CHAPTER 6

"I'll give you a moment to clear out your locker alone. The classes are going on now, so you have enough time to get what you want and leave without any drama" The school principal, Miss Johnson, said to me after my mother told her on the phone that I was leaving school.

By now I'm guessing half of the parents in the pack would've heard about the drama between my parents.

I told her to plead with Miss Johnson to make my move as stealthy as possible, because I knew how much mockery I was going to get if the other students knew I was leaving.

"I heard about what was going on between you and the other students," she said behind me as we walked to my locker. "You lost so much weight," she added after I didn't say anything.

She knew about it.

The whole school knew about my bullying but no one did anything about it, they rather enjoyed it.

"I'm sorry I couldn't do anything about it, and I'm sorry about your parents" she said.

"I heard your father found his mate. Do you know her?" She asked and I knew that I was fed up at that time.

"I can take it from here Miss Johnson" I said as I stopped walking, I was tired of hearing her talk already.

"What?" She almost bumped into me as she had been too engrossed in the gossip she thought she was about to hear.

"I can walk to my locker from here" I told her and she nodded.

"Right" she pursed her lips and stopped walking.

“You don’t want to say bye to your friend?” She called after me as I walked away

“I’d rather not Miss Johnson.” I said to her before adding more steps to my walk.

“Alright, just go clean out your locker. I’ll be waiting for you outside” she said but I ignored her, I was already too tired to talk.

As I cleaned my locker, I saw the pictures of me and Lucy together.

The ones on some of our hikings and small outings, and I noticed something.

I was always behind in every picture and my smiles were forced.

Sighing, I squeezed the picture one after the other in my hand, letting them scrunch into a ball before throwing them in the trash.

"You're finally taking my advice?" Someone said from behind me and my movements froze.

Even inside my sleep l knew that voice.

The reason for my tears these past few days.

The week it took for my life to crumble.

I sighed, ignored him and continued to pack my books from my locker.

He was standing behind me and I was sure I could hear him breathing, he could hear mine and hear my heartbeat I was sure.

“Why are you cleaning that out?” He asked after a while of silence, I ignored him and continued to take out my properties.

I was almost done.

"You're changing schools?" He was right behind me now and my breath caught in my throat.

His smell, his warmth, him.

I mentally slapped myself back to my senses and stepped away from him as gently as I could, before walking away towards the entrance of the school.

"Is it because of Spencer and the rest? I can have them punished if you want" he was walking behind me now.

Why was he trying to help me now, when a few days ago he told me I didn't belong here.

"Is that what Lucy said to you? We're not an item, she just made up stories"

Why would he think I cared? He fucked her after all or did he know that I liked him?

Did Lucy tell him?

Caine just confirmed to me that they were not dating.

Why would she lie to me just to hurt me?

Mrs Elena's words came back to me "She's just been horrible to you"

Was Lucy truly my friend?

"You should be in detention Creek, you are still not off the Alpha's hook" Miss Johnson yelled at him as she saw him coming behind me.

"Can you just talk to me?" Caine's voice dropped to a whisper as we approached the woman.

Miss Johnson quickly saved me as she stepped up between us, stopping him from coming any closer to me.

“Walk away from her Creek, you’re never up to no good” she warned him.

"Miss Johnson, I just need a minute with her" he pleaded and my eyes widened to hear Caine begging to talk to me.

Never in my wildest dreams did I expect that.

"No! Go back to detention or I will have it doubled" she threatened.

Caine ran his fist through his hair in what looked like a gesture of frustration.

"Fuck!" He cussed.

"I'm adding a week" Miss Johnson told him and he stared at her with those cold gray eyes of his angrily.

"Gigi" my mouth nearly dropped as he called her by her real name.

"Two more weeks Creek. Leave now before I call the cops on you. I wonder what the Alpha will say about that?"

They both had a stare off competition before Caine gave up and walked away in rage.

I just stood watching both of them.

Miss Gigi Johnson was the second person to ever stand up for me and it was against my biggest bully.

"Stupid ass punk" she sighed and arranged her suit before leading me to the taxi that would take me home to my mother.

Later that evening, I shut the door of the truck and put on my seatbelt, giving the house I lived in for seventeen years one last look.

I didn't know if I was going to miss it or this pack of the town at all.

