Astrid's POV

When we pulled up to the mansion, Luca cut the engine but didn’t move to get out. He leaned back in his seat, running a hand through his hair.

“Do you want to talk about it?” he asked suddenly.

“Talk about what?” I replied, my tone sharper than intended.

“Whatever’s bothering you,” he said, turning to look at me. “You’ve been off since this morning.”

I laughed bitterly. “Maybe because I’m starting to wonder what I even mean to you, Luca.”

He flinched, the honesty in my words clearly catching him off guard.

“Astrid, you…”

“No,” I interrupted. “Don’t try to sugarcoat it. Today, I was just the family’s hacker. That’s all I’ve ever been, isn’t it? Just someone convenient to have around because I’m good at what I do.”

“That’s not true,” he said firmly, his voice laced with frustration.

“Then what am I to you, Luca?” I demanded, turning to face him fully. “Am I just another piece in your game? Someone you’ll throw away the moment I’m no longer useful?”

The silence that followed

Luca's POVI was driving, no destination in mind. The argument with Astrid replayed in my head over and over again. Her voice, her eyes, damn it. She had a way of pushing every button I didn’t know existed.I gripped the steering wheel tighter, my knuckles turning white. I wasn’t angry at her. No, I was angry at myself. How could I tell her what I was feeling without actually saying it?Love. That word wasn’t even in my vocabulary. I’ve never been in love, never even considered it. For a man like me, a mafia boss with a reputation colder than stone, it felt impossible. But with Astrid, it was different. She made me want to try.I exhaled deeply, letting the idea settle. I was going to give it a shot. For her. With her. Turning the car around, I headed back to the mansion, determination burning in my chest. When I walked in, I found my mother and sisters in the sitting room, sipping tea like it was the middle of the day instead of late at night. My mother looked up at me, her face unre

Astrid's POVWhat the hell are you doing here?” I demanded, though relief was already flooding my veins. He didn’t answer. Instead, he turned toward the man chasing me, his expression hardening.“Walk away,” Ace said, his voice low and commanding. The man hesitated, his eyes flicking between Ace and me. For a moment, I thought he might attack anyway. But then Ace reached inside his coat, pulling out a weapon. That was all it took. The man turned and fled, disappearing into the shadows. My knees felt weak, and I leaned against a nearby wall, trying to catch my breath. Ace tucked the weapon back into his coat, his sharp gaze settling on me.“You’re lucky I was nearby,” he said, his tone unreadable.“Nearby?” I repeated, suspicion flaring. “What were you doing near the café?”He raised an eyebrow. “Getting coffee, like any normal person.”“Right,” I said, crossing my arms. “And it’s just a coincidence that you happened to show up when some guy was chasing me down the street?”Ace smirked

Astrid's POV“Didn't you hear me?” Ace snapped gently. I had been lost for a moment then I remembered the person I was dealing with. It was Ace, he would do or say anything to make things go his way.“Don't ever say that to me again.” I warned him, stepping out of the car. He opened the side of the driver seat and followed me.“Why? Because I'm an enemy. Luca has really fed you good with that horrible thought. We were once allies, remember?”“I don't remember anything Ace. Whatever that has to do with you, I don't remember.” I sighed, rubbing my temples. I was getting too tired, running from a strange man, having to be with an enemy and now he couldn't stop talking trash.“I need to rest, Ace. It's been a long day.” I said, starting to regret why I left the mansion, the comfortable bed all alone.“Of course. Let's go in.” Ace said, leading the way.I hesitated. The idea of staying with Ace felt wrong, but going back to Luca’s mansion didn’t feel right either, not after everything that

Astrid's POVThe first rays of sunlight streamed through the window, but I didn’t feel the warmth. I had barely slept, and my thoughts were too chaotic to allow peace. Reluctantly, I got out of bed and made my way downstairs.I froze at the bottom step. Ace was there, deep in conversation with Helena, his personal hacker. The same Helena who I knew wanted him dead. From my hidden corner, I watched them. Ace stood close to her, trusting, oblivious to the fact that she was a snake in his garden. My mind raced. Should I tell him? Would he even believe me if I did? He had saved my life last night, dragged me out of hell, and now here I was, holding a dangerous secret about someone he trusted. Did I owe him the truth in return? Before I could decide, Helena’s sharp eyes darted in my direction. She saw me. I had no choice but to step out from the shadows.Helena’s gaze bore into mine, her lips curling into a faint, knowing smile. I didn’t trust her, and she knew it. For a moment, we just s

Luca's POVBefore Astrid walked in, I was planning with Nico to send my whole men to search for her and when they found her, I was going to tell her how I really felt about her. After receiving her text last night, I made a decision. I would confess my true feelings to her. I was ready to surrender my heart, to claim her as mine, and ensure she'd never feel the need to turn to anyone else again. But everything changed, she walked in like she had not made me feel scared and nervous about her disappearance last night. I stood there, I knew I had hurt her more than I did last night. “I thought she was gone for good. You found the bitch and brought her back, didn't you?” My sister's voice distracted my thoughts.I turned around, “I thought I warned you already to stop calling her names.” She scoffed, “Well I'm only being concerned for your sake, brother.” she said, her hands folded.“I warn you. You are being too nosy.” “So this is it, taking sides with a stranger over your own siste

