CHAPTER 1
TAYLOR I sneezed first when my consciousness returned, and then I groaned in pain as I felt a sharp ache in the back of my head. Immediately, the dryness in my throat completely woke me up, and all I could think about was getting myself a glass of water, but I couldn't move when I tried to. I'd never felt so painfully heavy in my life. My body felt like lead, and no matter how many times I tried to get up from my knees, I couldn't. It was like I'd been drugged to stay put, and I panicked internally. Realizing my hands were bound together with chains, I tried to cry out for help, but there was a piece of clothing in my mouth. Then I attempted to open my eyes, but they were blindfolded, and my heart sank upon the discovery that I'd been held hostage. My breaths suddenly became shallow. Fear seeped into my veins and filled my head with horrific images as each second passed, and tears stung my eyes the longer I struggled with the clattering chains that held my hands in bondage. “Hello? Is anyone there? Help me. Please!” I tried to scream out for help, but my words were muffled, and I sobbed even harder as I realized I won't be able to find help. The last thing I remembered was going to a party with my boyfriend, Malcolm. Then I told him I was thirsty and he got me a drink. I cluelessly drank it all… only to pass out cold. Now, here I was, tied down against my will in a place I didn't know. Suddenly, I began to hear loud footsteps coming closer to me. Then the clothes used to blindfold and gag me were yanked off my face, and I gasped when I saw Malcolm looking down at me with very empty eyes. A part of me still doubted he was the one who got me into this state. So I asked just to be sure. Just to relieve my heart in hopes that he wouldn't do such to me. “Malcolm. What's going on? If this is part of the party tricks, I don't like it. So get these chains off me immediately. I want to go home” I told him while I wept profusely, and slowly, I saw his mouth curve into a sneer. “This isn't a party trick, Taylor. It's reality. Though I didn't have much of a choice when they made me do this to you” he replied, and I frowned in confusion. What was he talking about? “What are you talking about? I want to know why I'm all tied up here. Why?” I yelled when I got impatient, and he smiled so coldly that it sent cold waves through my skin. Then he squatted before me and gently ran his finger through my hair while looking me right in the eyes, and I'd never seen his eyes look so blank and emotionless. He wasn't the Malcolm I knew. “I've been broke these days, and I needed my usual drugs to calm my nerves. So I was asked for a substitute in exchange for three months' worth of drugs, and there you were. The very loyal girlfriend who loves me to the moon. You were the perfect substitute, Taylor, so I gave you away, and now, I have my drugs. Isn't that perfect?” He answered so shamelessly, without an ounce of remorse on his face and blind rage, took over me as I struggled to free myself and wring his neck in return for what he'd done to me. “What have you done to me? What have you done, Malcolm?” I sobbed while I still struggled even though the chains bit into my skin, and he just shrugged. “I only did what was necessary to get what I wanted. You're replaceable, Taylor. I can get a new girl whenever I want” he retorted, and that broke me. “You addict bastard! You gave me away for drugs? You gave me away for your selfish wants? How dare you! How could you? What did I do to deserve this?” I screamed at the top of my lungs before I began to sob again, and he stood up before taking a step away from me. “I hope this is the last time we see each other, Taylor. Goodbye… And good luck, I guess” he said, and a man handed him a luggage, which was obviously filled with drugs judging from the excitement on his face. I couldn't believe he gave me away for that. Then he started to walk away, and I'd never been so terrified in my life. I screamed and cried for him to come back and save me. I hoped he was going to turn around and tell me it was a prank, but he didn't look back. He just walked out the door and left me behind, and I couldn't stop weeping hard as the sting of his betrayal tore my heart to shreds. At that moment, a microphone was suddenly turned on while I was still sobbing nonstop, and I gasped immediately. I realized I wasn't alone. “Is anyone there? Can you hear me? Please say something, I beg you” I called out in desperation, but there was no response. All I heard next was the click clack of heels against the hard cemented floor coming closer to me. Then the scent of lavender perfume filled my nose, and a woman appeared. She just stared at me in silence before she bent, and using her soft hand, she caught my chin and turned my face to the left and then to the right like I was being examined. Then she pressed a gun to my temple, and the cold metal