CHAPTER THREE
“What are you talking about? My mother would never do that” Henry stopped her.
“Do you really believe that she would not?” Sophia scoffed.
She was right, Henry thought. This was exactly something his mother could do and he had no idea why he was defending her.
“How did that happen?” He asked.
His mother had always expressed her dislike for Sophia but he never knew that she had a hand in her disappearance. He always thought she had collected her money and left just as his mother had said.
“The night you invited me over for dinner and announced that you wanted us to get married. Your mother asked to see me the next day and when I arrived at the salon, she made sure to warn me to steer clear of you.” Sophia sniffled again before she continued.
“She said she had her plans for your marriage and there was no way she was going to allow me ruin it and then she tried to bribe me with money but I refused. She then… she threatened to have me killed!”
“You should have come to me about this” He told her. “You should have told me immediately”
“I tried to tell you but you went on that business trip and I was… I was threatened by a masked man and I was too scared, Henry.”
“A masked man?” He asked, confusion dotting his forehead even more
“I was walking home one day and I was kidnapped… dragged away and I was asked to leave the country and never return. I was so scared, I tried to call you that night and I could not reach you and so I ran. It was stupid of me to not have waited but I could not… I was scared I was going to be killed”
“I came back and my mother informed me that you left. She said you asked her to loan you some money and she did not know you were going to run away with it. She showed me a fucking video of you both talking and then…” Henry muttered, his voice trailing away.
And then his mother had asked him to marry Elodie immediately.
He should have known that this was all a part of her ploy.
“I would never do that, Henry” Sophia argued, putting her hand in Henry’s. “I loved you… I still…” she sighed.
“Before I could reach you, you had gotten married and I maintained my distance” She finally said.
“So why are you back now? After a year?” he asked
“Because I love you, Henry and I have never been able to get you out of my mind since that night and because I believe you should know the truth about why I left. It doesn’t matter that you do not love me anymore”
“Don’t say that” Henry muttered, tortured.
“I am not about to destroy your marriage with your wife. I just want to apologize for leaving you, for destroying us and everything we talked about.”
“I understand and I still care about you, Sophia” He told her
“Then that is enough for me, I do not need anything else.” She smiled, fluttering her lashes at him.
They ordered for more bottles of champagne and then hit the dance floor whilst laughing about a lot of things. Henry felt the jolt of his cellphone in his pocket but ignored it. He knew it was Elodie calling him, no doubt to harass him about his whereabouts while she claimed she cared about him. For all he knew she was part of his mother’s devious plans and if she could just disappear from his life then he would be the happiest person on God’s green earth.
“I am so drunk” Sophia giggled, reaching to wrap her arms around Henry.
She did not think it would have been so easy to spin this tale and she had thought somehow he wasn’t going to believe a word she had said. Henry was ever so gullible and when his mother had approached her to leave him, offering such huge amount of money, she had not hesitated neither had she looked back.
She had tried to invest the money in some beauty scheme and it had crashed leaving her penniless which is why she was back.
Why have the milk when you could get the whole cow?
She was here for Henry and it did not matter that he had married that waste of a rich snob, Elodie. She was going to have him and this was just step one of her elaborate plan, not even his mother would be able to stop her.
“Do you want to go somewhere?” She winked at him.
Henry smiled, he was also drunk and there was no way he could drive back home in this state neither did he want to go home.
“Sure” He agreed.
They both walked out of the bar and straight to a hotel which wasn’t far from the bar and one Sophia had booked ahead.
She held unto Henry as they walked into the room she had booked, dropping him unto the bed.
“I should hit the showers” She announced while he grunted in acceptance.
She hurriedly removed the lingerie she had stuffed in her bag and put it on, cleaning off her makeup and then letting her hair fall.
She stared at herself in the mirror critically before turned around and exited the bathroom.
“Henry?” She called out.
She heard nothing, not one peep.
“You have got to be kidding me” Sophia grunted.
