Her face darkened, the amusement gone from her eyes. "You should know by now, I don't do last chances." She raised her gun, her finger hovering over the trigger.

Arnulfo didn't blink. "Me neither."

A shot was fired, but neither of them was the source. The sound was followed by both sides shouting, and Carla and Arnulfo automatically dived for cover as the firefight picked up again. The fragile peace they had shared for those brief moments was smashed to pieces.

Huddled behind a container, Carla growled into her earpiece. "Diego! What is going on?

Diego’s voice crackled through the chaos. “Boss, they’ve got reinforcements—we’re pinned down!”

Carla cursed under her breath, her mind racing. She peered around the edge of her cover, catching a glimpse of Arnulfo issuing orders to his men with the same calm authority that infuriated her.

“I don’t care what it takes,” she growled. “Get me out of here alive. We’ll regroup and hit them harder next time.”

Diego hesitated. “Understood, boss.”

Victoria paced in a dimly lit study of the sprawling mansion with an anger level that was practically palpable. Her mind kept racing with her failures, her failures to a point where Carla was now behind her, as well as one by one falling alliances. Her carefully crafted plan had not only backfired but threatened everything she held close.A sharp knock at the door broke her reverie. She didn't have a chance to open it when it burst open and in strode her father, Don Victor Giupere, his face a thunderstorm, sharp features twisted with rage. The patriarch stood tall and imposing, and tonight, his anger was a storm ready to unleash."Victoria!" he bellowed, slamming the door shut behind him. "Do you know what you just did?You ruin everything!"Victoria straightened, her confidence faltering under his blazing gaze. “Father, I—”Before she could finish, Victor’s hand shot out, striking her cheek with a sharp slap that echoed through the room. Victoria stumbled slightly, her hand flying to

Victoria smirked, her eyes narrowing. “Do you really think I care what my father says, Mateo?”He hesitated, looking over his shoulder at the closed door. "With respect, ma'am, Don Victor is not a man to cross. If he finds out—""Let me worry about my father," Victoria cut in, her voice sharp. She took a step closer, her heels clicking on the polished floor. "You work for me, Mateo, not him. Or have you forgotten?"I haven't," he said evenly, meeting her gaze. "But I also haven't forgotten that your father signs the checks."Victoria's smile hardened. "And if you're smart, you'll remember who's truly in control here. Now, are you with me or not?"Mateo's jaw tightened, and for a moment, Victoria thought he might push back. But then he nodded, his voice low. "I'm with you.""Good." Victoria turned back to her desk, where a map of the city lay spread out. She traced a manicured finger along the paper, stopping at a key intersection near the docks. "I need you to deliver a message. Quiet

The morning after, Don Victor walked into the grand conference room of his estate. His presence immediately commanded respect as he strode into the long mahogany table surrounded by powerful figures from the city's underworld. They had been murmuring and went silent as Victor entered the room. Of them was Arnulfo with a calm but watchful countenance-a stark contrast to the tense energy filling the room.Victor sat down at the head of the table, his sharp gaze scanning the room. "Gentlemen," he started, his voice steady but laced with authority, "the city is in chaos. Alliances are crumbling, trust is a rare commodity, and too many of us are bleeding resources. It's time to set things right."Arnulfo leaned back a little, his arms crossed. "Set things right?" he echoed. "This coming from the man whose daughter nearly turned the entire city into a war zone?"The room tensed, all eyes leaping between Victor and Arnulfo. Victor's jaw grew tight but refused to leap for the words offered. H

Victor turned slowly to face him, expressionless, though a flicker of something there—anger, perhaps regret—flashed in his eyes. The air in the room grew heavier, the weight of Arnulfo's accusation hanging between them."I'm aware," Victor said, voice steady but cold. "Think you I do not know what her actions have cost? The betrayals, the bloodshed? Every misstep she has taken has been shown to me in detail, Arnulfo. But do not stand here before me and sermonize as though your hands be clean."My hands are far from clean, Victor, but I don't hide from my mistakes," Arnulfo growled. "Your daughter, on the other hand, has been hiding behind your name and your power for too long. And now, the entire city is paying the price for her vendetta against me."Victor’s eyes darkened, his voice dropping to a dangerous tone. "Be very careful, Arnulfo. You’re speaking about my blood."Arnulfo's eyes were cold, unyielding. "Your blood or not, she is a liability, and you know it. You are the one who

For Emilio, in Victor's clenched fists and stiffened posture, he saw a leader wrestling with betrayal but a father torn between duty and love. The silence was heavy and heavy until it dragged. It felt like the walls themselves were holding their breath and wanted not to disturb this fragile moment. Finally, the boy in the corner had just listened silently till Arnulfo rose from his corner and began: "Victoria. Do you know that everything has started to disintegrate-all this confusion within this city-with Victoria? All this mess no longer is simply your family issue. She dragged all of us into this one."Victor turned, the piercing look pinning Arnulfo. "Do you not know that? He sounded tired. "Can you not envision that I spend each day plagued by the fear that my very daughter has ended this empire as surely as my brother did a lifetime ago?Arnulfo gritted his jaw. But he took a step forward. "Knowing it and doing it are two different things, Victor. She's no longer just your concer