made my body go cold with fear. “Make a sound again, and I'm going to send a bullet through your forehead” she spoke to me in a hostile tone, and a shiver ran down my spine as she threatened to kill me. With that, she pulled away from me and snapped her fingers. Then a man walked up to me, and before I could say anything, he blindfolded and gagged me again. Then I heard the loud sound of curtains flapping like they were being pulled apart and judging from how close it sounded, I could guess I was on a stage with the woman who just threatened me. Upon having that thought, she began to talk into the microphone. “Good evening, gentlemen. Welcome to once again, another exciting night at Madam Hortons home for lovely dolls. Tonight, I have quite the doll for you hungry men, and I bet that anyone who takes this beautiful doll home would have a great time… so shall we begin bidding our prices from 50 thousand?” My body turned rigid when I heard her intro speech followed by the loud cheer of the voices of many many men, and I felt my blood freeze as I understood what was happening. This was a trafficking scheme, and thanks to Malcolm, I'd sadly fallen a victim. “Sixty thousand” the first man yelled, and the woman chuckled into the microphone. “Sixty thousand from Mr Pataski… anyone who wants to bid a higher price?” She asked while I knelt beside her like I was some commodity, and I wondered how in good conscience she could easily sell off her fellow woman. “Seventy thousand, Madam Horton” another man who sounded older called, and immediately, another yelled a hundred thousand. It became a noisy competition as they bidded one after the other, and soon, someone was calling out three hundred thousand to buy me. Silence followed when the price of five hundred thousand was bidded to buy me, and I heard Madam Horton chuckle again, this time, her voice livelier as she spoke into the microphone. “I guess we have a winner for the auction tonight. Five hundred thousand from Mr Lewiston for the d…” “Two million” a very deep, cold, and unexplainably spine chilling voice unexpectedly called out from the crowd, and loud murmurs exploded in the crowd when that amount was bidded over my head. “Does anyone want to take over from the two million? Gentlemen?” Madam Horton asked, her voice also filled with shock, and when I heard the men sighing in defeat, I knew it was game over. I'd been sold off. “That's it for the auction. Two million from Mr Rover for the doll” she announced to end the night, and with that, I heard the click clack of her heels again before it faded away. Then, a hand grabbed my neck from behind without warning, and I felt a sting when a needle pricked my skin. Hissing in pain, I soon began to feel lightheaded, and before I could decipher what was happening, I'd blacked out.CHAPTER 2 TAYLOR I gasped in shock when a bucket of water was poured on my bare skin and I opened my eyes to see I was surrounded by four middle aged women I'd never met in my life. I was naked and they were all washing me up and I gasped again as I registered what was going on. I was naked! With four unrecognizable women! “Calm down, doll. We're the nicest among everyone working for madam Horton so you're in safe hands with us, alright? We're just going to clean you up and dress you up to look good for Mr Rover” the first woman in a flower patterned apron said and I frowned. “Is this is a fucking joke or do you actually mean it when you say you're the nicest? You lots kidnapped me and sold me off like it's normal and you're telling me you're the nicest? That has to be the biggest fucking joke of the year. I'm a hostage!” I screamed while my body vibrated with maximum rage. Then I heard the cocking of a gun immediately and I froze with my breath held in fear when it was pressed
CHAPTER 3TAYLOR He was looking at me. His eyes were blank and icily condescending as he stared at me from where he stood but I could still strangely feel a weird warmth creeping from my stomach up to my chest. He was handsome. So good looking that I momentarily forgot that all in one night, I'd been betrayed by my boyfriend and was sold to him, a mafia lord who was said to be ruthless. I had no idea what mafia lords did exactly since I'd never come across one before but judging from the gun and silencer he held, it was obvious that he was indeed dangerous. His gaze finally shifted from mine as he turned to look at the guards and he waved his hand up for them to raise their heads which they did.My eyes rounded when he began to fix the silencer on the gun and I watched the guards give each other questioning looks.“Who hurt her?” His voice, still deep, cold and spine chilling like from the auction, asked the guards while he gestured toward me and I was confused at first. But then I