Astrid's POVLuca had once again persuaded me to stay, or did he? I was only staying behind for the mission. He won't be able to get this mission done without my hacking skills. I was out of my room now, I wished I could be in there for as long as I could but something had to drag me out.Something like water. I was thirsty, yet again. I poured myself a glass of chilled water, just as I was about to close the fridge. My eyes caught a leftover bottle of liquor sitting there, chilled.I picked it up behind a bottle of milk. “Miss Astrid.” The maid's unnoticed presence sent shivers down my spine. She had startled me to death and I only relaxed after seeing her.“Sorry.” She apologized, noticing that she had almost caused me to have a heart attack. “I just wanted to know if you're having dinner with the rest of the house.” She whispered, clearly avoiding anyone from hearing her.“No, I'm having this for tonight.” I said, taking up the bottle of wine together with the glass. Astrid's POVI found myself standing outside the mansion, my breath clouding in the cold night air as I approached Luca's father. He stood with an air of ease, puffing on a cigarette that glowed faintly in the dim light of the porch. When he noticed me, he smiled. “Miss Astrid,” he greeted warmly, holding the cigarette between his fingers. “Couldn’t resist my invitation?”I hesitated. “I didn’t want to be rude.”He chuckled and extended the cigarette toward me. “Care to join me?”I shook my head, taking a step back. “No, thank you. I don’t smoke.”He raised an eyebrow, amusement flickering in his expression. “You drink, but you don’t smoke? Interesting.”I stiffened but kept my voice even. “I don’t drink all the time. Just…when I’m in a mood.”His grin widened as he tapped ash from the cigarette. “Ah, I see. We have something in common, then. I only have my brown cigarettes when I’m moody too.”I blinked at him, unsure what to say. The idea of a man like him, a wealthy, powerful figur

Luca's POVI never expected things to go easy for me. Taking down enemies like the Ivano family was a feat no one could manage without losses, yet here I was, one step closer to it, all because of Astrid's brilliance.“Where are your men? It's getting late. I need to get some sleep.” Astrid complained, dragging out a chair to sit.We were the only ones in the room, Vincent and Nico had not assembled the men just yet. I had no idea what was keeping him so long.“Why the rush? They will be here in a bit.”I assured her. She didn't respond, her eyes fixed on nothing in particular until it slightly shifted to me, and I was busy glaring at her the whole time.“Why do you keep staring?”“I can't take my eyes off a beautiful genius.”She scoffed. “Sugarcoating words doesn't suit you, I hope you know that?”“But they worked perfectly whenever we were making love.”I teased her, almost laughing at her irritated reaction but the men were starting to file into the room, each of them wearing the se

Luca’s POVIn the end, I learnt that what was meant to be will always be. Here’s me, happy with my kids and my sweetheart Astrid. If someone had told me a few years back that I’ll find a girl who had the code to my heart, I would have laughed at them and called them foolish. I just? Cos I was a hard nut to crack. I was just all about my business, conquering cities and being the boss, bloody fights etc. I had no eyes for love. But Astrid isn’t just a hacker of systems, she had the ability to even hack into hearts. She did so to mine.I stared at her, as she walked round the house trying to put one or two things in place and I couldn’t help but feel blessed. “Dang! I had it all!” I said to myself smiling sheepishly. I had my baby girl and the kids… I felt like I had the entire world under my feet. Like I could trample on anyone and everything just for my family.“What’s running through your mind? You’ve been lost in thought for a while, I noticed” she said softly with a smile.“Mum…

Luca's POVI raised my hand and slowed in my movement. "Let her go, Ace. That's not an option.A sharp, bitter laugh pierced the cold night. "Do you think I care what you do, do you think I care?”Astrid winced but said nothing. Her teeth clenched and I saw her fist clench. She was angry, but she was also scared. I couldn't blame her."You've lost, Ace," I said calmly. "Your people are gone. El Sombra's job is done for. Let Astrid go, and maybe, just maybe you can get out of here alive."Ace scoffed. "Don't insult me, Santoro. Do you think I'm afraid of you? You're the one who should beg for mercy. You have no choice."What do you think, Ace?" I asked, ignoring his sarcasm."Money? Power? You name the price, I'll make it happen. He grinned, his eyes glinted with malice. "What do I want? It's simple. I want you to leave, Luca."I frowned, my mind filled with thoughts. "What did you say?"Ace hugged Astrid tightly and leaned toward her."Kill yourself," he said in a low voice. "If you d

