The taxi stopped in front of the large and beautiful Italian restaurant. Megan paid the driver and got out of the taxi. The taxi sped off leaving her standing there. It has been a week since she saw Brandon in the hospital with that mysterious pregnant woman. He only called her once and she did not pick up, he did not bother to call her again, nor try to visit her since a week ago. How did she date that asshole for four years and think she was in love with him. Her leg has healed almost completely. Leonardo Valenti invited her for lunch at this nice Italian restaurant to apologize for what happened in his house since she said it was his fault. She felt sorry for blaming him now she has no choice but to accept his invitation for a meal together. Julie had strictly warned her not to drive, therefore the reason for the taxi.
Megan was wearing a white blouson dress and a brown coloured trench coat, she wore a white sandal heel and carried a white purse. Her hair was in a messy bun. The heels did not hurt her feet much because it was low. She walked into the fancy restaurant and straight to the desk at the front of the restaurant. The host behind the desk wearing the uniform of the restaurant looked up when she approached and put on a professional smile. "Good afternoon, how may I help you?" "I was invited here for lunch." "Do you have a reservation?" She inquired. "Yes. I am here to see Mr. Valenti." Recognition flashed in her eyes. "Oh. This way." She led her to a private area that was upstairs and away from the general room where others were dining. She saw Leonardo sitting on one of the chairs for the table for two, set for them. He stood up when he saw her and pulled out her own chair for her to sit down. She blinked in surprise, she was not used to this kind of treatment from Brandon. Megan sat down quickly so as not to leave him standing. He moved to his own chair and sat down on it. "A waiter will attend to you once you are done picking out your order." The hostess told them. Megan had almost forgotten about the woman standing there. "In the meantime, you can pick out your courses." "Thank you." Leonardo Valenti said to the hostess. She nodded curtly and left them. Leonardo's dark eyes returned to her. He scanned her intently. She was uncomfortable with the intense gaze. He was so handsome and hot. He was wearing a dark blue three-piece suit. He sat on his chair looking so powerful like he is. At least she was now allowed to appreciate his beauty now that she was over with Brandon. At least, on her side. "I see your leg has healed. You are wearing heels." He noted. "Won't it still be uncomfortable for you?" His voice was so deep that it made Megan shiver slightly. "It has almost healed completely. The heels are low so they are comfortable as long as I don't stand for too long." "Then why bother wearing them if they will still be uncomfortable for you?" He raised a perfectly arched brow. "Women's fashion is different from men's. I have to wear my outfit with a heel so I chose a low heel that won't give me much problem or pain. You don't need to worry much about me or my leg. I am sorry for putting the blame on you." "Why are you sorry? It happened in my house, therefore it was also my responsibility and my fault for scaring you." Megan felt uncomfortable with his kindness. "Are you always this kind to people? You told me you do things for a reason. What is your reason for being kind to me?" He smirked a wicked one. "So you took notice of my words. Very good. One of the keys to survival in this world is always to be wary of the people around you. Some are there for a purpose." As he said those words, she instantly remembered Brandon. Who she trusted for a long time but he ended up betraying her. "Are you also here for a purpose?" Megan asked and he leaned back on his chair looking relaxed. There is no way he approached her for a reason. One, his business is on par with her father's business or even bigger than, she wasn't sure. Two, he also has a lot more money than Brandon. A whole lot. "Not really. It was merely an advice. If someone betrays you, then don't hesitate to stab them in the back when they are least expecting it." Now she understands why the media painted him as a ruthless and arrogant businessman. She wondered what he did to people who betrayed him. She took her menu and opened it. "Let's order now, shall we? We came here to this beautiful restaurant to eat so we should do just that." It was intentional. Her trying to change the topic. She did not want to delve further into unnecessary things when they were just strangers. He chuckled. It seems he understood what she was trying to do. "Alright." Megan scanned the menu, there were all sorts of dishes that seemed nice. She doesn't eat Italian foods so she was clueless about which one to pick. She glanced at Leonardo and his eyes were on his menu. "Can you pick for me?" She asked him. He would know which one to recommend since he was Italian. He looked up