"No, no, no," Arnulfo said, holding her hands. He cuddled her close and kissed her cheek. "Leave them in, my babe," he whispered in her ear.He pulled the dress up to reveal her cute belly button, with a small strawberry piercing, which he savoured with kisses, as he stroked her thighs.Arnulfo began kissing her forehead. "You're mine, Valentine. I'm going to treat you like my own!" He sensually ran his lips downto her nose, and then kissed her soft neck, feeling the pulse in her veins.Valentine groaned as he stroked her bare back by her shoulders. She started trembling as he caressed his way to her upper chest, with strong but nerdy hands- which he used for training and writing so fiercely that there were some minute scars still there. She was then kissed over her strapless purple and red floral playsuit, over the cloth over her right nipple. He blew on it; she began to cry with pleasure.Arnulfo immediately stopped, his heart skipping a beat. He had not intended to make her cry!"

As the soft gold rays spread across the bedroom, the world outside became alive once more. The pounding heart of the city would soon return Arnulfo to its craziness, but for now he let himself just bask at this temporary peace. In Valentines' embracing arms, solace was at hand, remembering that even under the darkness are lights.Valentine stroked her fingers along the swell of his jaw, the touch as soothing as a balm. "You carry so much, Arnulfo," she said gently. "You do not have to do that alone."He met her gaze, his eyes filled with a sense of gratitude and resolve. "I know. You have been my strength, Valentine. Every step I take, every battle I fight, it is all for us. The life we are building together. She smiled, her expression tender. “And I’ll always be by your side, no matter what. But promise me something.”“What is it?” he asked, his tone serious.“Promise me that when this is all over—when the dust settles—you’ll allow yourself to breathe. To live. Not for the city, not

Victoria stood up, her gait slow and deliberate. She trailed her fingers over the intricate carvings on the mahogany desk in the corner of the room. Her father had selected this prison for her with careful consideration—everything she could possibly need was here, except freedom. But what Don Victor didn't understand was that Victoria wasn't a woman who waited for opportunity to come knocking on her door. She created them. Her eyes locked onto the mirror that hung on the wall, its gilded frame glinting in the dim light. She contemplated her own reflection for a moment, a look of hardness on her face like stone. This was no fragile, defeated girl. This was Victoria Giupere—a woman who had built her reputation on cunning, manipulation, and power. And no one, not even her father, could strip her of that. She turned her head to the door, her mind calculating. The guards outside were loyal, but loyalty could be bought—or broken. All she needed was to sow the right seeds of doubt, the right

Arnulfo pulled at his collar. "Remind me again why I'm marrying your daughter?" Valentine raised an eyebrow. "Because you love me?"Arnulfo groaned and threw up his hands dramatically. "Damn. You got me there." Don Victor chuckled. "You'll live, Vegas." Valentine stood in front of the mirror staring at the wedding gown. It was breathtaking-ivory lace, delicate beadwork, a flowing skirt that made her feel like she was floating. But what caught her breath was how Don Victor sat behind her as a reflection. His eyes were misty, his face unreadable. " Papa?" she whispered He clears his throat: "You just look like your mother." A boulder formed in the throat of Valentine. "She'd be proud," he managed to breathe the words out so that his emotions were trembling about. Watering eyes with Valentine, "Really think so?" He bent down and cradled her face. "I know so." And in the blink of an eye, she dissolved in his arms. "I love you, Papa," she whispered. Don Victor's eyes closed, and he tighten

The morning sun trickled through the grand estate's windows, dimming to a golden view of the room in which Valentine sat, carrying her newborn baby, Victoria Elise. She sighed, taking a sip from her tea when suddenly, the doors burst open. Don Victor strode into the room, full of confidence as if he had just decided to move mountains. His voice boomed across the room."Well, Valentine, mi hija, it's off again. This time, we're getting married."Valentine nearly gagged on her tea. "What?" she blinked at him, wondering if her father had finally lost it.Don Victor gave her a look of annoyance, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "You and Arnulfo. Another wedding. A proper one. A wedding that will be remembered for generations!"Valentine opened her mouth, then closed it. “But we’re already married!”Her father waved a dismissive hand. "That wasn't a wedding. That was a disaster! Do you call being shot at, running for your life, and your sister trying to kill you a wedding

Arnulfo looked at the scene. His heart was heavy but not hollow. This was the man he had been fighting for—the man who once tried to kill him. Yet today, Don Victor was merely a father holding onto his final opportunity for redemption. Arnulfo stretched out, his gaze unyielding. To this, Don Victor displayed an expression that was unreadable. Neither spoke for some time. Then, among all the men standing there, the motion of Arnulfo's hands reached out towards him. It was a challenge, a gesture of peace offering, a guarantee. Don Victor held Valentine next to him, frozen. Then, in his slow drag, he took an indrawn breath and clasped Arnulfo's hand in return. Their grips were tight—not against foes—but two men who had seen each other enough to know for far too long. Two men whose pasts would contradict themselves yet could feel the same love, a love more ample for Valentine. “Take care of her,” muttered Don Victor so low that only a few words' meanings might be gathered. The smooth si