Luca's POVAs I stepped out of the car with Halo beside me and the rest of my men behind me. My boots crunched onto the gravel path, past the blazing warehouse along the dark road. The air smelled strongly of diesel, and in a confused, oppressive way. I felt the weight of this decision on my shoulders, but I was too far gone to turn back. This meeting was not about reconciliation. It was about drawing a line. The door opened, and a dark figure emerged. One of the eldest members of the El Sombra group. That sharp, wild smile like a knife made my blood irate.Behind him, I saw Astrid. She stood motionless, close to Ace, with an unspeakable expression on her face."Luca Santoro, you've been here a long time." One of the El Sombra members stepped forward."I'm here. Let's get started," I said."That's a brave move, Luca," Ace said, his voice filled with the arrogance I hated."You made it to the gates of El Sombra with weapons. Or should I say you're just ... scared?I didn't answer, jus

  • MY MAFIA’S CODED HEART   Chapter 111

Astrid's POVThe moonlight shone, exposing the gloomy night. I prepared to leave, I knew this would be my only chance to get away from Ace and his watchful guards. He trusted me less with every passing day, and I had to make my move before he decided to tighten his grip completely.I hung the small bag over my shoulder, tucking the paper with Luca's address into the inner pocket of my jacket. The laptop I’d used to track him was safely hidden, wiped clean of any traceable activity.I exhaled quietly as I opened the window of my room. The estate's security lights shone towards the grounds below in slow, predictable arcs.I had studied the patterns of the securities countless times, preparing for this exact day.As the lights went out steadily, I came out, clinging to the ledge as I lowered myself beneath the first floor balcony. My feet barely made any sound as they touched the tiled grounds in the balcony. I pressed against a wall, my heart pounding in haste.I waited. Some guards wer

Astrid's POVThe silence in the car on our way to Ace's house was just choking. He didn't say a word, but I knew a storm was brewing inside him. He was upset, obviously and I knew it, from the way his jaws kept clenching and unclenching every few seconds.I should be the one getting upset, not him. Not after what he did at the meeting. The minute we entered inside, I was done holding in the anger that was brewing within me."You had no right to interrupt me at that meeting," I said, wheeling back to him.Ace raised an eyebrow at me in pretended innocence. "Interrupt you? You had nothing to contribute, Astrid. You've been off your game for weeks."I crossed my arms, glaring at him. "The question they asked was directed to me and you didn't even give me a chance to answer."He leaned against the wall, an air of nonchalance, though his gaze was keen. "Alright then. What would you have said?"I froze. So fast my lie formed in my mind, I couldn't even stop it."I'd have said no," I said fi

  • MY MAFIA’S CODED HEART   Chapter 109

Astrid's POVThe room felt like the walls were closing on me, it was suffocating. Ace and the El Sombra members were deep in their scheming, voices melding together into a hum of plans I couldn't force myself to care about.I sat at the edge of the long table, my mind elsewhere as they debated how to handle Luca's inevitable encounter with El Sombra."Astrid," one of them called, breaking through my haze. "You got any input?"I blinked, my eyes rising to meet the inquiring glances of the group. I used to love these moments; my sharp mind was always one step ahead of everybody else. But now? I couldn't muster the will even to play this game."No," I said briefly, coldly. "I have nothing to add.Ace's gaze lingered on me, an edge of suspicion alive in his eyes. I gave him a well-practiced look of indifference, refusing to let him see through the fissures forming in my resolve."Excuse me," I said, suddenly standing. "I need to use the restroom."Ace didn't respond, but I felt his gaze b

Luca's POVHelena sat across from Halo and me in a dim lit room, her arms crossed tightly, a flicker of something unreadable in her eyes. The atmosphere felt almost suffocating, a thick tension that wrapped around us like a heavy cloak. Nico and Vincent leaned against the wall in the corner of the dim room, his gaze fixed on her as if trying to decode the puzzle she presented. It was a standoff, and it wasn't lost on me that I had placed myself right in the middle of it."Start talking," I said, leaning forward in my chair, elbows resting on my knees. My voice was calm, though deep down I felt a storm brewing. I needed answers, and I wasn't in any mood for games.Helena squared her shoulders, and for a second, I saw something fragile behind the iron mask. Her face was impassive, but I saw her hands flinch just a little a tell, maybe."Ace killed my father," she said, her voice even and bitter. "My father was working for one of the El Sombra members, he was a low-level enforcer.” She p

Luca's POVWe were getting closer to my secret estate where my mother and sisters are hidden. My arm throbbed faintly, a reminder of how close I’d been to losing everything. Astrid's POVAs I entered the car, my heart kept pounding and I couldn't help but fidget. Maybe I shouldn't have told the driver to stop, it was my chance to escape from all this. And it could be the last chance I get to have. The silence between Ace and I was deafening and I knew if any of us began to talk, there would be an explosion of emotions, especially from my end.Ace began, “I see you've been busy, Astrid.” he said, his tone low and suspicious. He glared but I preferred to look elsewhere, at nothing in particular, rather than stare into those stern brown eyes.“I had some issues with proceeding with the mission last night.”I simply said because narrating everything that happened between Luca and I last night was something I couldn't do.It wouldn't only make me feel more guilty than I am already but it was surely not going to get Ace to be on my good side. Whatever he wanted to do to me, he could. I wasn't scared of him.“I know that, my men informed me about how you left the