at her. "Are you sure?" She nodded. "I don't really eat Italian food so I am a bit confused about the one to pick. Since you are Italian, I feel you are the right person to recommend to me. Maybe a signature dish and something that is very nice and native." "Alright. Do you have any allergies?" He asked. "No. I don't." She answered. He looked into his menu. "I would recommend the Braciole if you are craving meat or Snail Caviar if you are craving uncooked seafood and something greasy. Bottarga is also a nice seafood choice that is cooked." "Hmm. The Snail Caviar is definitely off the list. I like cooked meals." He chuckled at that last one and she smiled. "I will go for the Braciole, I am craving meat today." "That is a nice choice." "What are you picking?" "The Balsamic and Rosemary-Marinated Florentine Steak. I love that one." "Oh, Steak. That is also nice." The waiter came and took their orders. "I would like the Giuseppe Quintarelli Wine." He told the waiter who noted everything down and left. When their meal arrived, her's was looking so beautiful to eat. She almost took a picture but refrained herself because it was a formal meal and not an informal one. She took a bite from her food and her eyes went wide. What is this divine taste? She heard Leonardo laugh. A deep throaty laugh and she looked up. He was staring at her in amusement. Her cheeks turned red. He had witnessed her unashamed appreciation. "I'm sorry. It was just so nice. I hope I am not making you uncomfortable?" "You certainly are not. Instead, I am enjoying this lunch." His Italian accent was noticeable. Megan almost blushed. This meal between them felt intimate and not like a business meal. After that, they ate their meal in silence. The wine was heavenly and tasted rich in her mouth. This food was one of the best she had ever had and funny enough, she enjoyed his company. He was easygoing and was not too demanding. They had small conversations in which he made her laugh sometimes. When they finished eating, their plates were packed up and she felt full. It was a hearty meal. "If this was a real apology meal, you are most certainly forgiven." Megan joked as she cleaned her mouth with a napkin. However, his face was serious. "It is an apology meal and it will remain like that. I will take it that I am forgiven then." "It's not really necessary but you are forgiven. I would like to try out the Bottarga someday. I never knew native Italian foods could be this nice and wonderful." She smiled. "They are. I can bring you here again some other time if you would like to come with me." Megan froze. Was he asking her on a date? She banished the thought from her head. Seems like she is beginning to behave like Julie and read too much into trivial things. "Do you mean another apology meal?" "Certainly not. I meant a date." He said boldly and Megan's jaw almost dropped. Why was Julie always right? First, it was Brandon, now it's Leonardo. Nevertheless, it was still wrong. He was her business client and even though she would soon break up with Brandon, what would others say? Especially the ones who are aware that she was the one who decorated his house. "I am sorry but I have to decline that offer Mr. Valenti." His eyes gave nothing away. "If you are thinking about what others might say then you should know that I do not care. You shouldn't too because they are not the owners of your life. Also, the name is Leonardo. Not Mr. Valenti. I thought we had passed that stage." He asked rhetorically. "I am sorry about that Leonardo. I have a boyfriend so I can't go on a date with you. This one was simply a business dinner so that I why I came but it ends here." Maybe this one would make him back off. He did not seem fazed. "Can't I steal you from your boyfriend so I can become your boyfriend instead? I know good things when I see one and I don't like letting go of them once I want it. The same thing applies to someone I like and I like you Megan Zendel." He said confidently staring at her with those dark eyes that were beginning to make her insides churn. She was lost for words at his statement. Like? How? If he likes her then why can't Brandon also like her like this? "I don't want to talk about this." She said when she got herself back from his raw confession. "Alright. I won't pressure you now but that doesn't mean I will stop trying." His eyes held an unspoken promise. "Are you ready to go?" She stared dumbfounded at him. What was wrong with this man? Why was he so straightforward? Why was she reacting to his words and why did it feel like there were butterflies in her stomach? Her heart was beating fast. "You will have to not bother trying at all because you still won't get me." She tried to discourage him. He was handsome, rich, and sexy. He was the perfect candidate to use to make Brandon jealous as Julie had said but she did not want to use him like the way Brandon used her. He could find better girls than her who would love him and not use him for selfish purposes. That would simply make her to be like Brandon. Leonardo Vale