As she pulled out, I hoped my father would be standing behind us smiling and telling me goodbye, so I decided to turn and give the house another last look and pray that my wish came through.

But I was met with another surprise.

Caine was at my house, staring at the truck drive away instead of my dad.

Our eyes met each other's and he stared at me for too long, looking like he had something to say.

He made a move like he wanted to run after our truck.

I turned away and never looked back.

JASMINEThe silence that followed was deafening, almost scaring me out of my position. Caine stood before me, eyes seeing around like he’d just found a lost treasure. “I’m searching for Lucy. Any idea where she might be?” I asked, exchanging glances with the rest of the group. “Errands,” Caine replied. His voice sounded thicker and deeper than the last time we spoke. “Ohh…when she returns please tell her I stopped by,” I said to him and turned to leave. “Jasmine,” he called. I halted in my tracks and turned to him. He seemed to be contemplating approaching me. At first I thought he was seeking approval from the rest of the gang. Hell no. He was freaking Caine Creek. He didn’t need anyone’s approval. He gestured for them to leave, which they did. “You…just show up from nowhere after how many years?” He asked, covering the gap between us. There was no need to be scared this time. I was better than the last time we stood this close. The closer he got, the harder my heart raced. I

JASMINEThe tension between us was undeniable and I cursed myself for even acknowledging it. Caine leaned against the door frame, shirtless with his hands folded across his chest. His eyes scanned me all over again, like he was trying to figure me out all over again. “I’ll wait outside then,” I said to him and turned around to leave. “Maybe you haven’t heard but the pack is not as safe as when you left. We get surprise attacks at any time of the day. People go missing, dead bodies sprawl out of the ground almost every morning yet, no one has answers to these happenings,”“I’ll advise you to come in and wait,” he finally made his point. I won’t lie, the mention of getting attacked at any time of the day sent my heart racing. With a deep, regrettable sigh, I took another turn and made my way into the house. He locked the door and joined me shortly after putting on a shirt. The room was surprisingly clean for a guy like Caine. He wasn’t this arranged six years ago. I perched at the ed

JASMINEThe room erupted into chaos. Everyone shot up from their seats, the chairs screeching as we hurried towards Spencer. Caine led the way, getting to Spencer before the rest of us. “What happened?” He asked, helping him in. I checked outside the door to confirm there was no one else out there. It was clear. “The diner,” Spencer choked on his blood. “He needs to be attended to. Clear the table,” I assisted Caine to carry him. The rest stood, looking at me to confirm if I was actually dishing out orders to them. “You heard her!” Caine barked as we hurried across the room carrying Spencer. Imani and Jojo cleared the table, giving me the opportunity to get down to a work I had learnt on my own and practiced with Bryan. “Take his clothes off,” I told Jojo before rushing to get a bowl of water. After my mother moved in with her new family, her whole attention focused on them, I found ways to defend myself. I learnt how to stand up for myself, defend myself and treat my wounds. I

I’ve barely been back here and they won’t let me breathe properly. As my vision cleared, so did my hearing. It wasn’t just chattering. They were moans. Loud and clear. The girl…sounded so much like Imani. But I recalled the tone of the voice that knocked me into unconsciousness. It was masculine. “Right there Jerry,” the Imani moaned, loud kisses following after. Why did she sound like he was torturing her. To mage it worst, they were in plain sight, having sex infront of me. Couldn’t they hold themselves until they got somewhere closed? And what wasn’t I understanding? Imani is supposed to be with Jojo. Or did something change in their cycle of relationships? She went down on her knees, taking in his cock which just slipped out of her vagina. JASMINEI froze on my seat, my fork clattering as it fell on my plate. Caine Creek! Of all people my father had to choose him? My mind raced, piecing together every awkward moment were spent together since I returned. It seemed like the more I tried to avoid him, the more he got involved in my business. “Father, you can’t be serious,” I objected, pushing my way away from the seat. His brows furrowed, but he kept his voice calm. “Jasmine, Caine is your best shot at getting control over your wolf. You can’t keep depending on…this,” he referred to the wolf guide. “Moreover it’s an honor to have the son of the alpha be your personal trainer,” “What…” I swallowed my next words after my voice took a higher pitch. I pulled my father to a side of the house backing the door and muttered in low tones. “What honor? Caine is so close to Lucy and the last thing I want is getting caught up in some drama,” “Are you looking at what you stand to gain or what training with Caine would cause you?”