Then Don Victor wanted to patch things up with Valentine, so he approached her again. "Valentine, you are my only living daughter. I hope you can forgive your father for not knowing you. I tried to search for your mom, and lately, I found the truth. Please, Valentine, my dear, forgive your dad." Tears filled Valentine's eyes. "But how can you forgive me? For killing Victoria, my only sister?Don Victor shivered. "Because I failed you first."Her breath hitched."You grew up alone," he went on, his voice thick with remorse. "You suffered alone. If I'd been there-if I'd known-you would never have had to fight for your life in the first place."He touched her hands, his fingers digging into hers. "So if you can do in your heart forgive me then I—" His voice broke. "Then I'll spend the rest of my days proving to you that I'm worthy to be your father."Valentine watched him as if studying every feature on his face for one sign of lies. Every mark of the brutal Don Victor that she knew seem

A very trusted man of Don Victor arrived at the hospital when the sun was barely rising. His face was serious, though his body was stiff with unspoken words. Valentine sat on a chair by the window; Arnulfo rested beside her. His wounds healed considerably, though he still needed to recover more time. She heard the footsteps turn. She saw the man. Her heart fell. There was something about him, and she felt her chest constrict."Señora Vegas," he said, respectful but low. "I come on behalf of Don Victor."Valentine stiffened, her fingers going instinctively to grab at the material of her dress. "What is it?" she asked sharply. The man took a deep breath before his eyes met hers. "It's about Victoria."Her heart stopped."Today is her final interment," he said. "Don Victor wanted you to know. He hopes you will come… to send your sister off."A lance shot through Valentine's chest. She gasped and felt her fingers begin to quiver. Her sister.Victoria was her sister. And she had murdered h

There on the veranda of his estate, Arnulfo sat sipping the sweet scent of a breeze carrying wet earth. He had healed the wound, and though the marks both on body and heart remain, he blew out slowly as he rested one hand over where the bullet tried to take him from this life. Nearly from Valentine and the child she had inside her womb. His tranquility was only temporary. The stillness shattered with the heavy sound of his steps. He need not turn around to know who he was but the heavy-laden air that felt fraught with tension and something else, deep within—it was something left unsaid.Don Victor. The older man stood behind him, a storm rolling in behind him. Whatever words were being said, his silence was saying louder than they ever could.Arnulfo straightened himself but did not turn. "I was expecting you.“Is that so?” Don Victor’s voice was gravelly, lined with years of authority. Years of power. But beneath it was something else—grief, perhaps. Or anger. “Then you know why I’m

Dark eyes met his; something she had never seen in him before; regret, pain, a sadness so deep that there weren't enough words to account for it. They were both silent for what felt like an eternity. And then, after the great long silence,he spoke."Valentina," he said, his voice rough, unsteady. She flinched. She hated it when he said that. That wasn't his name for her. Not today. Not ever before. Her fists were curled tight at her sides. "Don't say that."He exhaled, nodding slightly. "I… I understand." His voice cracked, but he went on speaking. "I don't expect forgiveness. I don't even expect you to look at me without hatred. But I need you to know—I never knew. If I had—She laughed, the laugh sharp, bitter. "If you'd known? What, Don Victor? Would it have been any different? Would you have come to find me? Raised me?" Her voice cracked as she took a step closer, the burning eyes intense. "Or just another soldier in your empire? His face contorted into a grimace as if she slap

The door shut with a soft click behind Don Victor, and silence swallowed the hospital room. The revelation was like a boulder, suffocating Valentine's chest. She could hardly believe it.Victoria. her sister.Don Victor. her father. It felt like a bad joke on truth.Arnulfo grasped her hands in a tight grip but a gentle one as he said worriedly, "Valentine, speak to me.".She shuddered, drawing an involuntary breath into her lungs. Her fingers were clutching him hard. "I don't know what to say my love," she whispered. "I don't know how to feel,Arnulfo."Arnulfo touched her cheek and raised her chin. "Then don't make yourself understand everything right now," he said, soft. "Just breathe."Breathe.How was she supposed to breathe when her entire world had just been turned inside out?She forced her hands free from his hold, wrapped them around her body to hug herself, and started pacing the room. "All this time," she said shaking her head in disbelief. "I thought I was alone. I thought

The door opened slowly, and Don Victor entered.Valentine's head snapped up. Her eyes were red and puffy. "What do you want?" she croaked.Don Victor's eyes softened, but his face remained unreadable. "To talk.""There is nothing to talk about."Don Victor took another step inside. "There's everything to talk about."Valentine shook her head, turning away. "You can't come out of the woodwork now and pretend you care about me."Don Victor took a breath. "I always cared."She laughed, and the sound was bitter. "Liar.""I didn't know about you," Don Victor said. "If I had—""If you had known," Valentine cut him off, her voice shaking with anger, "what? You would have raised me in your world?
