Evening came, yet Hope still didn’t return. Solene had deemed her to be a good friend, so she couldn’t help but be worried for her. Dinner came also, brought by a female hotel staff. She tried to ask about Hope’s whereabouts, but the staff only shook her head.

Despite not having an appetite, Solene ate the served meal on the table. One thing she learned while in Gehenna, it was the scarcity of food. It was a luxury here and to be served one in a cozy room, in a warm bed, was a miracle already.

Once done eating, Solene contemplated going down and search for Hope herself but opted out of it in the end. Zaraat and his lackeys might still look for her, and there was no telling Lilith would pinpoint her location. Plus, it was already nighttime. Hope said so herself there were still monsters roaming around even in a pardoned place like this.

The waiting time was long and lonely. Solene tried to be as determined as she could, but drowsin

The answer to Solene’s many questions. The color of Hope’s hair—a silken shade of obsidian—and her gray-green eyes that stare right through her soul; her height and the way she behaved...these were all telltale signs that Solene was in fact mingling with her supernatural husband. They were all real and not a dream anymore. But Solene couldn’t help but question too, was this just another mind-twisting attempt by Gehenna? Chapter 16 – The Queen RegretsWith most of Hope’s powers locked up in exchange for entering Gehenna, it incapacitated her. She hated it. She cursed the arrangement. However, it was a necessary sacrifice in order to save Solene—or at least that was the original idea. Now, as the cyclops beast pulled her away, she gritted her teeth and retaliated by summoning lightning bolts around her. At the contact, this made the cyclops growl in pain. Its hold loosened. Hope used this to her advantage and wiggled down. Finally, she escaped from the enclosure and landed with ease on the rubble-covered ground. In haste, she directed her attention to Solene who was just in time captured by a humanoid, scaly monster. Its snake-like hand coiled around Solene, making her look exactly like its meal.Solene opened her mouth in a soundless shout. She stretched her arm toward Hope as if begging for help. Her eyes were wide with fear. With distr

Chapter 17 – The Queen in PrisonHard ground hit Solene’s feet as soon as the portal’s light disappeared. She adjusted her eyes, blinked it many times, until her vision was clearer. A grand room welcomed her then. A room that was larger, fancier and expensive-looking than the one she and Hope shared.Solene didn’t expect such a place existed in Gehenna, but then again, it had given her surprises for the past day with Hope’s existence and the hotel that housed repentant souls.A four-poster bed stood in front of her, draped with offending red curtains and lined with black velvet bedsheets, and pillowcases covered with gray linen. Across it was a fireplace that was already lit and gave the room warmth. Her skin was cold earlier with the night’s wind, but now, it warmed up, much to her satisfaction. There were no windows in the room or a balcony to view the outside. In fact, the walls looked like it

Chapter 18 – The Queen PlansSolene remained in her spot against the door for the next two hours. Her tears had stopped, her wet cheeks had dried from the salty liquid, but her will to stand and place herself in a better, comfortable area—a chair perhaps near the fireplace or the mattress—was lost. It didn’t matter if she was in a better situation now. She preferred to be inside a cave, in a hard ground and free than to be in a warm and cozy room and have her freedom taken away. More so, be separated by Hope. Now that she remembers her husband and his position as the ruler of the Underworld, her next task was to remember her real identity, and how she died. These were the kind of memories she needed to learn in order to understand her situation in Gehenna better. The masked demon—Caym—called her a conjurer. He wanted to learn more about her, but how could she share that when she didn’t even know he

Black dust swirled on every edge until it collected into one spot near the bed. In its center, boots appeared first, then black pants and a half-unbuttoned red shirt.Solene was sitting in a chair near the fireplace when this happened. Immediately, she stood up and tossed the unwanted visitor a scowl.Caym granted her a sneak-peek of a grin beyond his mask in reply, already expecting she’d do this. Already expecting she was unlike the other women who usually throw themselves to his feet.“Mistress Nakti is losing her touch,” he began while inclining his head to the side, inspecting her with his red eyes. “I expected you to be dressed in fine clothes, yet here you are still in y

Chapter 20 – The Queen Stands‘Oh god, Hope! Where are you?!’ Solene’s mind cried out as she undid the last remaining buttons, unclasped her brassiere and displayed her breasts as he commanded.Caym leaned down to capture one full breast. He slowly massaged it and pressed her nipple with his thumb.Solene let out a strangled moan. She abhorred his hands on her. She cursed how his fingers explored every inch of her breasts. She hated the way she was underneath him. This should have been her husband. This should have been Henri exploring intimacy with her.Painstakingly, she prohibited her tears from pooling in her eyes. She refused to look vulnerable and unstable in front of this demon. She refused to be weak in front of him.Caym stuck out his tongue and encircled her nipple. Solene felt grossed out with the way it wetted her skin. It didn’t evoke the same feeling of wonder when Henri did this to her.

Chapter 21 – The Queen WaitsWith Mistress Nakti and the servants out of her room, Hope used this time to her advantage. She changed into the gown she picked to sell her ruse—a combination of gold and silver see-through fabric that had a long slit on the left part and a provocative dip on the neckline. She placed jewelry around her neck and ears too to complete the effect—ruby red diamonds and black opal that accented her red lipstick and shiny, long black hair. She was the picture of a seductive harem woman then, and she was satisfied with this.Elevated sandals crossed the doorway as she quickly strode out. Her plan was to check Solene in all rooms of the tower, with the idea that maybe she was placed secretly in one without the mistress’ knowledge, or maybe the old woman was lying in the very beginning and just chose to withhold information from her.Whatever the cause may be, Hope was dead set to find Solene, anyway.

