Chapter 5

After her boss left the office, Alexandra decided to put a quick call through to her bestie; Ariella to finish up their gossip from the previous day. The two forever friends exchanged pleasantries and Ariella gossiped about the handsome bloke she had told her she met on her flight and how fast they had become friends. Alexandra screamed excitedly and said “Oh girl, tell me right now…Do you think he’s the long-awaited guy? That’s pretty quick my badass friend” 

Ariella was embarrassed and laughed as it appears everything on top of the head of her bestie was all about their dream of a serious relationship. Alexandra’s excitement wasn’t surprising to her as she would have done the same if it were to be the other way round. 

“You’re more of a badass than me, you know right” Ariella replied. 

“Well, we’re both pretty hot girls... so hurry and fill me in on what you both have been up to these 2 days that you met,” Alexandra asked inquisitively. 

“Alexaaa, not what you’re thinking girl. Anyways, I’m not yet sure of... {Ahem}, (Ariella clears her throat) … I’m not sure of his intention…let’s see how it goes though… I’ll call you much later when you’d be free to have a long convo…. love you Pumpkin” 

“Love you too my Xxsilly Sweeeeti-pie… Anyways, I hope that bloke is a sensible guy who means business, not like those irritatingly disgusting ones that are only after the honey in the honeycomb” Alexandra replied. 

“Trust me babes…I won’t waste time to kick his ass if he’s a stupid guy” Ariella laughed as she replied. 

“Trust you babes… Love you Xxsilly Missy… do take care of you,” said Alexandra and the call ended.

Ariella Dawson who was the same age as her bestie had just been transferred from her London office to head the Los Angeles branch of her company. Alexandra had advised her to first go to Paris and then Hong Kong for a short vacation before continuing her journey to the US to resume work. After spending a few days in Paris and it was time to depart for Hong Kong, Ariella went to the airport early to check-in. It was after she had checked in and was going to the boarding gate for her flight that some coincidences happened between her and a gorgeous man who later introduced himself as Kevin whom she gossiped with Alexandra about.

22-year-old Ariella Dawson and Alexandra Davidson have been best friends since their University days. Alexandra who was presumed to be the only child of her parents was orphaned at a young age and was taken into an orphanage located on the outskirt of London belonging to a loving couple who catered for kids without parents. 

The couple had seen her in the middle of the night walking alone by the bush on a London highway that leads to France. They were shocked to see that she was drenched in blood so they stopped their car immediately to pick her up. She was little and had a French accent and there was a note in her pocket that stated “Name: Alexandra Davidson”. The couple called out “Alexandra” to know if that was her name and she answered ‘Oui’ which means yes in French.

 They aborted their journey outside London and quickly rushed her to a nearby hospital to get medical treatment for her wounds and they alerted the police. The police did their investigations but could not ascertain what led to the girl‘s predicament and there was no clue as to who and where her parents were so they were presumed dead and the orphanage took her in.

The orphanage depended on the financial aid they received from various organizations and they effectively utilized the money by giving all the children excellent care such that the orphanage was the most preferred option for people that wanted to adopt children because they knew their kids were well-groomed. 

All the little children that were Alexandra’s age had been adopted out to beautiful families but the owners of the orphanage decided to keep her because her exceptional pleasantness and sweet character endeared her to them and they found it difficult to let her go. 

              

Things however began to dwindle when another orphanage; out of jealousy, falsely maligned them in order to tarnish their image. This made all their financial sponsors withdraw their support and they were left with nothing to depend on. 

Alexandra had just gained admission into a university in London when the sponsors stopped funding the orphanage so the owners had no option but to sell their personal car and one of the orphanage buses to pay for her school fees. They struggled to pay her fees till she clocked 18 after which they took a tough decision to release her to start her own life. It was an emotional moment for all of them and Alexandra promised not to let them down. She assured them that she would complete her degree and make enough money to help the orphanage get back on its feet.

 After Alexandra left home, the owners sold the orphanage building and moved the other children to a smaller residence and they funded the orphanage from the money received from the sale of the building.

Alexandra struggled so hard to make ends meet and had to do odd jobs in order to pay her school fees, support herself as well as the orphanage. When Ariella Dawson got to know of her best friend's struggles, she asked her parents to support her by paying her school fees and house rent which they did lovingly because they were well-to-do and would do anything for Ariella; their only child.

 Their support helped Alexandra a great deal so she was able to give more money to the orphanage from the meager amount she earned from her part-time jobs.

Alexandra and Ariella graduated with a First-Class and it was easy for both of them to secure high-paying jobs. They both got good jobs with different companies in London and after a year and a half; Ariella was transferred to head the Los Angeles branch of her company while Alexandra too got a promotion but still remained in London.
