she was talking about.

“What’s phone’s?” I had never heard of phones before.”

Cassie pulled something up from her pocket and handed it to me. It was a thin piece of plastic with a glass screen. She pressed a button and the whole screen lit up. That was crazy.

“How do you use this to connect with people?”

She showed me different things on the phone and then started talking about computers and the internet. It was so much information that I struggled to wrap my head around it.

Cassie spent the afternoon showing me common things that existed in this world. I tried to explain about my world. We didn’t have anything this advanced. Even electricity was frowned upon as it interfered with our magic.

Eventually we sat down on the sofa in the living room, and Cassie turned on the TV. I walked up to the TV, astonished at how pictures could just appear on a piece of glass at the press of a button. But I guess it was like scrying in a way.

A while later Jax walked into the living room and sat down next to Cassie, I overheard them talking.

“Leah is still asleep, she has not woken up yet,” Cassie told Jax worryingly.

He took her hands in his. “Leah used a lot of magic and moving through different dimensions takes a lot out of you, especially if you’re not used to it.”

Cassie still did not look convinced. I couldn’t help myself.

“He’s right, you know. Magic is a wonderful thing, but it drains you, especially if you haven’t learned how to control it.”

Jax gave me a grateful look. “As soon as Leah wakes up, Mark will let us know and we can proceed at getting them out of the house. In the meantime, all we can do is come up with ideas on how to get them all out of there without raising suspicion.”

“Won’t Abigail come after you when she realises they’re gone?” I asked with concern.

No one replied, and after a while we had all gone back to watching the TV. An hour later, we could hear howling coming from the woods. It put me on edge, especially after seeing Jax’s reaction to it. He was worried. He told us to stay inside before he disappears from the living room.

Based on his reaction, me and Cassie decided it was better if we went upstairs as we would be less exposed there.

When we got outside, I hooked my arm in Mark’s as he led me in the opposite direction of Jax’s house. The Sun was high in the sky, and even though it was most definitely autumn here, it was a nice sunny day. I looked around the landscape. The trees looked slightly bare as they had started to lose all their leaves. The leaves laid scattered on the ground, creating a carpet of yellow, red and brown colours.Mark halted. There was a fork in the path we had been walking. He looked between the two paths, a smile tugging at his lips.“Come on, I want to show you something,” he said as he led me down one of the paths. We continued walking in silence for a while. My mind preoccupied with the beauty of the forest and what Mark was planning on showing me.“What’s your world like? Do you hav

We walked through the forest in an awkward silence. There were so many things to consider and digest. How could I commit to the mate bond, knowing that I have less than ten years to live if I didn’t get my magic back? I could not do that to Mark, I couldn’t bind myself to Mark until I had figured out how to get my magic back. Who knows what Abigail was capable of, especially as she worked under Hecate. I knew I was ready to die fighting for my magic, but I wasn’t willing to risk Mark’s life. After a while, small wooden houses appeared between the trees. I stopped and looked around. The houses blended in perfectly with the trees and it was hard to see them. Mark stopped and turned back towards me.“This is where the wolves

Leah and Cassie had cooked up a massive breakfast feast, which surprised me considering everything that had happened. When we finished eating, Jax spoke up.“I understand you guys are all eager to go back to school.” He looked around the table with a serious face. Noone met his gaze and you could cut the tension with a knife. Several moments of silence followed.“I’m not,” Seth said with a smile.“Well then, you can stay with the wolves,” Mark said firmly, before looking over at Jax for him to continue.“I don’t like it, but as Abigail is taken care of, there shouldn’t be any major reasons why you ca

He needed to understand how desperate I was to question Abigail. Jax had said that he would question her himself, but he wouldn’t know the right things to ask. Most of her bones had been broken, and it was speculated that she had taken a hit from a stone wall or maybe the ceiling falling on top of her.The high priestess was still alive, but in terrible shape. Part of me wished she would die. She deserved it for what she had put us through.