Yes, a joke, but I found myself wanting it all to be an actual training.“I’m just kidding Jasmine,” he chuckled, sending a wave of relief down my nerves. I swallowed so hard that I feared he heard it. “Really, Caine?” I blurted. “So much of “he’s a changed boy,” I mimicked my fathers tone with a voice below a whisper. I corked a brow as he lifted his face, hanging his belt on his shoulder. “There are rules. First…” he said, his tone firm. “You’ll show up on time. No excuses. Second…you’ll do exactly as I say. When I say run, you run. When I tell you to fight, you fight. Thirdly, every wolf in our age bracket is to get a job. “Answer the question, Imani,” Jojo fired. It wasn’t a scene I enjoyed—watching Jojo being so “alpha-male ish” before Imani. I saw the way she was fidgeting. It was obvious she feared jojo. It was something more than his physical appearance which made him look like a Greek god. “Why would you believe the words of jasmine?” Imani asked. Her courage was building up, and you couldn't help but stare and enjoy the show. The rest of the group joined us at the pool after hearing Jojo's voice. They knew better than to interfere with whatever it was. “I have to get back home,” I muttered , breaking the silence growing at the pool as my work there was gone. “You’re going nowhere until you explain what you said to Imani,” Jojo hurried to my front and stood in my way. LUCY’S POV Silence. It hovered in the car like a fourth passenger, safe from Caine’s loud thoughts. I sat beside him, my eyes hours on his wavering expression and demeanor. He was confused and it had something to do with what Jasmine must have told him. I didn’t utter a word to him or the sheriff. All the while, Bryan sat in front, staring outside the window. I couldn’t wait for us to arrive at our destination so we’ll get down to what’s next on our board now Jasmine and her family are out of the way. After taking several turns she routes through the dark, we finally drove up the hilly street that led directly to the alphas mansion. With the lights highlighting the large gates, I could see the Alpha waiting beside his car. He didn’t wait for us to arrive before he started walking towards the car. The sheriff finally came to a halt at the gate, and Caine hurriedly came down. “Baby, wait…” I attempted to go after him. Even his father who had been waiting for his safe arrival

JASMINES POV My great breath hitched, panic flaring through my chest as I watched Caine fall through the glass. For a moment I thought Natalia had lost her mind. She had just shoved him like he was a piece of object. “Why would you do that!” I yelled and raced to the window. It wasn't until I stared out of the shattered glass that my eyes widened in realization. Nina and Daria stood below, their expressions tense but focused. I saw someone putting Caine into the car, but I didn’t see who it was. “What are you waiting for? That’s the only way out of here,” Natalia snapped me out. I sighed, turning back to Father. His expression seemed like he was in support of her idea for me to jump. We are wolves by the way, what’s the worst that could happen? A fractured bone that would heal in seconds? “And what happens to you?” “This isn’t your fight anymore,” she answered. “Go, jump,” my dad urged me. I tried to move, but my limbs felt heavy, pinned by an invisible weight. “Jasmine!” My mother’s voice was distant, filled with terror. I turned my head slowly, my vision swimming with bright hospital lights and shattered glass. My father lay a few feet away, motionless. I gasped, pushing through the pain to crawl toward him. My fingers trembled as I reached out, barely touching his hand. “Dad…” My voice was hoarse, barely a whisper. He groaned, stirring on the floor as his face turned to me. “Jasmine,” he called faintly. A sigh of relief left my lips, he was alive. But for how long? “He’s breathing,” I assured my mother. Relief fought against my rising fear. My father was alive, but for how long? I turned my head toward my mother, who was groaning as she tried to sit up. Blood trickled down her forehead. “Can

LUCY'S POVI stood at the door of Alpha Morgan, waiting to know what their final resolution was. My ears were wide open, eavesdropping on their conversation. They were taking so much time, and time wasn’t on my side either. Alpha Morgan glanced at me in a manner that made me feel like he knew I was eavesdropping on their conversation. He inched closer to the sheriff and whispered something into his ear, something I didn’t quite get. My heart sank as the sheriff turned and started walking towards me, his expression unreadable. I straightened my posture, forcing a calm expression on my face even though my hands were clenched into fists at my sides.“Lucy,” he called, stealing one more glance at Alpha Morgan who had taken his chair and was watching the two of us. “You may go,” he said. A heavy sigh of relief left my lips, my hand pretentiously resting on my chest. “You almost got me, sheriff. For a moment I feared you would believe those lies she told,” I muttered as I grabbed my bag