CHAPTER 4TAYLOR “Your name is Taylor Anya Fitzroy and you're an orphan. You lost your parents in an accident at fifteen and your grandpa died after you graduated from high school. You're twenty two years old, you lived in an apartment which was close to where you formerly worked as a barista at a Cafe and your boyfriend… Well, now your ex-boyfriend is Malcolm Doe.” Mr Rover listed every single information about myself while he sat before me in the mansion's living room but all I could think about was the amount of blood I just witnessed out there when he shot those bodyguards in their knees and hands.“I'm sorry. I… I can't get the blood out of my head. I've n… never seen s… so much blood before. I'm really sorry” I stammered while apologizing profusely and he leaned toward me from where he sat to have a closer look at me.“As long as you're mine, you'll have to get used to that. Understood?” he told me and I nodded in fear because I couldn't bring myself to say another word.“Fern
CHAPTER 5 TAYLOR While I sank deep into my thoughts in bewilderment, Mr Rover was busy looking me over from head to toe and with a sigh of disapproval, he stood up from his chair and waved his forefinger at me to stand up too. I quickly did as he wanted and when he held my wrist without warning, I felt my body freeze because I never saw it coming. Mr Rover was holding me! His hand was on my wrist! And I was trying to get used to it. “Let's get you into something better before you meet my father” he said and with that, he pulled me along with him, not bothering to let me finish my breakfast. Fernandez led the way and opened the doors for us until we got inside the car; I got into the passenger seat while Mr Rover occupied the driver's seat and a deafening and awkward silence filled the car as he drove off until we arrived at a beauty shop. The place screamed of luxury and sophistication when we walked in and I looked around in awe while we waited for the manager. Then I heard the
CHAPTER 6TAYLOR Smoothening my hands over my wedding dress while I looked in the mirror, I couldn't bring myself to accept the fact that I was getting married. Against my will, I was marrying the man who bought me from an auction and I couldn't even run away because he promised to find me and hurt me if I did.Just weeks ago, I was living a very mundane life. All I did was go to work, make coffee for strangers, and then return home to eat a poorly made dinner before I headed to bed. Now, I was in a white dress and about to marry a man that I knew nothing about just because he said we were going to, and at that moment, I remembered Malcolm. He was never a good boyfriend to me either. I was just desperate for love because I missed my parents and grandpa. So, accepting him into my life seemed like the best at the moment. That was until I found out about his addiction. Then he promised he was going to stop, and I stupidly believed him because I thought someone like him could actually
CHAPTER 7TAYLORThe drive to the venue was a very quiet and stifling one for me because we were both seated in the same car. So I rolled the window down a bit to feel the air until the car came to a halt once we arrived at the church where we were to be wedded. Then Fernandez came forward to get the door for me and another one of Michael's guards did the same for him from the other side of the car.Once we were both out, I looked toward Michael to see he was watching me too. Then he held his hand out for me to take it and raising my dress, I walked toward him and placed my small hand in his much larger hand. With that, we took slow and precise steps toward the church and my heart started to beat so fast against my ribs that I thought I wouldn't hear anything around me from the loud crashing sound in my head but then Michael spoke to me and I looked at him.“After we take our vows…” he stopped and visibly swallowed, his Adam apple dancing up and down his throat. Then he looked down at
CHAPTER 8TAYLORWe walked out of the church hand in hand, but immediately we were a distance away from the church building, Michael abruptly let go of my hand and the gesture felt so cold and dismissive.Fernandez rushed up to him at that moment and whispered something in his ear and immediately he took a step back, Michael pulled him aside to talk to him so I was left to stand alone and it was awkward.I remained in the same spot while I watched him converse with his bodyguard and the longer I watched him, the more it felt like the kiss we shared was nothing but a dream. I didn't want to believe that I just felt his lips upon mine just seconds ago.So I made myself think… that it wasn't real. It was just an act because Michael Rover didn't find me to be attractive one bit. He had never even looked my way for longer than a few minutes and I couldn't count on one hand how many times I'd seen him in person since he bought me. So the kiss was nothing to him… and I had to think nothing o
