Worry barely scratched the surface of what I felt when Miguel called me to tell me they were being attacked. I drove as fast as I could to the address he texted me. I wasn't fast enough, I thought, as I kept being stopped by unnecessary roadblocks along the way.

When asked to slow down, the kind police officer would tell me, "There's a roadblock ahead with an accident along the way you're going."

Most times I didn't wait for them to finish; I just drove off. Philippe sat beside me with his hand on the dashboard, making me feel as though I was driving too fast when I could.

When my eyes turned back to the road, I saw yet another traffic point. I hit the steering wheel in anger and desperately searched for a shortcut. There wasn't any, I realized after looking around for several moments. I tried to keep myself together as my mind swirled with different possibilities.

If they were being hit constantly by a van, it was only a matter of time before they were forced to come out