As soon as Megan confirmed that Leonardo had left, she went outside and hailed a taxi. She got inside and gave the driver Julie's house address. It was already approaching evening when she arrived at Julie's house. Megan wasn't even sure if she was at home, it was Saturday and she could be out partying or having fun. She rang the doorbell for her house and in a few seconds the door opened and Julie was there in a baggy white shirt and pink shorts. When she saw her it was as if a dam opened and tears streamed down her cheeks. "Julie..." She cried and ran into her waiting arms. Julie held her there and let her sob till she calmed down. "What happened Megan?" She questioned curiously after her cries had reduced."He- he embarrassed me. I saw them in the restaurant I went to with Leonardo. He denied me, oh God." Her sobbing increased again and Julie took her to her comfortable sofa. She sat her down and Julie sat beside her. "Calm down and tell me what happened."She slowly took deep br
"What the fuck!" She screamed out. Brandon was sitting on her couch. She held her chest, he scared the shit out of her. He looked so relaxed like it was his house. How the hell did he get in and what was he here for? He did not bother calling her or texting her, now he is in her house. To do what? She thought he was a robber or a stalker with his all-black outfit. "Where have you been Megan?" Megan blinked repeatedly. Was she dreaming? Or has Brandon simply run mad? "You really have the balls to come to my house. How did you even get in?" Then she remembered she had told him her password before. "Were you with that man I saw at the restaurant?" He scanned her body to her face looking disgusted. "Did you sleep with him? You are still wearing the same clothes from yesterday and your hair is messy." "Are you sick in the brain? You must be mad from what I am seeing. After cheating on me, you are asking me if I slept with a man when you made a girl pregnant while dating me for what
As soon as the door banged shut, she exhaled deeply. Megan did not know what had come over her. The rubbish he was spilling and the pain from his betrayal was what also fuelled her anger. She did not realize she could be like that or defend herself like that. She walked to the house telephone on her dining wall and dialed the security number for the building she was living in. In a few minutes, they had changed the password to her house. She flopped on her bed, exhausted from the activities that took place that day. She had changed into a more comfortable cloth. Her phone rang and she stared at the caller. It was Julie. She picked it up."Hey, Megan. Hope you arrived safely?" Her cheery voice sounded over the phone. "Yeah, I did. You made sure of that. Are you back yet?" Julie chuckled. "That's true. I just got back from the grocery store."Megan went silent for a while, she was debating if she should tell Julie. "What's wrong," Julie asked as if sensing her hesitation."Brandon wa
Animated conversations and laughter filled the air as Megan stepped into the ballroom of Leonardo's house where the housewarming party was held. The place was bathed in golden warm light. The guests here wore casual clothes, nothing too grand since it was just a small party. The dress code was casual. Megan wore a short green one-shoulder dress with a pleated tulle skirt which stopped above her knee, she paired it with a vintage strappy white sandal heel. It was simple and not noticeable, her makeup was light too. Her father who was at her side wore casual clothes. She spotted the large sculpture that broke before which was now repaired. It stood elegantly in the center of the ballroom. It was a beautiful and unique sculpture and it made the room seem more grand. She thought if she returned it to Georgiou Alexpoulos for repair he would send it back angrily. Luckily that was not the case, instead, he repaired and added more designs to it and sent it back within two days! That was rare
Leonardo was upstairs watching the party from behind a glass. No one could see him from downstairs but from where he was, he had a clear view of what was happening below. He was waiting for Megan to arrive, after all, he had hosted this party just to see her again. He needed an excuse and this was the perfect one. He knew she would reject any offer of seeing her personally, especially with what happened at the restaurant that day. If she did not come then he won't bother going downstairs and the party would be over.He saw a lady in a green dress step inside the room. There she was! She was coming in with a middle-aged man with a walking stick, he recognized the man as Peter Zendel, her father. The dress was so beautiful on her, as if it was made for her and it was almost the same color as her eyes. Her silky black hair fell to her waist. She looked so ethereal. Her eyes were on something and he traced it to the sculpture at the centre of the room. He remembered it, he had to threate