CHAPTER 9TAYLORThe hitting didn't stop. Instead, I was forced to sit side by side with Michael and watch Fernandez hit Mr Thomas on and on until he was nothing but a weak and bloodied mess on the floor.I suddenly felt the urge to vomit while I helplessly watched. Then Fernandez finally stopped hitting him and turned to Michael while he straightened his jacket with a look of satisfaction on his face. But I was quick to push the urge to vomit back and when I looked at Michael, I realized he had been watching me closely.“I told you that you'd have to get used to this life now. So don't look so pale, Taylor. This is just the beginning” he said softly and I blinked while staring at him in disbelief.“You could have taken him to the police. Why do you have to take it this far?” I asked while my body shook with vigor because to say I was traumatized would be an understatement.Mr Thomas's cries of plea and the sound of his bones breaking as he got beaten kept ringing in my head and Mich
CHAPTER 76TAYLOR Deflated, I placed the schedule on Michael's desk before I left his office and walked back to my desk. Then I packed up my things to leave for the day and reaching the elevator, I saw Fernandez waiting.“Didn't you leave for a job?” I asked, surprised to see him.“I was told to take you home” he replied and I adjusted my bag on my shoulder. “Alright then. Let's go” I said and with that, we both got into the elevator and stood in silence as it went down to the parking lot.“What about your boss? Any idea where he rushed off to?” I asked and I felt his gaze on me while I stared ahead.“He left for an event. He was in a hurry because he's part of the hosts and he has to be there before it begins” he explained and I nodded as little of the hurt I was feeling started to go away once I knew why he ran out so fast like that.We arrived at the parking lot and Fernandez led me over to the car before he got the door to the backseat for me and I thanked him before getting in.
CHAPTER 75TAYLORMonday morning came fast and I woke up with a heavy heart.I didn't want to leave my bed. In fact, I wanted to lock my door and keep to myself for the day along with Mane but I knew I couldn't do that.Selene was leaving and we were driving her back to the airport. It was going to be just me in that large penthouse again because even with Michael around, it made no difference… I was still lonely. With a sigh, I slowly pushed myself off my bed. Then I left for the bathroom where I brushed my teeth, took a shower and dressed up in a pair of flare pants along with a shirt which I had tucked in.Then I held my hair up in a loose ponytail before I applied a little makeup and once I was done, I wore my shoes, grabbed my bag and left for the living room to see Michael and Selene sharing a hug.Confused, I walked closer until they noticed me and I forgot myself when I made eye contact with Michael who was also looking at me.I didn't miss the way his eyes raked over my body
CHAPTER 74MICHAEL I walked into the penthouse only to be welcomed with a dark living room and I figured that everyone must be asleep already. With a sigh, I made my way toward my room to rest for the night. Then I began to hear shuffling in the kitchen. There was suddenly a loud clang as a cup fell on the floor and I paused as I heard a voice mutter in the dark. Immediately, my defenses were awakened and I wondered if my house had been broken into as I pulled a gun out from beneath my shirt and slowly made my way to the kitchen.I held the gun out before me to attack if I had to. Then I reached for the switch to turn the light off and immediately I did, I saw it was Taylor and she had never looked so pale and frozen as she stared at the gun I had in her face with pure fear in her eyes.Quickly, I returned the gun into my pocket before I could reach for her shoulders to see if she was okay but she quickly took a step back as I held my hands out and there was suddenly a cold tension b
CHAPTER 73TAYLORI couldn't meet Selene's teasing stare. She would stop smiling while looking at me and I knew what she was thinking already. I just didn't want to talk about it but I knew Selene. She was the sort of person who never took no for an answer and eventually had her way all the time.“So tell me… what was with the heated mood this morning? What happened between you and Michael while I was puking my insides out last night?” She asked, that same knowing smile still plastered to her face and I sighed as I zipped the first aid box open and took out the aspirin tablets there.I took two out of the packet. One for each of us and handed her one.“Michael told me to take care of us, so here. It'll take the headache away” I ignored her question and she narrowed her eyes at me before she took the tablet from my hand and swallowed after I handed her a glass of water too. Then she stood up and walked over to where I was to stand by my side and I sighed again. Couldn't she just let