My mind raced with panic, trying to figure out what to do next.I glanced over my shoulder again. He wasn’t even trying to hide it now—his eyes locked on me, his pace deliberate and steady. My stomach twisted in knots as I realized I couldn’t outpace him like this.I ducked into an alley, the shadows swallowing me whole. My breath came in short, shallow bursts as I pressed my back against the cold brick wall. I strained my ears, listening for his footsteps. There they were. Closer now.“Fuck!” I cursed under my breath, bursting into a race. I reached for my phone mid-race, but I couldn’t get a view of my screen with the amount of wind seeping into my eye. It slipped out of my hand and fell, bringing me to an abrupt halt. One mistake I made. As I bent over to pick up the phone, he caught up with me,

JASMINES POVI stood at the base of the stairs, watching Livy ascend with her legs shaking with every step she took up. A feeling of relief coursed through me, at least she’d get a draw for what she did—or what she was doing. I still couldn’t quite understand how or when she became this person. Yes. I’d seen signs before, but I overlooked them, believing she was doing it intentionally. “I’ll see Jasmine off,” Caine’s brother said, attempting to walk past them. “I can walk by myself. I’ll find my way out,” I muttered, slowly turning around and walking away from the building. I fought the urge to glance back at what was going on until I was outside the walls of the alpha mansion. The car that was supposed to drive me back home was already waiting at the front of the building, with the back window winding down. I glanced at the driver, whose expression was screaming at me to enter the car and stop wasting his time. I moved to his side of the window and knocked. “I’ll walk,” I said a

JASMINES POV I sat in silence at the back of the car, my eyes fixed on nature's scenery outside the window as the car drove down the road. We passed the pack house, heading for the alpha mansion. Even with my gaze fixed outside the window, I could still feel the sheriff's eyes on me. The one time I stole a glance at the rear, I caught him staring. He didn’t even care if I caught him, his eyes didn’t waiver for the slightest second. The air was getting tight and thick, making the car space uncomfortable for me. I shifted uneasily in my seat, trying to ignore the intensity of the sheriff’s gaze. My wolf growled faintly in the back of my mind, sensing my unease. The car finally pulled into the long driveway leading to Alpha Morgan King’s mansion. The estate was as grand and imposing as I’d heard—tall iron gates, perfectly manicured lawns, and a towering structure that seemed to loom over everything around it. As the car came to a stop, the sheriff stepped out first, opening the do

JASMINES POV The ride home was silent, with my father occasionally glancing at me through the rearview mirror. I kept my gaze fixed on the passing scenery, replaying the scene at the hospital in my head. Caine’s words, or rather the lack of them, echoed painfully in my chest. “Caine’s gone,” I’d said to my father earlier, but now that reality was sinking deeper, it felt like a knife twisting in my heart. When we finally arrived home, I went straight to my room, dropping the untouched flask on the bedside table. My wolf growled softly in my mind, restless and agitated, but I silenced her with a deep breath. I couldn’t let my emotions spiral out of control—not yet. I stared back at the flask, wondering if I shouldn’t have left. Maybe I should have stayed back to fight for what rightfully belongs to me—to fight for Caine’s love. But to what end? Even when he was still with his memory, he didn’t love me as much as he said. And now, with his memories gone, what difference would it m

JASMINES POVI didn’t know if I should walk up to him or stand by and watch where he was going. It felt awkward, seeing him him here. He made a turn to the left, leaving my sight immediately. I attempted to go after him but froze mid-way. “We probably shouldn’t be seeing each other at this moment…” I thought. I retraced my steps back to Caine’s room. With a deep breath, I pulled the knob and strode in. I froze at the door when I spotted Lucy. She was sitting at the edge of the bed, tendering to his legs like she owned that part of his body. “Lucy,” I called with a heavy breath, forcing a smile to hide the gut-wrenching pain that struck my heart. “I didn’t expect to see you here,”“Jasmine,” she called in return, slipping out of the bed, being careful enough not to wake Caine. He looked so peaceful at sleep, and I wondered what must have gone down the past two days of my absence. Lucy’s eyes darted to the flask in my hand, and she smirked. “Figured someone had to take care of him