Henry laid sprawled on the bed, sleeping.
“Fucking fool” She snapped as she reached him.
He was going to ruin everything!
There was only one course of action, she thought.
She reached for his pants, snapping the zipper open and pulling until it was completely removed from his body and then she reached for his shirt, undoing the button and removing it deftly while he slept. When she was done, she then reached for the lingerie she had on, tearing the sides so it looked like he was in a hurry to get her out of it and then Sophia climbed the other side of the bed and laid gently beside him.
She smiled, closing her eyes, the next step of her plan complete.
CHAPTER FOURI wonder where he is, Elodie thought for the umpteenth time that night. She was worried.Henry had left the house, it was past midnight and he was not back yet. She had tried calling him but did not get any response which only made her worry more. Why the hell am I worried about him? She asked herself. He had made it very clear to her that he wanted nothing to do with her and he did not love her so why was she pacing the living room and staring up at the wall clock like some fish wife whose husband had gone missing?Blame it on her stupid heart for always fluttering anytime he was here and anytime he smiled or spoke. She was hopeless.Elodie sighed, collapsing on the sofa.“What are you doing?” Her mother in law asked. She jolted from her thoughts, her eyes widening. She had not heard the woman approach.“I… I am worried about Henry” She murmured. “He is not back yet”“Henry is not a child and he can stay out if he wants to” Abigail scoffed.“Yes but he is not picking up
CHAPTER FIVEONE MONTH LATERA whole month, Sophia raved. One month since their night and she had heard nothing from Henry… not even the peep of one text message from him.She had thought with everything she revealed and everything that transpired between them that he would want her more than ever.It was almost as if he wanted nothing to do with her, almost as if he did not care about her and that would simply not do. She needed him and everything he had to offer and if he did not want the easy way then she was going to have to do it the hard way.She picked up her phone and dialed his number, her fingers crossed and her teeth grating against each other.“Henry” She whined.“Sophia” Henry responded.“I don’t know if this is the right time to call you but I have been waiting for your call and… I was worried” Her voice dropped.“I am sorry, I have been swamped with work and I have been meaning to text you these past couple of days” He responded.Text me, my ass! Sophia fumed. Past coup
CHAPTER ONE“I may not have made myself clear, Elodie but I will now. I will never love you, no matter what and you seem to be forgetting that our marriage is just for the papers only.” Henry spat. She was being too nice and he hated it, more so he hated the fact that he had to wake up to her face every day for the rest of his miserable life.“I did not mean to upset you, I only thought you might be hungry seeing as you did not have anything to eat last night” Elodie muttered.“I did not ask you for anything” Henry spat again.“What is wrong with you?” Elodie snapped, her eyes flashing. “What have I ever done for you to treat me this way?”“What have you done?” Henry scoffed, rising to his feet.Elodie took a step back as he crowded her.“You stole my entire life, Elodie… that is what you did. Now get the fuck out before I do something crazy” He glared at her.Elodie gasped, turning away from him with the plate of Bacon and eggs she had in her hands. It had been a big mistake to think
CHAPTER TWO“What is the meaning of this?” Elodie screamed, her voice breaking.Henry released the woman, turning to her in shock. He had no idea she had been standing there and honestly he would have preferred she did not see this but it was what it was.“Elodie” He began, clearing his throat.“What is going on?” She asked, her eyes moving to Sophia who smirked at her, her eyes glittering in malice. He stepped in front of her as Elodie approached.“This is Sophia… and we used to know each other” Henry muttered.Elodie scoffed at this which infuriated Henry more than he cared to admit. She might be his wife but she did not mean anything to him whereas Sophia, she was his love.“Get out” Elodie snapped at Sophia.“She is going nowhere, do not embarrass yourself further” Henry countered.“No, I should leave” Sophia stopped him. “It was a mistake coming here and I am sorry for the intrusion, Elodie” She muttered.“No” Henry tried to stop her.Sophia smiled, turning away and out of the ho