Megan kept staring at the black and golden business card on her office table. She had wanted to throw it away but could not bring herself to. The door to her office opened and she quickly hid the card. Julie stepped into the office and looked at her suspiciously. "What was that?" She asked looking at her clutched hand where she held the business card."What do you mean?" She asked innocently."You are hiding something in your hand aren't you?" Her eyes narrowed."What could I be possibly hiding? Anyways I am ready so let's go." She put the card in her bag quickly when Julie wasn't looking. She and Julie had wanted to do a weekend shopping, today was the perfect day after a week of working. It was Friday evening and they were at a high-end department store. "Check this one out. It would fit you perfectly well." Julie was holding a silver glittery extremely short dress that was backless. "Julie! How do you possibly expect me to wear that?" "What is wrong with it? You need to have fu
Megan entered her house, she dropped her shopping bags on the floor carelessly. She went straight to her room and her phone was on her bed as she was about to pick it up, a call came in and it was Julie. Why was she calling her now? Nevertheless, she picked it up."Megan, what the hell happened when I left? You are all over the internet!"She frowned in confusion. "What do you mean?""I sent you the video. You should watch it yourself. I will call you back later, I am with my mother.""Ok." Then she cut the call. Megan unlocked her phone and she saw a lot of missed calls. Six from her father, ten from Julie, and two from her father's lawyer. She opened the message that Julie sent her and clicked on the video. It was the video of what happened in the department store! It also included when Alexa slapped her. Her hand flew over her mouth. How did it reach the internet so fast? She quickly went online and she was trending. Some labeled her as a slut while some called her a relationship b
Megan stepped down from the car that her father's driver drove her to the hospital with and immediately cursed under her breath. She was just coming back from the hospital for her checkup, according to her doctor, she is now able to do normal things since it has been five weeks since she had her surgery. Although she still feels tired sometimes it was bearable. Her medication was still one of her enemies at the moment; it still made her feel drunk and groggy sometimes. She missed feeling sane and normal.Back to what she was angry about right now, another set of bouquets was being taken into her father's house together with a gift bag. Was he not tired? It has been a whole month since she came back from the hospital and also the same time when the gifts and flowers started invading her father's house. Walking into the house, she headed to the place where the flowers are always kept, the dining room. This time, the bouquet was not as big as the others. The flowers have been so much th
He needed to get his wits together. If only he could try harder, then maybe she would come back to him. The reason why he has not yet gone to see her, even though he almost has plenty of times, was because her father was the one who advised him not to rush things, especially with Megan. Peter Zendel told him that whenever stuff like this happened, it was best to give her space and not rush things because she might regret any hasty decision she makes, so it was better to let her decide on her own. The only thing that had been keeping him sane was knowing the fact that she was doing fine and alright. He was getting feedback on her health from his friend, Juan, whom he recommended to Megan's father. It was not all because he wanted to watch her. That was why he recommended Juan; it was also because he wanted her to be in good health, and he was aware that she needed a very healthy diet, and Juan was the best option. As for the letters he was sending, he will have to write better. S
It was not just any letter like the one he had been sending to her for a while. It was a handwritten letter of their memories together. How did Leo, who is a businessman, think of something like that? It was so nice, and she did not want to acknowledge it. She could not and she will not acknowledge it. This one was written of their time in the London Eye. He wrote every detail of how she was happy, scared, and sad at the same time. His writing was so accurate that if she did not know him, she would have thought that he probably paid a pro or writer to do it for him or that he bought it. Nevertheless, this was too accurate to not be true. She did not know that Leo was keeping all the memories so stored deeply inside his heart and head. She remembered that time so well even though she did not. She finished reading the letter and her heart was beating fast not in a bad way but in a good way. She dropped the letter in the waste bin, and after a few minutes, she went back to pick it up.
