HURTFUL WORDS

Evelyn stood in front of the mirror, adjusting her outfit nervously. Tonight was her dinner with Dylan, a mix of excitement and apprehension fluttering in her stomach.

As she smoothed down her dress, she heard a knock on her door and turned to see her brother Ethan standing there, arms crossed with a concerned expression.

"Evelyn, are you sure about this?"

Ethan asked, his tone gentle but firm.

"You barely know this guy."

Evelyn sighed, knowing her brother's protective nature all too well.

"I'll be fine, Ethan. Dylan seems nice, and I had a good time with him at Kylie's wedding."

"But that's different,"

Ethan persisted.

"You're going out alone with him now."

Before Evelyn could respond, their father appeared in the doorway, holding out a small box.

"I believe this belonged to your mother,"

he said softly, handing Evelyn a delicate necklace.

"She wore it on our first dinner at La Petite Rose."
