THE FINAL TRUTH

Evelyn sat on the edge of the bed, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. The room was dim, the only light coming from a small bedside lamp that cast long shadows on the walls.

Dominic stood across from her, his posture rigid, and his eyes filled with a mix of anger and concern.

"Why did you go to see Angelina?"

Dominic's voice was low but edged with frustration. He hadn't taken his eyes off her since she walked into the room, and his intense glare made her feel like she was under a spotlight.

Evelyn took a deep breath, trying to steady her emotions.

"I had to see her, Dominic. I had to know if she was okay."

"You had to know?"