It has been weeks now and she was frustrated. The whole house was filled up with flowers and a nice fragrance, not that she was complaining about the fragrance. Ever since she came to her father's house, Leo has not stopped sending flowers and letters of apology. She wondered how he knew about her current location. She had dismissed the bodyguards that he hired for her because she no longer needed them as she was staying at her father's house. Megan also released to the media that she was sick, which was the reason for the cancellation of their wedding. The day she was supposed to get married, which was yesterday, has passed, and she was still working on her health in her father's house. The wedding cancellation news was the only way to protect them both from criticism; the media still thinks that they are together; she left it that way because Leo would be heavily criticized for leaving her when she was sick and at her lowest. She wanted to wait till everything die down before she r
Delphine drew back in surprise. "Huh? You have broken up with Leo?" Megan shook her head. "No, I did not break up with him. We are only taking a break for now. We need some time to think about our relationship." She explained her lie. She and Leo are not taking any breaks, but they have broken up. More like she broke up with him but she did not want to tell his mother that when she knows how much Delphine loves her and sees her like her daughter. She did not have the guts to break her heart.Delphine sighed heavily. "Oh. It's Leo, right? He is the reason for this break that you talk about." When she saw that Megan was not answering her she continued. "There is no need for you to defend him; I know my son, and I know what he can do. He sometimes is careless and does not know how to value the precious things around him. He also makes some mistakes that are unbelievable and he is not perfect. I don't know what he must have done but I want to tell you that you should follow your heart an
"Geez, you scared the shit out of me. Don't go around scaring me like that anymore. I may have another heart attack even though I have been cured." Megan exclaimed.Julie pursed her lips. "I am sorry for disturbing you, but why are you scared? Do you have something to be scared of?" Her expression was skeptical.Megan composed herself and held her head high. It did not matter if Julie had caught her red-handed, she will still hold her head high. There was nothing to be afraid of. "I don't have anything to be afraid of. I thought you were working?" Megan pointed. "Are you trying to change the topic? You came here to check if your ex-boyfriend has come to see you once more." She stretched her neck to look out the floor-to-ceiling windows, and Julie suddenly grinned. "There he is, just leaving. You must be happy that he is still smitten with you." She remarked with a sly smile.Megan glanced out the window and in the direction where his car was parked before, and he was really driving o
Megan drew back in surprise. "Dad? He knows too?""Of course he does. For some strange reasons that I don't know about, he agreed to his request. I am not sure if he knows about the breakup. Did you tell him?""No. I never told him." She said."Well. That is what happened. I can never hide something like this from you; I am not crazy," She said. "If you don't still fully trust me, then you can call him and ask him; he will surely confess what he did."What she is saying makes sense a little, it is not completely rubbish. But... " How the heck did you know that I broke up with him? I don't remember telling you or is this surgery messing with me?" Julie folded her hand across her chest and gazed at her with an unimpressed expression that screamed, 'What the fuck.' "Really? Even a blind man would know. Maybe your father even knows and you are not aware of it. What I am saying is that everyone knows that Leonardo is obsessed with you and would do anything for you; I mean, the nurses even
"What is going on?" Julie whispered with curious eyes. Megan quickly signaled for Julie to keep quiet so that the nurses would not hear her and Julie quickly shut her mouth. The bodyguards who were a few feet away from them froze. Megan sometimes wonders if they are robots because of the way they always seem to know what to do. Another reason why she had left them was because she was already used to having them around. They were at the back of the nurses station, the nurses could not see them."I wonder what is going on between them. They have not seen each other ever since that day that Miss Zendel went into surgery. Do you think they broke up?" Someone asked."No. I don't think they broke up, it is more like an estranged love, a love that cannot be shown. He has been visiting the hospital but it seems like Miss Zendel is not aware. I caught him one day in the parking lot where he was watching her room window. After watching for a while, he got into his car and drove off.""True. I t
It has been a week. A whole freaking week and her recovery has been her priority. She did not let herself think about anything else except recovering, which had not been easy at all; the pain was not little at all. It hurt like hell, she has never felt that amount of discomfort and pain for a long time. It felt so new but with the help of painkillers, the pain was bearable. She had to manage a regimen of pain medications, which normally left her feeling groggy and disoriented at times. Simple tasks like sitting up, walking, and even breathing deeply cause her pain and anguish but she was able to face it with the help of her family. Her father has always been there for her and even Julie has practically been working from her hospital room. She did not feel lonely with their constant presence, and it was comforting to know that there were still people by her side, people who would be with her through it all. Unlike some other people whom she did not want to think about right now.To re
