Chapter 7

Meanwhile, it was now a couple of weeks after what transpired at the office between Alexandra Davidson and her boss Kirklin Jefferson; that earned him a hot slap. Work-flow had resumed normally between them in the office and there was no more awkwardness so Alexandra continued to work in her usual highly professional way.

She had returned the brooch that he gave her to use to clip the top of her dress but he insisted she should keep it. She was so surprised at how he could give her such an impromptu expensive gift without considering the cost.

She went ahead to secretly return the brooch to his drawer but he saw it the next day when he opened the drawer to get something. He called her into his office and expressed his unhappiness at her refusal of his gift.

She apologized and told him she had returned it because she didn’t want to mess up his plan. She felt he must have intended to gift it to someone but had to empathize with her by offering her the brooch when her dressing disaster happened.

Kirklin didn’t dwell much on explaining who the brooch was intended for but he just stood up, opened her hand, and put the brooch in it saying he was giving it to her from his heart.

Alexandra was very happy as she had always been in dire need of money. She felt the red diamond brooch was too expensive for her to use since she had an enormous financial commitment to meet so she sold it and made a fortune which she sent the full amount to support her foster parents with their huge orphanage expenses.

Unknown to her foster parents, she had always sent all her income to them so they could take care of the bills and the children at the orphanage. They had been self-sponsoring the orphanage for a long time and getting funds was tough ever since their financial sponsors withdrew their aid some years back due to a false report by another orphanage that was intimidated by their level of achievements so Alexandra took it upon herself to support them.

She also gave a monthly stipend to her Secretary’s faithful best friend. Her Secretary; Mrs. Shookus was always gushing about how extremely selfless her best friend was so Alexandra fell in love with her even without meeting her. She decided to always send some money to support the woman with her medications and upkeep since Mrs. Shookus couldn’t handle it alone.

Alexandra didn’t live a life of luxury despite that she earned a fat salary and no one knew except her best friend Ariella Dawson. She always dressed well so it was difficult for anyone to ever make a guess that she wasn’t financially buoyant. She secretly lived in a one-bedroom apartment in a cheap area and didn’t have enough money to buy a car so she always commuted by train and bus.

Her plan was to get the orphanage to stand strong financially and also secure the future of the children as well as her foster parents which she was now successfully able to do after selling the brooch and giving the proceeds to her foster parents.

She then decided to start a good life and start spending her salary by taking good care of herself and Mrs. Shookus’ best friend now that she has given a lot of money to her foster parents that will last a minimum of 15 years.

A couple of weeks passed and Alexandra’s best friend Ariella Dawson who had now settled in well in America decided to call her bestie again as she hadn’t been able to get through to her since the last time they spoke. Alexandra had been so busy to the extent of not being able to pick up or return her calls and Ariella had been itching to give her the good news of her commencement of a relationship with Kevin; the guy she met on her flight and to also tell her how fast things were moving for them.

{Ring … Ring}

Alexandra had just come out from her boss’s office when she heard her phone ring. It was a call from Ariella and she knew she had to pick up the call as it was long overdue for her to return her bestie’s phone calls.

“Xxsilly girl, you must be upset with me right?” Alexandra said as she picked up the call.

“My goodness… your Excellency ma’am…so you can finally pick your call!” Ariella exclaimed

Alexandra apologized and explained to her how busy she had been and how much workload she had cleared in the past weeks. “I’m so glad I submitted the final documents and was just coming out of my boss’s office when your call came through,” she said.

Ariella broke the news to her and Alexandra; who is as bubbly as Ariella screamed when her bestie broke the amazing news to her.

She exclaimed amid so much excitement and said “Sweetieee, you are so lucky…I’m happy for you…Tell me…how does he look…have you guys fixed an engagement date yet or are you going straight to the altar or… ohhhh! I’m just so super-excited girl”

Ariella replied with excitement as well and said “Thanks Darl….he’s so cute…exactly what we’ve discussed that we wanted in a guy…He’s awesomely good-looking, very caring and gentle… and of course suuuper-sexy…”

Alexandra cuts in “Ohhh girl….congrats…so tell me, have you both cuddled yet…have you finally had your first kiss…or have you done that thing?”

“Well… we’ve been french-kissing and smooching for a while now and he tastes so good…My goodness! ... We almost did the main thing a while ago but we had to stop…I was dripping wet and his body was super strong” Ariella said as she chuckled.

“Bad girl” Alexandra screamed again in excitement as she had completely forgotten the warning her boss gave her a couple of weeks ago not to use office hours to pick up her private calls.

She suddenly realized she had just broken the rule when she heard her boss’s mobile phone ring in his office. She became very scared and had to use her hand to cover up her mouth and whispered “Ari, I’m done for…I’m almost certain my boss will sack me today”

“Oh myy! What happened” Ariella asked out of fear.

“He caught me on a call with you a couple of weeks back and seriously warned me not to make phone calls while at work. I hope he didn’t hear my screams this time around” replied Alexandra.

“So sorry babes, I won’t be calling you again so I don’t put you into trouble with your new boss …you’ll be doing the calling henceforth but make sure you don’t stay too long before calling me ….get back to work girl. Love you…mmwah…mmwah…bye” said Ariella hurriedly.

“Bye love”. Alexandra said as she ended the call and hoped not to get called into her boss’s office for a query but she had hoped for too much because the intercom on her desk rang almost immediately after.

Her heart almost flew out of her mouth because she knew it was her boss calling and that could be the end of her. Although he had been easygoing with her, she knew he was a no-nonsense boss who never tolerated bad work ethics.

{Ring...Ring} The intercom rang.

Alexandra picked up the phone receiver and said as she trembled “Hello Sir” 

“Please come,” said her boss; Kirklin Jefferson.

She got up immediately and thought of what to say when he queries her about the personal phone call that she had just received during work hours.