It was a long corridor going to the main entrance, so it was for her an ordeal—a great ordeal not to pummel this creature into smashed potatoes.Never had she been groped like this before, but of course, that was when she was still a man, and a high position one at that. She had always been respectful of women in her kingdom and in the Rantzen Family, but in Solene’s case, she admitted, she had been a lusty one and might have groped her wife’s lovely ass too from time to time during their honeymoon. However, this idiot goat was doing it too much on her and so she definitely looked forward to putting him in his rightful place—underneath her sandals, bloody and soulless. She inwardly took deep breaths and showed a fake sensual smile towards him until they reached their transport—a carriage-looking vehicle th

Chapter 53 – EpilogueLike her first wedding, Solene strode into the aisle with numerous people watching. However, on this occasion, they were all souls. The majority of them were grounded, sitting on the pews, but there were others too levitating in the air. They were all dressed in white, beige, gray, and red uniforms, signifying their designations in Sattus. However, Solene saw them not as souls without a shell, but real people with real lives, living in this realm she had come to love.As she inched closer and closer to the altar, Solene stared ahead in wonder. During their three-day stay in the Fair Silver Estate, Henri mentioned something about a surprise. This surprise was the newly built garden in Castle Vatlavus, created only for her, or as he stated—technically a renovated garden since the first one was destroyed during Caym’s attack.Immediately, Solene saw this as the perfect place to hold her second wed

Chapter 52 – The Queen’s Support Indeed, the crack in Gehenna’s barrier was large, so large that it allowed many monsters and armies of demons out. Solene expected this from Henri, though. He was a powerful man, after all. There was no denying he could destroy this section of Sattus if he really wanted to, angry or not. Partly, she felt guilty that this happened, but what else was new? She had always been the reason for the misfortunes of many people who became collateral damage or the unsuspected victim. Case in point, Cassandra, Mrs. Ingrid, Tessa, Lady Ursula, the people at the coffee shop and at the supermarket, and AC, her innocent little brother. But to feel depressive about it wasn’t the solution now. She already rose and conquered this heavy burden in her heart, and she was so ready to end this once and for all. As she neared her destination, she spotted one soul near it, trying to fix the crack with his powers. When he moved

Chapter 51 – The King of SattusWhen Henri returned to Sattus, it only took seconds for him to know where Caym was—inside the castle, in Solene's room, where she hadn't even seen yet. He was trying to conceal his presence, but to no avail. It was pathetic. It was laughable. Nothing could escape Henri's notice, especially when inside the castle. But Kelios said he was in Tartarus, supervising his army. It totally contradicted the facts, so this meant Caym was using his power of manipulation. He was certainly manipulating someone into posing as him, or he had someone transform into his likeness, or he transformed this volunteer into his clone.Whichever was the case, Henri knew this was all a trap—a trap he was more than happy to play. He instructed Kelios to pose as him too and with Jacob's help, mid-teleporting into Tartarus, Kelios changed into Henri's face and build. Even the King's great scythe was cloned all jus

Chapter 50 – The Queen’s SurpriseA series of lightning crack above the castle spires and the formation of a storm cell in the sky heralded the return of the King of Sattus. Henri materialized on top of the tallest tower with his boot hitting the pointed roof. With brows twisted, he surveyed his castle below. It was still untouched, good, but half of its surroundings were already in bad shape. There were no villages or souls on it, but the trees and the landscaped garden he created for Solene to welcome her stay in Sattus was all in ruins. There were rubbles everywhere from the pillars he erected in the garden, and most of the bushes and flowering plants were on fire. This angered him so."Your Majesty." Kelios appeared behind him and stated.Henri remained his gaze on the garden, hands clenched, and said, "Kelios, speak.""We have driven back Caym's army in Nirvana, Krusk, Bettina and Argelu, Your Majesty.

You, however, should be worried. At this moment, your husband is under Caym’s mercy, bloody and groveling for his life.”This briefly shook Solene. She trusted Henri’s capabilities as king. He was a powerful man. Caym could never rival him, but then again...what if...what if this demon was telling the truth? What if Henri was indeed on the brink of death and she wasn’t there to save him?Should she go to him then? But AC... the boy needed h

She was already awake and her body begged to move.Shifting her head up, she was greeted with this person's smile then."Henri..." she muttered and smiled back. She found herself sitting on his lap and cradled securely by his arms. They were still inside the maze's plaza, roofed with bright stars and shined by the light of the moon."Happy birthday, love. How are you feeling?" he asked and would have wanted to touch her cheek if not for Solene's sudden movement. She jerked back and shouted, "Oh, god, did I just mess up my birthday? When Solene entered the garden maze’s center plaza, she understood what the old woman meant. Not only was it held inside a maze, it was set up in a way that all the guests would circle the theta-shaped fountain. A circular symbol was drawn around it, which Solene hadn’t noticed the last time she visited this area of the estate. She couldn’t help but arch a brow. She wasn’t told how the party would flow. She was only informed by Henri to ‘prepare’ and nothing more. And by ‘prepare’ he meant to choose a dress out of the three he bought for her.Black and red. These colors were always what she favored, so when she spotted one that had these shades spread neatly on her mattress, she chose it. Patricia, her personal maid, helped her don it.