CHAPTER 72MICHAEL “Woah! Slow down, Alan. I haven't told you everything yet so don't ask me that question. It's too early” I quickly told him off and he gave me a knowing look.“Or are you just scared to own up to what you feel and admit to it by answering me?” He asked and I sighed.“Just listen to what I have to say first, Alan” I insisted and he leaned back in his chair.“Alright then. Go ahead” he said and I took a sip from my drink before I went ahead to explain myself.“I had no plans of taking things further with Taylor when I met her because she reminded me too much of Blair. I only bought her from that auction to get back at Blair and Carlos and I'm glad it worked” I scoffed and Alan chuckled. “But then… I don't know how it happened, Alan but I found myself getting along with her more than I anticipated and in the process, she fell for me”“How do you know that?” He asked and I looked at him.“She confessed to me while she was drunk yesterday” “Oh shit! She did?” he aske
CHAPTER 71MICHAEL The guards standing by the door bowed their heads to me as I approached them and I nodded back at them in acknowledgement.“Is your boss in? I'm here to see him” I asked guard number one and he nodded his head.“He's inside and waiting for you, Mr Rover” he replied. Then he pushed open the door for me and I walked into the mansion which belonged to my long time friend and business partner, Alan Gustave. Taking a look around while I followed the butler who led me to where he was, I took note of the few changes he'd made in his living room and when we both reached the wine bar, the butler stopped.“Mr Gustave is in the wine bar, Mr Rover” the butler said before bowing his head and walking away and I entered the bar to see Alan seated by the island and drinking from a glass of wine.“Hey buddy. I see you're having a nice time by yourself. You're getting old already, huh” I teased him while walking toward him and taking a seat beside him and he scoffed at me as a smal
CHAPTER 70MICHAEL Leaving my cup of coffee on the island, I stood up and straightened my shirt while Selene's question still hung in the air. I didn't plan on answering her to be honest and even though it was a Sunday, I needed to leave the house.I didn't trust myself enough to share the same space with Taylor too considering what happened between us the previous night. So I was taking my space elsewhere for a moment.“You guys aren't saying anything… That's suspicious” Selene said while she still held onto Taylor's arm as I walked toward them and I eyed her.“Take your medication, Selene. I'm sure your head hurts” I told her dismissively before walking out of the kitchen and I grabbed a car key while I headed toward the door. Then I heard her scoff loudly. “I'll make Taylor tell me everything!” She yelled before wincing while grabbing her head and Taylor held onto her tighter before we made eye contact again.“Take care of yourselves” I said to her and with that, I walked out of
CHAPTER 69TAYLOR“You look like a mess, Taylor” was the first thing he said to me and I hiccuped. I was too shocked, embarrassed and scared to give a sensible reaction. “Are you okay? You look pale like you just saw a ghost” he looked me over with worry and I released a shaky breath this time before I began to wring my hands as I broke eye contact with him.“I'm… I'm fine” I lied even though my head felt like it was about to fall off my shoulders and he took a step closer to me, causing me to stiffen as he closed the small distance left between us.Raising a hand up, he pressed it against my forehead and I closed my eyes upon the contact. I couldn't for the life of me understand why he was acting so cool about last night when I literally pressed my lips against his. Then he pulled his hand away from my head and we looked at each other.“You're burning up. You need to take something to make you feel better” he noted and I wouldn't stop wringing my hands. It felt like he had an ulteri
CHAPTER 68TAYLOROur bodies molded against each other while we devoured each other's mouths. Then we finally pulled away to catch our breaths and when we looked at each other, I could see the hunger in his eyes but I told myself I was only hallucinating because Michael Rover would never look at me like that.Quickly, my senses snapped me back to reality and I gasped as my eyes widened while I covered my mouth in absolute shock.“I… I didn't mean to…” I began but I was starting to feel tipsy and found it hard to stand straight. So Michael reached for my hand to hold me steady and Fernandez walked into the living room at that moment.“I've put Miss Selene to bed, boss. Can I leave now?” He asked and Michael dismissed him before he fixed his attention back on me after Fernandez was gone.“You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, Taylor” I heard him say, more like he was speaking to himself and with that, he picked me up again and carried me over to my room where he gently
