Violet POV

I melted into him, and Clyde's lips danced against mine with every kiss sending sparks under my skin. His hands wandered over my body, touching and sending waves of heat coursing through me. Lost in him, lost in the moment, the shrill ringing of my phone cut through the haze.

We  both froze, panting, tangled into each other. That ringing was a real reality check, slicing through the passionate fog that had enveloped us.

"I should get that," I whispered, shaking, my voice barely audible.

Clyde's eyes shadowed, reluctant, and he nodded, drawing back more and more slowly. I reached for my phone, which was buzzing insistently on the nightstand. My fingers shook a little as I picked it up and saw the number on the screen.

"It's the store," I said, still trying to get my breathing to even out. "I ordered something.

Clyde watched me intently, his gaze never leaving my face as I answered the call. His presence was a constant, burning reminder of what we had just shared and what was left unfinished.

"Hello?" I managed, my voice still thick with emotion.

"Miss Violet, your order is ready for pickup," the voice on the other end chirped.

"Thanks, I will come  tomorrow" was my quick response, anxious to go back to Clyde who's in front of me.

As soon as I hung up, I turned back to Clyde, who was now sitting on the edge of the bed, his eyes smoldering with unspoken desire. He leaned in again, capturing my lips in a kiss so intense it felt like he was pouring every ounce of restraint into it.

His hands cradled my face as he deepened the kiss, which was a mix of hunger and tenderness that left me breathless. When he finally pulled back, his forehead rested against mine, his breathing was ragged as my own.

"I should go," he whispered, though it seemed like the last thing he wanted.

"Stay," I pleaded softly, not ready to let the moment slip away.

Clyde shook his head lightly, and his lips pressed once more to mine in one of those kisses that spoke more of longing and promises yet unfulfilled than it did of consummation. He seemed to drink in the very sight before him, memorizing every detail of the scene, as he turned to leave.

"Goodnight, Violet," he rasped out low-a voice raw from regret and desire.

He was up and striding to the door before I could get a word out, leaving me to the lingering warmth of his touch and the memory of that hot, searing kiss.

I stood in the middle of my room, my heart still racing from Clyde's touch. The intensity of our shared moment lingered in the air, making it difficult to focus on anything else. Slowly, I moved to the dresser, pulling out a simple nightgown. As I slipped it over my head, the fabric felt cool against my flushed skin, a stark contrast to the heat that had enveloped me moments ago.

I doused the light and crawled under the covers, drawing them right up to my chin. My mind replayed every second of what had just happened: the way Clyde's hands traced over every curve, the fire in his gaze that made me feel like I was the only person in the world. Sleep was impossible with such thoughts racing through my mind.

Clyde paced back and forth in his room, running a frustrated hand through his hair. The warmth of Violet's body still seemed to cling to him, the softness of her lips, the electric connection that had sparked between them-all overwhelming, all impossible to dismiss as if nothing significant had changed.

He sat on the bed, elbows against his knees as he collected his thoughts. An arrangement meant merely to carry out a deathbed request by his father, it had quickly worked its way out of proportions-he couldn't deny this newfound depth in the scale of attraction for the now clearly beautiful and gorgeous Violet.

Clyde reached for his phone, placing his thumb on her contact. After a few moments, his thumbs began flying across the keypad, his heart beating with anticipation in his chest.

Clyde: Are you still up?

He pressed send, leaning back against his headboard while he waited for her response-a swirling mix of both desire and confusion.

I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, with my mind engrossed completely by Clyde-the memory of his touch, a glimpse of that intensity in his gaze sending shivers down my spine. My heart fluttering every time my mind wandered back to him was something I couldn't deny. It had happened all so fast with them, but why did it have to feel both right and complicated?

I rolled onto my side, clamping a pillow tightly against me as my mind whirled further. Just then, my phone vibrated on the nightstand. I reached over and picked it up, my heart starting to race as Clyde's name flashed across the screen.

Clyde: You still up?

I couldn't help but smile as I read his message. I heard the low, soft tone of his voice in my head, asking me that. I typed a quick reply.

Violet: Yes, I am awake. Can't sleep, actually.

I sent it and waited, my fingers lightly drumming against the side of the phone. A few seconds later, the screen lit up once again with his response.

Clyde: Me neither. Too many thoughts.

Violet: Same here.

Clyde: I would love to be there with you, touching your sexy breast and sucking you hard.

My heart did some weird jumping jive at the words. Talking would mean peeling back the layers of what we were feeling, confronting the undeniable connection between us. I took a deep breath, fingers hovering over the keyboard, before typing my reply.

Violet: And I will sucking your cock more harder, I really need you here. Imagine having hot sex with you tonight.

In a few seconds, the typing indicator popped up, showing he was just as anxious to continue. The more we chatted, the more excited and a little bit horny I got.

The bar stank of stale beer and cheap cologne, a mix as nauseating as the nerves twisting my stomach. I sat at the corner booth, my knees bouncing under the table. My boyfriend Tony had called me earlier that night and been pretty cryptic about why he wanted to meet here tonight, but something in his tone told me it wasn't good. The dark light of the bar shaded across his smug grin as he slipped into the seat opposite me, far too pleased with himself. "Violet," Tony began without embellishments of any sort. His voice was cold, detached. "We need to talk." A wave of dread washed over me. "Talk about what?Tony leaned back, adjusting the cuff of his designer shirt—a shirt I'd bought him as a birthday gift. "I got a new job," he said, his tone dripping with self-satisfaction. "That's great," I said cautiously. "What's the job?""It's at an upscale firm," he said, articulating "upscale" in a way that suggested I wouldn't know what that means. "I'm moving up in the world, Violet, and."

The next morning arrived before I had even blinked. I practically hadn't slept, my head racing in circles, trying to wrack my head around what I'd just agreed to. That kind of money could change everything-my debts, my career, my future. When Clyde came to my small apartment to collect me, his demeanor was as cool and calm as it had been the previous night. In a tailored suit with a glossy finish, he seemed even more out of place in my slum neighborhood. "You ready?" he asked when I opened the door. I nodded, grasping my small bag. "As ready as I'll ever be.The drive to the hospital was in silence, interrupted only by the soft hum of the car's engine. Clyde didn't say anything much and I did not press.
